Decided to give this place a second try and glad we did. Service can truly make or break your experience. Our witness was amazing. She was funny and full of energy and was total good vibe! We got seated right away and she had some great recommendations for food! The Cajun chicken pasta was ridiculously delicious! The spinach dip was also soooooo good! The pasta was a large enough serving to share! So next time I will share an appetizer and dish with my husband! The fish and chips also delicious. Honestly even the salad was good! 7/31/26 - dinner we sat outside on the patio. The food was mediocre at best . The Chinese chicken was decent. The meatball appetizer was overly salty. The service was awful! our waiter Jamison, like the Irish whiskey did nothing except take our order. Not once did he check on us except to come by and apologize for not bringing the diet soda we ordered, the waitress that delivered our meal must have said something to him after I asked her to bring our diet soda.. He didn't deliver any food, He didn't deliver any drinks, He did not refill any water. And we had to ask for the check. read more

We've eaten here before, so I'm not sure if they were having an off day... or if the wheels have just completely fallen off since our last visit. Hard to tell! The hostess seated our group of four at a table where one unlucky soul had to wedge themselves into a corner spot against the wall--basically a designated "time-out" chair for adults. Cozy? Sure. Comfortable? Absolutely not. We waited a while for our server, but eventually we ordered and the food and drinks came out. I went with the Blue Salad and a raspberry iced tea because I was still recovering from my Thanksgiving food coma and wanted something light. Well... light it was. Flavorful? Not so much. The tomatoes were mushy, the dressing didn't taste like bleu cheese, and honestly the whole thing made me wish they had just committed to a classic iceberg wedge and called it a day. Everyone else ordered breakfast and actually liked theirs, so maybe salads are just not their calling. I did have to ask for a coffee refill for my daughter, and my iced tea was apparently a one-time-only limited-edition item because the waitress never came back to offer more drinks or check on us. Overall? Let's just say I'm strongly considering not coming back--unless they relocate that corner seat. No one deserves that fate. read more

I have stayed in the hotel a couple times, but this time we just did a day trip to enjoy the FSD. Wife had the black bean burger with side salad and I had the cheeseburger with fries. Wife loved all her food. My cheeseburger was good. Slight glitch as I had ordered Swiss cheese and it came with cheddar. Wasting food is a sin in my book so the server brought me a slice of Swiss and it was all good. The fries were just ok. I think the fresh cut potato type are best. My suggestion to them. I had a glass of local Barbera which I quite liked. So after lunch we took a walk and then went by Hatcher and took a bottle of Barbera home. The hotel looks much like it did in the 19th century. We got seated & waited for someone to take our order but no one ever came. It took over 20min when we finally decided to get up and leave. It was empty too! Dropped in to this establishment with a group after a race at the winery, thinking to catch a quick lunch. The old town ambience was great, but the service was some of the slowest I've ever experienced. While our server was nice, she wasn't very efficient. It took over 20 minutes to get our drinks after we ordered and our food even longer. The food itself was just mediocre. Had high hopes for the Cuban sandwich, but was disappointed. The fish and chips was overcooked in a thick doughy batter and the tartar served with it wasn't at all flavorful. We were there for over 2 hours due to the slow service. Murphy's hotel is great. It's an unexpected gem in a small town hotel and I love them. The staff is great and run like a small mom and pop shop. The food is delicious from breakfast to dinner. Murphy's hotel fed our entire staff for multiple days as we worked this past storm and I couldn't be more grateful to have something to delicious while we worked 16 hour days and weren't able to make a home cooked meal. The food was delicious! I had the BBq chicken with garlic mashed and veggies. My hubby has fried chicken. We both had French onion soup that we enjoyed. The chef was able to make French onion gluten free! And they reassured me with my meal I was safe(having celiac disease) The dining room was nice. I visit Murphy's for an annual wine festival and normally go to grounds because they're one of the few restaurants open. This is the second year in a row. That service has been horrible and this time we walked out. I hadn't thought of the hotel having breakfast, but it was a win for us because the breakfast was amazing, fresh and obviously homemade. The service was on point. I'm sure grounds won't miss us, but we won't miss them either and this will be our go to for breakfast in the future. I have had lunch there in the past also and the food is always really good. read more

If I could give this a negative score I definitely would. My family drove to Murphys for lunch and shopping. We decided to eat at the hotel restaurant. It took awhile for our server to take our order and then we waited almost an hour to get our food. I finally was able to flag down the male server by placing our empty water glasses by the edge of the table so he could refill our water which was never refilled the entire time we were there. I literally watched him refill water at every table except ours the hour we sat there. Once I got his attention I asked him if he could see where our food was. As he was going to check, the female server came out with our cold food and told me someone took our ticket and apologized. She said she'd knock 10% off our bill which ended up being 5$. If she would have come to check on us once, she would have realized there was a problem. If my husband wasn't with us we would have walked out but he's easy going and left our server a tip even though she did not deserve it. Cold unappealing food and bad service. We won't be back and I'll be telling everyone I know not to bother eating there. read more

Great food and awesome service!! Jackie was amazing!! Very funny and she gave us the perfect amount of attention!! For appetizers we had the spinach & artichoke dip and the brussel sprouts...SCRUMPTIOUS!! The french onion soup came out very hot and the amount of blue cheese crumbles on the salad was generous! The food here was good, but not above average. I had a ribeye, which I haven't had for quite awhile and I enjoyed it. The baked potato was fine too although not special. My complaint was that I only got a tiny piece of broccoli, and I love steamed broccoli. Sad face. Our server was new (I think) because he didn't know the menu, but that's fine most of the time really. I had a chocolate mousse for dessert which was okay but a little grainy instead of smooth. This is the biggest disappointment in Murphys and yes I have eaten at all the other dinner spots. 4 people cost more than 8 people at another local spot. First issue, they have prime rib every Fri, Sat and Sun. It's an ongoing special. Of course they are out of Prime Rib! Now even worse is there is a huge car show on Saturday and so there is zero excuse not to know this is every year and is going to pack the place on Fri and Sat night so you order a lot of extra knowing you are going to sell the prime rib and you'll have locals coming on Sun night when everyone is gone to have dinner and order prime rib. Complete lack of planning. Next issue is they took our drink order. I ordered "Ginger Ale". What I was served was sparkling water with I don't know what in it but this was a sad attempt to make something it was not. I can't even describe it but it was NOT ginger ale. For the appetizer (which was the only good dish) we ordered the calamari which was light and crispy and had a generous portion of calamari and shrimp (I wasn't sure if shrimp was with it but it was good). Now the main courses which you will see in the photos was borderline disgusting. My wife ordered the "brown butter ravioli" which was not butternut squash ravioli in brown butter sauce. It was just ounces of liquid butter with so much sage, Gordon Ramsay would of thrown this into the garbage. There was no can nearby or I would of. The ravioli was so basic and flavorless. This line cook (clearly not a chef who has done this) needs serious schooling or 86 this off the menu! I ordered the Ribeye medium rare. As simple as you can cook as a chef. I have cooked 100's of ribeyes and this was another failure. First the ribeye was 33% fat (see photos) so an 8 oz steak is really a 5.50z piece of meat. This was a low quality ribeye, served medium and zero flavor. To top it off the herb butter round on top was frozen like a hockey puck. (See photo). The server was sweating profusely running back and forth clearly understaffed so we felt so bad for him I just did't want to stress him out any more and with zero confidence in the kitchen I didn't want to wait for more of the same. My daughter and son-in-law had the filet which did look decent and they said it was not the best but was ok. This dinner cost $220! I did leave a full tip as there is no reason to punish wait staff. This is a place you should absolutely skip as there are so many better places for dinner in Murphy's. This is the first 1 star review I have written in many years. It offers an old charm and nice historical ambiance in dining. My problem was the waiter being told and completely understood that I was ordering Medium Rare. It had to be art rare, he knew it. My steak came out overcooked and Medium. Little Pink , no partial Rare. The waiter vanished and had someone else deliver it to me.. I had the bacon wrapped shrimp which I haven't encountered before. It tasted alright though the shrimp didn't have to be cooked as much as it did. I did wonder how the bacon stayed in place around the shrimp. I asked what the most popular dish was and fried chicken was the answer. That's what I had. You get 1/2 of a chicken. How often do restaurants offer that claim?To boot it was fresh out of the fryer.... none of this reheated variety. The outer coating was not overly salted. It was crispy. The only drawback was the breast portion was over cooked which I mentioned to the server who mentioned that was better than not being cooked. I disagree that the kitchen could scale back the frying time on this segment. There was a gravy boat that came with the chicken and that was nice to dunk in the chicken giving it a moister flavor. Asparagus also came with the meal. You won't go hungry. I heard they offered this dish back to the 1920's. The service was spotty at times. We ate indoors and think the staff also had to accommodate the backyard area too. If you want chicken this place is pretty decent and you'll get your fill. 3 1/2 stars. read more

I called ahead of time and was told for two people we did not need a reservation that we would get a table. I was told they close at 9pm. We arrived at 7pm to a very unfriendly hostess that told us they are not seating people without reservations. I told her about my phone conversation less than 2 hours prior. She sighed and turned away saying she would see what they say. We were seated which was great except for our server that made sure to tell us how tired he was. He had been working since 10am. We overheard the hostess being very rude and unfriendly to the rest of the guests that showed up after us. She is absolutely a horrible hostess. This is the 3rd time that this restaurant takes our reservation over the phone, confirms it and then says there's nothing in their books when we arrive. We live 2 hours away and always look forward to eating here. There is zero accountability and don't expect a comparable solution because the best they do is offer you directions to local restaurants. It is almost comical at this point how reliable they are in messing up your reservation some how. I wish I could give 0 stars but i'm honest and I liked the food the one time I actually got a table years ago. Do not rely on their reservation system no matter how many confirmations you get and don't expect them to offer anything in return. People plan their stays in advance and are often traveling with kids or hectic schedules and it really sucks not to be able to count on planning ahead and being left pointed towards the street when everything else in the area is also pretty packed or booked up. read more

Tried this historic spot for the first time while visiting downtown Murphys (also for my first time!). Super SUPER excited because I'm really into 19th century historic buildings and hotels. Fully planned on getting a room here with my husband! It was beautiful inside! I'm already silently planning my next vacation. They have a sweet woman at the check in/out desk, along with shirts and hats to purchase. Beautiful antique piano. My friend and I sat in the bar area for lunch. Bartender, who was our waiter at the table, was off putting. My friend asked "what's good on the menu?" And he replies "are your eyes open?!...everything!" She sat there uncomfortably as she forget her glasses and couldn't see the menu that well. Both of us looking at each other like, wtf? Long story short I ordered a BLT with a side salad. BLT came with two slices of bacon for the entire sandwich. I thought this was a mistake so I brought it up to the waiter who again had an offputting indifferent attitude. Apparently that's how it's supposed to come.... (A BLT with 2 slices of bacon!? Since when? And where? Cuz ive never heard such a thing. EVER, and for $17!!?? Am i in the fking twilight zone?!). He would be "happy" to have them remake it, but again, with 2 pieces of bacon. His face said everything and it didn't indicate "happy". He insisted with a strange energy about him. I never minded it, it took over 45 min to get this shitty sandwich. I'm starved. So he brought me a plate with a single, limp and lifeless piece of bacon on it. That was the remedy apparently. Salad was ok. I took both pieces of bacon and put it on one side of the sandwich to make a proper BLT. Full price for a half sandwich. Upon paying the bill, my friend mentioned our disappointment with the BLT. "I don't know what to tell you" was his response. So, it's safe to bet that all of my excitement with this place was officially gone. I sent My Husband a text message saying never mind about wanting to stay here. I was planning on purchasing him and I matching hats from the historic building on my way out. I didn't do this either. And I really really wanted the hats when I first walked in!
