We all had the best bartender experience! This historic bar is the perfect setting for everyone to enjoy. Ken is a true mixologist! He knows how to mix drinks for every palate. Some of the hotel staff just seemed like they didn't care! They had a party across form our room until 10:pm we were told that they would stop at 9pm. The service was just way below average! Then outside out window there were drunk people talking super loud till 2:00 am! Horrible sleep! Seems like the bar customers are what they care about not thier hotel guests! It was nice to sit under a patio which even though was close to the sidewalk, had the privacy of a trellis of leaves around it. The waitresses were friendly as soon as we arrived and seated fast. It was around 11:00 am on a Friday but breakfast is served until 11:30am during the week. I had a craving for pancakes. The plate was nicely laid out with everything horizontally lined up. Portions were generous enough. My pancakes were more of a crepe texture than I expected. I wanted fluffy. They were good, but thin. My friend ordered the french toast which was two, really thick slices from a french loaf. She enjoyed the taste but also expected the bread to be the usual cut. Good coffee. Nice white tablecloths. I've eaten here many times and I've never been disappointed. The food is always super tasty and the staff has always been friendly. The inside is what appears to be original stone work. It's small but not cramped. There is also outdoor seating when it's sunny. The fish and chips is amazing. I can not recommend the stuffed mushrooms enough. Delicious. We go here several times a year and always has been good. We both had the French dips which is our favorite. I had the clam chowder and a beer. My wife had hers with the fries and a bloody Mary. We go to Murphys Hotel all the time for Sunday Brunch and Football. It's always a lively atmosphere,the bartenders are great! I recommend the Murphys Mimosas and Bloody Marys Their Eggs Benedict is also excellent! The bar is loud and of course popular. read more

This place is definitely a 4.5 star place. We were on vacation with a total of 9 of us. We went in before they opened and was able to get us in at 5:15p as they wanted 15 minutes to set up our table. We sat outside on the patio. The mist system was on which was nice except my 87 year old mother was sitting directly underneath one and she didn't like it. We asked our server if he could turn off just that one, which he said yes. After taking our order I think he forgot about the mist system as he never came back. My husband had to go ask about turning it off again. Our server rushed over and apologized and had in his hand a tool to reach the shut off valve for that specific one. My mom was happy now. Our meals got to us within about 20-25 minutes. We were fine as we were enjoying our visit and the outdoors. Everything looked amazing. Everyone said their food was delicious. My mom and daughter split the Chicken Fettuccine Alfredo as my mom doesn't eat a lot. The server delivered it already split and the portion size was still very good. My lunch ribs we amazing and the meat fell off the bones. The rib eye was huge. The special, which was the Meatloaf, was a generous portion. I can't remember the names of the other meals that were ordered but everyone ate it all up. I included pictures so you can look at the portion size and figure out the names of the items. We did ask for a to-go box but our server forgot as he was busy with other tables. My husband again got up and asked at the front for one. It got quite busy and our server was very young. Not sure how long he had been working there but considering it's outside, maybe one more server out there and the kitchen is inside, he did great! Definitely worth trying this place out. My husband and I stopped in unexpectedly for a nice steak dinner, and they were able to get us a table. Waiter was friendly and very familiar with the specials and menu. Good service. My husband ordered prime rib and I ordered rib eye. My husbands prime rib was a nice cut, but very unevenly cooked. At least one inch all the way around was brown and cooked medium in the middle. He ordered rare. Also, it was very fatty! My ribeye was cooked perfectly, but half of the steak was fat and very veiny. It was hard to cut and probably the worst rib eye I've ever had. This restaurant is located inside the historic Murphy's Hotel. I decided to brunch before heading back down the mountain from this relaxing enclave of a town, and this is where I ended up. I ordered the smoked tri tip has with scrambled eggs, which was posted on a little chalkboard sign by the hostess stand. A scrumptious choice made in a snap as the tri tip hash had an enlightening smokey flavor and partnered perfectly with the scrambled eggs. The portion was generous and provided a hearty meal that held me over to dinner time. I stayed at the hotel overnight and we had dinner at the hotel. Nice spot (the largest restaurant in the area). Friendly wait staff and solid food. I ordered the calamari as an appetizer, tasted great until I saw the shrimp! (I'm allergic to shrimp). This is the only reason I gave it 3 and not 4 stars. They kindly took it away and apologized and even comped a desert. I recommend this place just make sure you ask questions on the menu if you have any allergies or dietary needs. Food was decent, service not so much. Three of us ordered soup. Our main courses were delivered first. When we asked what happened, the waiter seemed surprised that we'd want our soup before our main. When we cancelled the soup he asked a couple of times if we were sure. In addition I asked for the wine list back so I could order wine. The waiter came around, asked if I'd decided. When I said yes to a glass with my main, he disappeared before I could tell him what I wanted. Finally got it after managing to cancel the soup. The dining room was really, really loud btw. The hotel charged my credit card for a damaged bed spread that wasn't damaged by me. They took $300.00 off my credit card And when I called to dispute the charge they said there was NOTHING they would do. Also $300.00 dollars for a CHEAP bedspread is ridiculous! I'll never stay there again! I didn't know anything till I saw the charge untill it showed up on my credit card. I live in Texas and I guess this how they operate in California. There was another party of six that the same thing happened too. At this point we ask our server what the issue was and she said there was nothing she could do to push the kitchen and understood if we want to leave. At this point we plus the other party of six paid for our drinks and left. It didn't appear to be that busy since there were empty tables outside. This was on our list of things we wanted to do in Murphy but won't be on our list for next time. Also, won't be suggesting it to any other people. Torn on this review. I would have given 4 stars for the food, portion size and price. However this restaurant did not follow Covid protocols. Although, it was outdoor dining and tables were spread out, only half of the restaurant staff were wearing their masks. I was relieved our server had his mask on, but some of the other servers, host, and water refillers did not. That was unsettling. Every time they walked by, I put my mask back on. If you're paranoid or just vigilant, I would not recommend going here or take it to go, or ask for a server that has a mask on. read more

On the 3rd of May 2025, I was staying at Murphy's Hotel. Went to the outside dining area. It was about 1245 pm. very crowded as there was a chili cook off event, along with a motorcycle riders event, and some kind of other events going on all at the same time. It was a great atmosphere and a good time. My wife and I and some friends sat at an open table. We ordered drinks from the bar and waited patiently to be served as we understood the place was overly crowded. Finally, a waitress showed up over an hour later to take our order. The waitress informed us with a very snobby, condescending attitude that " for your future reference, we are a wait to be seated establishment" there is no clearly marked wait to be seated signs or anything, indicating this. (so I would just like to say to this young lady, for her future reference, we will never be returning to this establishment to wait to be seated) We ordered a calamari appetizer. Almost 2 hours later. We received our order of about five pieces of calamari mixed with about 5 salad shrimp & one French fry with some cheese on it and a big bowl of sauce that was more than the portion of the appetizer for an outrageous cost of $19. We finally received the appetizer at about 250PM . We were told that the restaurant is closing at 3 o'clock. And did not have enough time to order our food. read more

The food was delicious, however when I order a Caesar salad, I am used to anchovies coming with it. I asked if it came with anchovies, the waitress said yes and gave me four little anchovies and then charged me five dollars for the anchovies. This was my first visit and I was looking forward to eating here after hearing so many good things. We arrived just before 5pm on Sunday with our two fur kids (they are dog friendly) and were told we could sit in the lower outdoor patio area, which was fine. We were told that we could order at the inside bar, since outside service didn't start until 5 - again no problem. We ordered calarmari, which arrived quickly and was good - nothing special, but it met expectations. Our waiter stopped by once to drop off water and we mentioned we were going to order food, which he said ok and would be back. Fast forward 20 minutes and we watched the tables at the upper patio area fill up and get service, while no one ever checked on us. Talk about feeling like 2nd class citizens! After 25 minutes, I got up and went the host stand to ask if we could order food, for which I got a surprised reaction and was told the waiter would be right over. We ordered our dinner, I got the fried chicken and my girlfriend got the burger. We had to ask for bread and butter and for water. The waiter eventually just left a pitcher of water at our table for us to self serve ourselves. We inquired about the corkage fee, which is $30 and agreed to open a bottle of wine we bought locally in Murphy's. The waiter twisted the cap off and set it on the table. Never poured glasses for us, we ended up doing it ourselves. The food arrived in a reasonable amount of time and I would say was flavorful and more than we could eat. The waiter never checked on us during dinner, we refilled our own water and wine glasses and took care of ourselves. When it came time to closing out, I ended up having to help myself to to-go containers for our leftovers and had to ask for our bill. Overall, highly disappointed in service, we definitely did not feel welcome there. Food was ok, but not worth going back to again. The outside patio is very nice and with good service probably would be enjoyable, but we couldn't wait to leave. read more

This is great food. Forget about the negative reviews. The food and the staff are awesome. I had the prime rib which honestly it's the best I have every had and I have been all over the world. The only negative it's that it was served with horse radish sauce instead if the real stuff, which they will being you if you ask. There is no reason why such a finely cooked piece of meat should be defiled by anytime less than the best. We waited for 20 minutes and not one server came to our table. After talking to table next to us, we found out they had been waiting for 1 1/2 hours for appetizers. On 5/28/2023 my wife and I went to this restaurant for lunch since we heard Gordon Ramsay fixed this place up. I ordered the Club Sandwich and my wife ordered a Rueben sandwich. Both of us chose French fries as the side. We put our order in at 1:15pm and it took over an hour to receive our food! We seen other tables sit down and order and get there food then eat and leave all while we kept waiting for ours! At 2:15pm I finally had enough and went in and talked to the bartender asking where our food was. Miraculously our food showed up very shortly after that. My club sandwich looked like it had been sitting for quite awhile and my wife's Rueben looked to be microwaved and put together piss poorly on some left over rye bread from breakfast! The French fries were so limp and cold and greasy they were inedible! With two ice teas our meal came to 40 dollars and some change. In my opinion whatever Gordon Ramsay fixed sure as hell didn't stay fixed! Not going back. If I could give it 0 stars I would have! The Murphys Hotel doesn't even deserve that one star but it's the lowest yelp allows. PS the Ambiance of this place is definitely suited for the city people who come up here every weekend get drunk and want food no matter what the quality is. Take my advice and stay away from this place. There are better restaurants in and around Murphys, California. read more
