Came for the burger :) My husband and I live in the East Bay and wanted to go on a lil drive. We decided on Murphy's for the Watering Hole burger which did not disappoint. We ordered 2 Double Cheese Burgers, the Broccoli Bacon Ranch Salad and an order of French Fries that included a side of ranch. All of what we ordered was delicious. The burgers come with double patties and are grilled along with the onions, the bun lightly toasted, soft and sweet and included a smear of 1,000 dressing. The burgers have 2 different types of cheese, fresh crispy shredded lettuce, pickles and sliced ripe tomato. It is the perfect combination and proportions of all ingredients. The Broccoli Bacon Ranch salad was not like anything I have had before and was a nice surprise to our taste buds. The salad included fresh bell peppers both yellow and red. It also had pickled onions, sunflower seeds, bacon and blue cheese that was all tossed together with ranch dressing which made it very convenient and easy to eat. Last but not least, the French Fries. They included a nice seasoning on the outside for a crispy texture and a creamy inside which I love. I liked the fact that they serve the fries with homemsde ranch and I didnt even have to ask for it...it's the little things for me. We sat inside to dine, I enjoyed seeing what others were eating, of course lots of burgers but also ribs, pasta, chicken sandwiches, salads and even cheese cake for dessert. I like that the menu offered a variety of options and brought great value for the quality and care that you can taste in every bite! I did not notice any issues with service as I saw other reviews reported. I would say that the inside, although cozy was a bit loud while others socialize. I think it was simply the high ceilings that carry the noise. I and my husband went last saturday. This is rating for the location and restaurant building and seating and beer. I have not eat their food. So I can't comment on that. Basically I got too scare to even try to eat there, after reading other yelper's review. But afternoon, my husband and I went for beer, I have soda. Their beer is good. 1) Decor is very nice. They invested a lot 2) One of the bathroom, is interesting. GORGEOUS Inside & Out, AMAZING Vegan Impossible Burger! Being plant-based isn't always easy when traveling through small towns. Oftentimes it involves ordering "accidentally" vegan food such as chips & guac and salad with no dressing, but the Watering Hole became our dinner spot for two nights in a row for 3 reasons: 1. The INCREDIBLE Impossible Burger 2. The BEAUTIFUL creek 3. The ENCHANTING restaurant interior The burger was to die for. Straight up. I was absolutely obsessed with their hamburger buns from the first bite. One of the greatest vegan hamburgers I have ever had. The service was also fast and the staff were attentive and friendly at all times. Inside, the restaurant had a VERY homey feel without being cramped like many other "homey" style establishments. The SOARING tall ceilings and SPRAWLING space made you feel like you were in a luxury cabin (complete with an inviting fireplace with relaxation seating). Outside, an EXPANSIVE patio/deck would prove as a great space for large parties and we loved sitting outside listening to the gorgeous creek) With a bag of free popcorn, I finished the evening with a quick dip-of-the-feet in the creek and I cannot wait to return next time I visit Murphys! read more

This was our first time in and it's great! I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5 only because they don't have any N/A beer. With their 40 beers and huge refrigerated beer selection, not one non-alcoholic beer to be had. I will say that the location is beautiful and clean, the service is great, and their beer selection was plentiful! There was a great food menu with lots of options. The beer is good. The atmosphere is great. However, the owner is very rude. He wouldnt recommend any other restaurant in Murphys besides his place and said we should go to Angels Camp instead. We were up for Irish Day and he couldn't even recommend any other bar on the main strip where the parade went through. Not good for the local economy. read more

Try to order a flight of beers and would you believe they don't offer that? You have 40 beers, but you don't offer the ability to try different beers? I'm just so confused. Why would I go to a place with a huge variety to order 1 beer not even knowing if I like it. How crazy is that? We walked in, was told we couldn't buy flights or samples and walked back out. First the good. Lots of beer selections, 40 beers on tap, hundreds in the cooler. Now the bad. The owner has a total attitude and is a total turn off. We had a good lamb burger but the Fried Chicken Pizza sandwich was literally full of human hair. The owner argued it was "the cheese" and said "I don't see what you are seeing." That's balls arguing with someone patronizing your restaurant! After him making my daughter pull the hair out to prove to him it was hair (one of many I saw) the owner's attitude changed. Now, being a local and living here, this is the first owner I have experienced that needs some serious attitude adjustment in questioning a customer who complains about a health issue. Making someone "prove" to you there is hair in food is a deal breaker to ever coming here again. There is the "The Pour House" down the street and they are extremely friendly. Also a local owner serving not just tourists but locals and understands the value of a small local community reputation. I am sure the owner will blow this off with his pompous attitude but word spreads fast in town. Being 75% empty on a Saturday at 6:30pm was a sign something isn't working well. The owner should take a good look at how he runs his business. I was so ticked I forgot to take a photo of it but 9 years of restaurant reviews and eating at hundreds of restaurants, we know human hair is not cheese! Insulting a customer is one of the worst things on top of denial. Won't be back and suggest you skip it. We went there for dinner, the man behind the counter/ bar was very rude. Maybe manager?? Brown haired short guy. I asked for extra BBQ sauce for the ribs, he rude getting that for me. The cashier said they have extra on the counter. After eating I asked for some foil to cover my plate to go so that I can take my leftovers home, he replies no, you can have this biodegradable box. (whatever) I told him thank you. Our other guest asked for an extra box for theirs as well and a bag so that the BBQ sauce would not spell during transport in my car. He thought he was funny and yelled at us across the room No you can't have a bag. I was like excuse me. " He replies we are not a Corporate company, and we don't just give this away." I told him after spending over 150.00 for food I should not have to ask for it. I will not be back, the food was just ok, the ribs were tough, and the BBQ sauce was not good, basically ketchup and brown sugar, the coleslaw was flavorless. I guess if you go here, bring your own bag to bring your leftovers home. The cashier was friendly and helpful and the cook in back was nice, but this guy was just an ass!! He can ruin a business. By the way, there was only our guest and a couple there, not like it was busy. No excuse for his actions. He thought he was being funny, we all thought he was a jerk!! I'm so surprised at the low rating this place has! We stumbled upon this lovely place while driving around Murphy. The food was very good, the big open space was warm and inviting, the beer selection was truly fantastic. The service was also friendly! They have small cute touches like a Nintendo 64 and It's-it ice cream sandwiches which we loved. Def recommend it :) We tried: jalapeño popper grilled cheese, spare ribs, and persimmon salad. Bright and airy with plenty of seating, pay at the counter and pick up at the bar. Unfortunately, they do not have many vegan options. They do have the impossible chicken nuggets and the french fries unfortunately are pre-battered and have egg on them. I just found this out after eating about half an order of french fries and feeling like I have to throw up. The staff weren't even entirely clear on the ingredients and I had to insist that he asked the kitchen to check the packaging just to find out what to expect for the rest of my evening. The person I spoke with even tried to gaslight me and said "well, maybe it's something else you came in contact with." Wrong. If something's got egg in it -- it's going to make me throw up and if I don't throw up then I'm just going to feel nauseous for the rest of the evening. There aren't a lot of options in Murphys but if you're vegan, give this one a pass. One star for the nice outdoor seating and one star for a beer. read more

A nice place to come to for the beer connoisseur. They have a variety of tasting options here, or you can also choose from their retail selection. For those that are not into beer, like myself, you can also get wine here (although options are limited), or just come for the food. They have typical bar & grille type of food - I decided to go with a cup of their tomato soup as well as an order of their fried cheese curds. Both were delicious - the latter, in particular, was super tasty but very, very heavy, so best to be shared with a group of people. They also offer complimentary popcorn and self-serve water here. There are some good things about the Watering Hole that deserve mentioning, but the glaring issues need to be covered first. 1) The system for ordering is cafeteria style , not appropriate for a beer place. Want another beer? Go stand in the line with everyone who is ordering food. So even though there is a bar with people pouring beer, you have a long line every time you want another beer, with yet another transaction on the credit card. We beer geeks sometimes want to chat with the bartender about beer as we consider our next pint, but here, they get your ticket, pour, and leave it on the bar for you to pick up. . To funnel people into the ordering line in the front, you're told by a big stop sign by the rear door to not enter through the rear, even though it's the easiest way to enter from the parking lot. Not a big deal, but still. When you are done, you bus your own table. This model is becoming increasingly common because its efficient, but something intangible is lost. The whole system alone is enough to keep me from coming here if I want a few beers. 2) Presentation is basically paper plates. Total mismatch with both the beautiful decor and the prices. 3) Not enough parking at busy times 4) Lots of TVs but they want music on so not a good place to watch a game. A very nice, spacious and clean place with nice ambiance and design. Ordered a cheeseburger and it tasted pretty flat. But passible. When I walked over with my food to get condiments and napkins the napkins disintegrated on my fries. Not a big deal,and rolled with it, but when I very nicely pointed it out to a worker, he shrugged and disregarded the comment. Okay, I really want to love this place but it's just a like for me. Yes the beer options are aplenty and the wine selection is tempting too. The atmosphere is great like a lodge up in the snow country that you go to and hang out with friends. And a great outdoor patio (dog friendly) that sits by a stream....ah relaxing... But the food menu.... There are some tasty things but for the price I'm paying for I want a little more and maybe some better presentation. For examples... the burger (which hubby says was good tasting) comes with no sides? No fries? No optional side salad? The house teriyaki salmon which was yummy said it came with seaweed salad. The seaweed salad about 2 tablespoons (barely two bites) was smaller than the wasabi aioli condiment that was served with it. There was so much open space on the plate. .... My recommendation would to be to add a scoop of rice (very low cost) serve at least 4 tablespoons of seaweed salad and make it a bowl. read more

The website says dog friendly when you Google it. We came in with our small dog & asked to sit outside with her. I asked if it would be warm enough, since the website says outdoor fire pit, which makes it sound really inviting, but when I asked about sitting outside with my dog, by the fire and if it would be warmish, they said no, unless I sat in the fire pit. Super disappointed because website made it sound really nice with an outdoor fire pit, but obviously that's not true. It's to bad the man didn't at least try to ask a few questions & make us feel even the slightest bit welcome, because we had over 20 more people coming to sit outside. The food was excellent! I had the bourbon smoked ribs and fries and coleslaw. The ribs had NO fat and there were 5 big ribs! The fries were the best fries I've ever had. Seasoned just right and fried perfectly. Crispy on the outside and fluffy in the inside. Veronica greeted us immediately and let us know all the ins and outs of the Watering Hole. Excellent tavern food....Loved my chicken sandwich....wife had good messy burger....both served in flimsy cardboard boxes...Kind of awkward to eat neatly. Service and ambiance? Kinda cool western style place but zero charm...Like eating in a nice barn. Regarding service? Well it's order off the videos on the wall. Order taker pleasant but he's just a cashier...not a waiter. From the outside appearance, you would think the place would offer higher end cuisine and service. It doesn't. The food offering is pricey and consists of a confusing eclectic array of pub food with some artisan themed plates, but without table service and served on paper plates. Everything we tried was "OK", but I wouldn't go back for the food. The beer selection was very good and consists of a rotating mixture of on tap and canned. Although the place was very quiet the day we visited, when I asked some questions about several beers, it was answered with a limited terse response. The interior is welcoming and has a lodge like feel, with a mixture of individual and family style seating. The outside patio is delightful, as it sits next to the creek, but could be better shaded. The Watering Hole was recommended to us by a local, which usually means the foods going to be good, it did not disappoint. I was craving some Tri-Tip, so when I saw the Tri-Tip Philly I was very happy, it was amazing!!! However, it's not your typical Philly cheesesteak, even though there was onions and peppers and a little cheese, the sandwich lent itself more to a Tri-Tip sandwich not a Philly. The burgers and ribs also looked quite scrumptious and by all means try the fries, they were perfectly crispy. I would have loved to have a beer there, seeing that they had 40 different beers on tap, however we were in town for wine tasting so I refrained. As for the seating, there was plenty of it. They also had a fire place, gas operated, but it was turned off. For the hotter days of the year, the outside seating look like a nice place to have lunch because it looked over the running creek. read more

My Wife and I went there Saturday afternoon 6-21-25 at 5:00 pm not real busy at all ...We were rudely greeted by the cashier (some kid with a pony tail) who seemed annoyed by Us placing an order and insisted we order something before we sat down . To make it easier we order a appetizer plate which was disgusting . Old salami ,old cheddar cheese and a pile of Cheez it ...really Cheez its .When the food came it was awful .I ordered a hamburger which they should re named to "'SLOP BURGER"" ....A tiny paper thin beef patty under cooked Covered in mayonnaise and lettuce ...just gross...My wife dinner was a bowl of soup that tasted like it came out of a generic can from a homeless shelter ...I have to admit that the beer selection is awesome but when I was looking at the menu over the bar the owner rudely pointed me the cashier to place my order ...
