I rate my experience 1 star, but I'm not going to rate the whole place 1 star, because it's always top-notch. I go here all the time, and I get five star experiences every time I go. I highly recommend anybody go here, BUT I HAVE TO SAY WHAT I HAVE TO SAY!!!!!!!!! I was there today, I do not know who the chef was (clearly not the usual one!!), but Angelica was working in the bar. I ordered my burger medium, and it was so far past well done, it was not even edible. It was dry and NOOOO!!! I always order grilled onions, and they have never once charge me for it. Today they charge me $.75 for four skinny strings of grilled onions and yet still put raw onions on my burger that I didn't want. I asked for extra pickles and did not get any extra. I ordered a glass of wine, they did not have any in the bar. Angelica went to the back and came back with a bottle of wine that was not chilled. It came right off the shelf, or at least that's what it tasted like. I had to fill the entire glass of wine with ice, and then it was watered down and was no good. If I did not take that burger to go, I would've sent the whole thing back. THEN! I pulled my salad out of the bag, it was in a teeny tiny bowl. When I eat the salad in the restaurant, it's in a big giant bowl. The salad in this little bowl was less than half of the salad I get had I eaten inside the restaurant. There is no way I will ever order to go food from old corner saloon ever again. I asked for extra lettuce, there was literally about 1/3 of the lettuce. I usually get in a regular salad when I order it inside the restaurant with my burger. Sad part is, and this could happen to anyone, if this was my first time eating at this restaurant, it would have been my last. There's no way I would've ever came back to a restaurant when they cannot get an order even close to right. #NotHappyAtAll and I just threw $47 in the trash. There is a 0% chance I will ever order "to go" food from there ever again, in fear that it will be a terrible order like it was just now. I don't have money to spare, and I literally threw $47 in the toilet today eating at old corner saloon. I could not be more disappointed. read more

I've played in the pool tournaments here a few times while visiting from out of town, and unfortunately the experience has been very disappointing. The person who runs the tournament is extremely disorganized--games regularly start late, and often tables sit empty while he socializes with people in the restaurant instead of keeping the tournament moving. On top of that, the way the tournaments are set up feels unprofessional. Instead of providing quarters for the games, the balls are locked into pockets with cups, which is frustrating for players who are paying to compete. I also don't appreciate being told how I "should" have played a shot or constantly reminded about league rules when all I want is to enjoy myself and have fun. It takes away from the whole experience. Service at the bar also leaves a lot to be desired. The bartender seems to give her attention mostly to male customers, and I've noticed women--including myself--waiting far too long to be served. I even had to ask more than once to finally get a drink while she was busy chatting with others. Overall, the lack of organization, professionalism, and fair service makes this a very disappointing place to play pool. read more

Great place! Great bartender, extremely welcoming and friendly even to 'different' folks. There were bikers, lesbians, families, tourists, locals. All mellow. Great burger and onion rings - crisp rings, juicy thick burger with all the trimmings. Even decent wine for my partner. Three TVs with three football games on silently. Don't miss this spot!! We knew in town and had to try the Old Saloon. Such a fun place... you can imagine what it must have been like in the 1800's! Old world charm on steroids! Food and drinks were really good too! We had the hamburger with onions rings and fries. On another occasion we had their barbecue ribs and chicken wings. Both were delicious. We have also had their pretzel bites, also really good...everything came out super hot. Highly recommend. read more

This place is a gem if you're into places with undeniable character... it's probably the oldest bar/restaurant in the state (1800's!!!) I fell in love with the place the minute I walked in the door & sat at the bar... "Merle Haggard" playing in the background & a polite and personable bartender/waitress/owner to greet you. Limited menu --tri tip sandwich or plate, pork ribs and cheeseburger. All was very tasty. Served with salad and French fries. Nice that they keep it limited but it was all really good (4 of us, each tried a menu item). Met the owner, Ira. Great atmosphere. Will definitely come back! read more

What a little adventure... didn't even mean to create such a micro adventure but on my business trip, I uncovered one of the oldest buildings in copperopolis, and the owners that protect it! Such a cool experience. My encounter is such: Met the grandson of the builders of this town. He's definitely the protector of the town. The local people here are solid! The overall vibe is accepting so long as you are a good soul as well. Amazing small town vibe. Enter with pure intentions and a good heart and all will be sound. Stiff drinks, friendly bartender, and humorous patrons. Located in the middle of nowhere. What more can you ask for?   My husband and I were on a LONG road trip in a truck and trailer.  We had been traveling since 4 am.  Around 2pm we drove near this place, and I just HAD to stop. I am a dive bar connoisseur.  The divier, the better, and this place lived up to my expectations.  It really is an old corner saloon! Everything about this bar made me wish it wasn't 9 hours from my home.  I loved the dollars along the walls,  the funny décor, along with the baseball caps along the ceiling.  Extra points for having flavored Bacardi!  I thoroughly enjoyed my Bacardi with soda water and lime, as my husband enjoyed his Jack and coke. I wish we could have stayed even longer, but we were en route to our final destination, which was still hours away.  This was a wonderful bar and the community is lucky to have it. read more

One of the oldest continually open bars in California ~ tales of Black Bart ~ It was a stagecoach post, among other things:: speakeasy / rooming house / brothel / There's still a hitching post outside. Had to check it out & watch the pregame hype on the XL TVs. Owner & patrons were friendly, & the decor & vibe took me back in time. This is a bar, that used to be a brothel, that serves up some basic food. Get it? It's not a cafe, or a lunch joint where you can take the kids when on the road, but a straight up beer slinging, whiskey shootin', nascar watchin' bar that serves up a damn decent burger. Coming home from a camping trip, we were looking for some lunch and ended up on this quiet old road in Copperopolis (first and may be the last time I spell that one out). Upon entering the empty bar, the heavy stench of fried burger lingered in the air, like you just walked in someones apartment who had just cooked some burgers. I gotta say that I love that smell, burger meat and fat wafting through the air. Call me basic or primal, but burgers bring out that inner cavemen in me. The old school bartender drops off our beers and proceeds to go in the back to cook our burgers. I hear a pan hit the stove, burgers frying, the shuffling to potato chip bags, I mean how old school is that? A $5 burger got you a 1/3 lber w/ all the trimmings on the side & bag o chips. This wasn't no teen aged, pimply faced, Metallica shirt wearing kid making this burger, but this dude made this like my late grandpa would of made it. Without having the greatest cooking skills, at least he took his time to do it right. And even though I had to endure watching Nascar on a lazy Sunday afternoon w/o air conditioning, in what is essentially a dive bar in Copperopolis, Ca., burger and brew in belly, things were not bad. This place is an institution and truly a part of history. It's also a great bar that happens to serve up some great grub; I've had the burger there and it was really tasty. In fact, once a month they do a prime rib dinner that seems to regularly sell out. With the history of the place, cold beer, and good food, this place heartily merits five stars. I showed up with three friends two girls and a guy and I talked to some other guy at the bar, I'm not related or dating the guy I came with but he got in an argument with the dude that was already there. So I didn't get involved with either of them? So don't come here they'll fuck you over for their regulars to make money. They don't care if you did shit or not. There are wings. There are ghosts of tales of Black Bart staying at this brothel-saloon. There's a patio on the back side that overlooks rough and tumble hills of copperopolis. Again, there are wings. There's a pool table. There's a full bar. There's, simply, no reason to just not pin a flag on your map and make this a destination when you're roadtripping California. Nice historic saloon with pool tables & free popcorn. They make a very tasty BBQ Pork Sandwich. The place is self-proclaimed as the "A**hole's Bar" and they sell t-shirts & bumperstickers with the same, so probably not the place to take the kids. read more
