Our family of six really enjoyed our afternoon at Murphys Grade. Oysters were so fresh and yummy. I like the sauces that came with the oysters, especially the jalepeno one which has a nice kick! The kids enjoyed the smoked halibut and bread while the grownups enjoyed some drinks and seafood. I really liked the lobster roll too, plenty of lobster meat in the roll. They had some interesting CBD drinks on the menu. I convinced my parents to try some. I can't try it since my company does random drug testing and I don't want t risk my job. Service was great. They kept checking in on us to see if we needed anything else. We were only there for an afternoon snack and so didn't order that much. The ambiance is nice and chill. Bathroom was clean. I would totally come again when I visit the area again.

Staff here are amazing, and the food is exceptional! This is my favorite restaurant when I'm in the area!!

Murphy Grade After a morning exploring the local caverns, we stopped by Murphy Grade for lunch, and it hit the spot! The place was busy, but we were excited to try some of their popular dishes. The lobster roll (29) came hot with garlic butter and was packed with tender lobster meat--definitely worth it. The kettle chips on the side added a nice crunch. We also got the New England chowder bowl (13), which was rich, creamy, and full of flavor. The food was excellent, and while the service was a bit slow due to the crowd, it was understandable. Great spot for lunch in the area! Def my new go to spot if I ever decide to explore the caverns again!

Oh my goodness--these lobster rolls are incredible! I meant to snap a photo before digging in, but they were so delicious I forgot until I was halfway through (see photo!). Truly indistinguishable from the ones you get in Maine--and that's no accident. The owners are from New England and they absolutely nailed that authentic flavor and texture (The bun is grilled to a delectable crispy perfection on the outside!). Gah! Pro tip: get it with the garlic butter. You will not regret it. We also had the raw oysters, which were super fresh and perfectly chilled. Service is always warm and welcoming here. Such a gem!

We live in Copperopolis, about 40 minutes from this resturant. Searching for a lobster roll we drove down to Napa and tried a highly rated resturant. What a joke it was. Our friends AND the owner of Murphys Grade jumped on our Facebook post to comment on our search to find a good Lobster roll. So the next day we headed over and gave it a try. Holy shit, lol, what a difference. Murphys Grade was leaps and bounds better than the Napa restaurant we went to. I can't believe we are so lucky to have a local restaurant that delivers such wonderful food. A fkn + Ok, so we got 2 lobster rolls, one Garlic butter and one regular butter. Both Note worthy! Do not hesitate if you like Lobster, they are very full, excellent rolls. Alsothe chips that come with it are a perfect addition. We also had hummus with bread, it's very good, and well portioned. I got a dozen roasted oysters, and they were also good. Customer service was excellent. I think the owner, and 2 or 3 different servers checked on us numerous times. But their timing was really well placed, not like sometimes when you have a server just hovering over you. They did excellent. Was a great experience and the way food service should be. Kudos to the owner for dialing everything in and having the servers and food to make it a great experience. We will certainly be going back.

    The lobster rolls - OMG!!

Throw a Michelin star on this place - for real! What a score we just happened to come across. We went in interested in trying out the lobster roll and walked out in shock - this place kicks a*s! Every item on the menu is carefully made with the absolute best ingredients! While we sat at the bar and watched the chef curate everything from scratch, we savored the crostini with homemade hummus (amazing!) and sipped on the best freakin bloody mary made from their homemade mix! Lastly, don't even get me started on the lobster roll! Yeah...the lobster roll - it's indescribable. You force yourself to eat slowly because you don't want it to end. Truly, a very special place in the heart of one of the best foothill towns. Not gonna lie; from the Bay Area, it's worth a trip to Murphys just to go here. Keep up the phenomenal work Murphys Grade!

This restaurant had an at home/family feel to it. The oysters were great! I'm normally not a fan of oysters but they were delicious from here. Must try the lobster sandwich!! Cooked to perfection with crispy buttery bread and delicious lobster. They have cool infused drinks too. Waitress was funny and friendly. Fun chill environment.

We absolutely loved finding this little gem! We walked in just out of curiosity walking by. It's super cute inside and very clean! They had an eclectic menu which I really enjoyed. The owner was the nicest and talked to us nearly the entire time. The oysters are delicious and FRESH !

    Best Porchetta sandwich, EVER!

ASTONISHING ***MICHELIN-STAR*** CLAM CHOWDER...AND MORE! My wife happened to look at me right at the moment I took my first spoonful of the clam chowder. She seemed alarmed, and asked if I was OK?! I was frozen in *shock* and disbelief at how magically *perfect* it was! I immediately put my spoon down and walked over to talk to the very nice chef-owner, who works in a small kitchen behind the bar, making every single thing to order on her own, as can plainly be seen by all the customers in the restaurant. I told her that I had always loved clam chowder, and I had had *lots* of excellent versions while visiting my daughter, who worked at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston for three years. But THIS clam chowder was something else entirely---a Michelin-star creation of subtle flavours that still allowed the clams to shine through and remain the star attraction! I asked if it had tarragon, and she smiled slyly and then nodded! We have been blessed to own a cabin in Big Trees for 16 years, but somehow we didn't hear about Murphys Grade opening up, so this was our first visit. Only half-joking, I told the chef that I now realized I had wasted the last four years of my life! We also had the grilled oysters, which were plump, wonderfully fresh and utterly delicious! Finally, we also shared the porchetta sandwich, which, like the clam chowder, was simply the best we had ever had! As others have said, ALL of the staff were wonderfully friendly (in a genuine way!) and extremely helpful. Run, don't walk, to this extraordinary hidden mountain gem, which is so impressive as to rival the massive formation of leaf gold held in the vault at Iron Stone! Thank me later---Cheers! P.S. We walked around Murphys after lunch for an hour, and I just could not get the magical clam chowder out of my brain. So we went back, and I ordered a QUART of it to take home! :-)

THE DRIVE IS WORTH IT! Tiny cute hole in the wall with quirky lights. We took a girls trip and ate here. Our server was awesome and was able to make recommendations on what kind of oysters to order. I ordered the New England clam chowder- very flavorful. Thin consistency soup. My friends loved it. I was looking for a more thick and hearty clam chowder. I ordered the lobster roll- this was ABSOLUTELY LIFE CHANGING. My only regret- I didn't order two more rolls to go. This is a must try. Freshest lobster. We shared the halibut spread- it was so yummy! Definitely must try! I wanted to eat all of it. We also ordered a ton of raw oysters and some baked oysters with Miyagi butter and garlic. All of them were delicious. Fresh.

In the area of Calaveras for the long weekend to check out the state park and surrounds - arrived early for a dinner reso elsewhere so we stopped into Murphy's Grade CBD n' Oyster Joint - how can one resist with such a name? We didn't try any CBD items, however, we did get some beer from the self serve beer bar (accessed with a "key") and enjoyed some oysters on the half shell - wow those were some fresh and tasty oysters, what a surprise in a mountain town! The waitstaff and owner were just fantastic as well, happy to help and happy to be there. They close kind of early, maybe that's why the employees are happy - work their hours and then the rest of the evening is theirs! Would definitely return here every time we pass through Murphys. Fun!

Then, came a long wait for a server to come. Once they did, after tables who had been seated after us, they offered us water that also took a long time. One of our servers was so kind, I didn't catch her name, but she brought our water and took our orders very efficiently, but was friendly. We ordered the fried cauliflower and alchemy burgers. Once the cauliflower came, our waiter told us that a cook had walked out mid-dinner rush had left them low on production. This didn't really explain the wait for service but we understood. I didn't get photos of the burgers when they came, because our table was pretty hungry after the long wait! The presentation of the food was ok but the food itself was pretty delicious. The fries were very flavorful and the burgers were cooked a perfect medium rare. We also got a butter pecan sundae that was very large, but good. If the food and that one waiter had not been so good, I would probably take more stars. If you are going to come here, I recommend having a lot of time and patience. 5 stars for the food, 2 stars for the service. Knowing this, I would be tentative to come back if we got the same experience in terms of service.

We've done both take out as will as dine in and have good experiences both times, although they definitely seem to do a larger volume of takeout orders. The inside dining has not been busy either time we were there, even on a holiday weekend. It could have to do with the fact it's not directly on the mainstreet, but it is a quick drive. The inside space would be good for groups as well and also kids. The menu is a mix of chinese and vietnamese cuisine, with some added outlier beverages like boba tea and smoothies. There are vegetarian appetizers as well as entrees. The prices are reasonable for the portion size. We tried the tofu spring rolls to start, and for our entrees we had the Tofu Pho and Szechuan Vegetables. The spring roles were tasty and came with a delicious peanut sauce. The entrees came out piping hot, and they gave us the standard add ons for Pho and had sriracha, hoisin, soy sauce and chili oil to add as well. The Szechuan vegetables had a good portion and came with white rice. Lots of broccoli, snow peas, zucchini and onions. The staff is very friendly and also funny, definitely one of the things we like about coming here. A great option in Murphys and we'd happily come back in the future.

Some things to note, highly encourage reservation ahead of time. We got there an hour before closing on a Sunday and even though there was a table open they almost didn't seat us. It is small on the inside with limited tables so I would not say it's great for groups. They stop serving about 30 minutes before the posted closing time and don't make exceptions. We ended up ordering a Jenni role which had tofu/cream cheese/cucumber inside and avocado/panko/doke sauce outside and it was seriously amazing. Although there were only two veggie roll options on the menu I could easily eat two of this roll alone. Things only got better with the curry. I assumed the curry was going to be Japanese style, but they are actually more thai style yellow and panang curry options. Unfortunately the Udon and Ramen dishes are not vegetarian as they are made with fish broth. But the yellow curry was perhaps the best yellow curry we've ever had (and we are a bit of curry snobs). The sauce was lighter than a traditional thai yellow curry and it had a delicious sweet finish. The veggies were tasty and fresh. When we come back to Murphys I will certainly be going for this curry again. I do wish they had a few more vegetarian options, but very glad the ones they do are outstanding.
