This is the second time we have visited Bigwood Brews Works and to be honest, I think I remember it being better the first time. My friend said that they were under new ownership, but I don't think that is always a good thing. The inside is not very big; there are a few tables at the front plus a bar area and more community-like tables in the other room. They also have 1 bathroom that is small but was upgraded in the last year. We sat at a long bar-like table at the back of the brewery which gave us a nice view of some of their brewery tanks. We ordered some beer, the Sweet Potato Fries, Soft Pretzel with Beer Cheese, BBQ Chicken Flatbread and the Kids Cheese Flatbread with Fries. The food was honestly mediocre; there was nothing memorable at all about anything we ordered. The BBQ Chicken Flatbread was dry and not very flavorful. Employees were friendly and our waitress was attentive and personable. Overall, it's a cool place in downtown Sonora, but I don't see us returning again - at least not for the food. read more

I went to "Bigwood"on the advice of several positive reviews, we even brought another couple to join us. Was prepared for an awesome burger. The restaurant wasn't busy and we had an excellent waitress.We are a fun group and she engaged with us.One of the ladies likes her meat well done ,myself medium rare. We were headed home from a backpacking trip with a bunch of kids and needed to a solid after backpacking meal on our way home. This place had great reviews and also, gluten free buns! We ordered like 5 burgers and fries all made to order and they got every order right. Burgers were solid and the gluten free bun was one is the best I've had! Great place in downtown Sonora! We were looking for an early lunch spot and this place was the first one open on the street. We were immediately greeted with great customer service which continued during our entire meal. The service was very fast and all the food was delicious. The restaurant itself was very relaxed and had a great vibe whether you're looking for a place to have some beers or stop by for a family lunch. Great burgers but the menu leaves something to be desired. Every month they do a specialty burger and this month was the honey bunny. It was topped with ham, garlic aoili, hot honey, fried pickles, cheese sauce on a sweet brioche bun. It was delicious but asked for medium and there was no pink left inside. The other ingredients make it plenty juicy but a bummer. The beet burger is a patty made with beet and apple. It was huge and held together pretty well for a veggie burger. There was a slight sweetness to it but very rich. The fries were perfectly crispy and definitely fresh. Where they lack is definitely the options. There are no seafood options at all and there are only three uninspiring Flatbread. The rest is basically burgers and sandwiches. Even there salad dressings there was only 5 options. The beer menu was also lackluster. Lots of run of the mill IPAs. No double IPAs or anything on the stronger side. They have a rotating tap so maybe they will do different brews next time, but there was nothing that stood out. The service was fine. It was not slow but if it was any busier I'm sure they need more of a staff. Inside it looks almost exactly like the place that was there before, the only big change I noticed was they now have no beer list in the main dining room and lots of single tables. The burgers were good and about the same price as others around town, but that's also why it's kind of disappointing. It's just another simple pub menu without many options. We have been here a few times before, but our son is a regular. They all know him there by name! He took my husband and me there for the cheesecake of the month, for our anniversary. They didn't have any more cheesecake, but when they realized that it's the whole reason why we went there tonight. Ashleigh, the waitress, called the owner and told him our son was at the restaurant with his parents celebrating their anniversary, so she told the owner to bring the strawberries needed for the cheesecake for us. He came from home with the strawberries and they made the cheesecake for us! Talk about going above and beyond for customers!!! I've always been impressed with the restaurant, the menu, the drinks, the customer service, but now I'm even more impressed! Thank you Ashleigh, Haley, and Glen! And the rest of the staff! The food (tried the naughty burger, the Swiss burger, kids Mac n cheese, and the hei hei chicken sandwich) was excellent here and the handcrafted beers were very good. The only downside is the place is a bit small for larger parties and it was hard to coordinate ordering for the dinner. The staff tried their best to take our large order and coordinate but it did take a bit while the hungry kids kept asking. But overall I would come back with a smaller group. read more

We decided to visit Sonora for the first time, and cold beer was sounding really good. We found Bigwood on the Main Street and were not disappointed. Super-friendly, welcoming service, and did I mention the beer??? I'm confessing to be an IPA snob, and both their hazy and west coast IPA's were EXCELLENT! The burger special (fresh mozzarella, pesto and other yummy stuff) was top notch. My only complaint is that when we went back a week later, that burger was no longer available. I visited here with my friends on a Saturday afternoon (November 2025) because we were told by a local that they offer a wide range of vegetarian options. Perfect because 4 of 5 people in my party are vegetarians. First, this place is not fancy, but it's clean; sometimes in breweries, the floor is sticky and the whole place smells like old beer, well, not here. The beer exceeded expectations. Sometimes, craft breweries do too much, with overhopped this and high alcohol that, which amounts to gross ass beer. The beer at Big Wood was easy drinking, tasted good, and was of high quality. You can tell someone took the time to make sure the end product was A++. I had a flight and don't know the exact names, but there was a Pilsner, a wheat, a pale ale, and an IPA, and they had 2 or 3 others that I didn't try - basically something for everyone. For food, my table got a giant pretzel with beer cheese, nachos, the bean burger with garlic fries, and the beet burger with hummus and carrots. The food was excellent, no leftovers.I had the beet burger, which was similar to a pulled pork sandwich, but the star of the show was the nachos. The chips were thick and made in-house, which was perfect for how loaded they were; a lesser chip would have buckled under the weight of the beer cheese, black beans, and all the other toppings. Oh yeah, you'll be able to talk to the owners/operators/brewmaster; it's a husband-and-wife team, friendly people, and, as I said, the husband makes a good IPA. read more

Bigwood Brewery in Downtown Sonora just opened up on Saturday. A friend of mine works there so i went by to check it out. They weren't quite open when i arrived but it was hot and the waitress (Kate) invited me in to hang out for a few minutes until they opened. I was taken care of immediately and had an iced tea while i waited. Everyone was inviting and friendly. Kate recommended the Beet Burger which i was a little apprehensive to order but wth, why not. I must say the chef there has definitely found a great combination of flavors to make the Beet Burger spectacular. Who would have thought beets and apples formed into a patty would be spectacular. It was. It was complimented with a mixed green salad and i chose the homemade salad dressing that was really good too. Glen the owner had no qualms about talking about his brew and was very friendly as well. Good people, good food, reasonably priced. Highly recommend. Faith (another waitress) is amazing too.
