Though we did not bring our pups with this time it was nice to learn that the outdoor patio was dog friendly. I will also look forward to cooler nights and eating inside in the very comfortable indoor dining area or having a glass of wine and one of their many small plates in the cozy bar area. Their menu has a variety of options at reasonable prices. Nice hearty dinner options as well as sandwiches, small plates, salads and flatbreads. They also have a nice selection of beers on tap (beer flights available) They also offer wine flights from their somewhat eclectic selection of wines including very nice selections from Murphys, Paso Robles and Napa. Hubby had the chicken Alfredo pasta and was happy with his selection. I had the Caesar salad and the pearfection flatbread a perfect combination of carmelized onions, pears and Gorgonzola and arugula. I would have added a bit more arugula but it was yummy!

I unfortunately do have to share the situation that transpired that was extremely concerning. I also did not want to write this without giving the restaurant a chance to correct the issue. I called them and that was appalling- I will write about that later. With them failing to correct the issue- I am forced to warn people. Myself, my husband, and my 8 year old daughter went there for dinner. We got there and got seated. I do want to point out the young man that was maybe the hostess was kind and accommodating. The real trouble started with the server who is also the owner. We placed our orders, I ordered a bbq burger, my husband ordered the V burger and my daughter ordered the v sliders. We waited an hour and a half with no updates on why our food was taking so long. It came out- with the server/owner woman (I think she had a piercing in mouth in front of her teeth- to explain what she looked like incase you're there). My husband was NOT served the dinner he ordered but instead the v sliders. It looked like a frozen chicken nugget was placed in the "chicken burger", a pulled pork (which I would be wary of- that is the only one that had too much sauce so you couldn't see if it was fully cooked). We pointed out immediately that was not what he ordered and she said oh we can make the other one if you want. Having already waited an hour and a half we said no, as we did not want to wait a minute longer. She said oh okay good, let me know if you need anything. Fast forward, we finished our very low quality meal (not only was it bad tasting/bad quality, but it was also overpriced. I want to say those 3 tiny sliders were $18 per plate). We paid- and tipped 20% to the server who we now know was the owner. When looking at the bill- she charged us full price for everything and there was never another mention of the mistake with bringing out the wrong food order. We paid and left. We as a family had all eaten the same food all day UP UNTIL THAT MEAL. My husband and daughter both got food poisoning, and I did not. My daughter was projectile vomiting from around 9PM-3 in the morning with her stomach in severe pain. I called today and calmly spoke to the owner, the minute she answered the phone, she seemed ready to argue. I got interrupted 4 times within the first 3 minutes of the call. I stated what I stated above, during the interruptions, she proceeded to say I will not get any type of accommodation because there are no other people that "called to complain" she used excuses like it was a busy night, said she'll check the kitchen etc. I stated, It does sound like those are things you need to take care of on the back end that don't have anything to do with me and this moment. I would like a refund. She said no and that there's no proof that that is what got us sick. I let her know I am appalled at the way she is interrupting me, speaking to me and handling this. I let her know I called to see how they can accommodate given the severity of this, and since it does not seem like she is going to do what's right I will have to write on Yelp to warn other people, she started raising her voice and telling me she won't stand for me "threatening her and her business". I let her know, there is no threat. I will simply state the facts of what transpired and how she is handling the situation, and I'll list her words so patrons can make their own decisions about visiting her establishment. My husband and I shared 3 dishes: 1) Lobster, watermelon, and basil salad 2) Blue maize wagyu corn dog 3) Short ribs with gochujang sauce. My fave was the lobster! The lobster tasted fresh, and was so good with the basil oil. It was a small dish, but had a good amount of lobster. The corn dog was surprisingly good! I don't typically like corn dogs, but these were juicy, and the batter was light. It was fun to try the 3 different sauces (roasted tomato jam, wasabi crème fraiche, and wildflower honey mustard). The short rib was tender and fatty. The sauce was a little too salty for my preference, but was still enjoyable. Tracie recommended the bread to dip with the sauce, and my husband really enjoyed the bread - especially with the butter. For dessert, we got the chocolate mayonnaise cake, which was perfection! We were seated at the first table by the entrance, where bright sunlight was pouring directly onto my face. There were only two other groups in the restaurant and at least 10 other tables unoccupied, so we politely asked if we could move back one table to another two-person table. Tracie told us they couldn't move us because other guests had gone online and selected the exact tables they wanted. We knew from making the reservation ourselves that there was no option to select a specific table. When my boyfriend questioned her, she backtracked and said something along the lines of, "Well, I mean, no... we just have all the seats accounted for." If the tables were already assigned or there was a seating policy, just tell us that. We would have understood. Instead, we were given an explanation that simply wasn't true. It took about 10 minutes to address the sunlight, and rather than moving us one table back, they eventually brought over boxes to block the light. What made the experience worse was overhearing Tracie, just a few feet away, tell another waiter to take our table. We felt like we were being passed off rather than welcomed as guests. We ultimately didn't order any food or drinks and before we left, we told them how disappointing this experience was for us. We came to Ursa simply expecting basic hospitality, professionalism, and honesty. If you couldn't move us, just say that. We would have respected it. But don't give us a reason that isn't true and then make us feel unwelcome.

When the food and drinks arrived, we asked the person who dropped them off if the outdoor heater could be turned on. He responded, "Ummm... ask your server," with an attitude, then walked away. That was essentially the last service we received. We couldn't flag anyone down for side plates, napkins, or utensils, so we improvised. Fortunately, the appetizer and desserts came with large serving spoons, which we used as our personal cutlery. No napkins, though--we were apparently expected to embrace the rustic experience fully. We watched nearby tables struggle to get service as well. Employees seemed frustrated whenever guests asked for blankets, since the outdoor heaters weren't being turned on. One manager told a nearby table that propane was being brought out for the heater next to us. It never arrived. Another two-top eventually left after sunset without ever getting the chance to order food or drinks. To be fair, we came during Labor Day weekend, and it was clear the restaurant had started the day in the weeds. Earlier that afternoon, we stopped by and the bartender at the front was visibly stressed. She told us we could seat ourselves, but that we were about 40 minutes away from receiving any service because she was the only employee working. So, if you come here, manage your expectations--and pack accordingly. Bring napkins, utensils, side plates, drinks, snacks, and possibly a small emergency flare in case your server has gone on a wilderness expedition around the lake. I have a gluten allergy, one daughter has gluten sensitivity, and my other daughter has celiac disease. We informed our waitress that we needed gluten-free options and were told they were out of gluten-free buns but had gluten-free sourdough. After double-checking, the chef confirmed it was gluten-free. Something didn't seem right, so we asked to see the packaging. Wheat was listed as an ingredient. Thankfully, we caught the mistake before eating it. Unfortunately, when our food arrived, two of the gluten-free meals were still served with gluten-containing items, including a flour tortilla and the same bread we'd already identified as not gluten-free. The food itself was actually delicious, and I wish I could leave a more positive review based on that alone. However, for anyone with celiac disease, a gluten allergy, or a serious gluten sensitivity, accurate ingredient information is not optional--it's a health and safety issue. The repeated errors from both the kitchen and serving staff were extremely disappointing and left me with little confidence in their ability to safely accommodate gluten-free guests.
