Came here for a late lunch as the fam and I could tell immediately that the staff were so so sweet and friendly. The interior is super chill and clean as well. Honestly the food tasted mid but I love the generous portion sizes. My hash browns came overcooked but it was still edible. I'd say the star of the show were the fries and the funnel cake waffles. It definitely tastes like a funnel cake! Glad I got to try this out, props to the staff for being so sweet :)

On the road enjoying the mountains and ran across this place. You know I am a fan of the Mom and Pop type of business or the small businesses. The food at this place is truly home grown. Portions are plentiful delicious and made to order served hot. We were here for breakfast but the menu looked good for all three meals. The service "Bonnie" was absolutely wonderful and the daughter of the owner although young was simply wonderful. The vibe of the place was an old farm kitchen type atmosphere. This is a place that knew the regulars by name and new comers were treated with respect and a sense of "your a new friend". We will definitely be returning to this cool place. Stop in if your in the Sonora area. My peeps I will SYOYCVN. Be safe nothing but love for ya.

I believe this was the grandmas biscuit breakfast. Delicious.

Went to Papa's New Roost in Sonora Sunday morning on our way home from camping at Black Oak. The atmosphere was so adorable but the food was amazing. Hubby said it was one of the best breakfast sandwiches he ever had. The scrambled eggs were creamy and perfect, as well as the biscuits and gravy. Those that know us know that we are big food critics. This place did not disappoint. The owner, Drew, filled us in with his lunch/dinner menu items as well. OMG. A must try.

Super friendly service! They did only have 2 servers and it was busy but they still managed to make us feel well taken care of. The food is excellent. They have the basic breakfast foods. The pancakes are so fluffy! The decor is super cute with the rooster them throughout. It's a great place to stop and get a hardy breakfast. The prices are a bit high but I think that's common for the area.

Good breakfast! I used DoorDash for delivery and everything was good. I recommend the corned beef hash and biscuits n gravy.

This has got to be the cutest cafe in town! I loved all the decoration, inside and outside. It has a homey welcoming feel to it. Speaking of, the staff here is amazing. Shout out to the two little girls taking everyone's order, including ours. This made our day. They were so sweet and deserve a raise. The food took a while to come out on a busy Sunday morning, but it was worth the wait. I enjoyed the fluffy pancakes and tasty sausage. Probably some of the best breakfast sausage I've ever had. I'd definitely come back to eat here :)

As the name suggests, this is a cute little Mom and Pop. There is a lot of good stuff on the menu and they have a lot of different prime rib options (prime rib omelette, prime rib scramble, prime rib sandwiches, prime rib, etc.). My husband and I both got the chicken fried steak and eggs with hash browns, it was decent, but they were very busy and it kind of felt a little rushed. The highlight of my meal was the homemade biscuit! I would go back just for one of those babies! My children got a Jr. breakfast and a cheeseburger and fries. The service was good, and all the signs and rooster decor were cute. They had a sign by the bathroom that said "Fluff Butt Hut" that we got a good kick out of.

    Eggs Benedict with Hash Browns

Our family of (4), two kids ages five and twelve arrived around 1130. First time visit, had been hearing great things and wanted to support local business (on Valentine's Day). We walked into the restaurant where there were maybe (4-5) tables being used. "Sit wherever you want!".....I find that to be very strange, putting the responsibility and choice on the customer. I'm imagining they're thinking something along the lines of choice being a positive thing....it's not. Stop. It's uncomfortable and a poor greeting too. After oddly looking around for a seat, we sat ourselves in a corner booth nearest the fridge. As we wait, I overhear the servers divide who's taking which table...another reason why it's very poor practice. Drinks were prompt by the "busser" gentleman, server was loose, took a knee on the dirty floor to get to eye level. Another, ummmm, uncomfortable and not "professional" look. We get the rationale. Stop. Read the room/table first. Server had dropped a straw for my water, immediately got a new one but left the old one on the floor the entire time. I picked it up off the floor toward the end of our meal. Additionally, In the corner of my eye, I also noticed a metal fork under a lady's table the entire time (even before they were seated). My daughter (12) pointed out others got their meal before us, but I explained our order may be a little more time consuming to put together so all good. The meal arrives, after waiting what seemed to be a lengthy amount of time...We ordered the recommended favorites Henny Penny with the Funnel Cakes, Chicken Fried Steak with Home Fries, Eggs Benedict with Hash Browns, (2) coffees, and orange juice....$87 out the door including a $14 tip, taxes, meal cost and $2 charge for using credit card via the provided app. $4/coffee. Eggs Benedict. One of the main components to a great Eggs Benedict is the runny or fudgy egg when you cut into it. Enough so you can stop it all up with English Muffin....right? The dish looked AMAZING, the ham perfectly browned, hollandaise sauce buttery/lemony seasoned well, alongside the most perfect looking hashed browns. I cut into the poached egg......hard yolk. Nearly green yolks. Depressing. I looked around for someone to make eye contact with me but nobody around. I was so hungry I just ate it. The taste was delicious but the mouthfeel was not there. Not fair. Equally as bad were the hash browns....rancid smelling and tasting. Smelled and tasted just like fish, spent oil. I'm talking I could not eat them. Each bite came with that rancid smell. Chicken Fried Steak with Home Fries. The chicken fried steak itself was crunchy in a great way, the country gravy was tasty, but underseasoned (nothing some salt couldn't fix), and it was a bit cold. Definitely not hot and nearly room temp. Again, great crunch and yummy gravy (underseasoned). The home fries were the worst. Undercooked, hard, raw potato.....and the thing is they looked incredible. My guess is they par cook them....if they don't, I recommend they do because the inside was not fork tender. It was like tasting a raw potato with a nice seasoned golden brown crust. It was hard to believe because they looked so good. Everyone at the table agreed who had a try. Not even 25% of the potatoes were eaten between the four of us. "Would you like a to go box for the potatoes and hash browns"? Ummmm, No thank you! Funnel Cakes Ok these were great, addictive, perfect exterior crunch with soft interior. Similar to a donut consistency (think old fashioned). The staff was friendly, in particular the lady that was working there that day. The gentleman server we had was friendly, pleasant, loose, acceptable. Unfortunately, I can not justify treating my family or myself here again. Hard to look past the raw potatoes, rancid hash browns, and (frankly pathetic) overcooked poached eggs. $87? Not fair. The "basics" and the "details" were missed. Don't take a knee while taking an order. Don't ask the customer to choose a table. The biggest problem was the food quality.

We enjoyed a delicious breakfast at Papa's New Roost. We ordered the #3 Omelette (prime rib, mushrooms, tomato, onion, and choice of cheese) and Papa's Hen House Hash (homefries mixed with prime rib, onions, and bell peppers, covered in country gravy, and served with two eggs). Both dishes were outstanding. We also satisfied our sweet tooth with some tasty deep-fried waffles. The service was friendly and unhurried, and the dining room was clean and nicely decorated. Our new favorite. Highly recommended! Papa's New Roost 20049 Highway 108, Sonora -- at Papa's New Roost.

Funnel Cake Waffles, Country Fried Steak, Grandma's Biscuits and Gravy

YUM, YUM, YUM. Everything we ordered was fantastic. Country fried steak had the perfect seasoning, and the waffles.. omg the waffles were unlike any waffle I've ever had. The owner was super cool and into music also. 5 stars!

I had the chicken sandwich, and it was quite bland and seemed to be missing seasoning. My partner enjoyed the fish, so that dish was a better experience. The biggest disappointment was the tzatziki. It tasted unusually sour, almost as if the yogurt had expired. I genuinely hope the kitchen tastes it before serving, as it didn't seem right. I did let the server know and she did let the kitchen know. I'm very familiar with Greek cuisine, and compared to what I've had elsewhere, the food here was unfortunately quite mediocre. I also noticed the owner's responses to other reviews. I hope the feedback isn't only acknowledged but also used to make meaningful improvements. I share these comments in the hope that they help make the dining experience better for future guests.

I looked up Bon Apetit - Crepes, Croissants & More on Yelp, saw a very good rating, but not too much information and only a few photos. Considering this business has been here more than 12 years, and boasted baked goods, I HAD to do my research and provide a bit more information. We came in after our breakfast at My Garden Cafe(please see separate review), so we weren't hungry but, again, research was the goal. The space itself was a bit surprising. Having occupied this space for so many years, I guess I expected it to look more like a restaurant or kitchen of some kind. It doesn't. The large interior space has a few small bistro style patio tables and chairs (even outdoor umbrellas!) and - I think - is meant to look as if patrons are dining al fresco in Paris, maybe??? But it reminded me more of a church or school bake sale. Folding tables with colorful tablecloths are pushed up along one wall and on them set large, food service grade, clear plastic bins with the baked good inside. Above each bin is a laminated color copy of the corresponding pastry affixed to the wall. Utensils, paper bags and tongs are available for customers to self serve their selections. A separate cart has a couple of industrial coffee carafes and paper cups for beverage self service, alongside a free standing water cooler. I asked if the pastries are made there and was told no. They are made fresh each morning by the owner, Bruno, and brought in in the bins and arranged, usually, under the display pictures to easily see what is in that day. So, while not conventional, this method obviously works, and has for OVER A DECADE. Unconventional bakery esthetics and sales methods aside, the products are what customers are repeatedly here for. AUTHENTIC, French pastries made from European butter, making them lighter than an angel's wings and tastier than the devil should allow. My husband was going to patiently wait while I chose my purchases, but I persuaded him to indulge in the last remaining buttery croissant as I added it to my bag of pain au chocolate. I'm such an arm twister.... CAUTION! Digression ahead: Recently, I had been excited about a different croissant purchase at a sandwich shop in Sunland-Tujunga, only to bite into something that was more like Pilsbury canned dough than a real buttery French croissant. I guess that unpleasant experience made me long for pastry vindication and Bon Apetit came through for the win! But even before my first bite, I asked Bruno what type of chocolate he used in the pain au chocolate. 'Today Belgian. I get Belgian if I cannot get French, because they are practically the same,' he replied in his lovely French accent. And I melted. FINALLY! I was getting AUTHENTIC pain au chocolate! I'm telling you, when you have had the real thing, an imitation French pastry, made with anything less than quality European butter and chocolate just won't satisfy. We enjoyed our lovely, delicious pastries a bit later, while visiting Bridalveil Fall in Yosemite. Briefly, I tried letting the pain au chocolate sit in the warmth of the sun's rays atop my dashboard, wishing I had a way to heat the pain au chocolate enough to soften the chocolate, but I just couldn't wait. I was still very happy and satisfied with the flaky, light buttery taste of the pastry and the wonderful flavor and texture of the chocolate inside. I am adding Bon Apetit - Crepes, Croissants & More to my "Cali Road-tripping" bookmarks and look forward to bringing my French pastry loving bestie with me for my return visit. Cheers! CC
