I had high hopes for this place given all the rave reviews but after trying it tonight, I really have no desire to come back. service: 5/5 no issues there. Our server was attentive and nice and the food came out in a timely manner. Drinks: 3/5 I ordered a sparkling lemonade (mocktail-like) and it was so sour. Pretty drink but would not order again. Honestly whatever was in it felt like it was stuck in the back of my throat the whole evening. My husband ordered the Kentucky Heat and he enjoyed it. Food: 3/5 the main attraction. Right? We ordered crispy Brussels sprouts and we were essentially served the super charred layers of the Brussel sprouts. looking at previous pics posted on here, I wish I would have sent them back. Ours looked nothing like what others have posted here. My husband ordered the burger and the flavor was good but it was SO oily!! I get it's a fattier meat but the oil seeping out was just way too much. And the fries were definitely undercooked you could tell by looking at them. I got the pasta (I don't remember the name) but again, super oily!! Whyyy?? It was lacking flavor or heat or something. It was just...fine. Wouldn't order it again. Ambiance: 4/5 pretty place. Good vibes. I was unaware they had live music so, that was a nice touch! I didn't like the separation of the place. It made it feel like one side was lively while the other was dead. And, if you're sitting in the room with the kitchen, you can't see the live music but you can hear it so, had I known they have live music I would have requested to sit in that room. Anyways. We ordered two cocktails which were good and very strong! Brussels sprouts - definitely recommend! Very god and comes with two sauces. Both very enjoyable. I came in Hangry, left smiling with tears of joy tha what is your name and didn't expect much of it. I thought this was going to be just one of those hype restaurants that was all over social media and didn't have great food. This ribeye was fire!! I thought it was a little too rare but noo!! Melted in my mouth and was season perfect with so much flavor. Cooked beautifully. Our waiter Lauren was very polite dispite my hangry attitude and was very attentive making sure everything was good and that I was happy. David came by and asked how our food was and had a great conversation with my wife, mother, and I. My wife ordered the oxtail and he gave us a great suggestion in taking the oxtail bone home with us and to put it in a beef broth and add ramen noodles to it!! From trying to get a seat (they were fully booked but able to squeeze us in after a short wait) to walking out, everyone was so nice and helpful. Our server was attentive and helpful with any and all questions. The food: My friend got the oxtail and said it was easily one of the top dishes he's had his whole life. The server recommended pairing it with rice and my friend agreed it added to the meal. I got the Caesar salad with chicken. The dressing was on the lighter side which was a really great idea because the toppings really bring everything together. The chicken was seasoned and grilled really well and could have been a dish on its own but welcomed with my salad to make it a meal. There were some small hiccups along the way, but we were checked in on and they made things right. Definitely excited about returning in the near future. Finally tried one of the newest restaurants in town & it did not disappoint! Griffin's has a cool vibe that's perfect for a date night or a fun night out with friends. The crispy brussel sprouts were insanely good especially with that fennel ranch sauce! The meatballs were rich and melt in your mouth tender. The Oxtail dish was next level flavorful with a thai chili lime flavor that was so delicious, just writing this makes my mouth water! Joel was our server. Service was top notch. We ordered the oxtail. I've never had it before and it was excellent. Loved the Thai flavor. We got a side of rice with it for a perfect meal. The ambiance is nice but the only thing I would recommend is to replace the red sofa seat, doesn't really match the restaurant style. The sofa is Burgundy color about the chairs are brown color. Been hearing nothing but good things about this place so decided to check it out last night & let me tell you, everything was absolutely DELICIOUS! Inside had a cute ambiance to it & was very clean. Our server, Michael, helped us on what foods to try & what he recommended & he did not disappoint. The first thing we tried was the patatas bravas. It was seasoned so well with delicious spices & flavors paired perfectly with this crema on the bottom. This is something I will definitely get again! We ordered the brussel sprouts-nicely toasted but quite salty. Meatballs-a little spicy and ours did not come with ANY garlic bread and very little sauce. The burrata-had a strange spice on it-I didn't like it and I always love burrata...it came with the saddest looking slices of small store bought crostinis. Finally the Caesar salad-which was the best thing to me. Cocktails were the only redeeming thing here. Also, when we checked in the host told us the place was very busy and that the bar was out of "juices" so drinks were backed up. Griffin's is a relatively new restaurant that opened up in downtown Brea, a few spots north of the Yardhouse. We found a parking spot right behind the restaurant and there is also a valet lot behind the Yardhouse. If you don't mind walking a little bit, there is also a free parking garage right across the street behind the Edwards movie theater. There is a nice patio area out front where you can dine to get some fresh air and a good view of Brea Boulevard. There are two main dining areas inside, a smaller one right when you walk in which has a view of the open kitchen, and a larger one next to it which houses the bar. We were greeted by our server Marilyn who gave us great service all evening and had good information about many of the menu items we asked about. They have a happy hour menu which is every day, not just weekends, from 4pm to 6pm so we started out with a few cocktails and an appetizer. The patatas bravas are nicely seasoned crispy potato wedges with several sauces that were very tasty. My girlfriend had the Pink Pomy Club cocktail which was a nice light drink. I had the Cats Meowtside which was ok but was very prosecco forward. The appetizer and entrée selection is not very big but there is a really great variety of things you don't see everywhere. She had the jackfruit tacos which she really liked. She also had The Crown cocktail which is one of their most popular and was also very good. I have never had Oxtail before and you rarely see that anywhere so I ordered that to try something different. It kind of reminded me of short rib and has a little silky texture. It is a little work getting the meat off the bones but the flavors were great and it was filling and visually looked nice. I had a glass of Chateau La Chapelle Aux Moines (a Bordeaux blend) red wine which paired very nicely with it. We got an order of brussels sprouts to share and it was a very large serving size. It came with two sauces, a fennel ranch which was really good but the buffalo sauce had a strange earthiness to it which neither of us cared for. We were totally stuffed so we passed on dessert but the whipped chocolate budino was tempting. The food and service were great. We went to Griffin's to try out their food and I must say that the food did not disappoint us. The Patatas Bravas was great. It was crunchy on the outside and soft in the inside. The dressing that came with it was great. The ox tail dish was also a favorite. The sauce that came with the dish was very tasty and went well with the dish. Of course we had to also try the ribeye steak cooked medium rare. I thought the place was just a steakhouse but it was more than that. They had lots of different dishes. My only suggestion is for them to update their menu on their website as we were told that they change their menu based on the season. Overall it was a great experience. Celebrated my birthday with family. The ambience was good but the food was too salty. I ordered beef short rib and my son ordered the skirt steak. Both were overly salted. The avocado on top of the skirt steak was blackened, bitter and still sprinkled with coarse salt on top. It would have been better left fresh and untouched to compensate for the extra saltiness of the skirt steak. The shrimp taco was not special.
