DO NOT GO HERE! Got my breaks done here, on one of my breaks they didn't tighten the bolts all the way that keep the break on the tire. It started to fall off while I was on the freeway and I was almost in a bad accident because of it! Sloppy job almost got me killed. Go somewhere else especially for repair work. Super bad store! Rip our money & did nothing! My daughter recently had engine light on & went to this store to check. They run the report & could not find the problem. They try to convince her change the timing chain which is "definitely no need". They did the oil change without her permission & charged her $560 did not solve the real problem. I had a great experience here. In an era of superficial, expensive wrap and move on service, Greg's auto shop is a gem from the past. The quality of service in my experience was amazing. I called ahead and dropped off my car. The main office was cordial, detailed oriented and welcoming. The service done was exceptional. I could not be happier with the quality and speed of the service we received. They are very fairly priced and true experts. I highly recommend Greg's auto. read more

I found this shop through word-of-mouth and wow did it live up to the hype! The folks here are so friendly and really know what they're doing. Not to mention, they got my car in super quick after it got damaged and some repairs were needed! They literally squeezed me in for an appointment within 48 hours after the car damage occurred and provided a thorough, in-depth analysis of the entire car, cost of repairs, etc! Be wary of bait-and-switch here. I called yesterday afternoon and asked for a transmission fluid drain and refill for my Honda Accord. I was quoted $150 + tax, and I confirmed multiple times that I would only do it at that price. I show up around noon today, and suddenly it's $350+ for the exact same "drain and refill." The older man at the front desk blamed my transmission type--but somehow that never came up on the phone. If $350 is the real price, then say that upfront. Quoting a low number to get someone in the door and then doubling it is not okay. To make it worse, while I was standing there, he kept answering phone calls and making me wait in the middle of our conversation. I was right in front of him. Completely disrespectful. I've had good experiences here with other staff members before, but this interaction makes me hesitant to come back. read more

Reposting my review from Google to spread awareness of the bad experience I had. Short version: this place betrayed my trust and you are better off finding an honest mechanic. I initially came to the Stewart St. location with an SUV from a Japanese brand. It was a beater and I had some dashboard warning lights related to my engine after driving during heavy rain. I even provided them with the error code I scanned showing them what the problem was. The parking situation to drop off your car is confusing and tight. The receptionist seemed to only be reading through what I had submitted on the intake form and didn't appear to be knowledgeable of what was wrong with my car. Despite this, my previous mechanic who helped me restore the car had said that everything should be good to go for driving in Seattle weather, so I had assumed that the only problems would be related to the engine code.. A day after dropping the car off, I got their report saying the engine was fine, and was presented with an almost $4000 work order with issues completely unrelated to my initial problem. The person on the phone did not explain in any depth why these were needed and was very cold and short with me. After I demanded to have these services removed, I then asked why they didn't find any engine problems despite me showing them the engine code. After they finally addressing my issue, they said every single spark plug and engine coil needed to be replaced. I was fed up and wanted my car back. It felt like they were using my car as an opportunity to accrue hours for higher labor costs and were trying to upsell me. The free tire rotation that I was also promised with the oil change was also cancelled for some reason. Greg's Japanese Auto felt like a dealership cosplaying as an honest independent shop. It doesn't matter that the regional manager had given me a refund for the services they had no business doing in the first place when they took advantage of my ignorance and good faith. Please avoid this place if you have an older car and or are unfamiliar with cars. read more

I was so impressed with this place. I was actually there about a month ago, but I haven't been able to catch up on everything until now. My daughter has a 2002 Honda Accord with a lot of issues. She somehow made it out to Seattle from Virginia in it. We were terrified it wouldn't make it back so I flew out to meet her and we decided that I would drive with her on the way back after getting things worked on. We didn't know a single person in Seattle so we really could have been taken advantage of if someone wanted to do it. Thankfully, I found Greg's and they were wonderful to us. My husband and I knew that the car was in really bad shape before she even took it. It didn't even have a current Virginia Inspection sticker on it. We had all the tires replaced somewhere else, but Greg's replaced the timing belt, water pump, the blinker handle on the steering wheel broke entirely off when we were in Seattle so we no longer had access to a blinker or lights and a few other things for us to be sure that we could get back to Virginia safely. They did it within a very reasonable time frame and did a great quality job. I can't complain about the cost either. It was very reasonable and it would had been so much more expensive and dangerous for us if we had broken down on the side of the road and had to try to get it fixed somewhere else. I even thought would we had even made it back if we had broken down on the Interstate at all. They really were concerned for our safety and even asked if they could keep it one more night just because when they were test driving it they heard another noise that they couldn't hear before they had fixed something. They really wanted to make sure that we stayed safe on the road. A person can never put a price on safety. I would highly recommend them to anyone. I have a very old car and I went to them to have a massive oil leak repaired. My apartment complex told me they would take away my parking spot because of my massive oil leak. It cost me over $5000. I debated whether I should just use that money as a down payment on a car, or get my leak fixed. While I understand that it would cost money to have my car fixed, this amount of money is a significant hardship to myself and my family. I had to borrow some of the money from my elderly father who is on a fixed income. I took a chance and had the car repaired at Greg's Japanese auto. I paid with a debit card, so they got their money immediately. They kept the car for almost a month; which was fine, because I didn't really need it. But they never expressed to me that there was a problem with the repair. It seemed that the car was working ok after they fixed it. But within a couple of months, it became apparent that the leak not only was still present, it was worse. It had taken over a year to make the big oil spot under my car at my apartment, and now the oil was leaking even beyond the spot that it took a year to make! I called Greg's AUTO multiple times to ask them what could be done about this. I received no return calls from them. I work 10 to 12 hour days, Monday through Friday, and I've told them that on the phone. I requested they at least leave me a message as to a particular time I could call back and speak with someone. But again, no return calls at all. I recommend if you have an expensive repair, consider using that money as a down payment for a new car, or go somewhere else. This is how people slide into poverty: I will likely have to sell a car for whatever pennies I can get for it, and give up my parking spot because my apartment complex will not allow me to keep it here with such a major leak. This is going to restrict my ability to work at my second and third jobs, as it takes over an hour to get there on public transport. Without my second and third jobs, it will be nearly impossible to stay in the apartment I currently live in. But, that is the world in Seattle in general; I suppose that is not the problem of Greg's Japanese Auto. read more

I took my Toyota to "Stooge's Auto" for a pretty straight-forward Suspension check. All was fine until I picked up the car. When I started it up, 3 warning lights lit up on the panel. It was idling low on the Tach as well, but I drove it home anyway. Called the shop, and was told I needed to bring it back in. Decided to surf YouTube and within 5-min, I found a post made by someone who thought the Toyota dealer had deliberately unplugged the Air Intake Hose on his car. The owner went on to explain that the hose will trigger a specific set of warning lights...same that were lit on my car. When I popped the hood, lo and behold the Air Hose was disconnected. And I STILL can't find info online showing the connection between the Air Intake Hose and the Suspension. Meh/Pfft/Grr/Eff these guys. read more

Halleluia! My old car is finally in great shape. I suffered through three years of a bad mechanic and was actually on the verge of replacing it, when I found these guys via an AI search. Took my car in, and they gave it the once over; found ALL sorts of things that needed fixing. Most of it was "maintenance", but why my other mechanic had not alerted me of same and performed it (despite my many requests) is beyong me! Had a few issues going on with my radiator and belts and such that could have caused a hazard. FINALLY have a working AC. I'm just celebrating. Love this place. Everyone is very polite and helpful. One star off because they could do better on contact, scheduling, and returning the car when they said they would. Their prices are quite steep, but certainly beat having to buy a new car or putting up with various ongoing problems. Would recommend. read more

My 2019 Honda Civic went on limp mode for some reason after work here in Seattle. Took it to the closest shop which was here at Greg's JAPANESE AUTO. They did some diagnostics and they replaced the camshaft sensor which took about a week. Within the next 2 days I got my car back. It went on limp mode AGAIN and more lights started flashing up on my dash! Took my car back AGAIN for the 2nd time then told me they replacing the crankshaft sensor next which costed me an extra $200 and took another whole week to get it replaced. Lights on the dash are STILL on. For an Auto-shop with the title "Japanese Auto". I am very unhappy about the service. I definitely got robbed. If you drive any Japanese cars. DO NOT take it here. Money is just coming out of your pocket and getting your car back worse than before. read more

I originally went to Greg's after my Subaru died on the highway. Greg's was great about letting me know the issue and had a pretty quick turn around time and fair prices. They quoted me some additional work to replace some belts and I decided to wait. When I came back 6 month later to get them replaced, they agreed to stick to their original quote even those parts have gotten more expensive. Driving in I-5 HOV lane in Seattle a couple weeks ago, starting a 2k mi trip home. Picked up a nail and front left tire lost air fast. Pulled off freeway quickly, and luckily Greg's was right at bottom of exit ramp. Shop was just opening for the day, approached manager right when doors opened. Got me in quickly, and within a few mins the repair was done perfectly and we were back on our way. Team couldn't have been more pleasant and accommodating and I want to thank them for making my day! took my car to be diagnosed, was told the water pump needed to be replaced. did some research on pricing but they quoted me over $1800 to replace. Toyota dealership was $500 less! I told the manage, Alex that he was up charging me because I'm a woman. Asked him if he'd speak to my bf about it, he said No! I'm having your car put together and it'll be waiting for you to pick up. I don't want your business. Also, they offered an Uber to drop me off at home after taking my car to them, but had me walk back in the rain to pick up the vehicle. Came in for an oil change. On the way home, my low oil light went off. To avoid the risk of continuing to drive my car with little to no oil, I had my car towed to a nearby auto shop and got a full inspection (not to Greg's due to conflict of interest in case something was actually wrong). It turns out Greg's Japanese Auto had forgot to put 3 remaining quarts into my car. Although they promised to reimburse me not only for the oil change, but for the necessary inspection I received from another shop, it's now months later and I have no such reimbursement for the inspection. Staff were friendly, but disingenuous about the follow-up that would occur following the mistake. Do not go here. read more

Was hoping to save a little money vs. the dealer on my GX470. Gregg's didn't respond to my email request for quote. I called them a week later and they promptly gave me a quote. I read to them exactly what was suggested by Lexus of Bellevue. They quoted me $2800 for a timing belt (same price as Lexus of Bellevue) and $1500 for front brakes because "they needed to replace the entire assembly" (note they had not seen the car). Dealer quotes price: $550. I'll never go here. read more

It was just a slow leak so refilled it and mounted the tire and replaced the spare. They did this all for very little cost. I've used Gregs since I moved to Seattle about 8 years ago. When I moved into town, I started coming here. First, have you ever seen a garage where you could eat off the floor? The place and the people are neat. My car has always been ready before I expected it. Much cheaper than the dealership. They repaired things that others wanted to replace. I know little about cars, but I trust them. They call with the amount. They will drive you home if you don't want to wait and pick you up again. My minor criticisms: They don't seem to get messages from the website, and it would be great if they had a tow truck. I'm not the sort of person who has a long relationship with a business, but this is the one exception. If they closed down, I'd sell my car. I've referred many people here. read more

I managed to get a battery installed which I did BTW but it was low on voltage. They took advantage of me and charged me for services that DID NOT FIX MY CAR. My car was worse off than when I dropped it off. As a woman, I am discriminated against every day.. I did not need this. They know EXACTLY what they're doing. They create a long list of repairs (many of which you don't need) and then don't explain (in layman's terms) why they're needed. IF YOU AGREE to have any work done it doesn't matter if the repair is done right. "We have you on tape agreeing to the work". That's the motto at Greg's Japanese Auto. No customer service. My battery died and had to be jump-started every time I needed to drive, so I took my car in to replace the battery. Not only did they charge for the battery/alternator inspection ($65, which almost all other shops offer that 5-minute service for free), they also charged that $65 on top of the parts and labor for replacing my battery. They also told me I needed a new alternator for my 2015 Honda, which is in good shape. They tried convincing me that the faulty alternator was affecting my battery life, and that it would be around $1,500 for parts and labor. I went to two other shops to get a second opinion, both of which tested my alternator for free, and they both told me my alternator has no problems and is running just fine. I will not be coming back to Greg's, and I've warned my friends and family to avoid coming here as they recommend overpriced, unnecessary services. read more

I had an emergency where my LS430 alternator died late at night. I left a message to see if I could get an appointment in the following day, and they called me back saying that they were fully booked, but that I could bring in my car anyways and they would take a look! The first red flag was when they said my car needed over 2k worth of work. I knew it needed some work but the problem was they wanted to "fix" something that was done recently at another repair facility. The only reason I brought it in to Greg's was because it was on my way home and convenient. One thing they wanted to fix was an oil leak. My car has never left one drip of oil in my garage. I just checked again and nothing! So in my opinion, Greg's wanted to fix something that was already done (I know it was because the shop gave me the old part and even took a picture of when they took the part off my engine so I would know) and they wanted to fix a non existent oil leak. Took my car to my mechanic who has been in business over 30 years and he laughed after checking out everything they said needed to be done. Fixed what needed to be fixed and charged me under $500 to do so. I think I will stay with the mechanic I have used for years and trust. read more
