I requested to have my landcruiser's drivline u-joints greased and an oil change while I was at it as I do not have a lift at home and wanted to grease without the wheels being loaded. They responded saying they do not service vehicles without an initial inspection which has a baseline price of around $195. While not super excited about this, it was reassuring that they wanted to make sure the car was in good shape overall, fine. Pacific Rim called me later saying the service was done and they noticed the clunking while shifting (why I wanted to get the u-joints/driveline greased in the first place) seemed to be coming from the front diff. They then suggested i replace the entire front diff, which would run around $5200 total. Also, they were unable to find the zerks in order to grease the truck. I passed on such a huge repair for now and took the truck home. Frustrated they couldn't grease the driveline, I shimmied under the landcruiser in my garage and lo-and-behold I found the zerks on my own. Used my own grease and grease-gun and did it myself, despite the car being on the ground ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. The clunk was markedly reduced, not gone but i suspect the slip- and u-joints were super dry and needs some time to work in. Granted, I had to drive the car slightly forward and back to get the driveshaft in the right orientation for reaching each zerk, (which wouldve been easy to do simply by turning the driveshaft by hand while the car is off the ground in neutral, again a reason i took it to a shop in the first place). I'm not a mechanic, I'm sure they know better than me on most things related to my own car, but i heavily researched this clunk before taking it in and identified greasing the driveline as one possible fix for this symptom. It's easy and cheap and at the very least would indicate if thats the true issue, all at the low cost of grease (14$) and 15-30 mins of labor. But to jump to replacing the entire front diff is a huge conclusion to reach. I even asked if they looked at the bushings on it to see if that might be the issue and they said they hadn't. Meaning without much actual investigation they were ready to sell me on a $5200 repair! Overall, Jeremy was super nice and responsive in communication. I hate to leave such a negative review because everyone I interacted with seemed great, and their other reviews are so positive. They even offered a loaner car if i were to go ahead with the big service, which is an awesome option to provide. But, it is hard to trust this shop when they couldn't do something so simple that i had specifically asked about when I first went to them. read more

My car's alternator started making a high-pitched whine and taking voltage measurements showed that the alternator was not charging the battery when the car was running. The alternator I was thinking about buying wouldn't ship from Rockauto until mid-month and I decided to get some quotes and see if it could be fixed sooner. Had a great experience at Pacific Rim, called in for a quote from Elijah & was provided with an option with a package which they were able to remove some customizations from since I just got my oil changed recently. I was told by my oil change facility that I needed some services done; and the price was astronomical in comparison. The prior place was quoting me over $1.5k prior to taxes to get my services done. My car is nearly 200k so they performed a safety/vehicle inspection, battery check, replaced the spark plugs, cabin & engine air filters, changing the engine oil (synthetic) & filter, changing the coolant, transmission fluid, flushing the brake fluid and rotating the tires (if needed) for nearly half of my quote from my previous place. I really appreciated that they weren't trying to price gauge me. I made an appt for the next week and dropped it off in the morning and it was done an hour prior to closing. I even noticed they replaced my car remote battery that was out, which was super kind of them! A few days later I noticed the engine light went on during a road trip, they were super quick to address it and give me some directions over the phone and text based on the photo, and also very welcoming to having me come back if there was anything going on. It was likely the gas cap not being on all the way like they said since it went off after I refilled up my tank. Updated review: 3 years after they put in a replacement radiator and starter in my car, it is still going strong! And it just reached 200k miles, with lots of life left in it! The replacement parts are of great quality and held up over time. They also worked on my previous car, which reached 260k miles when it finally gave up. This is the first time I've gone to Pacific Rim for car maintenance work. It started out with a Yelp message to get new spark plugs, trans fluid and oil change for my 2015 Q50. I was helped out by Jeremy and he even noticed I had a few other pieces of maintenance that needed to get addressed such as my brake pads. (Review is Updated below, moving from 3 to 4 stars) I took my 2000 4runner here after I was having issues with a cylinder 1 misfire. It was throwing a P0301 intermittently and running extremely rough. I replaced the spark plugs, wires and coil packs myself to see if that would remedy the issue but it unfortunately did not. After calling several shops and hearing they were booking out 6 weeks, I was happy when Pacific Rim told me they could get me in the next Monday. It was Thursday. So I made the appointment. I let them know what I did and told them I suspected it was a bad fuel injector. They let me know on the phone, and at the time of drop off that they had a policy that gave them between $400 and $800 to diagnose and fix the problem. If it was going to be more than that they said they would call. They called me later Monday morning to let me know it was indeed the injectors and that to replace all three on the passenger side it would be a little over $900. He then told me that my "power steering rack was dangerously worn, that it was a safety issue, and that it must handle like s&$*". I told him I did not notice any issues with it but that I believed him. I said I would need to call my wife to discuss the cost and how we wanted to proceed. I talked to my wife and let her know that for $300 in parts and my time I could replace all six injectors and that I thought we should just have them fix the power steering. When I called back to let them know the man who was helping me said they had already completed the injector work that morning. After confirming they already did it o was a bit frustrated and confused but told them to go ahead and fix the steering. The total was over $2800.00 When I picked up the car I said "no one is ever going to feel good about spending $3000 on their car, but I need your help understanding a couple things. I have never noticed any issue with the steering and have never had any leaks. What was going on with the steering rack?" He said the whole thing slid back and forth and the wheels moved when they pushed/pulled on them. I said that I trusted them and that sounded OK. I then said (very calmly) "help me understand your policy on repairs. You said the working range was $400-800. When you called you told me it would be just over $900 for the injectors and about $1800 for the steering rack. I Said I needed to talk to my wife and when I called back to say I would take care of the injector repair myself you said you already did the work earlier that morning". He then said to me "well, if you really want to pitch a fit about it I can go in and yank out one of the injectors to get it below $800". I told him I just wanted to understand the policy. Again, I was very calm and polite and in no way was suggesting I was even thinking of "pitching a fit". The response certainly caught me off guard. So...yeah they seem to have done acceptable work. Though I just literally picked it up (I'll update this review if needed). And I think they may have washed the outside. But I am not pleased with them doing work without my approval. And I am really unimpressed with the level of professionalism. I work in Healthcare. If a patient was upset with a bill I would never say "yeah, well if you're going to pitch a fit we can yank that IUD out if you want to make it a few hundred bucks cheaper". After dropping that kind of money, I would have hoped for a better response to my genuine, and valid questions. ***UPDATE**** After I had recurring issues with my car running rough I spoke with John, the business owner. John was helpful in listening to my concerns and he was eager and willing to make things right. While we were not able to resolve issues from my previous visit, he did what he could to make our second encounter right. I appreciate his listening to my concerns and for working with me to create a plan of action that we could both agree on. Great service recovery. I can tell John is passionate about his profession and cares a great deal about his business. With some coaching and fine tuning of interpersonal skills at the front desk, I feel that I could recommend Pacific Rim so long as communication and expectations are clear. read more

Avoid. Fake repairs. My daughter took car for here because our normal mechanic was on vacation. They claimed that she urgently needed new front brakes. This surprised me as they had recently been done. I took to a different shop to verify. The brakes were almost new. They tried to up sell my daughter about $800 in unneeded work. Bad. read more

I TOLD MY DAD, MY BEST FRIEND, AND MY GRANDMA ABOUT PACIFIC RIM AUTO! I cannot say enough about the amazing service I received from everyone I interacted with at Pacific Rim. These guys saved me over 500 dollars. Fast, friendly, and honest service. I brought my car to another shop in Seattle to have my rear brake pads and rotors replaced, this shop told me my brake master cylinder also needed to be replaced. Before they started work, I called around and asked for quotes on the brake master cylinder. John called me and we discussed what the other shop wanted to do. He said for my particular make and model a new brake master cylinder seemed very unlikely, and he wanted to take a look at my car. Boy was I lucky he did! I towed my car over to Pacific Rim and he called that same day to tell me they had found the problem and it was only a caliper pin. They replaced everything that SAME day, and Jeremy even offered to stay late so I could pick up my car after work. I even asked John if he thought my front break pads needed to be replaced, and instead of just making more money off of me, he said he thought they had about 2 years left on them. I will definitely be back. I'm not from Seattle, and it can be so tough to find a great car mechanic who you can trust. First time at Pacific Rim. I brought our 2008 Subaru in for an oil change. Because of mileage (106K) we discussed what other work should be looked at. I decided to come back the next day with my service records and we went over the items. I should have realized but it was legitimately time for the timing belt to be changed. I asked about the other components that are exposed (water pump, tensioner, bearings, thermostat) and he said, that everything gets replaced which is what I wanted. (Note: Just getting in to do the timing belt is expensive. Getting all these done now is more cost effective than suffering a failure and doing them serially.) The car was left, but while doing the work they found that the spark plug seals were leaking and the control arm bushings also needed replacement. This was all legitimate given the age and mileage. We got the car back the next day, and all has been great. Jay was our Service Advisor and I found him to be very professional. I am also very pleased with the work and I will be using Pacific Rim as we go forward. Very Highly Recommended. read more

Our check engine light came on, we got the code from O'Reilly and was told it wasn't a terribly urgent issue so I came home, lazily called around to a few shops and submitted an online form with Pacific Rim-- Jeremy replied to me within 2 hours with how they approach this particular issue, the common issues that cause it, what might cause it to cost more (which they would confirm with me first before doing anything) and answered all my questions about the tune-up we plan to have done in the near future. Lucky for me they were able to fit me in the following morning and Jeremy had my car back to me the same day! I don't want to set an impossible standard these guys, but I am so grateful for the super fast turnaround! Jeremy went above and beyond answering all my questions about other funky issues with my car and gave me a list of what should be addressed first. So i am keenly aware of how hard it is to find a shop that won't charge you what they can get away with. Pacific Rim is the shop you are looking for. Integrity on top of first rate service. I dealt with Elijah who was friendly and kept me up to date the entire process. And he was very patient with my being late to pick up the car due to work obligations. Out of warranty auto service can be very stressful, unless you find a shop you can trust to mot price gouge and to get the work done right. They charged me $1,100 for a knock sensor repair on my 2013 Hyundai sonata. $100 for the part plus 9 hours of labor. Mind you, in reality this part costs $35 (RETAIL not mechanic price) and about 1.5 hours of labor to replace. (Where did the 7.5 hours go??) They thought I'm some dumb woman who knows nothing about cars but I was testing the waters for business purposes. Little did they know that my husband is a certified mechanic who owns his own shop and that we know the hours/parts needed for a job to be done via the SAME software ALL shops use (identifix, Mitchell, Snap-On.. etc) . You're not paying for quality service coming here. You're just paying for their expensive rent/living in Seattle LOL. FACTS: my husband's shop fixed a knock sensor repair on a 2021 Hyundai Santa Fe for $500 (parts plus labor & diagnostic & taxesss!!!) Whaaaaaat!? (We're actually honest) so yes, I'd recommend coming here if you want to get ripped off. Otherwise, there are so many other honest mechanics who can do the SAME quality job with the SAME parts for MUCH MUCH cheaper!!! Mechanic shops like this typically up-charge their parts anywhere from 50-100% retail plus tack on unnecessary hours of labor. To all you who think you've been getting honest service here ....lol. You're just paying for Pacific Rim prices. Go 20-30 mins elsewhere and you'll get a much better deal!!! read more

This shop is close to where I live, so I called to get an appointment for an oil change and tire rotation. Rather than just accommodating my request, the consultant said that I needed to make a "5K first- time" customer appointment for $179. On top of that, they charge me an additional $31 to repair a leaking tire that had a nail in it. In a previous review on Yelp, I saw that they fixed someone else's tire for free! I booked the service and as soon as they had my car on the rack, the consultant called me with an $850 estimate!! He advised me that I needed several of my fluids changed and both air filters. Since the car is a certified, used car from Honda, which I purchased 10,000 miles ago, I told him that I wanted to call the dealership first, and Honda service advised me that per the maintenance schedule for my vehicle, NONE of those services (fluid changes &/or filters) were needed at this time. I'm very disappointed in this shop and their attempt to perform unnecessary services to my vehicle. Additionally, One of the two services I had requested was tire rotation, which would also include checking the air pressure on my tires. After I got home I checked my in vehicle display, see the enclosed picture, my four tires are not reading the same pressure. Again, very disappointed in this shop. read more

This shop is very expensive and shady. On three separate occasions I ask for a specific service and was told they either couldn't or wouldn't and suggested a difference service. the last service broke me and i will never suggest this place, $9000 for an engine swap when I knew my block was fine and could easily be rebuilt. They were terrified to do the job so I did it myself and the truck runs great now. The front end has limit skill and confidence in the mechanics and you can tell by the work they do. My first service was routine and they missed three bolts, two of which were on the top of the motor very obviously missing. The second situation was my girlfriends car, where they charged her about $1200. We didn't like the service and nothing was fixed with the car. Not until we went to another mechanic did we realize how bad this shop is. I don't understand the rating this shop has based on my experience. There services charge 30% over market and suggest services that cater to there staff not your vehicle. This place will rip you off at any opportunity plus already inflated prices for being in Seattle. read more
