    Macallan 12. Generous pour.

I don't patronize Old Mill restaurants all that much. Anthony's is my favorite for the happy hour bar experience. Frankly, Greg's has never been on my radar solely based on negative reviews, which is a bit unfair. Anyway, stopped in for drinks at the bar and I'll rate that at 4 stars. - Generous pour of Macallan 12 yo scotch from the bartender. - Comfortable padded seats at the bar.

Beautiful building inside, reminds me of a ski lodge. Waitress was great and made great recommendations. I went with their Prime Rib (served on Friday and Saturday). Came with loaded baked potato and opted for a side salad. Food was good and the ambience was really nice. There is seating outside by the river which looked great.

My wife and I stopped here on our way home to Seattle. We got great service from Esme and Jason. I ordered the Mushroom Carbonara and my wife got the Sunset Salmon Salmon. Both dishes were delicious. The Mushroom Carbonara was interesting in that instead of noodles it had finely sliced cooked cabbage. I took the leftovers home! Esme was BUSY but did not leave us unattended and was helpful in picking out dishes to try since this was our first time here. Near the end of the night Jason stopped by and shared some fascinating history of the area including the conversion of the powerplant. The restaurant was nicely appointed, has a great view of the Deschutes River, and has nice outside dining. The building, location, food and service all came together to make it difficult to try another restaurant next time.

Savor the View and Flavor at Greg's Grill! Perched above the stunning Deschutes River with the majestic Cascade mountains as your backdrop, Greg's Grill is a feast for the senses! We Enjoyed a delightful spread featuring crispy calamari, refreshing Roasted Beet Salad, a towering Stacked Steak Sandwich, fish and chips, and succulent Beef Tenderloin. We also enjoyed wine and Irish coffees. Huge thanks to Cameron for the fantastic service that made our visit even more special! Cheers to good times and great food!

Mary and I stopped in for lunch today. We were greeted by friendly staff and seated. There is a modern upscale feel to the restaurant; nice views of the river. Mary had the daily special; Cesar salad and chicken pinna pasta; tasty but standard. I had a bowel of clam chowder; tasty, but clam chowder should never have carrots in it!

I would recommend making a reservation if you want to be seated at a table, there is usually a line at the door for walk ins when they first open. With that being said, you may be sat at the bar if they reach capacity but that is NOT a bad thing - this last time we sat at the bar and had a wonderful experience! The food is 10/10 - our favorite is their hangar steak! If you are in the mood for an appetizer the poutine fries are also 10/10 ! All their cocktails we've tried throughout our visits have also been amazing! The atmosphere is great! The service has always been 10/10 as well - their customer service is unmatched, the owner always makes you feel like you're part of the family! I walk into most places already halfway disappointed. Not here. We had an early reservation at Rancher Butcher Chef at 4:45 with some friends visiting from out of town, and right from the start it felt right. Walked in, instantly greeted, super friendly, no awkward standing around wondering who's in charge. The place was still quiet, which made it even better. Drinks came quick, appetizers followed, and let me just say this... do not skip the beef tartare. Seriously. Not negotiable. The escargot was also ridiculous in the best way. Now the real test... the steak. Perfect. Cooked exactly right, seasoned like someone actually cares, not just throwing salt at it and hoping for the best. This is one of the few places I've been where I'm not sitting there thinking "I could've made this better at home." Then came dessert... some kind of banana cold cake situation that I didn't fully understand but absolutely devoured. Whatever it is, order it. Ask questions later. By the time we were finishing up, the place filled up fast and got a little loud, but honestly that just confirmed what we already knew... when a place is this good, people show up. Great service, great food, fair prices, and a steak that actually lives up to the hype. What more do you want... a personal rancher cooking it at your table?

I took a moment to study the vintage photo of the original firehouse that now serves as the brick bones of the restaurant. Awesome seeing the original garage doors and recognizing where the fire trucks would have sat in waiting. They even kept the fire pole above the bar. I found myself wishing other areas of the restaurant had been designed or decorated more intentionally to honor its soulful past. It wants to be a high class spot, but something about the interior design feels underwhelming. I enjoyed the drinks I tried although the menu seems a bit unimaginative. The energy was strange, maybe it was that night, but bar staff seemed to be a bit "altered" and on edge. One was wearing what may or may not have been an intentional cologne that smelled like the overpowering essence of hot rubber mixed with cigar smoke, and leather. I ended up ordering the fresh steelhead and it was amazing. Caesar salad was lovely. And the drink of the night was called something like a White Christmas but was sort of a wintery margarita. Awesome night in the end. But I prefer the Redmond location.

I found Brickhouse thanks to Yelp! and I was sold when I saw they had French Onion Soup and Blackened Ribeyes. The only problem was that it was a Sunday night and it would be 8 pm when I finally made my way there. They were open until 9 pm, but I know a lot of restaurants will close early if they don't have enough patrons. When I showed up at the restaurant I asked if they were still serving and the waitress that helped me went to check. The Manager came out and was very nice and said they were. I asked for the bar and he led me over to the bar with a menu. The bartender was incredibly nice from the get go. I should have written the review earlier, because then I would have remembered his name, but unfortunately it escapes me now. I already knew what I wanted but I didn't want to rush through it. I ordered a dirty martini and the French Onion Soup. Both were great. The soup was loaded with Gruyère, which I loved. It was rich and wasn't overwhelming with the onions. It hit the spot on this cold (to the Californian) night. The bartender recommended I try the Wagyu ribeye and I figured why not? So, I got the Blackened Wagyu Ribeye. It came with mashed potatoes and roasted veggies which were both really tasty. I like mashed potatoes, but I'm not crazy about them, but these were really good. The steak was huge and they cooked it perfectly. The blackening seasoning wasn't quite as flavorful as I am used to, but it was still good. I managed to get through the cap of the ribeye and that was delicious. I also had a glass of wine with my steak that the bartender helped me pick. Everything was really tasty, the restaurant was clean and upscale looking, and the people working there were very nice. It was the perfect way to spoil myself after transporting my foster kitten to Spokane and then driving back to California. I would definitely return if I make a trip through Bend again.

We were greeted by the host and seated quickly. Unfortunately, our main courses came out much, much later and lukewarm. Luckily, the food was good enough that it made up for the temperature. I had the NY strip steak. The steak and the Boursin mashed potatoes alone were very good. The pickled onions and chimichurri complemented the meat very well. The meal was supposed to include brussel sprouts but came with a grilled broccoli cauliflower assortment instead. My wife had the Scallop Risotto which was also a great recommendation from the server. In reality, The Hook & Plow deserved 3 1/2 stars but that's not an option on Yelp. The menu isn't very large and I think we both settled on choices quickly, deciding to try the most "quintessential" entrees to share. I chose the Blackened Redfish, and my boyfriend the Jambalaya. Even though we had already decided, the waitress went on her whole spiel through the menu highlights, including what we had already had planned to order. Awkward, but it was fine, and we didn't stray from our original choices. The Blackened Redfish was perfectly cooked and flaky. It was served on a bed of mashed potatoes with a slightly tangy sauce. All of it was tasty, but I was a bit disappointed in the lack of spice to the blackening seasoning and the sauce. Also, serving it on grits instead of mashed potatoes would have made it feel 100% more Cajun, even with lack of seasoning. The Jambalaya fared a bit better, although my boyfriend was also left puzzled by the lack of spice to this classic dish. In all ways it was a very good representation of New Orleans style red jambalaya, with the andouille sausage being particularly notable for flavor. The cornbread it came with was pretty good. We shared a piece of chocolate cake for dessert. A very decadent concoction of chocolate, peanut butter, and caramel. It was one of the better $12 slices of cake I've had. Overall? The service was good, if not a bit awkward with the menu spiel. The food was all very well prepared, but for a Cajun style restaurant they sure could stand to spice things up a bit. It's not cheap, but at least the entrees are a full sized meal and you don't have to order many "tiny plates" to cobble together a dinner.

I started eating at The Drake in their first week of business and had many, many, many meals there over the years but things change and so, it seems, has the popularity of The Drake. Now the good news. The new owners are a trio and one of them is also one of the owners of the inestimable Ken's Artisan Pizza in Portland that opened its' Bend location last year. (Go! Even if you have to stand in line for 45 minutes like I did.) The first news of this ownership change was that they would keep the name and current focus of The Drake. The opening for the new place is currently said to be Memorial Day weekend. This place has limited hours 1600-2000 on Saturdays and Sundays so we figured we'd get here on the front end of that schedule( today, Saturday). We were seated in a nice booth in the back that was a bit quieter than the FOH. Got water and setups right away. Within 5 minutes, Jensen (sp?) came for our drink and meal order. We got a Manhattan and an Old Fashioned (the Tumalo offering) and they were decent. My DH had the 10 oz filet medium, and I got the Chicken Cordon Bleu (not my norm but couldn't get the same meal as we are evaluating offerings in the area). Both were awesome. I got the cream spinach and BP as a side; the DH mashed and gravy and garlic bread. The service was great; the price point was very fair (we've been to around 35 restys trying to find our faves) and I would heartily recommend this one over any dinner type restaurant we've been to thus far.
