We absolutely love this place. The people are so friendly and accommodating. The food, no matter what you order is always good, and their wine list is well thought out. Once you sit down order the spinach and artichoke dip. It takes a little longer to prep than most appetizers but it's worth the wait! The other thing I like is that most of their pasta dishes can be ordered in a half order so it's not a ton of food. Next time you are in Carlsbad and want yummy Italian food, look no further! read more

We went yesterday for Mother's Day and sadly, it was awful. I've eaten here prior to the pandemic and it was pretty good, so maybe they just aren't back in their groove, but yesterday was a total waste of money and time. While I understand the delays because it's one of the busiest restaurant days, the service was seriously lacking. They appeared to be working in teams but yet, no one seemed to be followup on tables after they set down food (we actually watched one large table clear all their own appetizer plates). Although we had reservations, we had to wait over 30 minutes for table. Then once seated, we waited nearly 10-15 minutes before anyone approached our table for drinks, waited more time for drinks to arrive (one drink never actually made it to the table). Appetizers - Calamari & fried mozzarella were the best part of the meal. Perfectly cooked. Entrees were both expensive and unimpressive. I ordered a spicy shrimp pasta dish that was served in a small bowl and with the exception of the shrimp, it looked and tasted awful, drowning in a creamy tomato sauce that tasted almost like it was from Spaghettios, not at all spicy. (note: this entree was close to $40). The other dish we got was a chicken dish, again very small portion. Third dish was Chicken Parm...looked decent but was served with rigatoni, not spaghetti. As part of the meal, dessert was included, which literally was a laughable, quarter inch sized sliced of chocolate torte. I don't understand how they could serve that size, rich or not...it was so tiny, maybe enough for maybe 3 or 4 bites (some people could prob do it in 1). The worst part, aside from that $150 bill (more than that with the tip), is that both my husband and I immediately got intestinal issues when we got home, barely made it to the bathroom kind of sick. We assumed it was an issue the salad because our son is the only one who didn't get sick and he didn't eat his salad. I don't know what is going on at this restaurant because again, we have eaten there in the past and it was good, but really they should refund money for what went on yesterday. I wanted to write this review 3 weeks ago, but life happened. We were on vacation in Carlsbad for the first time, we had just gotten there and were looking for somewhere to celebrate my mom's birthday. Gregorio's checked every box for us that night! The food was AMAZING, the canolis were the best, and I am still thinking about the bread! As you can tell, we enjoyed our food very much. BUT the people are what made our experience just over the top and has me telling everyone to come see you. From the person who greeted us, to our server, to the live entertainment... they all made us feel like family! STILL (Steve and Jill) were there that evening and at first I was hesitant to sit outside, but I am so glad we did. They sang to my mom and talked with my daughter (who was going in for major surgery when we returned home). They even let my daughter sing a song with them! My wife and I have enjoyed Gregorio's for many years. Our regular order is the Pizza Napoletana and large vegetarian antipasto. The pizza is so good. Juicy plum tomatoes with garlic marinated-in, basil, and ample cheese. The crust is just right, not too thick or thin. The vegetarian antipasto adds a nice fresh component to our meal. Delicious vinaigrette-type dressing. The pizza and the salad complement each other very well. Add a glass or two of wine and it's just excellent. And it's big enough that we have enough left over for two light meals the next day. Don't forget the bread- it's also great and works well with the salad. read more

ahhh! I LOVE this place! My husband and I celebrated a decade of being together last Saturday and made plans to eat here. We arrived around 7 and wanted to sit outside. We were told that they had a party of 13? or was it 30? Anyway, there was a large party plus a few occupied tables so there was a little bit of a wait. The hostess was really cool and she constantly checked in with us. There were tables inside but we really wanted to sit outside. I (as always) forget our waitress' name but she was so on top of it especially since she waited on a huge area. We celebrated by ordering: Bruschetta: Chopped up tomato, olives, and basil on cheese bread - This was hella bomb, the bed is so doughy but in a good way Shrimp Aglio E Olio Tiger shrimp & linguini tossed with olive oil, garlic and lemon. - You could def taste the lemon. There was a lot of shrimp and not just like, 3 or 4 pieces. Chicken Fettuccini Alfredo Thick Flat noodle smothered in our "made to order" alfredo sauce. - He had like, one bite, he was so full from the appetizers and his cup of soup and the fluffy bread they give you in the beginning. When the cheese making process was "complete" these perfect mounds of mozzarella were dropped in a cold salt water bath. They all looked so good! I turned to my partner in crime Lindsey P. and asked: Kent B.- "Can we please go somewhere right now for caprese salad?" Lindsey P.- "I'm SO GLAD you just said that let's go!" Off to Gregorios!!!!!!! Usually I order the chicken or eggplant parmesan (AMAZING) but decided to give the pizza a try tonight...we live life on the freaking edge people! So, Lindsey and I immediately ordered the caprese salad and split a Gregorio Supreme. The caprese salad was delicious. A simple dish of fresh mozzarella, tomato and basil. It was just what we needed before going bonkers from watching Guy Fieri stuff his face with fresh mozzarella (bastard)! Very fast service too on fresh bread, drinks, appetizer, refills, and yummy (FRESH) garlic bread...btw I double dog dare any vampire to get near me in the next 4 hrs-BRING IT! The pizza (first time ordering) was VERY GOOD. One of the best pizza crusts I've tasted! The ingredients were all fresh and included: Italian sausage (YUM), tomatoes, finely chopped red onion, pepperoni, peppers, olives and mushrooms. This pizza hit the spot people! Staff seemed close with each other which was nice to see and it's a cute little place. Upon sitting down I got a drink which was a bit strong for me. I ordered the chicken piccata which was drowning in the sauce which turned me off from it. The chicken was good though. My girlfriend got the chicken parmigiana which I thought was pretty good but the sauce was much too sweet for her liking. The portions were absolutely huge, and we didn't enjoy food. I have some dining gift certificates and one of the locations was Gregorio's, we've been meaning to come in for a while, and we will be back. Had dinner last weekend there, it was my boyfriend and I and his 14 year old daughter. We sat on the patio as there were heaters. Seemed like our server was a little behind, she seemed to have a lot of tables all at once, but it wasn't a big deal. We got the bread everyone raves about, it was good...we ordered calamari as well. It was ok, nothing to wrote home about, just normal. I had the Mushroom Scallops dish, it was excellent. I only ate half and the other half was delicious the next day too. The man had the Shrimp with Spicy Tomato Cream Sauce, the girl had some sort of corkscrew pasta with a vodka sauce and added chicken...she saw it going to someone else's table and asked for that. Service was good, she got her tables under control and was available when we needed drinks, etc. We will return. I have one more of the gift certificates. Dang good food, great location and atmosphere, but service from the bar was awful tonight (July 1st). Some guy paying no attention, on his cell phone, and clueless that he was actually working. I've been to gregorios now a 1/2 dozen times, and had the eggplant parmesan [again] tonight. It was fantastic, and I'm likely to have it again on my next visit. Sadly, we had "the steak special," which should be their top item of the night, right? NOPE! It was not good at all. No flavor in the meat or the accompanying pasta. We were not impressed. I had the Opelousas cab for $12 a glass, and was pretty happy with that. I'll be back, but definitely won't sit at the bar with that guy. read more

dinner was good (as always) but far and away the star of the evening was our server, SARAH. when i was a kid and my dad and i went out to dinner together, he used to joke we were CLASS B bachelors. that was WYATT, my seven-year old, and i on saturday -- CLASS B bachelors on a boy's night out. was a little surprised when he picked GREGORIO's -- figured he'd go for sushi or burgers but there we were stuffing ourselves on bread dipped in olive oil and sucking down root beer and a DUSTY TUSCAN (a peperoncini infused vodka martini with gorgonzola stuffed olives) and making goo-goo eyes at the lovely and charming SARAH (old guys can be at least as goofy as young ones -- it comes with the plumbing). i had the EGGPLANT PARMESEAN with CHEESE RAVIOLI (which i shared with the boy since he originally couldn't make up his mind between the sliders and ravioli) and WYATT had the MEATBALL SLIDERS. like i said, dinner was good (as always). I'm a hard to please Italian from New York, and this place was fantastic. The Eggplant and Chicken Parmesan was a great surprise, as was the Cheese Ravioli and the Spaghetti and Meatballs. As with any Italian restaurant the main thing was the sauce which was authentic and the seasoning was great from appetizer to entrée. I have never tried this place before and was hoping to have good expectations. I placed an order online and one second later immediately called the restaurant and notified them i just made a order and wanted to make sure all of my items had no cheese on them as the young one eating it is very allergic. He gave me attitude and said it was already made and saw it on the counter when i literally had just placed order button one second ago and called right after. It was probably someone else's and didn't even bother to notify the chef. Plus the order is time stamped. In no way possible can an order already be made in one second. I was was still kind and asked if he could please go ask and he said it was taken care of. I thought everything would be fine but upon arrival not only were all the dishes SMOTHERED in cheese when they arrived but the soup top was not securely fastened and spilled all over the place. I understand delivery things happen but the negligence and just plain rude behavior from the staff is unacceptable. He doesn't care if a child is sent to the hospital from a food illness or not. Haven't been here in a number of years. Decided to bring daughter and grandson. Husband and I shared a GREGORIO'S SUPREME pizza. Wondering where the meatballs were. The biggest disappointment was the GORGONZOLA CHICKEN & BROCCOLI. Small bowl of fettuccini with sauce. The chicken "breast" consisted of a handful of small squares of chicken (maybe totaling a whole ounce) on top and a few pieces of broccoli on the side. If you look at the picture of chicken cacciatore on the menu, you see a breast. Would assume that this entre would be similar especially as it was more expensive. Not sure what to say about this place. First the good: Nice ambience outside, especially for families. Good waitress service Now, the bad The Pasta Fagioli was basically tomato sauce with pasta, carrots and beans in it. This is not soup! It was a paste. Disgusting The Bruschetta is horrible. Soggy bread with cheese melted on it and it is covered in olives (even though there are no olives mentioned on the menu). My lasagna was ok, but it was drowned in marinara. The sauce was pretty thick and heavy FYI My 4 yr old son's pizza came out 5-10 mins after the rest of our meals. Usually kids meals come out first. I took a friend here last week, after shopping at the farmer's market. We sat in the bar, ordered two lavender martinis. They were terrible. How can a bar tender send out two identical drinks to the same table and not notice one was dark purple and the other pale purple? She needs more training. We used Gregorio's catering for our daughter's engagement party at our home. Gregorio's team was amazing. Brandee was incredibly helpful. She helped suggest meal plans and amounts. She came to my home prior to the event to go over the layout of the food. We ordered Lasagne, Pesto Tortellini, Chicken Alfredo, Pasta & Meat Sauce, Appetizers and Salad. The warm dishes came in beautiful chafing dishes to keep the food warm. We hired a few servers to assist with the party. The were so helpful with serving food, moving the timeline along and helping to clear dishes during the party. Everyone loved the food. We had leftovers for days and service was amazing. read more

Well, Olive Garden gives you infinite complementary bread/soup/salad, as opposed to Gregorio's charging $5 for garlic bread. I wouldn't go here again even if pretending to be an Italian food snob was my thing. The quality of the pasta that my girlfriend and I got was pretty mediocre, and not justified for the price. It felt like something we could have made at home for a quarter of the cost. It was one of the rare occasions in which she didn't take leftovers. I met my cousin at Gregorio's on Friday night for dinner and it was a nice experience. The food was good as was the service. Melissa was our waitress/server (I'm not sure what is PC these days) and she was spot on. Thanks Melissa! I had the Rosemary Chicken Salad which was very fresh and delicious. That salad had the best broccoli I've ever had and I think you can order that same broccoli as a side, which I would highly recommend. My cousin had the shrimp pasta fettuccine which much have been good because it disappeared. A bottle of Pinot Grigio was a nice compliment to the hot summer night. I will say that inside the restaurant was very warm, probably 75 degrees, at least. So we chose to sit outside and the temperature out there was perfect. As a side note, I totally respect the humongous amount of support that Gregorio's gives the Boys and Girls Club of Carlsbad. In 2010 and 2011 they are donating 100% of their profits to the Club. Wow!
