Ok so I came here with my coworkers. My coworker said this was the best California roll out she had as it wasn't fishy and for imitation Crab like everywhere else it as the best. For myself I found that the portion size of the sashimi was very large. Everyone at the table agreed that the presentation was wonderful. Service was great. The restaurant is still the small cozy spot that I wrote about before.
Food is decent for the price. Small sitting space. Service is good. Aburi choices are great.
I've been to Green Leaf a few times but I've never had their Aburi Platter, which is what they're known for, so this time I got it to share. We also got a tako wasabi to try but I was a bit disappointed as it was served in a shot glass (the serving was quite small). However, because I've only had it one other time elsewhere, I don't know what the standard is supposed to be. There weren't many octopus pieces and it was mixed with a crunchy ingredient I wasn't able to identify (maybe it was a vegetable). The aburi platter came with 6 different kinds of aburi. There was one with shrimp, pesto and olive, which I thought was a bit strange but overall it was filling and decent. I got my tea refilled throughout the meal, which was nice and the restaurant is still small and cozy as I remembered. Now that I've tried the aburi platter, I think there are better places to get sushi, but this is a good local/nearby choice.
Aburi platter was worth every penny. Great variety and incredible flavours. The salmon and scallop ones were especially my favourite while my partner liked the mackarel and the aburi roll. Definitely want to return to try more items!
We decided to pop in because we love pressed sushi. They say us right away and it was a quaint little spot. The service was wonderful. Our server was really knowledgeable and accommodating. The food was in a lovely presentation and was reasonably priced.
I still feel like this place is overpriced. I will say that the salmon oshi has consistently slapped (been good) throughout the years. However I did not love the "basil prawn" oshi. I might be wrong but it tasted like it had Parmesan on it, and it was reminiscent of a pizza. It even had an olive on it. I feel like this place is best to visit with a few friends; that way everyone can order a different roll and share. The workers are quite nice.
Ambiance and food is good as always. However, we didn't particularly enjoy the service because while I was trying to have a catch up conversation with my friend, we were interrupted several times by the waiter asking if we wanted more tea (first time they asked we hadn't drank yet so our cups were still full). We were having a great time catching up and to our surprise and the waiter's, the waiter commented that we actually finished all the food we ordered. My friend and I were not pleased with the comment, but brushed it off. The waiter then came by again and started clearing our dishes, asking if we wanted the bill while I was still eating. They then mentioned to us that there are a lot of people on their waitlist and when we look around, half the restaurant was empty with no one waiting outside. We felt pushed out. We will likely continue ordering from Green Leaf Sushi, but would not recommend dining in if you're wanting to enjoy your time which is very unfortunate when enjoying good food.
Loved this! Devoured this with a group of 5 people. So good, even for someone who doesn't love sushi like me. I liked that the salmon was a bit cooked so that helped with the raw fish element for me haha. Would recommend for sure if you're in the area and want some quality sushi!
Went as a group of four during dinner time on Sunday. We were pretty surprised that it was not that crowded. We ordered the assorted oshi sushi and the tornado omelette. The assorted sushi is solid, but not mind blowing. The shrimp was my least favourite, the flavour just does not blend very well. Tornado omelette was pretty good although I was expecting the egg to be more fluffy and creamy, it actually feels too much like white eggs. Could be improved with cooking it less. My friend said the sauce is a bit too sweet, definitely on sweeter side but perfect for me. Service was good, always full out water.
What's a good way to wind down after an intense workout? I'm no expert but apparently in my head at the time I decided I wanted nice fancier sushi. I managed to get my way because I happened to pick a restaurant with space for a large group on a Saturday. That is the story of how I ended up at Green Leaf Sushi. Theatrics and humor aside, I was quite familiar with the restaurant. I've heard it's notable for having good quality aburi sushi. To test this theory out, my group ordered a ton of it to share. I'm kinda like Joey in that while I don't hate sharing food, I do like having my own thing to make sure I don't take too much from everywhere else. That said, I was totally satisfied with how good the food ended up being. The tempura was probably the best I ever had. Very light and delicious. I think I had one piece of every sushi and all of them were excellent. I loved the salmon aburi especially. A little bit on the pricier side for me, but I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Green Leaf. I'd happily go again to treat myself to a very nice meal.
Great food, cute unassuming little restaurant, and friendly service. The oshi sushi is a must try.
Small 4 slice salmon sashimi and a 6 piece salmon aburi was amazing but holy hell pricey at over $21 without tip. Definitely recommend for a special occasion.
Still my favorite go to for Aburi and have brought any guest that visits Vancouver to my favorite sushi in the city. I ordered the green leafer as stopped in for. lunch. I used to order this combo as take away all the time. Great value and delicious with miso soup sashimi to snapper tempura to salmon aburi. read more
We were walking around the neighborhood and were hungry for a snack and seen this sushi place, so decided to try it out. Their sushi was really good and tasty. I wasn't expecting it to be that good as we just a take out order coz we wanted to go down to the pier. We tried about 4 different rolls and all of them were great. Service was quick with plenty of seating inside the place. read more

Good sushi and value. Not a huge place, but cozy and friendly/attentive service. Their aburi sushi could benefit from a little more fish per piece but the flavours are very good. read more

Came here right before they closed for lunch and they told is that we had to finish eating by closing time so that was a little turn offish. Ive been wanting to try the sushi so we just ordered a couple of rolls to try. We loved the variety of aburi sushi and the combos were good. Sushi itself is on the expensive side but the food was good. The fish was fresh and the flavors meshed well together. Before we came i had looked at the menu online but when we arrived the waitress said certain things like the udon noodle wasnt on the menu so my son didnt have much options to eat so i ended up ordering him tamago sushi. He said it was okay. read more
Day 14 of posting daily Yelp reviews that rhyme In Vancouver, BC, there's a sushi spot that's not a lot Green Leaf is the name, and sushi's what they've got The fish on top was fresh, but didn't quite cover the rice But the taste was still good, and that's no surprise The service was quick, and the staff was hospitable They made sure our dining experience was comfortable Not a lot of people, which is not a shame Green Leaf Sushi is a place worth a claim Overall, it's a decent place to dine But the sushi needs some improvement in design Three stars is our rating, but give it a try Green Leaf Sushi, a sushi spot on the fly read more
Green Lead is known for their aburi sushis and I'm obsesssssed with aburi sushi so I had to check it out! I went around 12pm on a Saturday and there was no lineup! I got their salmon oshi, hotate (scallop) oshi and hot night roll (prawn tempura and crab with spicy tuna on top). The oshis were so soft and melted in my mouth! It was torched very nicely as well. Highly recommend the salmon and scallop if you visit :) The hot night roll was yummy too but the oshis were the star of the show. read more

This is a nice sushi spot to grab yourself some great Japanese seafood. There's enough tables in the restaurant and it gives a nice vibe. Staff are friendly as well. Prices of the sushi is great, however, it's likely due to their portions which is why I'mma dock off one star. Red dragon roll was pretty tasty and the mango roll was different and refreshing! read more

Green Leaf really doesn't look like much when you walk by since it's a small restaurant with limited tables/seating, BUT if you do find yourself in the area, you will certainly have a 5/5 STAR lunch or dinner! I rarely had oshi before going - mainly stuck with sushi and rolls - but Green Leaf truly opened my eyes to the world of oshi. Can't go wrong with starting your journey off at one of the premier restaurants that serves it. Based on the picture, you can see we ordered the following items (in rank of favorites): - 2x salmon oshi - scallop oshi - unagi oshi - mackerel oshi DEFINITELY ORDER TWO SALMON OSHI - hands down a choice we were very happy about. Believe it's their most popular too, so would recommend getting two salmons or at least two of what you think would be your favorite. I'm a big scallop and sometimes unagi fan, so go with what you believe would be best for you. I was very full after eating, but throughout the meal, everything felt so light - the kind of vibe where you can continually eat everything in one bite without many breaks. Thank you so much for an amazing lunch, Green Leaf! Hope to be back soon. read more

Tried the Aburi Combo, which is what they're known for. It comes with 38 pieces for $65. I would say it's worth it if it's shared amongst 4 people. 8 aburi tobiko roll (wild sockeye salmon, crab meat, tobiko, cucumber, oshi sauce, jalapeno) tasted like an ordinary piece of sushi 6 of each oshi sushi: SALMON (wild sockeye salmon, oshi sauce, jalapeno) - nothing too special BASIL EBI (tiger prawn, basil pesto oshi sauce, black olive, parmesan cheese) - tasted like a pasta dish lol YUKKE TUNA (soy-marinated minced tuna, house-made sweet onion, alfafa, Japanese spice) - not bad SIME-SABA (sweet vinegar marinated Mackarel, house-made katsuo miso, green onion, Japanese spice) - I personally liked this fish the most HOTATE (scallop, fish egg, oshi sauce) - scallop was buttery read more

I love the unlimited tea!! All sushi restaurants should have this. We ordered 5 rolls in total but only likes 2/5. However the 2 were really really good. So next time I'll just offer other things in the menu and hopefully have better luck! Cute little place read more

We were in the area and craving for sushi and aburi so we found Green Leaf Sushi on Yelp. It was a beautiful sunny weekday and we had to wait a few minutes to get a table but they were quick and efficient. We ordered salmon aburi, salmon sashimi and chicken breast teriyaki. The salmon was great quality -- fresh and not fishy. The chicken teriyaki was tasty as well. It was a bit higher priced than your neighborhood sushi place but quality is there. read more

Very good oshi sushi at reasonable prices. Service is good, too. Sashimi was fresh. They get busy because it's such a small restaurant so come early. Free street parking. read more
I usually come to Green Leaf sushi for their aburi sushi, but I was delightfully surprised when I ordered their snapper tempura. I'm not a huge fan of wasabi, but the unagi wasabi sauce that comes with the snapper tempura was incredible! The crunch crispy roll was great too and I'd definitely like to try their other rolls next time. read more
Currently doing takeout only! I am honestly obsessed with their signature aburi combo. It is always so satisfying and delicious, my go to meal when I'm craving really good sushi. My favourites are the salmon and scallop oshi sushi, as well as the tobiko roll, but I can honestly inhale the whole thing. Also got the snapper tempura, but that's better at the restaurant when it's fresh and hot. read more

Green Leaf offers a delicious Oshi option for a reasonable price! This is what we had on our platter. Honestly they were all delicious!! Hotate Oshi Sushi: the delicate flavours of the seared scallop. Probably my favourite one! Sime Saba Oshi Sushi: mackerel is a stronger tasting fish so it might not be for everybody. But I do love a mackerel and this oshi highlights the gosh perfectly! And it is perfectly paired with green onions on top! Salmon Oshi Sushi: this is always a classic, the OGs of oshi! If you haven't tried oshi before, then this is a must get! The crunchy jalapeño on top is also nice touch! Points for texture. Basil Ebi Oshi Sushi: you can really taste the basil pesto in this dish and is quite the interesting "fusion" - seafood pizza on a sushi if I may Yukke Tuna Oshi Sushi: I am biased because I like alfalfa. But I do think it can overpower the rest of the oshi and the tuna Aburi Tobiko Roll: this kind of tasted like a premium version of the California roll. The tobiko on top gives it texture I DO want to put a disclaimer though. I've been in person to Green Leaf Sushi multiple times, and it seems like its a hit or miss. Almost as if it depends on which chefs are working that day? Also, the restaurant is on the smaller side and it is always PACKED. So make sure you plan ahead. read more

Green leaf is one of my must-have spots when I visit Vancouver! It is a small store in Kitsilano, but I also frequent the Burnaby location for a shorter line. I've never had aburi sushi anywhere else but in Vancouver and always find myself craving them. While I also enjoyed pricier places like Miku, I think Green Leaf does aburi so well that I would always choose to come here instead. My favorites here are the salmon oshi, scallop oshi, and the prawn oshi! I love getting the platter so that we have different options to try from, but I always steer myself back to get a few extra orders of my favorites. I have also tried a couple other side dishes / ramen dishes but nothing beats their aburi sushi. They are flavorful, creamy, perfectly seared, and so delicious. I can't say enough good things and I am already dreaming of my next visit here! read more
