I'm a bbq connoisseur, this place had my taste buds exploding with flavor. I ordered takeout: small platter(ribs, pulled pork, chix wings, cornbread and slaw) potato wedges, Mac and cheese Ribs were my favorite, very meaty fall of the bone, juicy far from dry Pulled pork was great, not shredded to a pulp nice chunks in there(there house bbq was slamming) Wings were good, would have been perfect if tossed in a sauce. Cornbread, Mac, and potatoes were A1

Great wings, loved the spot! Dark aesthetic if you are into that like me. Smoked wings but so juicy! Sauce was good as well! Mac and cheese was a huge portion loved the burnt ends, liked how they wrote out the daily specials on the tables each night too, waitress/bartender was super friendly as well. Def will go back

Great service! Kitty from NY was personable and just awesome. Wings were fire. One pound of Buff-Q wings... best taste. Smoked. Hot. But. That. BBQ. If you want BBQ or just a fan of wings and a pint of your favorite Kolche, IPA, or local beer then come to Westminster Street to say hi to the friendly talented staff. Best wings ever!

Stop #7 of the @rifoodfights #LordOfTheWings challenge was also a strong contender in last year's challenge. @greatnorthernbbqco again brings an impressive entry. Their hot house sauce came recommended by Denny, a new chef in the kitchen and is his own creation. The wings are smoked but then fried up for a Smokey flavor without sacrificing the crispy. The sauce had a kick but was very different from a traditional buffalo sauce. I couldn't place the flavor but it was a nice change from the usual hot sauce. The staff was super friendly and I got into a great conversation with Adam (manager/owner?) I felt like a regular! I'll be back!

Great wings. Cold beer. Community. Cool bartenders. Killer brisket. I'm moving out of the west end and will miss this place dearly. I love Great Northern!!

Went here on a Friday night after craving some smoked BBQ. Not many people were in there. Had a calm atmosphere with typical BBQ decorations. Service was attentive. Ended up ordering the huge platter of food to share. It came with brisket, ribs, pulled pork, sausage, chicken wings, and corn bread. Also ordered a side of fries and Mac n' cheese. All the food was really delicious. My top three favorite meats were the brisket, ribs, and chicken wings. The corn bread was great, made like it is in the South. The Mac n cheese was as I expected, but would say the fries were better. The fries were perfectly crispy and seasoned. Total was around $97 with tip. Definitely get a lot of meat. Can only see myself ordering that platter again if there's a group of people. There were left overs for days.

Great northern is our favorite stop for BBQ in PVD, so we were happy for an excuse to visit as past of the RI Food Fights Lord of the Wings competition. While this is a small, busy place on the weekends, we settled in to the comfortable little bar with lots of fun decor to peruse. As we expected, the smoky wings were crispy & tasty. We had them dressed with a good, savory buffalo sauce. A side of delicious, creamy mac & cheese cooled off the fire from the spicy wings as did a great IPA. A bowl of brisket chili with cornbread was meaty, tasty & filling. We will keep returning!

Great Northern BBQ has the BBQ done very well, and the other aspects of the food done okay. The brisket I got was melt in your mouth and delicious. The cornbread was pretty dry. The Mac n cheese and the coleslaw were good, not great. I wasn't disappointed for a platter that size and price. My boyfriend got mashed potatoes as a side, and I think that was a better choice than the Mac n cheese. They brought the food out really quickly after we ordered and gave us enough napkins and wet wipes for a good BBQ experience. The restaurant has a small bar and a lot of small to medium tables. The decor is sort of fancy rustic, with an overall casual atmosphere.

No frills, the real deal BBQ joint. Friendly staff, plenty of seating outside, and delicious eats. I was visiting Rhode Island and my coworker had suggested this place. I got the Great Northern Burger and the name speaks for itself (and then some). It wasn't just great, it was absolutely delicious. And look at these portion sizes? Incredible bang for your buck here. Will be returning next time I'm in Providence!

We found this spot while visiting for the weekend. The atmosphere is nice. The music is good and is a little bit of everything. The music was a tad loud since it was pretty empty in there. I would recommend the Mac and cheese, brisket and wings. I would not recommend the collard greens, ribs or cornbread. I also didn't like the coleslaw.

Beer and food were good-however, political conversations should not be had between a bartender and their friend at the bar out loud. You dont know who your audience is. A total turn off. Maybe you should tell your employees not to do that with other customers around. Wont be back

Offerings from those restaurants can now be found on the ground floor at the more casual counter-order space). Yesterday I went for an early dinner with two other vegan friends and we had a great time sampling their beautiful, creative dishes. Here's what we got: 1. Ceviche: watermelon, radish, hearts of palm, tapioca, lemon verbena, taro, lotus root chips. Beautiful, flavorful, and a refreshing start to the meal. I actually wish there was more of a citrus kick to this dish but it was still very enjoyable. 2. Arancini: wild mushroom, cashew butter, truffle, lemon aioli. The lemon aioli + crispy arancini was delightful and this was the perfect app to share (came with 6 small arancini). 3. Tapioca pearl chicharrón with wasabi and spicy mayo. Wow this thing looked wild, like a piece of coral! Loved the crispiness esp. paired with the wasabi (with the caveat that the tapioca will stick to your teeth) 4. For drinks, I got a strawberry soda mocktail which was quite nice. 5. Steak: made with Chunk Foods, with asparagus, mashed potatoes, creamed spinach, and au jus. This was such a hearty dish and the vegan steak was wild!! Super umami with a shreddy texture, I think meat lovers would really enjoy this dish. 6. Ravioli: corn, chanterelle mushrooms, macadamia ricotta, cashew butter, asparagus. I thought this would be my favorite dish of the night since I am a huge pasta lover, but while it was yummy, it wasn't a total hit for me (the pasta was on the overcooked side and the dish would have benefited from more textural contrast). Our server was friendly and attentive and everything came out quickly. The corner booths by the window overlooking the river are the best spots, especially as the rest of the restaurant is quite dark (in an aesthetic, chic kind of way). Highly recommend for a great vegan dining experience in Providence!

The first time I came, it was a rainy weekday and this time it was a sunny weekend, so I was expecting an even larger crowd; and my prediction was correct. The line was just out the door but because of their awesome staff, the line was moving very quickly. While we waited in line, we could watch them making pastries through the glass, a couple feet in front of us. I admired that level of transparency. When we were third in line, the kindest lady asked us whether we'd be eating in or taking out and she took down our name to help us find a table when it came time. She did the same for the rest of the people in line. She also gave us some recommendations, including the cinnamon bun - apparently they're so good kids cry when they sell out. I didn't intend to order anything with my drink, but I couldn't get the cinnamon bun out of my head so I ordered it along with my iced spiced chai latte. The hen (I think it's their logo) on the aprons of the employees are super cute. We did secure a table. The tables are close together to maximize the number of people who can sit down but I didn't mind. I love their art all around, mostly of birds which I am obsessed with. I love that they have a lot of natural lighting coming through their tall windows. I also like the navy blue and white theme they have going on. The chai latte was perfect. It was the right color (a dark tan), meaning the ratio of tea and milk was good and I could taste a lot of the spices. The cinnamon bun blew my expectations away. The second my teeth made. contact with the icing, it was a magical feeling. I couldn't quite put my finger on what it tasted like, but the closest I got was dulce de leche. It is truly unlike any other cinnamon bun I have ever had. The dough is soft and there is a good amount of cinnamon. It's also $4 which is not bad. I had a bite of their canelé, which apparently requires a lot of work to make. It was very moist, with a great caramelized finish. I am super excited to try their new weekend dinner menu, but also more of their all day menu items.

It was beautifully served and tasted even better than it looked. Would definitely order this again. We split the Halloumi fries as an appetizer. The fries were very similar to mozzarella sticks, except with Halloumi, and they were incredible, especially with the hot honey. For entrees, we got the Bucatini and the Chicken & Waffles, and they were both delicious. In fact, I think the chicken and waffles may have been the best I've ever had. I especially loved the thin and crispy chicken cutlet, and the chipotle honey butter was so good! Unfortunately, we were too full for dessert, but the dessert options looked amazing as well. Service was great throughout our entire visit. Our water glasses were refilled promptly and were checked on just the right number of times. Portion sizes were very good, and pricing is spot on. Better yet, just go to these places real restaurants with free parking and actual servers. The good: This seems like a nice spot for large diverse groups since there's many options in a small area, plenty of seating for larger parties and giant TVs on the walls. Most of the food is decent and they've curated an eclectic mix of cuisines. The bad: This food hall is designed to extract the most money from you in the shortest amount of time. In total, we paid $105 (including parking) for 2 orders of bao buns, a rice crispie treat, a kids cheeseburger and fries, 1 order of samosas and 2 drinks. We basically had apps and a drink for over $100. $22 for a cosmo and a coke. $12 for an IPA. You must have to ask for a receipt because you don't get one at any of the pads they ring you out on. Normally I don't care but once my group got back together and I realized what we were being charged, I realized I should have been asking for receipts. They have staff that come around and bus the tables. We had to tell them "no we're not done" 3 times in a 20 min span and they still insisted on taking our trays with our napkins etc while we were finishing our drinks and fries; thereby leaving just the basket they were in. It was really odd. It felt like fighting the seagulls on Scarborough beach. While I appreciate the effort, I don't want to ever feel rushed when dining and when I do, especially at a food hall, I most likely will not return. Maybe they knew what the parking costs and were trying to help us save money? They should just wait til you get up or at least look like you're done before coming over. The ugly: $17.12 to park for 1.5 hours. They must charge by the second. I only paid $22 for 10 hours at an event at Fenway last weekend. I later discovered that if you want the validated rate you have to specifically ask for a QR code when you order food. Really????? While it's my own fault for being in a hurry and not looking this up beforehand, hiding parking validation from customers is wild! I thought it was weird when I went to the giant kiosk that says "did you validate" it still charged me full price but just figured that maybe they charge more during peak times. IMHO, when you order they should ask you if you've validated your parking yet or offer you a code. I might have given 3 stars, but once I found out that I overpaid for parking due to this trickery, I had to deduct one star.
