I can't believe we had never been to Carmine's before. Honestly, I didn't even realize it was there until a couple of weeks ago when we happened to drive by. I remembered the building from when it was Cal's and had no idea Carmine's had moved into the space. I'm glad we finally decided to stop in because this place was an absolute home run. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The dining room is on the smaller side and pretty simple, but that's part of its charm. It's comfortable, welcoming, and puts the focus exactly where it belongs, on the food.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]We arrived around 5:00 p.m. and there was only one other table occupied, but by the time we finished dinner the restaurant had filled up.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] After eating there, it's easy to understand why. My wife and I are admittedly pizza snobs. At our home in Phoenix we even have an outdoor wood-fired pizza oven, so we're probably a little more critical than the average customer. Naturally, when we saw pizza on the menu we had to order one. We went with the Carmine Pizza, and it completely exceeded our expectations. The crust had great texture, the toppings were balanced, and everything worked together without trying too hard. I'd go as far as saying it's one of the best pizzas I've had in North Providence. I also ordered the Italian Wedding Soup, something I hadn't had in years, and it instantly reminded me why I used to love it. It was flavorful, comforting, and exactly what I was hoping for. For my entrée I ordered the veal parmigiana. I always think it's a good benchmark for an Italian-American restaurant because it sounds simple, but you'd be surprised how many places manage to overcook the veal or drown everything in mediocre sauce. Carmine's got it exactly right. The veal was tender, the breading stayed crisp under the sauce, and the gravy had that rich, homemade flavor that reminded me of family dinners growing up. The pasta was cooked perfectly al dente, just the way it should be. Unfortunately, we were too full for dessert. The portions here are generous, and considering the quality of the food, I thought the prices were extremely reasonable. One of the nicest surprises of the evening was finding out our server was also the owner. He spent some time telling us about the restaurant, why he moved into this location, and checked on us throughout the meal without ever hovering. You could tell he genuinely cared that everyone was enjoying themselves, and that kind of hospitality is becoming harder to find. If you're visiting for the first time, just know there's no dedicated parking lot, so you'll need to park on the street. It wasn't an issue at all, and certainly not something that would keep us from coming back. In fact, there's no question we'll be back. It's not a matter of if, but when. They're close enough to our home in Lincoln that I can already see takeout becoming a regular thing after a long week when neither of us feels like cooking. This was one of those meals that exceeded every expectation. Great food, generous portions, fair prices, and an owner who clearly takes pride in what he's serving. No seafood on a Friday when their FB page stated come in for fish and chips and lobster rolls! Owner sat right in the restaurant with phone on speaker and yelling to his distributor because he apparently didn't get his delivery of fish. So unprofessional. Server absolutely reeked of cigarette smoke. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Owner's dog running around in restaurant and into the kitchen, while not jumping on patrons.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] And the wings? If they were a picture, they'd be AI. Really big, crusty, and weird. A big nope. We won't be back! read more

Tried Carmines for breakfast as soon as we saw it was open ! [[HIGHLIGHT]]We immediately complimented the updated decor/style.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The owner and staff were very friendly. Our breakfast came out quickly (not rushed but perfect timing) everything was delicious ! UPDATE - we also went back to try lunch a few days later with our daughter and it was, again, DELICIOUS! Portions were big (we shared a few apps and had the hot weiners combo) Each visit we dug right into it all I didn't even have a chance to snap a photo!! Grabbed some fish and chips for my folks and they loved it! Affordable for seniors on a budget, and a perfect portion. The fish was fresh and crispy and you can tell the fries are hand cut! I tried Carmine's over the weekend (lunchtime on Saturday) for the first and last time. Under ordinary circumstances, I would have given it a decent review. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The restaurant is small with only on-street parking and allows dogs, but the food was good and the staff was friendly.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] That is where it ends. My friend and I both asked for lemon with our drinks but were told they were out of lemons. Ok. I was asked if I wanted soup or salad to go with my entrée, then was told that soup or salad was not available for lunch entrées. Ok. At the end of our meal, we were given Styrofoam to-go containers which were not appropriate for the dishes we had, as they contained a lot of liquid, so I asked if they could wrap it in plastic wrap so it wouldn't end up all over my car. I was told they had no plastic wrap. Ok. I then asked for a quart size soup container and after being told that she would ask...I was given the container. Perfect. We got the check; I handed her my credit card and when she returned, I noticed the bill was a few dollars more than it was when I gave it back to her. When I asked about it, she advised that there was a fee for using a credit card, to which I said...I would have paid cash if I had known that. She apologized and walked away. (I've since been told that "the credit card info is on the door".) My friend also ordered a quart of soup to go which was literally ice cold. Small inconveniences but nothing major. I hadn't realized it at the restaurant, but when I got home and went to put my leftovers away, I noticed that there were no cannellini beans in my "sausage, rabi and cannellini bean pasta". With all of that, and since I was Facebook friends with the owner Dave, I decided, rather than putting out any kind of negative review, I would send him a private message. After COMPLIMENTING him on the food and his staff, I let him know about the minor inconveniences that took away from our first visit to his establishment. The response that I got was what I consider to be an excuse laden apology that one might expect from a teenager, and he didn't even acknowledge that my entrée was missing one of the main/signature ingredients. Not what I would have expected from the owner of a business that values his customers. When I told him that, we then had a back and forth exchange where he said he didn't know what I meant, I explained my idea of the type of response one might generally expect from a business owner, and it ended with him telling me that I am confrontational and he can tell what kind of person I am. Well, here is the kind of person that I am... Rather than publicly putting out negative comments, I chose instead to contact him directly and privately. My initial message could not have been more respectful, including complimenting his staff and food, however it appears he lacks the ability to process even the slightest bit of warranted criticism or to take accountability for his poor management skills. So now, being the kind of person that I am, I am choosing to put it out there publicly. He made no attempt or offer of any kind of resolution and clearly doesn't seem to feel he needs to concern himself with a new customer's satisfaction, so as I advised him, he now has one less customer to worry about. It's too bad too, because there were other things I wanted to try in the future. Good thing there are so many other great restaurants in the area. read more

I highly recommend the pancake with banana and strawberry It took a really long time to get our food (~30 minutes for eggs and a pancake) and wasn't super busy. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The ambiance is also kind of meh - not sure what the design vision is.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The homefries had great seasoning. We were looking forward to trying this local place, but a little disappointed. My husband had the hash omelette and said it was pretty good, but definitely not the best omelette around as advertised! Some of the potatoes were undercooked and we did not enjoy the flavor. They advertised pumpkin pancakes on the sign, but then didn't have them so that was a little disappointing. The fish and chips were delicious! They use a thinner piece of fish but plenty of pieces. Not greasy. And the seasoning is very good.

It was obvious the owner was trying and food was good enough but younger waitress was awful. Messed up order , sat with empty coffee cup for entire time,zero friendliness. ultimately left a bigger tip than she deserved only because it took her four tries to figure out my bill on her phone calculator.
