I came to YAS Chicken on a Wednesday evening and it wasn't crowded when we first arrived. Once you walk in, you order at the counter and then grab a seat. There are countertop seats and tables. Once your order is ready, they will call your name. We ordered the YAS supreme, parmesan crispy tots, cheesy chick, and a fountain drink. Our total was $26.81 not including tip. It took a little while for our order to be ready. I think the staff were still figuring out their workflows. The YAS supreme is their signature fried chicken with spicy garlic glaze, coleslaw, pickle & drizzled with YAS sauce. It was really tasty and I really enjoyed it. The crispy tots were crispy and not soggy. Everything was very filling. After a while, a big group that looked like they were celebrating a birthday came and took over a big table. I could envision the restaurant being very crowded with big groups. I think the food was a little overpriced, but still worth a try. read more

Stopped in around 2 pm on a Saturday afternoon. After reading all the reviews I thought for sure there would be a wait. Fortunately there were only a couple people inside the establishment. Leslie the cheerful cashier took our orders and we had them in minutes. The gyozos were delicious as were the chicken and waffles and the Yas Supreme. Meals are served with delicious fries and a fountain drink. $15.00. Dining in, they call your name out. Food is served is brown box, sealed with $1.00 sauces of your choice. Walking in.. the restaurant was very clean and we were greeted with a friendly and hospitable hello. Since it was our first time here, we wanted to try a bite of everything! For starters.. The Seafood Rangoons were a nice balance of sweet and savory with a fresh flaky-crispy crust! The Korean CornDogs were an interesting blend of flavors with a surprise mozzarella stick for the first couple bites.. not sure I'd have again but glad I tried it! For the main event, we shared everything. The #2 - Yasville Hot was savory/spicy and the chicken breast was thick and moist. The #8 - The Duo waffle was my favorite.. with bites of bacon, savory battered chicken the crisp waffle to dunk in the side of syrup. My exact quote: "When I have chicken and waffles this is what I expect it to taste like!". The Truffle Mac and Cheese was tasty but reminded me more of pasta and truffle cream sauce. Great fried chicken in Providence. It is situated right on top of another place that also serves fried chicken, make sure you're walking UP the stairs and not down. You won't be disappointed. Mac was like it came right out of Louisiana. Thick, hearty, and full of flavor. Korean corn dog was a fun treat. We had heard good things about YAS Chicken then Sweet Deals had it on sale - hubby bought $25 for $50. We ordered takeout & everything was delicious. I selected the YAS O.G. - the original fried chicken sandwich, lettuce, pickles & homemade mayo. It was a good-sized piece of chicken, perfectly fried & juicy. I loved the slight sweetness of the mayo & the bun held everything together. Simple yet well executed. Hubby went with The Suffering - fried chicken, lettuce, pickles & extremely spicy homemade sauce. He also thought the chicken was great but he didn't think it was very spicy so he munched a fresh jalapeño from the fridge with his sandwich. We got "The Duo" to share - waffle buns, savory fried chicken, bacon, sweet mayo & syrup with an extra container of hot sauce. This review is solely based on the quality of the food. Since this place just opened up, it's expected to have a long wait line and unfinished interior as mentioned in many reviews. I will not be holding these factors against them. The breading of the chicken is pretty well seasoned and a lot spicier than I thought it would be. I enjoy spicy so it was good for me but if you're sensitive to heat, be prepared with some water. I ordered the 3 piece chicken tenders, and I think it's a good portion of chicken for one person. The chicken is juicy on the inside and white meat. I did not like that the breading with starting to come off on some spots and a bit soggy. I also tried the chicken sandwich with the Mac and cheese. It's a good combination but the mac and cheese is a bit bland and didn't have enough to balance the flavor of the chicken. I would recommend more Mac and cheese. The fries are good, not excellent. The yas sauce is great. I'm not sure of all the ingredients but it tasted like a seasoned mayo and ketchup. I would come again to try a few of the sandwiches they have but once the hype dies down. I was a bit disappointed they didn't have wings at this location because I think the seasoning of the chicken has potential to taste really good on wings. read more

There are many chicken sandwich options out there all of a sudden, and Yas makes one that's as good if not better than most. A good sized hunk of skinless breast with a nice crispy coating on a well-chosen potato bun. Quite good. We tried the corn dog appetizer and while the name is deceptive (it's really a big mozzarella stick with a little Vienna sausage tucked in there somewhere), they were tasty and well prepared/presented (but how much better would it be with a real hot dog in there?). The fries are the heavily coated type (not my personal preference), but I can see where many others would like them. Up till this point it's a 5-star kind of place. But then there are the signs everywhere that this owner is a good chef, but a lousy restaurateur. So many policies seem weird and off-putting. They offer fries and tots. Both are the same price, but you can't have tots with your combo. Why? The corn dogs are huge and sold as appetizers but you can't just buy one piece, even though you can see that they have a pile of them just waiting there. Who wants that big an appetizer- especially at $9/pair? The sandwiches come out within minutes but if you choose the one with cheese you're warned it requires a 20 minute wait - always! Why is it on the menu if you can't serve it with the rest of the order? The seating is cold, stark and uncomfortable. You have to walk behind the counter to refill your drink (and the cups are way too small so you'll need to) which feels awkward. The menu offers way too many overpriced appetizers and not enough sandwich options. I'm betting that 75%+ of their sales are for the basic sandwich. The others are all a bit too weird and insanely high calorie. With a basic sandwich this good, this owner needs to get over his "soup nazi" mentality and hire a good menu developer and good restaurant design firm. I'll be surprised to see this business succeed long term if he doesn't seriously address these fixable shortcomings. read more

Came in here for the first time recently, and everyone that worked there was so nice. We got the waffle chicken sandwiches. The waffle was very good but everything just tasted so fried. Like more so than other chicken sandwiches. The fries were very oily because they were so fried, and overall we limited how much we ate because we didn't want a stomach ache after. It all felt very greasy. The waffle was delicious though, and with syrup was phenomenal. Overall, I would only recommend if you're looking for some hard core comfort food since it is so fried tasting. We tried to come in when it first opened which was just a poor choice - when we finally got to the door they said a 1 hour wait to get to the front of the line and then longer for food. When we came back, my boyfriend and I ordered a Korean corn dog, and we each got one of the chicken sandwiches. The sandwiches were absolutely incredible. The Koreal corn dog is definitely an acquired taste we should've researched a little more before ordering. We didn't like it. Another time we came in just for some snack food. The gyoza was absolutely amazing - we will be getting these again. So so so good, I was obsessed with the sauce too. The little donut type desert was stellar. We were so full we took the rest to go! I was very excited to try this place. The options - specifically chicken and waffles looks delicious. However I wanted to order the stuffed chicken sandwich and the guy persuaded me not to order it because it would take awhile. What the hell- if this is fast food why is it on the menu? It's nice that the curiosity has died down so now there is not a super chaotic wait. I liked how each sandwich came as a combo option- fries and a soda. The inside is a bit plain and offers a small area to sit. But I guess this is a college area so you shouldn't expect more. Now to the food- which is why I am here. The corn dogs are good - cheesy, crispy with a sweet sauce over the top. However the hot dog is a bit missing inside. The waffle was tasty with a large portion of chicken. The special sandwich was good but the bun got too soggy to handle. The best things were def the park fries and the Mac and Cheese. But all the food has a bit of spice. My friend Melody is a huge fan of the restaurant and always gets us an order of the chicken strip meal and the OG meal whenever she swings by. The fries are very good, crispy and crunchy. Even the times where we have had to reheat, they hold up well. Love the OG. The combination of crunch, savoriness of the chicken coupled with the sweet and sour of the pickle is pretty simple, yet divine. The tenders remind me of the tenders from Raising Cane's (if you are from the South you'll know what I mean). Great crunch on the exterior, juicy tenderness from the chicken on the inside. The tenders are legit awesome and I can't speak highly enough of them. I'm sure we'll eventually venture over to College Hill to check it out in person but for now love the food and my friend's willingness to deliver! read more

New fast-food style, spicy chicken spot on Thayer! I'm an avid fan of spicy chicken sandwiches, so I got the Suffering & the Yas supreme sandwich. Both are delicious sandwiches, though I favored the latter. The Suffering's sauce has a hint of sweetness but a spicy aftertaste. The supreme sandwich has more balanced flavors & still has some spice with the garlic glaze. The chicken is moist inside & there's a good crunch outside. Prices are 7-8$ for sandwiches. The ordering and pickup scene inside is a bit chaotic, and haphazard. It was relatively less packed on a weekday, but I'm assuming it's much crazier on the weekends. You don't know where the line ends, begins or even where the middle is. That's expected since it just opened and the hype is very much real. I don't know how but I ordered way after about twenty people who've been waiting for over twenty minutes and I got mine in like 5 minutes. I appreciate the quick service but I felt angry for the other customers. They need to get their act together and fast if they want to continue to thrive on Thayer street. The ambiance of the place is incomplete. They are not done painting and setting up the place. I've been waiting for this place to open since I saw its sign up on Thayer Street, so I was excited to try it out-- especially since there are not a lot of affordable fast-food-style restaurants here! I went on their second opening day near opening time, and it was still super crowded. I waited around 25 minutes for my food to be ready because they were PACKED at 12PM, which is expected since it was their second opening day. And looking at the menu, I ordered the Yas OG chicken sandwich, seafood rangoons, korean corndogs, and Yas munchkins since I wanted to try a variety. I LOVED the chicken sandwich; the chicken was juicy, and the sauce was creamy and slightly sweet. I also liked how the korean corndogs had so much cheese in them to provide a long stretch! The seafood rangoons, however, were kinda off-putting. My first rangoon was alright, but my second one was really salty; their filling mixture didn't seem to be evenly mixed and the fried wrapping had a dull color. Hoping that this was just a mistake because they were busy, but for four seafood rangoons priced at $6.99, half of mine were bad :(. As for the munchkins, I wasn't a big fan of them. They were soft and pillowy, but lacked flavor There wasn't much powdered sugar sprinkled on top, and I expected the munchkin itself to have a hint of sweetness the taste mainly comes from the condensed milk sauce. Note: I don't think they're finished with the interior yet since their paintings are unfinished and there isn't much seating besides three or four tables. I was immediately interested in YAS because I love spicy chicken sandwiches. I tried the YAS surpreme and was impressed that 1) there is a clear strong spicy flavor, and 2) it does not overwhelm the chicken. The crunch of the vegetables and lettuce topping provided an excellent texture along with the toasted bun. I also got the fries which are very crisp, heavily fried, with the YAS sauce. Got over to YAS Chicken on a Saturday afternoon. Overall an average experience and left we with a 50/50 chance of returning. There weren't many people in there when we arrived and no one was in line ahead of us. Our order was taken promptly and then there was a rush of people that came in behind us. Seemed like most of the people that ordered after, got their food before we did but that could have been due to what we ordered so I can't really see taking points off for that but did want to mention. Now for the important part, the food! My friend and I both got "the duo" which is a piece of friend chicken between two waffles with mayo on it and maple syrup on the side. I despise mayo so I got mine without (my friend said it was weird on the sandwich and wished he had gotten his sans mayo). We each did the meal which comes with a drink and fries and added truffle tots with the total coming to $36 and change. Not cheap but not expensive either; you got a lot of food. The fries and tots were both really good! They were crispy and not saturated in oil. I wasn't the biggest fan of the sandwich. The chicken was good; crispy and juicy friend chicken with good flavor. The waffles were where my disappoint lies. It seemed as though they were friend which I've never experience before. They were crispy which is nice but they were saturated, and I mean SATURATED, in grease. The bottom waffle was very soggy. I think if anything they should be served with some paper under them to absorbed some of that grease. I will prob go again but try a regular chicken sandwich or the nuggets/tenders (whatever they are called here, I can't remember). Lastly, the ambiance wasn't anything great but they were working on it. While we were in there a person was hand painting the murals that they had on the walls which was really cool. The chicken (tenders) was just fine, the Mac and cheese was gummy/over cooked and under seasoned. I. WILL say I was a huge fan of the korean corn dog. I just wasn't a fan of the pointy skewer they used which made it difficult to eat. The food was great, worth the wait (about 20 minutes). We ordered the tender meal and the YAS sandwich both were really flavorful and juicy and the sauce was amazing. The staff were friendly despite the amount of people in the store. I'm taking a star off for the fact the lobby area was filthy and the line system was unorganized we were standing in what seemed like the correct area to order but we were on the opposite side. I think they would do better having an extra person upfront to do online orders only and to possibly move the stanchion to somewhere that makes more sense. The space is very small (which is of course no fault to them) but during our wait, the space had 50+ people at a time waiting inside. While the food was okay, I will not be returning, as the service was just not good. I recognize they've only been open at this location for a week, but the lack of organization does not show that they were ready to open in the first place.
