It's always hard to say whether or not an auto-repair place is "good" or not. For my experience at this Grease Monkey it came down to trust. We went in for a standard oil change and left with $180 of repair. The additional repairs that we agreed to were diagnosed by the staff as necessary due to our car's car fax report, that they were smart enough to walk us through. Considering the fact that we have over 110k miles on our car and don't regularly take it in for checkups, that was not a bad deal. The only thing that I did not expect was that they, unprovoked and on two occasions during my wait, assured me that the service I had agreed to was necessary and provided to me at a price cheaper than jiffy lube. At the time, this reassurance only made me trust them less as they must have felt the need to address my disgruntled face, a result of the extra $130 that I didn't know I would be spending that day. Ultimately, I decided to trust the staff because there were no obvious red flags, they answered all of my questions thoroughly and patiently, and their apparent reasons for recommending the extra repairs were based on an objective report of our car's repair history. read more

Don't get me wrong, the guys are nice (and not bad looking, let me tell ya), but the quality of workmanship leaves a lot to be desired. Not only did they rip me off for a cabin air filter ($50? Really?), but they installed new wiper blades improperly. So improperly that while on a road trip to California the weekend after having them installed, they broke on the highway going through a rainy/snowy pass. Just as I decided it was too dangerous to drive with the blades failing, I hit a deer while trying to pull off. When I bought new ones and had them installed later that morning, the gentleman at the auto parts store showed me that they not only installed them without the adapter, but they used the wrong size blades as well. I'll deal with the thousands of dollars of damage to my car, but that dead deer's blood is on your hands, Grease Monkey. Live with it. read more

I took my 2012 Toyota Corolla to get its oil changed here the last two times it needed it. Last time, they suggested I replace my cabin air filter and my engine air filter but I was tight on money so I said I would do it next time. 8,000 miles later, I decided to be handy and change the air filters and oil myself. First, the housing to my cabin air filter wasn't even clipped back into place. When I removed the cabin air filter, it was completely smashed in the middle (and probably hadn't been filtering anything since my last service). Considering it did not look like this when they showed it to me, it must have been damaged when being put back in. Next I went to change my oil. They overtightened the oil filter cap so much that I wasn't able to get it off, even after trying several different methods. The filter specifically states to NOT overtighten the cap and it should be able to be removed easily using a socket wrench and the appropriate oil filter wrench. I will not be returning to grease monkey to get my car serviced in the future. read more

Just a follow up. My wife took our Camry in few years back. They forgot to replace the OIL. We had to pay a few thousand dollars to get the transmission fixed and a few other things. These guys are pretty cool. Went there with a coupon once and they pleasantly told me that the next day was customer appreciation day and my oil change will be half off! The next day I went, got all the fixin's, a soda and a free hat! It was lovely. 3,000 miles later I went back again and they hooked me up with a new air filter, ten dollars off. My car came back to me, clean, working lovely and they are always so polite and speedy. No reason not to go. read more

I'm not sure why their are bad reviews on here. My experience went really smooth. As soon as I arrived Josh the manager came out to greet me and get the details for my car. I asked for an oil change and a tune up since my car recently hit 100,000 miles. I was expecting a long wait since this isn't always quick at the Jeep dealership where I used to take my car. It was actually a very fast process. They addressed my concerns about the gunk gathering on my battery and cleaned it for me. A bonus was that they vacuumed out my car and cleaned my windows. I would say that the service here is just what I'd prefer from my oil change place: reasonable pricing, nice friendly technicians, and a willingness to address my concerns. This might be my new go-to place considering its really hard to find anyone who you can trust to work on your car these days. read more

I will give this place 1 extra star because their staff was extremely friendly. However, I will never return to this location or any Grease Monkey for that matter. I went in for a simple oil change last week, I left feeling like it was quick and painless. However, after driving to Bellevue for work, my car began to smell. Unaware of any problems during my oil change, I ignored it. Later that day, after parking my car for only 3 hours, I pulled away and my car had lost nearly a cup of oil. When I called back, the service man stated "Oh, I remember your car. Bring it back and we will take a look at it." Not saying that it was an emergency, and being that it was out of my way to bring my car back immediately, I left it in my parking garage over night. The next day, my ENTIRE parking stall was filled with oil. I took it back, only to find out that "coincidentally" the oil pan was rusted through and the man "so kindly" took me next door to introduce me to the people at Elliot Tire and Service Center (most likely to get a nice commission check). I now have to pay for an entirely new oil change. Which I understand, I get it. However, when I asked the people helping me with my car if they could immediately tell if there was a problem with my oil pan, the service person told me "oh yes, almost immediately after looking under your hood." So, I called Grease Monkey immediately afterwards. The service person told me "I'm sorry Ma'am, there was no way for us to tell until you drove away that your car would leak." Seems strange to me considering with a second and third opinion, there was no way they would have let me drive my car away like that let alone charge me for an oil change before replacing my pan. Not really sure who they hire at this location, but I am warning you now. They might be a friendly bunch, but they have no clue what they are doing. I was greeted by no line of cars and two very friendly grease monkey employees who helped me guide my car into the spot. Upon getting out of the car I was given the price of how much the oil change would cost, and told how long it would take. It all sounded great to me so I went into the waiting room where there was great beverage options. I started doing some work on my computer and looked up about five minutes after I sat down. There were five employees vacuuming my car, washing the windows, and checking my tire pressure which put a huge smile on my face. The manager came in and told me everything they had done, told me the condition of my engine, and asked me if I wanted to change out my transmission fluid because it looked a little old. He told me how much it would be, I said go for it, and five minutes later he walked back in, told me that the car was done, the woman in the waiting area rang me up, told me I could get a free oil top off within the next 2 months, I paid, got my keys, and drove out of the garage twenty minutes later with a car with clean windows, pumped up tires, a vacuumed interior, and a very happy driver. Please, don't waste your time at other places and go here. read more

Only giving two stars because I did receive an oil change, but all in all this place sucked. The customer service girl was pretty snarky about me only doing the basic oil change, not knowing if I had been to their specific location before and parking in a spot vs. taking it around the entrance, but whatever. I too suffer from RBF. As for my oil change itself, I can tell when I'm close to needed a new oil change because my car runs kind of "rough", is the best way I can describe it. After getting an oil change, I can feel my car running smoother. After this oil change, however, my car still feels rough. Don't know what to say about that, as I always get the cheapest oil change & religiously every 3k miles. I also came in with a coupon that said my oil change would be $29. Get to the counter and now it's $37?? I ask why and she says there's a $3 oil recycling fee.. Ok... that's still not a $8 jump even WITH tax. Get in my car and check my receipt and the recycling fee is listed at $2. So there's still a discrepancy as to WTF I paid for?? I typically go to Jiffy Lube and love that when you're done they have a list of things you may want to get done (change a filter, replace a belt, services that line up with your mileage, etc.). Here they sent me home with a note about brake pads but no explanation as to what it was they think I needed, nor any comments on the fact that I'm close to 100k miles and that's when they start suggesting certain services. Also pretty pissed that even though they say they'll vacuum your interior, there were OBVIOUS places they skipped over (between my two front seats) and overall did a shitty job vacuuming the rest. I have a 2015 Ford Edge. The guys are really nice here, they're quick. They forgot to call me when they were done, so we just showed up an hour after dropping off and the car was ready. I went with the top choice, synthetic oil it was 89.99 plus 8/quart needed past that and tax, so it was like $109. Cheaper than Jiffy Lube down the street that I went to a while back, those guys also gave me a lot of "recommendations" for unnecessary work. Also have a ding/scratched door panel and one of the guys gave me some advice for doing it myself instead of suggesting I pay them to do it, which I appreciated. I don't think I will ever go back here. I actually read all of the reviews on Yelp and went anyway...... thinking things must have improved and there were some positive reviews here too. The employee who greeted me was very polite and professional. However, I was called in to be told all of the items they wanted to sell to me by.....the manager? or supervisor on duty? He was arguing with me regarding what has and hasn't been done on my car. My Dad and I usually do most of the work on my car. He is a seasoned mechanic and I am a fairly decent helper. So I am not some chick who doesn't know her way around an engine. I asked them to also replace a headlight for me, which they did. I paid him after he ran through the list of services they had preformed. As I was driving away I realized...........didn't they say they washed the windows? When I got home I reread the receipt and sure enough it stated "windows washed". It was just one more thing to aggravate an already irritating experience. I live about 3 miles from this location, but I will not be returning. I will happily do my service myself or take it somewhere else. read more

Lawrence rocks!!! I went to Grease Monkey this weekend for a scheduled oil change on my 1992 Volvo station wagon. Lawrence, one of the mechanics on duty, did the above-ground work for my car. He changed the oil, checked all of the fluids and all of the normal stuff that Grease Monkey does, but he also came out and told me that my radiator reservoir was filtering some really grimy stuff and cleaned it out at no charge! He also upgraded my oil filter and gave me info on my new tranny that the installation shop couldn't give me! If you visit the Grease Monkey shop in Ballard, ask for Lawrence...he's made me a customer for life!! read more

I sent my boyfriend here for an oil change because it had good reviews and offered a coupon. The oil change was $70 before tax, disposal fee and coupon. We didn't opt for synthetic. They tacked on a charge for coolant but didn't ask if we wanted it. When I saw this on the receipt and asked about it, the employee said he'd refund the coolant if I drove back and let him take it out. Otherwise, they were quick and friendly. read more

I just took in a new truck with 5000 miles on it and they showed me tar like oil telling me it was out of my truck and recommended a "crank case flush" what a joke. I brought my old Honda Civic in this morning right when they opened and got in immediately. My friend has been bringing her Honda in here for years and highly recommended them. After having a really nasty experience at Jiffy Lube, I decided to give these guys a try and I absolutely made the right choice. Staff was really friendly, did NOT try to upsell me on ANYTHING, unlike Jiffy. And I was in and out in 20min. They honored my Yelp Check-in coupon easily. They only suggested new wiper blades and didn't try to sell me on them when I said I was ok for now. Outstanding auto service, customer service!! I'm really happy I have found these guys! I Love these guys!! I have had my last for oil changes done here at the 15th Ave. location My car is older than dirt so I keep up on the oil changes religiously and I am always in and out in less than a half hour they do an amazing job the inside waiting room is clean with a Keurig and cold waters. Super clean. I have been to Jiffy lube a few times prior and had a horrible experience the last several times I recommend grease monkey hands down plus it's less expensive with much better service. DO NOT GO HERE! I had my car serviced here on 04/10/21. 6 days later my check engine light came on. So I check my oil dipstick SEVERAL times. NO OIL wiped off on the stick. NONE! HOW THE HELL DO THEY GET THIS MAIN SERVICE WRONG?! I just hope my car isn't messed up now. I should have left when I read the other terrible reviews while getting my oil change. They will take advantage of you here. My husband took our van for an oil change. He asked for conventional. He repeated that he wanted what was cheapest. Then he looked at one side of the coupon and it was for synthetic, while there was a coupon for conventional on the back. Obviously they know this. The guy said, 'yeah, that's for synthetic'. They did not quote a price before the service. So we got a synthetic and $109 later... They do not put the customer first. read more

I stopped by Grease Monkey a couple days ago for an oil change. I was a little trepidatious because years and years ago when I went to that location in Ballard the folks tried to upsell me on every thing and I felt like I was being pressured into spending more money. I had another reason to be worried: a year ago when I got my oil changed at Jiffy Lube, the dude totally broke the skid plate for my newish car. I didn't realize until I was driving down the freeway to my son's b-day party and my car started making the most horrendous noises and we had to pull over. I knew I never wanted to go back to Jiffy Lube again. I vowed to get all future oil changes at the dealer. But...they're 30 minutes away and I just didn't have the time to make it over there this time. Grease Monkey was great though! I will certainly go there again. The people were so super friendly and there was no pressure to buy more or replace stuff. The work was done quickly (there was one person ahead of me.) They even did a nice job with the vacuuming and touch ups. I just had a really good feeling about everything. And that came at the end of a bad day so I kinda expected that oil change to go wrong instead of turn my day around, so that was cool! A place like this is only as good as the team of people working and right now the staff is stellar! Thanks for the great service! read more

The guy at Grease Monkey helped me diagnose the issue and top off transmission fluid, and recommended to me that I take it to the dealer for a better chance of solving the underlying issue. I am happy with my experience. I did not wait as long as I thought I would have and they are courteous (opening the door for you and take time to explain billing details). The waiting room has coffee and free wifi. They wash windshields and vacuum the interior of the car. They have a list of services they explain to you on check out. Seems fair enough. read more

My first visit. Came because I had a coupon but dang the guys are fast and efficient. As I pulled up thinking I would park and go in the guys in the bay caught my attention and had me pull up to an unoccupied bay. They were so fast that my husband, who was originally there so I could drop off my car and come back when it was completed decided to go ahead and do his too. Walked inside to give our contact info and they have guaranteed departure times for the other customers posted and counting down. Wow. Last time I had my oil done it took a couple hours. This place so far appears to be a gem. I'll check back in after the service is complete if anything changes but so far very impressed. read more

I have been coming here for oil changes for a couple of years with no problem, but my most recent experience has put me off this place and I would not recommend it. I took my car in for an oil change, and accepted when they upsold me the automatic transmission fluid service because it has been a couple of years and I knew it needed to be done. As soon as my car was finished and I drove out, I could tell something was wrong with the transmission. I only live across the Ballard bridge from there and I walk to work so I don't drive the car much, and I guess I doubted myself that something was different, or I would have driven it around the block and right back into the shop. I have owned this Accord for almost 5 years and have never noticed anything different in its performance until the day of the transmission service I got here. One thing I asked them to do when I checked in was change a bulb in one of my headlights. I returned a couple of hours later, my car was parked in front supposedly finished and ready to go yet they hadn't yet changed the headlight nor called me, and I got the impression that they had had "a rush" and somehow that work order for my headlight had been overlooked. A couple of days later, the check engine light in my car came on and I called Grease Monkey to let them know something was wrong with it since taking it there. They were friendly on the phone and just told me to bring my car back anytime to have it checked. On my way in with it, I stopped at O'Reilly to have them read the check engine code for me and it was P0741 "Torque converter clutch solenoid circuit stuck off." I don't know beyond the first couple Google results what this means. But it could be serious, it could be caused by low transmission fluid, and the way my car was driving was awful. When I got to Grease Monkey for the second time, everyone there gathered and looked under the hood of my car. Ten minutes later a guy came in and said "the transmission fluid was a little low, we topped it off and the engine light is off now." Okay.... When I left the second time, my car was 100% back to normal and running like clockwork. The staff were consistently friendly and courteous to me, and they fixed the problem for free without any comment, but I know they caused whatever the problem was in the first place. They didn't tell me what exactly was wrong with the car to make the gears slip in an automatic transmission. Or what the check engine code was, so I'm glad I got it read somewhere else first. I didn't press them on what the engine light was for, or anything else. But I'm honestly really happy that nothing serious happened to my car while I was driving it. I did take it on the highway, before the engine light came on. It seemed fine at highway speed so I didn't worry at the time. But now I'm wondering what would happen if the transmission burned out or something due to no fluid when I'm going 70mph down I-5. I don't know HOW low the transmission fluid was, but it doesn't matter if it was "just barely low" or "almost empty low." It should not be low at all especially to the point of the system not working properly and the engine light coming on. Especially not when a person is actually getting the transmission fluid service! The fact that someone is able to drive out of this shop in a car in a condition that could imminently lead to thousands of dollars of damage, or cause an accident that injures or kills someone, is what I don't like about your shop, and why I will never come here again. I think something went wrong the day I was here, as shown by them somehow forgetting that I needed the headlight changed. And before this incident I have never had any issue at this Grease Monkey. But to me it's hard to believe that their sloppiness over a small thing like a headlight bulb doesn't spill over into bigger things involving the actual engine of a person's car. To whoever worked on a gold 2-door 2006 Honda Accord, and to whoever didn't check the fluids, on November 6, 2017: Please think about the impact of your job and be more conscientious at work. My personal safety, and the safety of my property, is more important to me than saving $20 on an oil change. I will never trust this shop or bring a vehicle here again. read more

I've been to Grease Monkey several times because of convenience and I honestly feel like they take advantage of the fact that I don't know anything about cars. They always try to push some fixes/maintenance on me EVERY time I went. If you get your oil change here, they will talk you into getting synthetic oil. One time, they even try to tell me I need the same work done that I just got done a month before.... Don't go here unless you are desperate and even then, just don't go here at all unless you want to test your car knowledge and call them out when they try to rip you off. I've never felt more cornered into getting work done on my car as I have at any other car service place. These guys will scare you into thinking you need to get something done TODAY. read more

I have been taking my car to Jiffy Lube for over a year now and this last time I went is the last time I'll go back. I was driving by their location and they had someone out on the street with a $10 off oil change and since I needed one I pulled in and of course other cars started pulling in as well. When it came time to pay the manager told me that the $10 off was only for the first car that came in (which I was) and then handed me a $5 off coupon to use on my next service. I could not bring myself to go to Jiffy Lube a single time more. They've lied to me, squeezed me for every dollar they could get, and always leave me feeling like I need a shower. I decided to try Grease Monkey based on so many good reviews at locations across Seattle. I was greeted immediately upon pulling up to a bay and a very cheerful guy came right over and waited on me. I went in to wait and was impressed by how efficient the guy working inside processed and moved everyone through and the rest of the crew was hustling as well. I was in and out in less than half the time I had expected on a busy Saturday, and clean car windows and a freshly vacuumed interior were the icing on the cake. I literally grinned from ear to ear as I drove away. Found my new oil change spot and I'll recommend it to anyone. read more

I love this place. I always am greeted with smiles, rarely get the push for extra services past what I would expect, and can go in and get refueled for free. I also can count on them to be fast, tidy, and sometimes even leave a flower - love it! Once I had 30 minutes before having to get the kids - they finished in 28 even though they had 2 other cars to get through, and had the car spotless inside. Jiffy Lube up the street wouldn't even take me because it was too tight of a window. Grease Monkey goes the extra mile. They could use some girl magazines and a little cleaner bathroom, however, but these are minor complaints for the great service. read more

I've been coming to this Grease Monkey for 6 years. The last four with my 2009 SS Stage 1 Cobalt which I've owned since new and they're the only ones to ever service it. This is not a car I would entrust to anyone (including the dealership I bought it from). I'm a professional marine mechanic of over 30 years so I think I know what I'm talking about. I get the engine oil changed on full synthetic every 3000 miles even though they tag it for 5000 miles. They even mentioned early on when I got one of my first oil changes the car wasn't due until 5000. I explained my thoughts on the subject and that I've rebuilt and repaired enough engines to make sure mine is changed every 3K. Not a problem. At 22,000 miles I brought in for an oil change and mentioned some noise with the brakes which they had just started doing. I was mortified my brakes were shot on all 4 wheels but he immediately took me out and showed me the damage. I've done enough brakes to know they were shot. He quoted me a price and even showed me how much they buying the parts for and what they charge. Again, this is on a car that can go over a 154 miles per hour and has high performance ceramic brakes. After chatting a few minutes I came to the conclusion they knew what they were talking about and had the work done. Not a single problem with the repair and they did it pretty quick including lubing the caliper pins which I watched on the video cameras they have. Little details that can have a big effect on longevity. Every time they have recommended maintenance it has been inline with the manufacturers service schedule or industry standards. If you say no and you'll get it later they immediately move on. I've watched them handle other customers the same way. They have never been anything but professional and courteous. As long as I own a car in Seattle they will be the ones to service it. read more

My car would not start across the street from this Grease Monkey in Ballard and two of their employees not only walked across the street with me to help me with my problem, they also diagnosed it, told me what needed to be fixed, and got is temporarily started for me. They got a new customer out of me. The Ballard shop is a bit further from my house but I'll be taking my car here simply due to the generosity and kindness of this crew. A++ read more
