Took for oil change. Second day I was driving and smelled strong burning. Took back immediately and they told me the technician left whole bunch of oil spilled around the area. There is now a noise in my engine compartment and I'm concerned about what it means. I get on the phone with Moe's and they help me figure out that only the power steering is affected, that the fan belt is still in place and keeping the water pump and alternator working, so it is safe to drive the car in, it doesn't need to be towed. Moe is THE MAN. Particularly if you own a SAAB, as he's been working with those since they were making jets. I'm on my fourth SAAB that only he touches, and have been working with him for over 20 years. I see some reviews that say hes been difficult or unfair and I can only assume it was double sided. I'm a customer that drops by whenever, always pestering him with questions and expecting him to turn same-day miracles because I don't like to be without my car. He's gotten far too busy to oblige me anymore, but he's never been rude. I buy SAABs because I love them, and he's the one that helped me to appreciate them. His first repair on my first SAAB, I was driving home at 11pm when my front wheel fell off and passed me. I slid on what was left for half a block. I had picked this car up from a friend for $150 and it was thrashed, so.... So I called a tow and had it dropped off at his place. In the morning when I called him, he says, yea yes I'll take a look, it'll be done when you get off work. How much? Don't know yet. 6:00 I go to pick it up, it was ready, and the Bill was $65.00. That was 20 + years ago, but he has ALWAYS BEEN FAIR, done great work that he's stood behind, and has ALWAYS TREATED ME respectfully. He kept that first SAAB running for 2 years, then finally said we needed to put it away, but look, he said- "I've built you a new one, should you want it". That car ran for ever. The latest SAAB is a 9-5 that I bought from his lot. I made a down payment, drove home, and a freak problem popped up. There had been a small crack in a spot where you'd never see it on the cooling tank for the turbo that finally broke. I'd driven it less than 2 hours, and I said to Moe, "You gotta fix this". He reminds me that I've bought the car, and he won't be fixing things for free when they come as a surprise to me, because they sneak up on him as well. So he charged me towing $100, and fixed the $400 problem the next day. Even though it could have never been caught prior and really wasn't his problem. I've NEVER had any problem larger than that with him. He will always explain the situation, what he has to do, and advise the worth of it to me. Wouldn't fix a blown head gasket on one car because it was about time for other parts to wear down as well. See, he won't just take your money- he wants a happy, life long customer. This is his passion, and I'm so happy to see how much he's grown since we met. Because I used to tell ANYONE WHO'D LISTEN about the magic mechanic on 85th that treated a person fairly and refused to do it any other way. In closing , this man here is an artisan of motor vehicles, a lover of his trade, and the most honest man whose palm I've ever crossed with silver. You absolutely have nothing to lose meeting him, and you just may gain a lifelong mechanic/friend that will make that part of your life less aggravating. Someone you can trust, and not lose sleep worrying if he's treating you wrong. It's just not in his nature. And as for the variety of vehicles on his lot for sale, he'll be honest about which ones he's examined and if he thinks they'll fit your needs. (Yes, I'm adding "honest used car salesman" to his accolades!). Look, if the guy even cared about Yelp reviews I don't know. I think he's unaware of them. But his attitude and professionalism make it look like he wants them all to be 5 star, for his own pride, for his reputation. For how he's viewed by his peers. Do not go to this shop if you cannot convince him to agree on something (including time, rates, quality and so on) before you want to schedule appointment. He let me drop my car here but doubled the price after I lyfted to my work place. I have to take the car back and pay for the commute cost myself! Okay. For worse customer service, scam for money, as a year car wouldn't start! It left me stranded. all AAA, three new batteries an alternator, moe tore up wires saying it was my onstar, which I never used, charged me for it, and still the car wouldn't start. My friend did research, and I Had to take my vehicle to another shop on greenwood that works ok Saab's. They have had to not only reppair moe caused to the car, upon installing the second alternator, they had to fix nearly 8k in repairs. Clearly I love this car. In the end, they were unable to provide the quote beyond what I already provided but they charged me for their time to determine they couldn't provide a quote. Ripped off. didn't think to ask what an oil change would cost, but really how much would that be? So, when I returned to pick it up, I was charged a hefty $142.00 !! An oil change??? Gave me some story about synthetic oil, (my 2010 explorer) and also $45 to check the fluids. I thought that would come with the oil change....Even so, then $100 for the oil change. The stellar reviews are completely, 100% justified. They gave me exactly the prompt, no-fuss service I needed for a minor car issue. I called Moe's on my way home from work, at 4:30. (They close at 6pm.) "I've got a 2009 Jetta with a low tire pressure warning and I think it's a puncture," I told them. "When would you be able to check it out?" "You can come over now," the guy said. So I did. I pulled up onto the lot, where a mechanic was under the hood of another car. "You the Volkswagen?" He checked it out. Took about five minutes. "You've got a nail in your tire, want me to patch it?" he asked. I said yes. "Ok, it'll be about fifteen minutes." Ten minutes pass. Moe comes in. "That will be twenty bucks," he says. But this is the awesome part - when I ask if he will take a card, he says "That's ok, you can come back." "Do you need my name or number or anything?" I asked. "Nope!" Moe said. "Just come back." I moved to Seattle in January and after a few weeks without a car, I settled on a decent 2001 SAAB. I knew going in to the deal, it might need a little TLC and boy, was I right. The engine light came on (which is common for Saabs, so I learned), the oil was leaking, and that was enough to bring me to Moe. He needed the car for 2 days, which was nice and short by me, but to my delight, I got a call that all repairs were done after only a day and a half. When I got there, a technician walked me through all of the repairs they had done and even showed me the parts that were replaced in my car. I don't "speak car" but I could understand that they replaced and fixed the essentials. It was going to cost me a pretty penny, but of course these things are worth the peace of mind. The reason I decided to put up my very first Yelp review on Moe's is because of my second visit. Several weeks after the initial repair, my car was idling rough - really rough. People at the stop lights were staring because it seemed like I wanted to race. It was really embarrassing, and I thought it was bad on my brakes, too, so I took her in. Moe himself greeted me, popped the hood and fixed the problem in 5 minutes in front of me. I went to take out my wallet, and he said it's okay. I gave him a HUGE hug...that made my day! The Saab 9-5 was belching white smoke and I limped into Moe's on Sunday. Threw the keys in the door, left a note and a phone message. It was the Turbo which is a pricy repair. Moe did it for a very reasonable cost and he did it the next day! I was impressed with everything about this business. He guaranteed his work and since I live out of town said that if something went wrong in the next year he'd buy the part and ship it to wherever I was so that he could stand behind his work. My 91 SAAB 900 had a bottom pulley separate a fn hard job to do, Kenny had the pulley out and in while I smoked a cigarette and the price was very reasonable to boot! plus he threw in a free oil change using the o.e.m. MANN filter, I love this man and his values just simply the BEST period! Honest, Friendly, and their Work Ethic is to the highest standard I've seen in a long time refreshing indeed! I have to agree with all the great reviews. I had just purchased my car from someone else, and it was ready for a major tuneup. I gave Moe a laundry list of things to look at in addition to the tuneup. After a few hours of shopping in the neighborhood, my car was done, airbags replaced and nearly every item on my "laundry list" items checked off. I nearly dropped when I saw the bill for all that work. $500 for a MAJOR tuneup, and another $350 to replace the airbags (a savings of about $1000). Even though my estimate was $500+ for this kind of major tuneup, I was expecting to pay a whole lot more because of all the little things I asked him to do. There is no upselling, Moe is honest and reasonably priced. I wouldn't trust my Saab to anyone else! read more

I have been going to Moe's now for the past 5 years and have nothing but great things to say. I'm not a "car person", meaning I can put gas in it and drive it but that's about it. Finding a mechanic intimidated me, but Moe and his employee (wish I could remember the guy's name...very nice and efficient) have always taken great care of me and my Saab 9-3. I've gone to Moe's Automotive since March, when I bought a Saab 9000. I've always been impressed. The service is fast, they're friendly, and they don't try to push repairs on you if they don't believe something really needs to be fixed. A few examples: Today, I stopped by because the "check radiator" light in the car had been on for a few weeks. They immediately took a look, tested it, and determined that it needed more coolant which they poured in. They refused to be paid. A few months ago, I went because the brakes were squeaking. Same thing. They took a look, said no repairs were really necessary, and, again, didn't charge me. I've also gone to get my fuel pump replaced and to get my brakes worked on. Both times, I found their rates reasonable and the repairs have lasted. I highly recommend them. read more

Moe's was recommended to me by a young man who saw me outside my house examining a damaged headlight on my SAAB 9000 S a few years ago. He pulled up in a SAAB Turbo 900 and said "If you're looking to get that fixed, check out Moe's Automotive on 85th...he's really the best around for SAAB repairs, and he'll take good care of you." I followed the advice and have been going to Moe's exclusively ever since. He not only fixed the headlight, he did a little cosmetic work on the bumper to make it look better, and the cost was MINIMAL compared to what a dealership would have charged. When the repair is major, it's still less than I'd pay anywhere else (I have the previous receipts to prove it) and I don't mind the cost because I know I can trust the work...Moe and Kenny (and my SAAB) are worth it! read more

This guy rules! If you drive an older Saab, fuck Scanwest, unless your car is in mint condition. If you've got an old Saab with 200,000 miles and just want to keep it going, go here. He's got a graveyard onsite for parts and everytime I've been there, labor is $100...tailight - $100, master cylinder - $100, alternator - $100 and unless there's a lot of cars in front of you, he'll start working on it before you turn off the engine. If he doesn't have a good used part onsite, he knows where to get one. I actually look forward to having my car repaired by this crazy Iranian. This guy rocks! read more

Great service with my temperamental Saab. My car was only acting up when it was in my hands, and worked fine when it was at any shop. I had it towed to Moe's twice, and both times it would run fine. They were patient and when the car broke down on me a third time, they sent a mechanic to me to see if they could get it running long enough to get it to the shop without a tow. Spent a day on it, fixed it for relatively cheap, and couldn't be more pleasant. If you've got an old Saab and you're in Seattle, I'd definitely recommend Moe. read more

I called Moe's to see how much they'd charge to fix a leaking trunk. I spoke w Brad and he said to just bring it by for him to see because he couldn't say over the phone. I bought it by and Brad had AMAZING advice. He suggested how I should fix it and said for me to see if it works. He said no charge and if the fix didn't work to come back and he'd look again. FANTASTIC SERVICE! As a young female with no car knowledge I always hate going to get my car fixed. I feel like I get taken advantage of and it's frustrating not having any knowledge when I am quoted a price. That being said, I feel very comfortable at Moe's and do not question the price or service. Since moving to Seattle I have taken my car here for quite a variety of work. I ended up here after getting a high quote for struts and when I called Moe's he had a much better offer. I do not know how he gets the work done so quickly but I had my car back in no time. More recently, after a car breaking down, it ended up at another shop first. That shop quoted a job at $500 and I knew I had to call Moe's immediately. He quoted a much more reasonable price of $350 and I regretting ever having the car at another place. And after I got the car there, I had it by that afternoon. What everyone else says: 1. Moe is a genius. Really. He just "knows" what is wrong and what isn't. He has the price of every part memorized. He's some kind of savant. 2. Ethics, ethics, ethics. He will not B.S. He will tell you what needs to be done now and what can wait. If you come in sure you have a major repair on your hands, he will tell you if it is something small like topping up fluids and then not charge you. (That has happened to me at least three times.) 3. Today I took the Saab 9.3 in for intermittent stalling, rough idle, coughing. Kenny was sure it was a sensor because it was overdue for failing, and replaced it, but said it might be the ignition cassette (a more expensive part). Unfortunately, he guessed wrong, and I had to bring it back for the same problem before I could get home. Kenny said to leave it, so I did. But before I could catch my bus, I got a call. Moe had returned, checked it out, and then replaced the ignition cassette with a good used one. No charge for that part or labor. So, basically, I got both fixes for the price of the cheaper one and now don't have to worry about either. Honesty, integrity, talent, intelligence. wow. read more

I have been going to Moe's since he has opened and I think it must be about 19 years. Moe has always given me good service. I have more than 130,000 on my car and I can trust him to get it write. In December I needed a new alternator and he put it in. It went bad 3 months later but he replaced it at no charge and had a car for me to drive while he was fixing it. This guy is horrid! How does he have 4.5 stars? He literally destroyed my Saab 4yrs ago. I took it in to get my clutch repaired. Burned out within 3 days of normal commuting and tried to blame me for it. He only repaired it on condition I sign an agreement never to return should it break down again. Foolishly I did so. I got the car back, with only 4 OF 6 GEARS WORKING! I took it to Swedish Automotive in W Seattle. Thank gawd for them but it cost me more money. This Moe guy is an absolute shit. Moe is always available to help! When I asked whether I should make an appointment for an oil change, he replied, "Bring it in whenever you want." He's so easy to work with! I recently had a headlight issue (see my O'Reilly's review) and after that headache, I called Moe. He told me to bring it in so he can see what kind of headlight I need. My family has bought 2 vehicles from this automotive reseller and repair service center. Needless to say, they have screwed us and refuse to do anything about it. We had been told they had fixed the issues involving the axles of our Saab 9-3 being shaky and rattling while driving but after a little under a month it was back. After a week of driving and owning the latest which was the same Saab 9-3 convertible with the rattling axles, the vehicles radiator blew while the vehicle was parked from a cold start. Not to mention that we had to get the axles stop gap fixed by a different mechanic because of this shops inability to get the repairs done right and be honest. Alongside the axles being shot, the car continuously had multiple electrical failures from the start of vehicle purchase. Was told everything was fine with the vehicle before purchase, but as soon as the Seattle rains started the sun roof leaked, shortly after it ceased functioning with no ability to be put back up after being retracted. We also had to put in a new battery weeks after purchase. Continuing to present, the Saab 9-3 convertible has since had the following issues that we have had to pay over $1000 dollars to fix not including previous repairs. Starter relay fuse had to be replaced, ignition tumbler needed cleaning, the vac pump needed a retainer, oil pump was leaking, had a v/c leak, head gasket leak, rear brakes are less than 15%, auto transmission mount is faulty, wheels were unbalanced, and now we are looking at another $1000 dollars for repairs on a v/c leak still, water pump with a leak and dried coolant, the right ball joint in the front axle being loose, and the head gasket going out again with its timing cover leaking. All of these problems costing us over 2 grand on a vehicle we purchased from here at a cost of over 3 grand. Frankly this is ridiculous and we'll absolutely be taking affirmative action.
