Late post from summer 2023. My friend recommended me to see Neil from Aurora Auto Repair to check out my car for issue underneath the pan oil. He found out there was a crack on there. We thought it was going to be a free estimate. he gave us an estimate how much it will cost and he recommended to get it done ASAP. We looked around for pricing and we found a better price than his estimate. It appears he assume we will get the car fixed with him the same day. We told him that we will give him a call if we want to proceed with him. When we try to get the car, he just told us we owe him $100.00. He don't even give us a receipt of what we paid him. I didn't have a choice, but when we got home the leak became bigger. My friend asked how it went with the estimate, I told her that Neil charged us $100.00. She was not happy about it and felt bad about it. I ended up having other mechanic installed a new oil pan for about $500.00 less. Lesson learned, we should ask first if the estimate is free or not. I never had to pay anything when I do estimate for my car, except Aurora Auto Repair. We will not go back or refer him to anyone. read more

I took my red firebird beginning of 2019 to get worked on. I get a call from Neil saying while they were testing the car and the acceleration got "stuck" possibly due to the carpet and crashed my car. I've owned this car for 19 years and never had the problem. Anyways, so his solution was to upgrade my frame to a newer version which would have been a cheap fix for them. They ended up having a shop take care of it. 2 years later I had to discover they super glued it back. Ya'll nothing but a bunch of crooks. I went to check out Aurora Auto Repair about 2 years ago when I owned a Hyundai Elantra touring wagon, based on a recommendation from a friend who has used them for years. Neil, Alex, and his dad do exceptional work at a reasonable price. They only do work that is absolutely necessary and not try to talk you into doing additional work that may not be necessary. Neil is willing to discuss the pros and cons of whether or not to do any additional work. Neil is a fair and decent person to talk to. This place is a hole-in-the-wall near the truck rental place HandyAndy's) not far from the Evergreen-Washelli cemetery. If I hadn't recently bought used tires from the other hole-in-the-wall next to it, I wouldn't have seen it. I went in totally convinced that I needed front brake shoes replaced, and maybe rotors replaced or turned. I asked that they do what was necessary, and to give me a time-to-live on the rear brakes (guess what - I was extremely strapped for cash). Since I had bought the car used, I was basing that on the recent owner's guesses. Turns out, they showed me that the rear brakes had hardly been worn at all, as they were not touching the drums, and the front brakes were not even halfway through their lifecycle. They adjusted the rear brakes -- I even have a parking/emergency brake working now -- and charged me less than their posted hourly rate. (total bill $30 plus tax) They could have milked me. I authorized them to do work that I'm sure any other place would have taken advantage of. I would give them 5 stars, but this wasn't exactly a mechanical miracle, bet definitely honest competent service. As the 4-star caption says, "Yay! I'm a fan." read more

I took my 2001 toyota echo here about a year and a half ago and it was the WORST experience I have ever had with a garage. Both my dads are mechanics, I grew up fixing VW bugs with them, so I'm aware when someone is trying to bull**** me to make some extra money on the assumption that as a woman I don't know anything. I was pretty sure the timing chain had snapped, after calling around these guys agreed to do a diagnostic for $60. Sweet, I have it towed there and drop it off. after TWO DAYS I get a call from the owner saying "yeah, there isn't any compression so it snapped and the engine is probably trash. It'll cost $2,500 to replace the engine, or we'll just buy it off you for $200" uhmm what? After further conversations his 'diagnostic test' started to be "I tried to turn it on and looked under the hood". He finally admitted he didn't even check the timing chain! All the while continuing to try and buy it off me for $200. I told him no and that I would have a tow truck come pick up the car, paying the $60 over the phone to his other employee (and the only other person in the shop). The owner then TURNS AWAY MY TOW TRUCK saying I never paid and was selling him the car! Furious, I call him and demand he release my car, he apologizes saying he didn't know it had been paid and thought I was going to sell it to him. Despite that the last time we spoke I TOLD HIM NO AGAIN. I met the tow truck to make sure he wouldn't screw up anything again, and the whole time he tried to get me to sell it while being inappropriately familiar and sexist ("pretty girl like you doesn't want to deal with this headache, its not worth it. You can't fix it") I left and found a mutual friend mechanic who was willing to look at it for me. The problem? a combination of a broken throttle and some starter issues. About $100 in parts and another $200 in labor. I can't believe how slimy and dishonest this place was, to the point of trying to buy my perfectly fine car for a fraction of its worth (KB $2300) under the disguise that it needed a complete engine overhaul. Stay FAR FAR away. read more

On the recommendation of a friend, I have enlisted Aurora Auto Repair over the last 6 years with 3 different vehicles, and am happy to report that from the tiniest oil change to the more complicated endeavors, I always come away 110 per cent satisfied with the cost and the work. I went in here today to get my rear brake pads replaced. The price was about 50% of what I had been quoted at many other repair shops. It was fast, easy, and inexpensive. Would give zero stars if I could. Went to Neil to replace the alternator on my Mini Cooper, had to replace it three more times after that and Neil said "just bad luck". But we finally went to signature independent in Kirkland, they replaced the alternator for the same model Neil put in and said that they ran one test and the alternator was the wrong model. That the previous replacement was clearly a wrong model and that Neil shouldve told us that. When Neil replaced it, the engine light was still on and the tests said the voltage was too high but he said it's fine and that it'll work fine. One year later, I'm st a stop light and my engine completely dies. As soon as we brought it to signature independent, one day later they had the car fixed, checked everything else, even cleaned up the car a bit and only cost a couple hundred more than Neil. Not only do I not recommend aurora auto repair, I would say they'll try to trick you to make you come back and replace the same part like we had to three times. read more

This place is one of my least favorite to go for a part replacement and repair. The service provided is inconsistent with scheduling and inconsiderate of your time. I would only recommend if you want less than what you paid for, and listening to personal conversations during time not spent at the desk or, in my case, when your parts are ready. The employee who helped me, Neil, had me schedule an appointment to get my car fixed, however, left a discrepancy of 1.5 hours wait time before spearheading the repair. If you do not have a flexible job where you can do things remotely, I wouldn't bank on getting things done on time or prioritized here. read more

Bought a car for my daughter from this crook summer of 2011. Ten months later the thermostat housing cracked and was leaking. He replaced it, but his bonehead mechanic put the thermostat in backwards and I drove it home that way. The car ran, was a little rough, but then and a month later overheated to the point it blew the head gasket, and paid Neil $600+ to replace the head gasket. A couple weeks later overheated again, (still nobody knew the thermostate was backwards) but he told me this time it was the radiator so paid $400 for that. Couple weeks later overheated again and he said it he needed to flush out the old coolant and paid $125 for that. With the t-stat still backwards it overheated 6 times over the course of the next 8 months. He would never fixed it right, just kept charging me to fix things, each time saying it would be the last time. Finally Neil told me to put in a block sealer that would TEMPORARILY fix the head gasket but ruin the engine, and sell the car, because he couldn't figure it out. So I took it to a reputable shop. They checked the cooling system and they found the thermostat HAD BEEN PUT IN BACKWARD, that's why the coolant wouldn't flow through the engine and cool the motor correctly. This other shop put in a new thermostat correcty for $40, but the damage to the engine was done. All the overheating had ruined the engine. It leaks fluid into the cylinders and very hard to start now. And when Neil had fixed the head gasket so many times, they didn't reconnect the hoses correctly and they're are hoses just not hooked up, don't know where they go. Also the other shop showed me the battery Neil had sold me was stamped on the case year 2000! But Neil had put a little sticker saying it was new. I told Neil and the whole reason for all the overheating was his guy put the thermostat was in backwards when he had replaced it 8 months before. Neil said the other shop is lying, so he doesn't need to refund any money to me. I asked him to call that shop but he wouldn't. He knows they're right, because it finally doesn't overheat, but he just wanted me to leave. He wouldn't even take responsiblity for any of the wrong rediculous repairs or apologize for making me waste so much time and money, not to mention the inconvenience of the car breaking down on my son and daughter many times and having to tow the car to him. His shop and work practices should be investigated, because he's just ripping people off selling totaled cars and with problems, and then charging to fix them wrong when you bring them back. read more

I took my 1980 cutlass supreme brougham to these guys a few days ago after visiting half a dozen or so shops and getting mixed answers and prices from each. These guys reassured me that they were gonna do a FULL and ACCURATE diagnostic on my car and give me a whole list of work that needs to be done (that's what I was looking for). They told me to call the next day and they'll let me know everything. I did and they kept ignoring my calls. They finally called back and said they need it for two more days and told me all the symptoms that I myself already told them. I called to confirm if I'll be charged more than the quote they gave me when I dropped off the car and the owner jumped from a-z and said "let's do a transmission service and go from there" no need to check out the whole car if the transmission won't improve after the service. Whatever, he sold the idea so good that it distracted me from my original request and what they said they would do for me. Picked up the car today and after a few hours and miles of driving, I'm now sitting on the side of the road because my transmission leaked all the fluids that was in it. I called Neil and he offered to pay for towing and to fix the issue ONLY if it was caused by their work. If caused by faulty parts it'll be my responsibility to pay for the tow and to fix the issue. Might I add that my car was in better shape when I left it with them compared to them giving it back to me. It's 90 degrees in the middle of rush hour traffic and he wants to send a tow truck 30+ miles to pick up my car and then bring it back another 30+ miles to his shop with no guarantees that they will fix the issue that THEY caused, I'm ok. Ill just never go there again. So this is my FULL and ACCURATE diagnostic on AURORA AUTO REPAIR. Have a nice day. read more

Honest mechanic. I've been taking my Hondas to Neil for 10 years. He consistently does great work at fair prices. I do all the repairs on a couple old cars I own, but not the new computerized, fuel injected cars - too complicated. Since I understand automotive repair, I am sensitive to excessive quotes and overblown diagnoses. I won't take my car to a dealer ever. I bring my cars here.
