Just an update to my earlier review. We got a call today that my car is done!! Affordable, amazing service. I can't think of anyone else in this business who would make multiple house calls on their way home from work to try to get the key/ignition working. Holy. Oh. My. Freakin'. Goodness. Soooooooo good. Ok. I'm so impressed I'm not even sure where to begin. TL:DR - I would give them 10 stars if I could. They found a problem that another 5 star reviewed mechanic missed. I will start at the beginning... Daisy (my 2001 Nissan Xterra who is the love of my life) started to sputter and die on the road randomly. Took it to the dealership (Edmonds Nissan, which used to be reasonable, but has really gone downhill over the last few years). They are not diagnosticians, and simply read the code (which I could do myself). Based on that recommended replacing the O2 sensor, but that didn't resolve the problem -- Daisy kept on dying. The next time it happened they told me that it was the fuel level sensor (which, as an engineer, confused me 'cause how could a fuel level sensor make your engine die, but ok) combined with a clogged catalytic converter, which would cost nearly $7000 (this on top of the several thousand I already spent). I let them replace the fuel level sensors ($600) because they gave me a loaner car for a week, but knowing they probably can't find the real problem, I wasn't going to let them do more useless work. A friend suggest that I call around for a second opinion, and I called Edmonds Automotive Service. Jerry talked me through the problems and told me he was fairly certain that it's NOT the cat, but he is backed up for 9 weeks so I should take it to someone else to have it looked at. I ended up taking Daisy to Dave's Auto Service (another 5 star yelp reviewed auto repair place) and Dave was able to ID the actual problem - a distributor, but after the distributor fix, the car had weird sounds and really crappy gas mileage. Like was getting around 10-12 miles to the gallon instead of 15-18. I called Edmonds Automotive Service back a few weeks later and just told them that I just want to pay them to look at Daisy because something still felt off. They were able to schedule me in 6 weeks later. Upon inspection, Nate Id-ed a few potential issues, many with easy fixes... he looked at the cats, which are old, but not causing any trouble (he tested the exhaust pressure). After a quick discussion with me, he realized that the distributor was installed a bit off and the timing was off. Another quick fix, Daisy is as good as new. Total cost: $165.60 (about the same $ the dealership charge me to look at the car - aka read the code). Seriously think Edmonds Automotive Services needs to charge more for THIS LEVEL OF MAD DIAGNOSTIC SKILLS!! And oh, everyone is sooooooooo nice to boot. I can not highly recommend them enough. read more

My wife and I had been out of town over Thanksgiving and our smaller Prius remained at home over the five days. I woke up to go to work this morning and when I turned on the engine, it made a LOUD rumbling noise that only increased when I put it in drive. I left the car and took our other one to work. A wise coworker recommended Edmonds Automotive Service saying that she and her family had used them for years and loved their work and service. My wife called them around 1:30pm and Nate said, "Bring it over now"! By 2:20pm, they had determined the problem and ordered the parts. I don't even know how to begin. This is the best customer service I have ever experienced and the owner Chaz went above and beyond to be helpful and honest with me in a tough car situation. Long story short, my clutch went out in Edmonds on my way home to MT. We got a hold of the shop 5 minutes before closing and the owner came to the hotel I parked in and spent over half an hour helping me weigh options. I then spent the next day, a Saturday, on and off phone with him trying to figure out best way to get my car repaired. It had several issues. I left Edmonds to MT Saturday night and left my car at the hotel. Easter Sunday morning he went in and did an analysis of my car after having towed it to his shop late Saturday night. He then advised I have it towed to MT to do repairs at my mechanic as the cost of the tow would be equivalent to the cost of WA repairs vs MT repairs. He even found someone for me to hire to do the towing. He did all of this with the intent of referring me back to my own mechanic from the beginning, meaning his shop would not even earn the repair fees. I don't know how I was lucky enough to find this man, but I am beyond grateful. If you live anywhere in the north Seattle area, it is worth the drive to take your car here! read more

Where do I begin???? I have a 1999 Chevy Tahoe, 190,000 miles that I love. Last year I was having trouble with the front end, a wobble during tight turns. I had it rebuilt 3 months prior at another repair shop, but it just wasn't right. I took it in to Edmonds Automotive, and as I suspected it was only partially rebuilt. The parts that were new were dry even though there were grease ports. They corrected the issue, replaced the rest of the parts and I was good to go. Since then, they have done a complete brake job, a few noise issues, but they stayed on it until it was fixed. Replaced my radiator, all the other fluid maintenance, as well as a tune up. It runs like new. Be warned, it takes about 30 days to get an appointment, but well worth the wait to have an honest mechanic work on your truck read more

I brought in a compact SUV that we were wanting to buy from a used dealership for a pre-purchase evaluation, they fit me in fairly quickly and took the time to discover things about the vehicle that I could never have know on my own or looking at the CarFax report. When asked if this was car he would recommend to his mom if she was looking for such a vehicle he (I was dealing with Nate) said "I'd tell her to take a pass." He took the time to go over his concerns in some detail, which was especially nice since the evaluation was free, and also recommended some other models to look at with better repair track records. This place is SO trustworthy I towed my car from a repair shop in Issaquah to have them look at it - and it was worth every penny. Reading the one negative review on here actually got my blood boiling - THAT'S how reliable and honest they are. Three generations of my family have been Edmond Auto regulars. When I was on the used-car hunt last year, I brought 3 different cars on 3 different days for them to do inspections before I considered buying - and each time someone was available to stop what they were doing and spend the next 10-15 minutes talking specifications thru with me in a way that made me feel like I was going to make the right decision, even though I know absolutely nothing about cars. And it was no charge! For basically stealing 15 minutes of their time - how many other shops have that level of care for their customers? Fast forward to 12 months and 1 move to Snoqualmie later. Said car overheats on I-90. Having already established I am woefully deficient in car knowledge, I continue driving it (I know, I know...now) until I find a repair shop in Issaquah that specializes in German engines and has good yelp reviews. They run a diagnostic (for $30) and tell me that they would like to remove something and check something and all in all the estimate is $3000-4000, possibly replacing the engine. ?!?!?! I freak out. Call my parents. Also woefully deficient in car knowledge. Next call I make: Edmonds Auto. I (tearfully) explain the situation and parrot back what the other repair shop said was needed, and they calmly tell me exactly what to say when I call them back: what to ask for, what to say I need done, and how they would handle the situation. I take a deep breath and call back the other shop. Long story short, this back and forth of Me, the Other Shop, and Edmonds Auto continues for a few more calls (next estimate from the Other Shop: $2700). I make the call to the tow shop to get the car the heck out of Issaquah and up to Edmonds. Edmonds Auto fixes the problem (something did need to be replaced, but it sure wasn't the entire engine) and the car is back on the road for under $700. Not a problem since. I appreciate having a car repair shop in my corner to honestly look into what the problem is and the best way to fix it - instead of jumping ahead to let's handle the worst case scenario first and pay lots for it. I understand a whole new engine would've also fixed the problem and the car would be better than ever - but if my dog broke his leg I wouldn't get a new dog, you know? Yeah, not the same thing but you get it. read more

Wow! Edmonds automotive went above and beyond. I called on a Sunday to leave a message about how my muffler and tail pipe had come loose and was dragging under my 1975 Volvo. Chazz called me the next day and when I asked how much it would run, be said under $100. That sounded great to me, since I'm a self-supporting student. He went over to where it was parked downtown to check it out. I was on my way to work, so he said if I dropped off my keys he could run it back to the shop that same day. When I saw him next, he was standing in line at the coffee shop where I work to drop of my car keys. Without giving me a bill he said it came to $20 and to just come by when I had a chance. I assume since it was only a matter of welding he just fit it right in, I hear EA is booked sometimes months ahead. All in all, I had the most heart-warming "small town" experience here and they have earned a lifetime customer. The business has been passed down to Chazz who is the son of the previous owner. I went to Chaz at Edmonds Automotive because of the positive reviews I read and was so glad I did! I read that they do free pre-purchase used car inspections, but thought it was too good to be true. So I called to confirm and they do! Chaz talked with me on the phone about my car choice, pros/cons, what concerns I had, etc. and made me feel like I could trust him. I brought it in the very next day and he spent about an hour with me walking me through what he was checking and why. He also reminded me to be proactive about maintenance and keep a record of what's soon due, what's been done, etc. And this was all for free!
