Don't come here for body work. Initial visit: fixed most of the problem (scrape and ding on back passenger door). Noticed some scratches we didn't see before, but they said it wasn't them. Brought the car back to fix a small paint issue. Second visit: car came back with the initial issue fixed, but even more scratches similar to what we noticed after first visit. A razor blade was left in the trunk and a long scratch from the passenger door to the taillight. Oh and the super boost setting was on, which we never use. Third visit to fix the damage they had done: most was addressed, but not all. Now that it's been lighter out (Seattle dark and rainy winter) we noticed that the paint doesn't match the rest of the car. They have a separate location for bodywork, which they didn't tell us upfront until we asked where they were doing it and it's "down the street". It is going to cost us thousands of dollars to fix their workmanship and don't trust taking it there for a fourth time. read more

We have used James auto service for the last 20 years. Multiple cars. Personal and business vehicles. James, the owner has always been very fair and honest with us. He has given us options and helped us when making costly decisions. He has fixed some things at no cost and has always stood behind his work. These days it's hard to find honest mechanics and most of us are worried if we are being taken advantage of. We have never felt this way with James. He always tries to get our repairs done in a timely manner and always calls us to make sure we are aware of all repairs and costs. James is a good man. I had an oil leak and a coolant leak. I called James told him my issues he said bring it in and explained the procedures to locate both and said he would call and let me know what the problems were. He called the next morning told me what the problems were quoted me a price and I agreed to the repairs. James and his crew made the repairs and finished sooner than expected called me to come pick up my car. When I got there he explained what he did and what to expect after the repair. This is where I will bring all my vehicles for future issues. I have used the dealerships in my area for GM and I have always felt like I just got hosed. I was quoted $500 for brake pads at a local tire place, and was rec. this place from a recent uber driver. My boyfriend called James and was quoted $300 over the phone. I just brought my car in today, they looked at it and found other things wrong but called me first to let me know and get an approval. I was elated with the speediness and price. I had a lady friend get some work done here.... I warn you now that it's a place that will rob you! she was taken for $2000.00 after having to take her car to another shop and having them find out the issue, I would think if you brought your car in 3 times and you still never address fixing the problem you would honor those times and do the work for not finding the problem, I wouldn't let them put gas in my car, that's how bad service is!!!!!!!!!!! read more

Awesome! Super fast, straightforward, and reasonably priced. I had a problem crop up just yesterday. I was without a second vehicle, so they worked me in right away and got it finished all today. Don't judge a book by its cover. This shop may not the cleanest shop that would impress you. Especially the owner (James) is not good looking guy, either. However, I was so impressed by his honesty and his skills. I have a few years old Toyota sienna mini van and it had check engine light so took it to a Toyota dealer. They told me that they have to dignos the issue and I will be charged little over a hundred dollars an hour and I have to leave my van for a couple of days. After couple of days, I got a call from the dealer saying that I owe almost $250 (with sales tax) so far, but they haven't found the problem, yet. They need authorization to put more time to work on it to find the problem, but they still wouldn't guarantee. Therefore, I just decided to pick up and not to spend more money on something that may or may not fix the problem. As I was getting out of the dealer, I saw James auto service shop and it looked cheap (sorry James, but it does.. Lol) so I parked my van and talked to James about my issue. He said he will charge $80 to find a problem, but will not charge any if he can not find the problem so I said OK since I had nothing to lose. He pop the hood and he asked me to give some gas up to 3-4k rpm... I only gave probably 5 times or not even. He found out some miss fire. It took him almost 30 seconds to find out the problem which the Toyota dealer couldn't even find in couple of hours. I was impressed!! After he found out there was miss fire from cylinder #3, he looked at me with smile and said since i saw him taking less than a minute for diagnostic, he cannot even charge for it so I only owed him $80 for a coil and $40 to put on. I am going to take all my vehicles to James. He is a great guy and very very honest!!! read more

James is a great mechanic. He replaced the starter in my '99 toyota 4runner for a very reasonable cost. He is very skilled and asked lots of questions before doing the work to make sure the starter was the issue. He also tested the replacement starter that I brought in to make sure it was good before wasting his time and my money doing the job.
