What's the point of having an appointment if they are going to have you wait an hour or more after your set time?

Go literally anywhere else for whatever needs you may have. In a roadside emergency, if this was the nearest place, I would pay extra to go somewhere else, far away from Gateway Auto Repair and the awful people who work there. These men are the rudest, most unprofessional people I have ever had to deal with in any business transaction in my life. I did not go here expecting to have a red carpet rolled out for me, but even with low to no expectations, my experiences (yes, experiences, I had to work with them several times) were uniformly terrible. Their ability to make every single interaction from simply taking payment for their services, to answering basic questions (like where should I park my car while I wait?) unnecessarily confusing, stressful, and hostile is almost impressive, were it not so frustrating and upsetting to deal with. Unless you enjoy being scammed and talked to disrespectfully, go ANYWHERE but here. These guys have the worst attitude towards customers I've ever seen, they do the bare minimum, and then charge you an ungodly amount (they even charge you if your battery needs to be charged, it's ridiculous) I leave my appointments with them feeling disrespected, stressed out, and angry. Went into gateway to get a smart start installed in my truck for obvious reasons and my experience with them was far from superior. They were not willing to give me any answers to my questions, and frankly they made me feel like a low life scum while I was there due to my situation. Once I left the auto repair I took a turn onto the freeway and heard a huge bang in my engine bay, never have I heard that sound before since owning the vehicle. Still till this day do not know what it was. Be very aware of going to this auto repair shop. They need to Learn to treat their customers with dignity and respect in these trying times. read more

It was a nightmare having to deal with this shop, since the beginning the guy who helped me was unfriendly and rude. I went there referred by someone else as being the most inexpensive to install an interlock. At least that's what I was told... I got there and my truck was perfectly working at 100% performance! After the installation it began to have mechanical and electrical issues, at the end of the day even the wipers weren't working! I called and spoke to him and he instructed me to take the truck to the shop. After dropping the truck off he called me a few hours later and gave me 6 different excuses, he stated the interlock did not work because my truck is too old and has a lot of miles. He charged me $200 for scanning it with his small device plus the interlock uninstall, I paid a total of $600 and my truck is no longer working! It has been the worse experience I've ever had! $94 for an oil change??? Called and they quoted me $80 over phone and would provide discount if I paid in cash. When I got there it was $87 & the final total was $97! When I asked about the discount they took off $3. How generous! 2 weeks later my oil light is on. Some dumb guy walks around the shop talking and acting like he's giving you a deal and doesn't do anything. They're scammers and took advantage of me being a woman with a crying baby to get my money and me out of there quicker. Bottom line: don't go there. read more

Started with the owner badmouthing all warranty companies which should of been a red flag. He said he tried to call my warranty company several times but couldn't reach them. When I called my warranty company, they said they log all calls and hadn't heard from him. I have warranties on 3 other cars and have never experienced the next part. The owner charged me sales tax of $275 on the work because he said the warranty company doesn't pay sales tax. In fact, I just picked up another car at another shop that did $1,600 worth of warranty work and guess what, no sales tax charge. After checking with the Dept of Revenue, Gateway wasn't supposed to charge the tax so I wrote owner asshat a letter asking for a refund (refused). Go to Dave's a across the street if you want a reputable shop in the area. read more

I don't know what the negativity is all about. My family and I have been going to these guys for years (10+ years), and have always had a pleasant, straight answer experience. I've (mistakenly) tried other garages and services and have regretted not sticking with Gateway Auto Repair. The owner, Steve Roe not only runs a tight ship, but Michael also does a great job with customer service over the phone. They don't BS you, nor do they overcharge. They have incredible patience and never make me feel like I've impeded on their time. I drive an older vehicle, 1998. After my Jeep was recently broken into, they actually found a window that matches (even with the right color tint) to replace the damage from the break in! I was told by Speedy Glass that my type of tinted window wasn't even available in this country any more, but Gateway Auto Repair found one, and charged me less than what Speedy Glass quoted me! $57.54 to remove an oil filter cap and reinstall the filter. I asked Mike how much it would cost for an oil change for a Toyota Prius. He says $75. Hmmm. The last mechanic tightened the oil filter cap too tight so we couldn't remove it ourselves. This is why we needed to go to a shop to remove it. Jiffy Lube said that they would have done it for free. Yes Mike is a very nice and pleasant guy. I just don't agree with the price for 10 minutes of work. read more

Bessy, My beloved 1999 Honda Accord starting running really rough, then didn't want to start after a week or two of acting up. My brother recommended I take her into Gateway, as he swears by them, and has been going there for years now, since he moved into Mountlake Terrace. So, on a slight leap of faith, I took her in with the hopes she could once again be just as vibrant as I'd come to know and love. As it happened, she needed a new water pump and timing belt, and later the following day I received a call from Mike. In a very friendly voice he informed me that my girl was all taken care of, and ready to be picked up! Couldn't be happier with the service at Gateway, and I was pleasantly surprised at how reasonable the price was, definitely hundreds less than I expected. Bessy has started every time and run great ever since, so thanks again to all the guys there, and you've got a new customer for life! read more

I took my boy friends van to be serviced here this morning. The owner is a straight up ass hole he's not very customer oriented. His employee was more attentive to what i was there for. The whole time the owner was trying to help me he was on his self phone on a personal phone call. Over all I think this place is a joke and super unprofessional and would not take any vehicle here. If this wasn't the only auto shop around that does what i needed done I would never come here. read more

Absolutely fantastic experience! I had a bit of a car disaster on a Thursday night, and brought it in on a Friday morning. Despite having a packed schedule of repairs of other fine folks' cars stretching through the weekend, they were able to diagnose my poor little wheeled baby and fix what turned out to be a minor problem, and I had her back Saturday afternoon. These guys are awesome. Our company has a small fleet of old trucks and I drive a 22 year old jeep so I spend way too much time here. I first met these guys when I took my old Honda Civic into Gateway Auto in 2012. I needed a new muffler and some other stuff and since I knew it was going to be a lot of work I had gotten repair quotes from a Honda dealer ($1,800) and 3 other independent shops ($1,200, $1,100, $900). Steve at Gateway ended up doing more work than the other shops quoted and charged me less. He charged me only $800. I've never taken my car anywhere else since then. Steve and Mike aren't going to kiss your bum and give you a hot towel massage in the waiting room but they take great care of my brother's car, my mom's car, my 22 year old jeep and our fleet of crappy old work trucks. read more

These guys are fantastic! They were the only ones willing to take the time to figure out a problem that had been plaguing my car for months! I took it to a different location twice and they claimed to have checked everything but the problem persisted. I have been going to Gateway since 2008, and have always been happy with their work. I have had several repairs done on my truck over the years, as well as basic tune-ups and oil changes and have always been pleased with how thorough the guys are and how quickly they can get me back on my way. I have never felt like I was being over-charged or that anyone was trying to talk me into work that wasn't necessary. It may not be the fanciest shop with a big waiting room, but they do good work for a good price and don't waste your time. I will keep coming back to Gateway, and have recommended to friends. read more

BEWARE OF THIS THIEF this mechanic shop just sold me a false advertised car. The seller said "the car was in working condition " that the only thing that will need to be replaced was the battery. I messaged him asking if the car was really in working condition he said "YES" I asked if the car would make it to my house since the battery was bad he again said "YES". I went to pick the car up at the mechanic shop he turned the car on it seemed to be working perfectly fine like he has advertised on his post. I bought the car than drove a couple feet away until the car broke down. I went back to the mechanic shop and told this guy what happen and he refused to give me my money knowing that he had sold me a broken car. So I bought a new battery for the car and it started working until It broke down on me on the freeway and this time smoke came out of the car. i went in to get the bulb replaced in the headlight of my gmc truck. next thing i know is they are prying on it and finely broke the lens. not very smart for a certified mechanic, if he didnt know how to do the work, there is all sorts of information on the internet. they finely replaced it with so off brand and it leaks it fills with water. so i went back in to get it replaced again and when i pulled and got out of my truck the owner comes out of his office as Mike goes and hides, the owner started yelling at me and saying i cussed out his mechanics, yea i did for busting the head light that a real mechanic would have never done, a real mechanic would have looked up how to do the repair not just start prying on things till they break. back to the owner he was very threatening to me as he yelled he was spiting in my face. I am going to go get a new gmc headlight put in then i am going to take them to court to get my money back for their screw up. a company like this should not be in business. they take advantage of people. i am handicapped and he saw my tag in the window and said why dont you go tell the cripples too after i told him what i was going to do, they have no respect for the disabled. i hope people read this before they put them selves in that situation. their ad says they have ase certified mechanic i really dont think they are, more back yard mechanics. please spread the word about gateway auto repair so no other people get screwed over read more
