Was told by a "Subaru" advertised shop in Kirkland that my transmission needed replacement, among other "diagnostics" = 15k+ for repairs. A referral brought me to Sonny Auto. Less than $200 for a new battery and a couple additional repairs. This is my forever mechanic. read more

I have been coming to sonny's for ten years. Dan is the best mechanic I know. He is honest, trustworthy, very reasonable. He has put in a transmission, radiator, fixed an engine leak and so many other things on my car. He is the best and a few other things on my old lexus. I wouldn't go anywhere else as well as not charged me for other things. 5 stars ***** read more

My car broke down, I had towed my truck to his place, and it costed me $197 (by the way, he recommended his friend's tow truck company ----Rapid Roadside Runner, LLC (206) 289-0379---towed to Shoreline Auto Repair (206.364.7770). The car has been parked in the parking for more than two weeks, but it's never been touched. (The original agreement was to get it done in only 3 days!) In addition, it cost to tow my truck to a different repair shop to get it fixed. The shop owner's name is DAN, and he is Vietnamese. We came in to this neighborhood shop when my son had a median jump out at him, ripping through the oil pan cover. Dan took a look, fit it into his busy schedule, and within 3 business days, had a new cover delivered & installed for a great price...totally transparent about parts and labor costs. He even changed the oil filter and gave a quick service, making sure it was handed back to us in great shape for a great price. Thank you!!! read more

My transmission blew on my 1998 Acura RL in the parking lot of my work. This tranny was bad when I bought the car and was lagging then jumping between gears when shifting at high RPM or in reverse. On a whim towed it to a shop in Renton but regret it when faced with lackluster service and a 5k quote. I opted to leave it there while I sought alternatives. My buddy from work recommended Dan's shop Sonny Auto Repair in Shoreline. Dan found a transmission for my car with 70k miles. While every other shop I contacted rebuilds transmissions 'per policy' prior to install (about 2k in additional labor) Dan's answer was clear: "This transmission won't need a rebuild," and quoted half of what all other shop's estimated. I thanked my coworker and towed it to Sonny Auto Repair to meet Dan. During the installation Dan was prompt and transparent with every critical process step. 1. Photo documentation of burnt fluid encrusted on engine before cleaning, and the result after cleaning. 2. Photo documentation of two separate leaking engine gaskets (unanticipated but necessary & fairly quoted extra for the parts and labor). 3. Prompt anticipation and communication of changes to estimated completion time. I had my car back in two weeks and ended up paying about 3k. Started and shifted while parked like a brand new vehicle. Drove home like a brand new vehicle. Completed 1500 mile road trip like a brand new vehicle. Completed alpine ski trip like a brand new vehicle. I know I was a bit delayed with this review but I just want to let you know it's people like Dan who make the USA great. Dan, thank you for your honesty, fantastic service, and special attention to quality. If you or anyone you know needs work done forget all other shops and call Dan at Sonny Auto Repair. He and his team are experts and quote very fairly. Thank you so much!!! read more

I love these guys! I've been there twice and both times was given speedy, friendly, competent service. The first time, I pulled in without an appointment because my car was acting up (It was a while ago and I can't remember now what the problem was). I think it was Dan who came out, looked under the hood, fixed the problem on the spot. And when I asked him how much I owed him, he said "don't worry about it." Then yesterday, during that record rainfall, I called to make an appointment to replace a burnt out headlight. The guy on the phone said he was booked up, but to just come over and he could have his son do it for me. When I got there the parking lot was filled with cars, so I could see that they really were completely back up. But Dan came out in the pouring rain, getting soaking wet, and replaced the headlight bulb for twenty bucks. I feel so fortunate to have these guys just a few blocks up the street from my apartment. They remind me of the kind of friendly neighborhood businesses that I grew up with back in the 40s and 50s read more

I took my car to Dan three times. On the third time, he screwed me! He lied about my pump motor not working. He said that he changed the water pump and the coolant pump. In fact, all he did was replace the gasket on the pump and patch the hose for the coolant. When the hose started to leak again, I brought it back and he replaced it. He said it was not covered by his warranty, so he wanted the hose and labor added. He took advantage of the return customer. I will not be back again. read more

While driving to get gas at Costco; my car suddenly had flashing lights telling me to check my emission system. My acceleration became weird and I had to quickly exit the i5 to figure out what's wrong. Not sure what to do, I hopped on Yelp to find this business 3 minutes away. I called them and the man said he had time to help me out. Turns out, this business was recently sold to a new owner/ friend named Dan. It's not Sonny anymore. Boy was a lucky to find Dan. The shop is called Shoreline Auto Repair. The business has yet to be updated online. He was able to do a quick and free diagnosis ($175 quoted at the dealership!) to find out my ignition coil was bad. He was able to call somewhere and they delivered the part. I went from a car that was shaking and breaking down going 15mph to back on the road in less than 1 hour. Best of all it was quick and affordable. As someone who has minimal knowledge on cars, it's always a fear that mechanics would take advantage of me. However Dan is honest and reliable. I would 10/10 recommend him to anyone! read more

Sonny Auto Repair - Auto Repair Near Me - Shoreline, Washington

Owner and support are awesome! Quick and fairly priced. I've taken both our cars there. Definitely recommend!

Dan is reasonable and provides prompt service. I highly recommend him for vehicle repairs!

"Above and beyond" doesn't even begin to describe my experience at Sonny Auto Repair. My brakes were completely shot and Sonny went out of his way, even repairing a couple of 'extras' free of charge, to get the job done right, in record time and for minimal cost. After a lot of bad experiences previously, it was such a relief to realize that "an honest mechanic" actually DOES exist... his name is Sonny. read more

My car broke down and had it towed to Sonny Auto Repair. With tow and cost of repairs I decided to donate it. Sonny wouldn't work with me on when the car could be picked up by Kars for Kids. I had to pay additional tow costs. I will not be reckon amending this shop. I wouldn't be sending any family or friends to him. read more

From my experience they were unprofessional. I had stopped in with electrical questions to my truck & was told by the owner to return the following week, anytime Monday-Tuesday. And to leave my truck for a few hours. When I asked for an appointment, he said it was not necessary. I returned on Tuesday, the owner said he was too busy & to come back Friday! In both instances, he did not ask any further questions what so ever & didn't even take any information about me or my truck down. Very informal & whatever attitude. Not dependable & timely. I don't recommend them as you may or may not get the work done in the timely manner. Needless to say, I will not be going back. read more

Last week my car was broken down due to major oil leaking after got off work. I just accidentally found Shoreline Auto Repair on my way and drove in. It was super late, pass the closing time, but the owner diagnosed the issue and fixed right away for me. The price is reasonable. Great service:) Highly recommended read more

Sonny has been our car and truck guy for over 15 years. He has always been honest about what needs to be done and how much to fix it. Quick and inexpensive oil changes, and most major repairs. If you're ever in a jam, and need your vehicle towed to a repair shop- this is the guy to call. He may sound brusque at times but he is very kind and will get you back on the road asap. Also a great sense of humor if you get to know him! read more

The most horrible auto repair shop ever. Came there to fix the ballast for my car, he gave me a link to order the ballast online. After 2 months, the ballast broke again and he said it wasn't his fault as I am the one who order the ballast online not him. Totally not responsible for what he had done. And the price is not cheap as well, just average price but as u walk out of that shop, he not gonna do anything if problem happen what the stuff he fixed. Don't ever bring your car to that shop what so ever. read more

I am writing this as a huge favor to all of you! Sonny is nothing less than amazing. We have taken our 3 cars to Sonny for the past three years and the guy knows everything about cars. He is beyond fair and reasonable with his prices and you can always trust him to tell you the truth. If you live within a 60 mile radius and have a car problem, have Sonny check it out. You will not be sorry. read more

We brought in a 2007 Toyota Highlander yesterday for a used car inspection. Sonny gave us a breakdown on what needed to be repaired or replaced, complete with a written estimate. He also gave us a $30 discount for his services. Great person, great service! read more

I have a regular mechanic, but I was in the area and needed some immediate work. I decided to try out Sonny and came away very impressed! My car was looked at immediately and I was given a quick quote and diagnosis. The quote was very fair. I decided to get the work done and it was finished in really great time!! I appreciated the level of honesty, the quick turnaround, and the fair price that I paid. There are fancier looking shops around, but don't let that fool you. Sonny's was awesome and I will definitely be back!! read more

I would say you either love it or hate it. With Sonny, you are not getting dealership service. If you need a job done and he is available, he can diagnose the problem and fix it for you. It's a one man shop. My old Subaru has been fixed a number of times by Sonny and it's 230K miles and still ticking. He has fixed a number of small and big issues like replacing the timing belt and the radiator assembly. It would have cost me an arm and a leg at a dealership. Recently my headlight isn't working and I took it to his shop. He was still on his phone when I parked, and he troubleshooted it while on the phone and just tighten my headlamp and it worked. He just smiled and waived me goodbye while still on the other line. The whole process took 5 minutes and without him saying one word to me :) He is good and kind is his own odd ways. When he gets busy he turns you away. He doesn't really have a schedule book. He is just a neighborhood mechanics that does a good job. I know I am paying for his skill as a mechanics and not for those suit and tie guys at the dealership. I am still taking my new Prius to Toyota :) If you have a newer vehicle and if you want ease of mind, go to the established shops or dealership, but if you have an older vehicle and on budget, see Sonny. I just called him up on Sat morning and he picked it up. He told me to go get an alignment at Costco for my Prius. He is just honest that way :) read more

If you have something simple and want a cheap cash deal and no receipt. Sonny might be able to help. If you have a tricky problem. He's not the guy. Took my Subaru Forester in 3 times for the same problem, $2700 and it's still not fixed. Sonny never took the time to listen to me or diagnose the issue. He just kept talking over me and fixed what he thought was the problem without any investigation. Repeated requests to have him put things in writing were ignored. read more

Did a timely and awesome job! Will be returning. Thanks Sonny! Car is running smooth!

Great family owned auto shop. Owner is really friendly and will always be my go to spot for quick oil changes, and for any type of repairs. Just have in mind that it is only staffed by 2 brothers. So make appointments because they are always booked. read more

We are fans for life! Sonny was helpful, kind and less than the dealer by 2/3 the amount. Plus he fixed our seat issue quickly. What a gem!

I went to Sonny for my Check Engine Light. He got my car in right away to take a look at it. He did the diagnostics test and then tightened a few things in my engine. I will be going back to him next time I have car trouble. Thank you for your honesty and great customer service! read more

I have been coming here for 3+ years and Sonny always gives amazing service. Quick and fair price for parts and labor. My car is pretty fickle and older and he always makes it work. I couldn't be more pleased. I called 4 places for an estimate on a 100k mile service for my Pontiac Vibe (that's really a Toyota matrix with a Pontiac badge) and Sonny's was the most reasonable by about 10%. He included everything the others said they were going to do less one small thing (that he said I didn't need), so the final bill was actually a little less than quoted. The work was done on time as well, I'm really happy. I will definitely be back. read more

Beware of this place. They will fix your car but break something else so you can spend more money there. I had a broken radiator replaced for $250 but they didn't even replace the upper and lower hoses. I found this out the hard way on my way home from work in traffic the upper hose exploded. I had to bring in the car again just to find out they only replaced the radiator. They went ahead to replace the upper hose but not the lower hose and even charged $80. When changing radiator, the upper and lower hoses should also be replaced. This place deserves no stars if yelp allows. read more
