They are always willing to help and they are flexible and accommodating. When my tire had low air pressure, they figured out a nail had punctured it and fixed it quickly and cheaply. My overpriced dealership was repairing the CMU on my infotainment system for free because of a bad signal that damaged the CMU, and while doing so said I needed a new battery. I decided to get a second opinion at Earl's Garage and I'm glad I did. They replaced my battery for $100 less. read more

I drive an '85 Toyota Corolla. Many shops won't even repair a car that old. The first time, he corrected an annoying problem with the car bucking when I tried to accelerate at freeway speed. Come to find out, it was nothing more than a partially blocked vacuum advance hose. Pat at Earl's knew more about my car than I could imagine. This place is AMAZING. My car had 2 cylinders that weren't working and another shop replaced the coils and spark plugs and called it a day. A week later, the issue came back. These people not only took my car in day of, but spent all day looking into what was wrong and kept me in the loop the entire time. One of the employees even showed me on a picture exactly what was wrong and spent 13 hours working on it until it ran perfectly. He even made me a list of services I will need in the future to keep my car running perfectly. These employees really know what they are doing and will go above and beyond your expectations! I will only take my car here for now on, especially since they have a deal for 3 oil changes (synthetic) it's only $109! 10/10, if you need a mechanic you gotta go here! read more

Took my car in at 1pm for a simple failed emissions waiver and was told it would be done within 30 minutes to an hour and that I'd be notified. 3 hours later I called in to check on my car and was greated by the younger brother who's tone is always automatically set to rude. "I'll call you right back". 45 minutes later I decide I should start waking to the garage as it takes me 20 minutes and they are closing in 30. I arrive only to be told they did nothing to my car but that I needed a part they didn't have and they wanted to keep it over night, past the limitations of my trip pernit. When I expressed frustration over this they guy said "whats your friggin problem man?" which is when I decided I was not dealing with them anymore. In the end I paid $114 for a waste of my time and waste of my trip permit, only to hear excuses and be yelled at. Avoid these people if you want honest, good work done and someone decent to deal with. These guys don't even deserve to scrape gum off my tires. read more

Earl's is now the one place I'll bring my car to get it checked out and fixed. Last week, the brakes on my miata went bad quickly. After bringing my car to 3 different places--and getting three different diagnosis, and three different estimates (University Mazda quoted me $700 to replace the rear calipers), a friend suggested Earl's. I called in and talked with one of the mechanics, who told me to bring it in that night and they'd look at in the morning. They were able to check the individual parts to see what was actually the problem. Tim called me before 9:30 the next morning, told me exactly what the problem was, and quoted me almost $300 less than University Mazda. Not only was the quote so much less expensive than the three other places I went to, but Earl's was able to get the parts the same day, and I got my car back that afternoon! All of the other places I took my car to had told me 2 or 3 days to get the parts and do the work--Earl's didn't even take one full day! I also asked for my seat belt buckle to be replaced, and although they weren't able to find the part in the same day (my car's a bit older and certain parts are really hard to find!) they promised to keep looking and to call me as soon as they found it. This is a story that does not flatter me, but definitely demonstrates that Earl's Garage is a place you should go when you need automotive (or even motorcycle) mechanic professionals. Earlier this week when it snowed, I was running behind schedule and knew I wouldn't make my bus in time to get to work when I needed to be there. So, I took a chance and rode my motorcycle. The first half of my commute was fine, but then the combination of slush on a slight downhill slope created a hazardous condition. My tires would not grip the road beneath me and I laid the bike down as gently as I could. Fortunately I was not seriously hurt, and the bike only sustained a broken spark plug wire. After stressing out about calling my wife and waking our 5 week old daughter versus leaving the bike and riding the next bus that came along, I decided to walk over to the two repair garages I saw on the other side of 15th Ave. First, I walked into Harvey's auto service, but after waiting to talk to someone, they quickly dismissed the possibility that a spark-plug wire could be repaired. So I left and walked next door to Earl's. Not only were the guys at Earl's sure that my spark plug wire could be repaired, a mechanic walked with me back to my bike with an assortment of fitting and tools, and performed the repair for me. They were both very friendly to deal with and the price was very reasonable. I am grateful for their help and highly recommend Earl's Garage. read more

Was in a bind to get my brakes done and they were able to get me in and out the next day. It's been about a week since the work was done and everything has been running smoothly since. I had done a bunch of estimates at other local shops and Earl's was close to the same price as everyone else's (and far less than some). Add in the fact that they could get us in the shop quicker and the location was closer to home, and one of the other shops recommended them when he couldn't get me in quick enough, and you've got a recipe for success. When I went in to pick up the car they even replaced our brake lights at no extra charge besides the cost of the bulb since it only took an extra couple of minutes to change them out. Can't say much about a more complex job, but I'm happy with the work they did on the brakes and how quickly we were able to get it all finished up and get back on the road. They were fast and friendly, so I'd definitely give them a shot at any other things that might arise with my car. read more

I honestly can't recommend Earl's Garage enough. I've been going there mostly for oil changes since I moved to Shoreline in ~2013. They are reliable and honest. I did take my car to the Toyota dealer for my last oil change as I had a coupon and I do like the charts they give, and Toyota recommended changing my front brake pads as they were on the bottom of the yellow range. So I took my car to Earl's to get their opinion and they just called me up saying that they would wait to change the brakes, they were at 30-40% and would be fine until my next oil change. Dont go here !! we received a quote from a dealer that was several hundreds less for the same repairs. We took our well loved trusty Toyota here for an oil leak and the check engine that came on from our road trip to yellow stone. I figured Replace the gasket and we'd be good to go.......Well 2 days later they call me back with a laundry list of repairs that need to be done over $2000.00 !! I politely asked if I could come down and have a mechanic explain why all this was necessary. I get there and have to wait 30 minutes and then they proceed to explain the dire nature of our Toyota $850 to fix the oil leak(none of which included the engine light ?) I again politely ask for keys. They hand me a bill for $85 + tax and my keys. I ask can get the written estimate ? Earls-why would you need that ? Me- I should get something for my $85 bucks. another 20 minutes this guy returns with a hand written estimate. Me-what about the engine light ? Earls- we'd have to use our other machine and its located in the other building and is harder to hook up to your car. Never again ....I took it to a dealer and they were much cheaper...ultimately we found a shop in South Seattle that fixed the oil leak for $150.00 + tax-- no charge to check the engine light O2 sensor Unbelievable. read more

Just wanted to report on a bad clutch replacement that Earl's did for my wife's car a few years ago. After they replaced it, the car would shudder when shifting between lower gears. When my wife took it back to them, they said they couldn't notice anything, and insinuated that she didn't know how to drive her stick shift. Well, sure enough, the clutch went out prematurely, and after having it replaced by a different shop, the shudder is gone. I used them several times for easier repairs, and they're good for that, but I definitely would not give them anything complicated. read more

I've been taking my auto service needs to Earl's for years, and I've never had any complaint about the service. These guy know what they're doing, they've been consistently courteous and helpful and they've been very much instrumental in keeping my Geo Metro running for twenty-four years. Yes..I said twenty-four years. :) I just purchased a 2007 VW Rabbit. I wanted them to vet the car for possibly neglected maintenance as well as a rough engine performance issue, and they took care of it within the time frame they specified and at a price well within the quoted amount. As always, they explained their findings to me and guaranteed their work. They have always done that and I'll never take my car to anyone else. Their lot is always crowded which shows me they have loyal customers who are willing to wait just a bit for the quality service. I don't understand where the negative reviews came from. All I can say is that I've never had an issue with Earl's or any of their staff and that they remind me of the time when you could depend on your neighborhood mechanic to deal honestly and as quickly as possible with whatever car problems you have. There are hardly any mechanics in the area willing to look at my little 1988 LeSharo. It is a Renault based vehicle which is hard to find parts for! They have had my RV in the shop twice in the last 5 years. Both times they had hard to figure out problems to solve which they did wonderfuly. Like Sally, I too failed an emissions test and Earl's was on the list of approved emissions specialists, so after driving by this place for over 10 years, I finally got a chance to stop by. Everyone in here was super nice and explained everything that was going on. They fixed the issue and told me to drive it around a couple days and come back and they'd make sure everything was still ok. I didn't even pay anything yet, but the fact that they trusted me to come back says something about the people here. I came back, got everything squared away (actually didn't even charge me because they said they didn't have to spend much time on it) and went to get my emission tested again. When I got there, the emissions guy asked me a couple questions, and I told him about my experience at earl's and he responded, " oh they know what they are doing, most mechanics don't tell their customers to return to get it reset and end up failing again" Will definitely recommend this place!! read more

I stumbled on this garage when I first arrived in Seattle a year ago. We moved here from England and were quite worried about being ripped off as we had been before. We also have a car that is, to put it nicely, a moving wreck. We have received nothing but amazing service and not once have I ever felt like they were trying to make money off of us. We weren't treated any differently because of the state of our car, and believe me, I wouldn't be surprised if we were! We even took our RV here - and they gave us 3 different options for repair at different rates, understanding that we were on a limited budget. Just yesterday they stayed behind after they closed so we could collect the car after repair. We didn't feel rushed and he took the time to show us how to jimmy our sticky key. What can I say. Called Earl's Garage to replace water pump, thermostat, idler arm and belt tensioner. Car wasn't even running at arrival. We brought it in two hours later than I said we would be there as it conked out on the way and had to wait for tow. Already had the estimate and so we knew what it would be up front. As we were leaving, Tim asked us if tomorrow would be o.k. for pick up. What could I say, I expected to see it in two or three days, so of course I said sure. Picked it up next day and it was perfect and the charges were less than the estimate. Can't beat that. I'm now a customer for life. read more
