So I heard about this place from Reddit as well as Facebook and they gave me the best quote over the phone before bringing my car in ($400) My concerns were needing an oil change and wanting my spacers taken off so that I didn't keep rubbing Everything seemed fine, but then they called me about 12 or 1pm and said that my lug bolts were broken and would need to be replaced and that I need new front brakes so they could also do those. I don't really have a choice about the lug bolts but he said he could just not charge for the labor for those if he's doing the brakes so I agreed We were now looking at about $700 They call me around 3ish maybe 4 and then they tell me they went to put my wheels on and realized the lug pattern didn't match my car and that they then realized that my spacers were actually wheel adjusters and that they had to be on in order to put the wheels on. So unfortunately they don't have smaller ones and they will have to put them back on So, the whole reason I came here was for the spacers. When they were taken off is when I'm assuming those lug bolts were broken, which is whatever. But once they were taken off, I'm wondering how nobody noticed that they weren't just spacers, especially being that this place has been around a long time and they seemed to have experienced mechanics. I also approved new pads, not new rotors, they threw those in there for over $200 plus the $70 for the pads, so maybe this is just their protocol but it would've been nice to have this explained. By the time I came to get my car, my bill was over $1000 but all I really ended up getting was an oil change and brakes. The rest was a waste of time On my way to my step mom's house, I noticed on the freeway, that not only was my car a lot more shaky, I felt scared so I pulled over, and it turns out that they rotated my tires, but my back rims have a bend on them, which is something I explained to them that the Toyota service department wouldn't do because they don't want the bent rim to be in the front and risk blowing while I'm on the freeway. So these people disregarded that. Not a huge deal, but just something I feel like was ignored Then on my way back from my step moms, I noticed that every time I was braking, my whole steering wheel was wobbling back and forth and there was smoke coming from what seemed to be my front tire area. I pulled over and I realized my brakes were smoking like crazy! I know there's a seal put on them before the box, so maybe that's why? Maybe it was melting so the pads were sticking? I got back in after 15 mins of cooling down and then tried to brake again and it was still happening. I needed to get home I was exhausted so I decided to just keep going . I ended up having to slam on my brakes (traffic) and then all of a sudden it was back to normal. However, then I started hearing a clicking noise. This noise has now happened all weekend but not consistently. I checked to make sure there's no nails or rocks in my tires, and there's not, so I called today (Monday) to let them know, and I will be bringing my car in tomorrow morning. Overall, I do not plan to return here, would not recommend this place, and feel like they saw the opportunity to rack up a bill because I'm a girl. Please take your $$ elsewhere. read more

I am going to describe what happened, then tell you my side of the story, and let you be the judge of this shop. What happened: I scheduled a service for a thermostat replacement on 2013 BMW 335i. I was given a quote on the phone and was told that they only use OEM parts. The price of the parts was about 20% higher than the market price. When I picked up the car, they charged me about an extra $125 from the quoted part price (double). They said part did not fit (male/female connector issue) and had to use a different one. Additionally, they added about $25 in shop fees that was not part of the quote. The next day (Friday) I took the car back because the hood did not open after I picked up the car from them and asked to be checked. I got a call an hour later and was told that after an hour of work "diagnostic" they found out the hood latch wire was broken or something and they will order a new one from the dealership. I was given a new quote for the repair of $576 (including 25% discount) and told that I can't pick it up until Monday. They confirmed that the hood was functioning with no issues the day before (when they had that car), and yet still insisted that I broke it overnight. I asked if I could decline the repair and take my car. They said I will still get charged, because they already performed most of the work and they need to put everything back together. My review: They are not upfront about their prices and will look for any opportunity to make money off you. I don't understand how the part price changed significantly. They charge very high hourly labor (about $200) as if they were a professional shop, but it seems like they don't know how to fix things, because they charged three hours for a simple repair that can be done in an hour or less, like repairing the hood latch/wire they broke. They didn't use OEM coolant, and they filled my car with a cheap coolant that they triple charged me for after they mislead me to believe that they will use OEM coolant or better. I was forced to fix the hood at their shop as they performed the work and bill me without authorization as they told me that I will have to pay whether they repair it or not. read more

This is not your average mechanic shop. They actually care. The owner Ben and his staff go above and beyond to take care of their customers. This shop is honest and will not try to cheat you out of anything. They tell you exactly what's going on with your car. Ben and his team spent a lot of time investigating my car issue and because of some special issues Ben coordinated with the Honda service center to get an accurate diagnosis. I was able to return to Ben and get my car to function properly. I am a struggling single mom of 7, of which 2 have special needs and I can not thank him enough for helping me in my time of need. So, first off, these guys are amazing! They are approachable, communicative, and straightforward. When you ask a question, they don't try to mansplain - which is refreshing. I typically take my car to the dealership for all repairs, but the advisor I had was not getting back to me and I would not be able to get in until the end of March - per the scheduler. Brakes don't wait that long! My friend has gone to these guys for quite a while and highly recommended them. So, I decided to give them a try. Of course, as is my luck these last few months, it was not an easy, in and out job. They had to look for the right rotors - or rotors that would work - because the manufacturer does not make the rotors that fit my vehicle anymore. Also, what started out to be just rear brakes, turned into rear AND front brakes. BUT, they kept me informed with every change and addition along the way and did not proceed until I gave them approval. One thing I really appreciated is that they brought out the rotors, the old and the new one to show me the difference between what I had and what the manufacturer makes now, and it definitely is very different. They also showed me why the front rotors needed to be replaced and the grooves that were making that awful grinding and squealing noise. To me that shows incredible integrity and trustworthiness. I have not had any mechanic do that since the early to mid-eighties, when I would go to our family's mechanic with my dad - it brought back great memories. This may sound odd, but the moment I walked in, I felt comfortable, and you know that smell when you walk into a garage? It was there and it took me back to when I would work on cars with my dad and uncles. I immediately felt that I could trust them. It was nice to see that when other customers walked in to either drop off or pick up their vehicle, they greeted them by their names when they walked in - it was like a family atmosphere. It was great to see that, especially in a world that is so inundated with social media, texting and not as much personal interaction or conversation. I will also say that their prices are very reasonable, and they break down everything on the invoice/receipt you get. I asked them for a quote on my 60,000 service and it was less than 1/3 of the quote I got from the dealership - and they explained what the price would be based on the manufacturer's recommendations. They also suggested what they would do at that time that is usually done at 100,000 and why they would do it, based on their experience. It is that type of transparency that you do not find very often. I live in North Seattle but will most definitely be going to them in the future. The little bit of extra drive will be worth it. If anyone made it this far in the review, you have probably guessed that I highly recommend them - they know what they are doing and will treat you right! As someone that also works on his own cars and is relatively mechanically inclined, Ben and his team at Automotive Unlimited is simply incredible. I've also done work at auto shops out east before, and this shop is an exemplar of what an auto shop should be. I came through the area on a 6 week 10000 miles road trip back to East Coast and developed a wheel bearing noise when turning. VERY lucky to have found Ben and his shop, which managed to fit me into their extremely busy schedule to get me back on the road ASAP. There are a few things we as the customer really want from a mechanic/shop: 1. Honesty and fair pricing. Which Ben does VERY well. Easily less than half of what another shop had quoted me in just labor cost. 2. Quality of work. They took their time to diagnose my issue and inspected the car to pinpoint the issue. This is important because you never want to just throw money at the car by guessing the cause. You want to gather as much supporting evidence as possible, replace/fix that suspected part, then recheck. Lets just say Ben went above and beyond. He took better care/attention of my car than I probably ever would... as if my car is his baby 3. Customer service. They spent so much time explaining the problems to me in great detail, I'm genuinely shocked. Remember, I'm only passing by, so I am unlikely to be a return customer or be able to refer local customers to them, yet they took so much time explaining to me the cause and problem. They even showed me the worn out part and made the best course of action recommendations to me when they honestly had no obligations to. Transparency is very important so you know you're not getting rip off. I don't live in the area, otherwise, I know exactly where I would go next time I need a mechanic. If you're in the area-ish, this is the place you want to be. At the very least, you need to give them a call before anything else. read more

I emailed a handful of state authorized emissions repair shops on a Sunday through Yelp. Two hours later, the owner of Automotive Unlimited, Benjamin, responded to me on his only day off. After a few emails back and forth, I had an appointment set up for 48 hours later. When I arrived, the entire staff was busy with vehicles in every bay. The shop was clean and organized, mechanics were smiling and friendly to me and to one another. The waiting room felt more like sitting in a friend's living room, watching a big screen TV. In the hour and a half I was there, I received four updates on the status of the diagnostics being done. I had the pleasure of overhearing Benjamin call several customers to inform them of diagnostic results and discuss repair options that would fit their budgets and schedules. Each call sounded as though he was chatting with a long-time friend. I witnessed an employee honestly tell a walk-in customer that it would be quicker and probably less expensive to go to elsewhere for an oil change, and also suggested a place he trusts to them! Benjamin clearly leads his staff by example, treating employees and customers alike with utmost respect. While I'm not thrilled at $1,500 in repairs, I do feel confident that only necessary repairs will be made without padding the bill with insane price markups, or a bunch of bogus charges. I don't mind paying honest people to do that which I cannot, helping them to provide for their families. I even had the pleasure of briefly meeting an employee's son, and deeply respect that he was welcomed into the garage to be with his dad after school rather than in a childcare center, at home alone, or out and about getting into trouble with his friends. read more

Exceeded my expectations. My car (VW EOS) wouldn't turn off, with the key stuck in the ignition. (I had to remove the fuel pump fuse and disconnect the battery to turn it off.) Most shops wouldn't do a repair for the ignition lock cylinder and suggested I needed to take my car to the dealer. But the dealer wanted $175 for the diagnostic, and yet couldn't tell me what they did to diagnose the issue; plus, getting an estimate was like pulling teeth; and various mishaps/miscommunications/sloppiness left me too nervous to leave my car there. Fortunately, I found this shop, which could do the repair and seemed knowledgeable about what the repair entailed. Their estimate was slightly less than the dealer; final cost was slightly less than the estimate; but most importantly, I had confidence they could do the job. Very pleased with the responsiveness in communication. Initially they were scheduled out over a week; but surendipitiously had a cancellation and were able to get me in that day. The ignition lock cylinder itself is a two week lead time, nonrefundable part per my VIN; the ignition lock cylinder housing/steering lock is a stock part. They were able to remove the whole assembly and salvage the ignition lock cylinder part, just replacing the ignition lock cylinder housing, which saved me going two weeks without my car. Unfortunately, I didn't not get the 5 star experience that so many other people have shared. I actually chose this place for first time repair based off of the other reviews here. While everyone was incredibly friendly, nice and explained things to me, I feel that the company is sorely lacking in communication. And I get it, they're busy. But there were several times where the owner said he "call me right back" or "call me back in a little bit" and he didn't. I would then call there, wondering what the status is, only to find out there was yet another thing going on with the car. As a customer, I think it's important to be informed. Especially as the day closes, and the shop closes. There were a couple of days that I didn't hear any status at the end of the day. Our car went in Tuesday morning for A/C repair and we didn't get it back until Friday afternoon. There seemed to be a lot of things that went wrong with the repair that were "out of the mechanics control". But, this started out as a quoted 3-hour repair. The owner offered me a freebie part in the middle of this saga (unfortunately, that still didn't end up fixing the problem), which I do appreciate (he mentioned this fact a lot so I want to make sure to address it here). But again, lack of communication was stressful and caused a lot of anxiety. Not having a car for that long was also pretty stressful. In the end, we spent over $1,000, didn't have a car for 4 days and still have a broken A/C system. Apparently, after 4 days they finally thought to inspect the original compressor and figured out that some kind of metal shavings blew inside the A/C system and told us that it'll cost upwards of $2k to "actually fix it". Another frustrating thing is that I wanted to pull the plug on the repair early on when there were issues and dollars were racking up, but was talked into continuing with it. In hindsight, I wish I'd just told them to put the broken A/C compressor back in our car and we'd just pay for the labor. The new part was expensive and it didn't ultimately fix the issue. read more

My first experience here was great! Very knowledgeable staff and I had a great time chatting with them while doing the documents during my pickup. When I first called to make an appointment they were open to installing shocks I had bought online (they aren't offered at any local dealers). They said it might take a day or two over the phone so a drop off would be required, I understand since this is a very long job. 5-6 hours later the same day they called me before they closed saying they were ready! Very fast service. They really try to get your car back to you the customer as soon as they can. I am very satisfied with my experience here. I tried to install the shocks myself but decided to pay someone professional to do the work (the front end arms are very heavy in this truck and hard to work around single handed). My 2020 ranger looks great and the work performed was flawless. I can't thank these guys enough. read more

I brought my vehicle in for a specific problem since I had it checked at the dealership first . I told automotive unlimited exactly what was needed to be done to the front differential according to the dealership. When I received my vehicle back according to the them ( on paper) they did the back instead of the front. My vehicle still does the same as when I first brought it in to Unlimited.Unlimited had gave me a story that it was my alignment and tires . I immediately took vehicle to 2 different tire places in which they said the alignment is fine . I have since went to several other shops including the dealer ship and they say the front differential needs the work . I have the same problem as when I told unlimited in the 1st place. I believe unlimited had done the wrong job on my vehicle by doing the back instead ( front differential of what I asked for in the beginning. When I brought my vehicle back to tell them what happen they insisted the back side needed the work .Unlimited gave me a story . Along with all this , my vehicle was parked out side by unlimited without my permission and some body drilled a hole in my gas tank ,which I had to pay for . While Unlimited was waiting on parts. Unlimited use to be a very a honest company with excellent workmen quality in the beginning . If unlimited had done what was told to do in the first place ( the front differential and not the back )my vehicle would have been fixed properly and not wasted my money. I still have the same problem as I did when I brought the vehicle in on day one . I would not recommend them anymore to any one . If they made a mistake and did the back instead of front and confessed to the error then I would say they are honest but to give me a story of feathering and all I need is an alignment etc This all is proven that is not true. read more

I was experiencing transmission issues with my Silverado, after taking to the Chevy dealership and being told it would be possibly a month or more for a replacement, I decided to have automotive unlimited take a look, they where able to diagnose the issue, replace the transmission with a new one and have me back on the road in less than a week with a better warranty than the dealership was able to offer.
