Emily's Garage is one of the Seattle city-approved vehicle safety inspection mechanics.  They offer ASE-certified TNC inspections, pre-buyer inspections, diagnostic services, and general car inspections.  They have three locations - Everett, Tacoma, and Burien. For the vehicle safety inspection, I didn't have to make an appointment.  It was fine to do a walk-in. When I visited Emily's Garage, there was a customer who was pretty upset with the repairs and the cost.  I was able to hear what the customer had to go through but I would not comment on that as I have limited information. From my experience of getting my vehicle inspected, I was very surprised at how quickly they were able to complete the vehicle inspection.  It was done in less than 2 minutes, and I paid over $50 for that service.   For comparison, when I had my vehicle inspected at Les Schwab Tire Centers in Portland, they spent over 20 minutes to thoroughly inspect the vehicle and the cost for the inspection was only $20.   Will I re-visit Emily's Garage for the vehicle inspection?  Probably not but if the state requires me to get the vehicle inspection done, I will probably have no choice as there are not that many shops that offer the ASE-certified inspection. read more

I had both calipers replaced here about a year ago and recently noticed that one side has rusted while the other hasn't. I called to ask about my options and was told the diagnostic fee is $180 per hour. Before I could ask anything about warranty or other concerns, the call was abruptly ended without any explanation. I tried calling back thinking it might have been unintentional, but no one answered and never received a call back. This is a great little shop. While visiting from CA, I wanted to get the oil changed in my daughter's Kia Sol. Noelle quoted me a reasonable price over the phone and fit me in right away. Mike gave me info on a check engine issue, suggesting it be looked at in the future. No sales pressure, which was nice. I was very happy with the service. I'm hoping to move to the area and will be back if so. As an aside; I expected to see women working there (they emphasize they are female-owned), but there was only one, at the front desk. When I asked about it, I was told there aren't many women who are mechanically inclined. Wrong answer! I hope they make the effort to recruit female mechanics in the future; it would be well worth the effort! read more

I have gone to the Everett location like four times to do uber annual inspection and the woman at the counter always seem angry and aggressive, I thought she was the owner and she felt like she is doing uber drivers a favor, however I think she sees uber drivers below her. I will gladly tell her or anyone never to look down on drivers they are making good money anywhere from $300-600 a day and are investing their money in their own business. last year she said I will soon need new tires and I still have the same tires and they passed but she failed it and said seatbelt did not retract fast enough, had it fixed and returned and they failed again saying when it is empty and in resting mode it is not tight enough. Absolutely saved our bacon. On a long road trip from Minnesota to Seattle via Canada to see our kids the car developed a hum and vibration. Stopped at one mechanic who didn't even look at the car and declared "tire noise." Somewhere in the middle of nowhere, Alberta the sound kept getting worse. Popped into Emily's, and they immediately helped us. Took the car for a drive and put it up on the rack, and found the issue being the rear bearings. What made it special was how they explained things. I'm pretty technical (Navy Engineering) but my wife is not. They didn't "bro-splain" it to me or "man-splain" it to my wife. Clear, understandable, not condescending and more than happy to answer my deeper questions. Ordered the parts at 4pm and now it's 9am and they're fixing my car and getting us on our way. Told them it was a diesel and they call me 40 minutes my actual appt to tell me they don't have the proper oil but they can order it but the cost will be significantly higher. Scumbags. My son took his car to them for a simple repair, and paid them in full in advance. Big mistake. They said a required part was on national backorder, then moved his car from Everett, where we live, to Burien. They kept his car for weeks, with worsening communication, with their office person promising to contact the owner to would call him and give updates, then never doing so, and finally just ignoring his calls. Entirely. All while his car sat in Burien, over 50 miles away. After a month of no car/no answers, we finally reached them and asked the car to be towed to our house. They agreed, and returned the car disassembled and missing parts, but the worst problem was a deep gash in the edge of the door. Barnabas and Emily both came to our house, bringing some, but not all of the parts. They admitted the gash had not been there when my son took the car to them. They blamed their tow truck driver but agreed it was their responsibility and promised to get reimbursement for repairs. They also promised to reimburse my son for the labor charges (we agreed they should be paid for the parts). After they left, they simply disappeared--never paid what they owe, and have since ignored his requests for the money they promised to pay. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THESE PEOPLE. Had to conduct a tnc reinspect because of a mistake made when checking my rotors and brakes

I took my car to Emily's for a transmission checkup today 10-19-23 because the service department at Kendal Subaru stated my Crosstrek/Hybrid transmission is no good and that I needed a new replacement. At Emily's, the master mechanic reviewed the transmission and reported the fluid had been recently replaced. Moreover, the car was checked for code P0B0B that could not be located in the car's computer as it was the focus of my concern when the check engine light came on in September. The master mechanic at Emily's reported no concern about the transmission needing additional service. I strongly advice you to pay Emily's Garage a visit for an honest car service. Emily's Garage embodies true professionalism and I am so happy I decided to have my car serviced here. A little background- I was having issues with my 2016 Nissan Sentra's brakes, took it to the dealership, and was left paying with no resolution. After 2 weeks of dealing with brake noise, I started looking up auto body shops nearby and requesting quotes. Mike from Emily's Garage was one of the first people to respond and assured me the inspection was free. Well, that already was better than the Nissan Dealership in Everett that previously did not address my problem. I called them on Wednesday, September 16 and Katie (I hope I got the name correct) was incredibly friendly and very accommodating. She was able to schedule me in for the following day. When I arrived, the auto body repairman (I can't recall his name, but it said Mike on the receipt) did an impeccable job at explaining to me the inspection process. He disassembled my tires and brake drums to show me the culprit of my issue- dust buildup in my back brakes, which were also loose. Since my engine checklight was on as well, he checked the throttle and was able to determine the car was safe to drive and there was no pressing issue. I really appreciated his thoroughness and his knowledge. It made for a great experience. As soon as I drove off, I noticed the noise was gone, braking was smooth and lighter, and when I parked I did not have to pull my parking brake as far up anymore. Overall, great experience and way better than the service I received at the dealership. All of this cost me $20 pre-tax. I highly recommend this auto shop. read more

I've been looking for a new mechanic after my last mechanic became increasingly unavailable due to increased fleet work (good for him! bad for me.), especially after I moved and I no longer lived one block away. Emily's Garage helped me with my car's non-functional AC system -- it turns out I just needed a refrigerant recharge! The mechanic who did the work put my car under a vacuum test to verify the integrity of the system, and it passed, but advised me of things to watch out for over the next few months to make sure there isn't an undetected leak. What I really liked about the experience with Emily's Garage is that their prices are upfront and even posted on their website for most typical jobs. Obviously there's going to be some variance for each specific situation, but it gives me an idea of what to expect: is this a repair in the low hundreds, high hundreds, thousands??? With most mechanics I've dealt with over the years, you have no idea what to expect until after the diagnostic. Emily's is different, but in the best way. The mechanic looked at my vehicle and, instead of just taking my money, he actually told me that I did not need any service. He let me know about some repairs that I would be needing in the future, and otherwise sent me home without charging a dime. He also gave me advice about how I could avoid needing repairs sooner. When I went to ask her if she had time to get my car inspected she yelled at me very rudely. She said "don't disturb me I'm with my customer" I don't know what she meant because I was also her customer but she yelled at me in front of all the other customers. I found it needed brakes all the way around and new rear bearings! Emily's Garage worked with me within my budget and time to take care of everything. Great experience. New management perhaps? Went in a year ago and whomever was running the joint was the very in your face overly friendly type. Made me think they were a little sketchy. Flash forward one year and my experience with Parker and the mechanic Mike was incredible. I had my rotors and shocks replaced which were in dire need. The best part though, I had my vehicle inspected by another shop and they were claiming I needed to have over $1,000 in repairs done and that did not even include the labor. These guys at Emily's inspected the issues and they found that most of what I was told was bs. I got out of there for around $450. According to further research, the price I would have paid at another place for the same repairs would have run around $800. The transparency was a welcome sight. I called and asked about an inspection for Lyft. I told the woman that I was a brand new driver and needed to know if I should print forms, or make an appointment etc. She was friendly and said they were not busy. When I got there, I got right in. As I sat in the waiting area, the mechanic came to me and said "it's not my responsibility to clean your car. I need you to put your seat up." He was saying this aggressively. I had my seat folded because I had a basket of CLEAN, neatly folded laundry there. I told him I could have folded my seat in the parking lot if I knew it was expected. His comeback was "Next time you can pay for a failed inspection." He spoke like a jerk to his female coworker at the desk as well. A customer was with me in the waiting area who also needed an inspection and he even commented that guy was a jerk. When his turn came, the mechanic asked for his keys and he said "oh, let me get my lunch bag out." The mechanic said "Don't worry, it's ok." The mechanic had tried to fold up my seat prior to asking me. He punched a hole through the Lyft paperwork that was sitting next to my basket of clothes, and he threw the clothes in the back seat so it fell over and most of it was on the floor. But the man with McDonalds wrappers on his seat was talked to in a different tone of voice. Considering I usually support women owned businesses, I strongly recommend Emily get rid of this guy and replace him with someone who is more respectful to women. I was so pissed I forgot to ask for my military discount - I just wanted to get away from him!!!!! I only gave the two stars because the price was ok. read more
