They also released it to her prior to it being paid out of the kindness of their hearts because they knew the Veteran relied on their vehicle. I know they probably were a little worried about payment but were super happy when I showed up the next day to pay. The gentleman at the front was very polite and professional. Marqueen is a friendly neighborhood garage/mechanic located in Upper Queen Anne Hill in little old brick one story. I've taken my Lexus to Marqueen on two occasions and found them to be very accommodating to my schedule, fair priced and honest. The first time my battery died so I had it towed there for a new battery. They replaced it with a good battery for a very fair price; it was just over $100. They didn't try to claim it was more than the battery, either, which is something I've unfortunately experienced with other mechanics. The next time, I brought it in for an oil change and to have them change the electronic locking mechanism on the trunk. When I returned to pick it up, they told me the trunk lock did not need replacing and charged me nothing for the time they put into making sure it would lock, but only for the oil change. I felt that was very honest since they also ordered the part the day before my appointment and could have just replaced it and charge me. The last time I told them I wouldn't be able to come before they closed and they told me they would still be there up to an hour after after closing and if I wanted to drop the car off then instead of first thing in the morning, they'd accommodate me. I appreciated that so much. They're my local garage now and I recommend them to anyone. read more

I will never take my car here again. Both times i went there and had them try to fix something with my car, they messed up. I had them try to fix my breaks and suspension and left with the car and then had to come back for them to do it again in less than a month. They ruined the breaks and suspension of that car. We recently got a used Jetta for my daughter to drive. Over the summer, we had Marqueen do some work on the brakes. They picked it up from our house and returned it to where it was parked in front of our house. Awesome service. We live just a few blocks away, but I was really thankful for that. Made things a lot easier for us. A few weeks later, my daughter thought the brakes were a little"weird". They felt great to me, but an expert opinion is better than Dad's. Also, the light for the engine service just came on, even though we just had an oil change a few weeks before. They checked it out, confirmed the brakes were good, reset the engine light with the special VW tool. I picked it up later in the day and they said it was fine. No charge at all. Really glad to have a local shop we can bring this car too that we trust. read more

Very happy with the performance of this shop. I had a problem with starting the car and maintaining the engine going, though it never stalled while this happening. Scott called me within one hour after I dropped off my Nissan Sentra. He identified the problem,he told me how much it was going to cost, tax included and gave me a time frame in when the car would be ready. By lunch time he called with everything ready to go. Marqueen did thorough, quality work on my Dodge RAM pickup. They replaced my upper & lower ball joints, rear brakes and radiator/thermostat/hoses. All was done with quality parts and done right. My only disappointment is price. Parts are marked up 90% over "retail" and resulting charges exceed those of the dealer. Very convenient location but at a hefty price. read more

I brought my car in for an oil change, and a check on my steering, which was making strange noises and feeling stiff. I also asked for an all-over inspection, as I was planning to sell my car soon. They diagnosed my steering issue as simply needing new steering fluid, which they replaced for me. The only other thing they noted was that I'd need new brakes soon (front and back both). I don't drive the car very often, but the steering noise and stiffness seemed to go away. Only a few months later, I took my car to a dealership for an unrelated issue. They found that my power steering was leaking pretty badly, and were surprised that a previous mechanic had missed the leak! Had I continued to drive with the leak, I could have soon needed an entirely new compressor ($$$$). The dealership also made no mention of my brakes - they were fine. Customer service and turnaround time were great, but I wouldn't trust them to correctly diagnose or fix anything! Too bad, because I really wanted to support this local business. read more

REVISED (9/14/2009).......Reducing my star rating from a 5 to a 1. I was mistaken in my initial review of Marqueen Garage that you will see below. I was really excited that I thought I finally found a mechanic I felt I could trust. I took my car in about 6 months ago and had some work done (see my original review below). I did mention in my old review of them that the car worked better than before...well, this was not entirely true. The vehicle was misfiring when it was cold and ran rough off the start (it got progressively worse). I finally brought it back to them a couple weeks back and one of the mechanics, was going to look at it for me and see what was up. I also asked him to investigate my heater which was not pumping out heat. I took the day off work to bring my car to them and about half way through the day, I got a call letting me know that they were not sure what was up, but a full tune up was in order. I was not interested in paying for a full tune up at the time so I asked if they could just work on the heater problem. The mechanic got really pissy with me on the phone at this point and explained he had already replaced the spark plugs and that the car was no longer misfiring (funny how once I told him I was not interested in the full tune up ($400) he told me it was fixed for the cost $120). So I got my old plugs put back in, unfortunately, and they were looking at the heater now. Got the call about the heater. He said everything seemed okay with the heater core and it is most likely that the cooling system needs to be flushed. I was a little suspicious that it would not be that easy. I did research online and talked to some other mechanics and there was consensus that if the heater is not pumping hot air, flushing the cooling system will not fix it. Well, I told him go ahead because he reassured me that it would fix it. So I got the call to come pick up my car as it was fixed. I was really pleased. He showed me the bill for flushing the cooling system. I asked if the heater problem was fixed, he said, "it works like a charm". (The way he said it now really annoys me since the problem was not fixed at all). So I pay, go to my car, test the heater, and same issue. I have the other mechanic there look at it and he agrees it does not work like a charm. So I say what gives? They say, "oh, just drive around a while and it should clear things up". Not the case. The problem persists. I called and talked to them about a refund, and the mechanic and owner, Kurt, both were very assertive about not giving me a refund and wanting me to come back in. Why would I feel comfortable bringing my car back in after all this? You know, when I got in my car to test the heater, the setting was where I had left it, all the way cold with the AC on. It is possible that he never even checked it out. I was so disappointed overall. I hope the $120 they got from me to flush the cooling system I didn't need flushed was worth losing one of their raving fans (I referred several close friends to them in the past). Use their services at your own risk. ORIGINAL PRAISE (Originally 5 star...) The folks at the Marqueen Garage are straight shooters. I have never felt so reassured when taking my car to a mechanic. They had an extremely fast turnaround given how busy their shop is (24 hours). The timing belt on my Camry went out and caused a lot of damage. My car runs better now than it did prior to taking it in and my experience overall felt great. I think they have very reasonable prices and extremely great talent at what they do. The shop is run with integrity and they are very transparent about the problems with your car and what it will take to fix. read more

Okay, mechanics are scary. Especially if you are a girl like me... who knows NOTHING about cars, or what "feels right" or "feels wrong" or, does the car really NEED a new transmission? Or is that optional? I've dealt with my fair share of mechanics. ALL of them have tried to pull the wool over my eyes. My most recent story: Went to go get my oil changed at "Oil Change Shop ABC" (cause it's close to my office) and they told me i need new brakes or my car may cause me to get in a wreck... and asked me if i wanted them to do them right then and there. i said i'd have to 'think about it' as the guy hard sells me even more. What i really meant was, 'i'm taking the car to Marqueen to see what's up." Low and behold, Nate at Marqueen said my brakes were perfect. That is the kind of place Marqueen is. A girl like me who knows nothing of cars can actually TRUST these guys. When something is wrong, they will fix it and not try to sell me anything else. They don't screw with their customers, cause the customer will find out. My car needed some stuff done to it last time and they had it fixed the SAME DAY i dropped it off. They even fixed something else wrong with it for me for the price of the part only, i think because Nate felt so bad for me for having such a piece of shit car (Hyundai Santa Fe). Basically, these guys rock. If you're looking for an honest, reliable, fast, affordable, and awesome mechanic, head here. Even if you're way up in Lynnwood or Tacoma. Let me first say that the owners and employees here are extremely nice. I don't think they're scammers, or bad people. They went so far as to loan me their personal vehicles so that I could get to work in West Seattle. They were friendly, and I think they tried to be honest. That said, I DO think they are VERY inexperienced and may have gotten in way over their heads on the repairs with my truck. Admittedly, I have an old vehicle. Old vehicles have problems. But after $3000 in repair work (only half of which I was expecting initially), I'm shocked, irritated and incredibly disappointed that my vehicle isn't in decent working order. My first experience with Marqueen was a couple months ago, when I went in for an oil change and basic checkup. The oil change was done promptly, and I was given a report on potential problems, one of which was an oil pan gasket leak that wasn't severe enough to need attention immediately (estimate: approximately $1200). A few weeks later, the clutch gave out. This clearly had nothing to do with the oil change, and I was happy with the service I had recieved so far, so I took my truck back to Marqueen. Since the clutch and oil gasket leak both required removal of the transmission, I opted to have both done at the same time to save on labor costs. After delays due to getting the vehicle apart due to rust (like I said, my vehicle is old, and was previously kept in Wisconsin, where we use salt on the roads in the winter), as well as delay in getting the part itself, a couple weeks later I was informed after a test drive that my vehicle was ready. I was told that it seemed as though the vehicle was shifting "quickly" - as in, shifting up to 4th or 5th gear when only going 25MPH or so. This is VERY odd. They told me that perhaps my vehicle was stuck in 4x4/low range. They told me that I could drive it without damage to my vehicle up to 45MPH. So I paid, and started to drive my vehicle home. Immediately I could tell that the vehicle was stuck in 4x4/low range, and that it could NOT be driven as it was. Suddenly the 4x4/low range lights came on in sync and without my assistance. The Ford manual (and anyone who knows anything about 4x4/low range vehicles) advises against driving above 10MPH in low range, unless you'd like to risk IRREPARABLE engine damage. So I turned around (with the truck groaning and complaining the whole time) and headed back to the garage. I was then told that they'd need to take another look at the vehicle while I left it there, and that they'd let me know when they found the problem. Huh. Okay. Next day, I get a call that they think there is mechanical failure in the 4x4/low range transmission exchange, and that it probably needs replacing (another $1500 repair). At this point, I'm in shock, and immediately call another shop (whose owner happens to be a friend of my boss) as well as my dad (the previous owner of the vehicle) for advice. The owner of the other shop confirmed said that the estimate seemed a little low, especially as they had quoted me a few hundred less if I paid immediately, in cash. Shady? Against my better judgement, and because I was feeling at their mercy at this point (and probably also because they had told me that I could work out a payment plan with them), I told them to go ahead with the repair. While this repair was done in good time, and they did only charge me the quoted price, I drove roughly 10 miles before the check engine light came on, and I experienced significant power loss. While the check engine light did eventually go off in about 5 miles, and the sluggishness seems to have diminished, the gas mileage is significantly lowered, and I suspect the O2 sensors that they said they salvaged during the initial repair were damaged. But I will be taking it to another shop entirely to find out, because my patience has run out. Basically, if you're looking for an oil change or a very basic repair, I'd recommend Marqueen Garage. If you're looking for more extensive work, I'd keep shopping around. read more

I had to divorce our mechanic on Capitol Hill after twenty years because I ended up begging for an appointment. We were some of their oldest customers and had send many people there but it was getting silly to the point of ridiculous to have to call back to pay them to see to our vehicles. Marqueen had checked out a used car for us when Kurt owned it and he was a terrific guy and really helped us out. Now it's new ownership but wholly as reliable. We called our old mechanic when we were going to buy a new used rig this summer and he was going to charge us $100 to have it checked out plus additional for a compression check. We called Marqueen and they said $90 for the whole deal. When he checked it out he only charged $40 it was only four years old and in pretty good shape. What a great way to convince us they were our new mechanics. We have a Toyota and a Volks and they do well by both. Straight up crew. What a pleasant thing to talk to the front office and have her say "when would you like to bring it in?" instead of begging for them to make time and having to call back for an appointment. Get a good doctor, a good dentist, a good accountant and a good mechanic and hey you are set! read more

Great people! My wife's car died at a Trader Joe's nearby. I wasn't sure it was a battery issue so I called for tow truck service. The tow truck company said a ~90 min ETA and I waited for more than 4 hours but the truck never showed up. I went to Marqueen, asked to borrow their battery jump starter, and I was able to start the car and drove it to the shop. Took them less than 10 mins to replace the battery. read more

I took my car to Marqueen to get an estimate on my brakes (Brakes were squeaking and I needed new brake pads, which I knew). They told me I would need to replace both brake pads and both rotors at a total of $1100. As it is very rare that both back and front rotors need replacement at the same time, I took my car to the dealership and another garage, who gave me much lower estimates ($300 range) and notified me that ONLY the front brake pads needed replacing, and Marqueen was intentionally trying to upsell me their rotors. I'm not that ignorant when it comes to basic car maintenance. Incredibly inconsiderate and will never be taking my car here again. read more

The work was done on time, under estimate. When my wife dropped by with a question on our other car, he did a little tweek and sent her away, no charge. I took it into these guys, and they were very nice and patient and explained exactly what the "friend of a friend" did wrong. They fixed it all right, and the bill wasn't NEARLY as scary as I was afraid. They're very neat and clean, don't "talk down" to women, and the don't have that "BS" factor you run into at car dealerships. read more

I've been a customer for 12 years. I've always had great service first on our two Toyotas, and more recently on our Volvos. Nate and his crew are friendly, knowledgeable, and honest. They just repaired the muffler and tailpipe of our 98 Camry (now our daughter's) after it was rear-ended. Gave great advice, great fast service. The only downside is that they are so busy, there sometimes is a bit of a wait for non-urgent repairs. But they are busy because they are good! read more

While there, they discovered that my old tires were near bald, and quickly ordered me some new ones customized for my snow needs!
