Tll:dr used this shop for years but eventually left because they attempted to sell me a very expensive fix I didn't need and refused to fix a mistake they'd made. UPDATE: The new manager called after this review and could not have been nicer. He said he had been there a month and he also admitted that there were issues with the staff at that time of our last visit. He fully apologized for the experience and promised things were different now. I appreciated the gesture and would be very interested in trying this shop out again to confirm. Long story. Brought the car in for a creaking noise. Assumed it was the suspension. The car was from a salt province in Canada so we've had problems with it before. They agreed with the issue and replaced part of the suspension. They said the other half was too corroded to fix. Drove it for a couple days and the noise came back. Called in and Dylan said to listen to it for a week then bring it back. Listened to it for a week, then called again. Kai said it was a new unrelated issue and we needed to bring it in. Brought it in. They came back and said it wasn't the suspension that was making that noise. It was the engine mount. That it would fail immeniently and it was a danger to drive. They said the noise had stopped momentarily because they had "oiled the joint". They wanted an addiitional $1400.. I asked about the suspension and they said there was no chance it was that. I refused service, collected the car, and took it to the Mazda dealership. Mazda looked it over and said the suspension hadn't been tightened properly. Engine mount was fine. Called 34th street to tell them and they told me I was wrong. That was almost a year ago. Car is fine. No issues with the engine mount. No noise since Mazda tightened somethings. Called 34th let them know. They called me a liar. They'd always been pushy about extra maintenance, but usually backed down when i said no. This was the first time they drew a line in the sand like that. read more

I would not recommend 34th Garage for three primary reasons: 1) Unethical management: I bought a used Toyota RAV4 from the company and was verbally guaranteed lifetime oil changes. The company was sold and the new management unethically refused to honor the commitment, even though one of the employees there (Kai) had full knowledge of the agreement. I get an oil change about once per year, so this really disappointed me. 2) Relatively high prices: I was able to get a quote for an oil change from Valvoline (done in 15 minutes) for $15 less than they quoted. 34th Street Garage was approximately the same as the dealership prices! 3) Prior Price Gouging Attempt: 34th Street once quoted me $7,000 to repair a broken Jeep Wrangler differential. I got a second opinion and able to get it fixed for $2,500 at a reputable garage. BEWARE! I would strongly recommend avoid read more

I'm not really sure how to grade this company as Kai had been very fair to me in the past and had done a fair job at keeping my cars running smoothly but not without constant maintenance and repairs. Then the new management purchased 34th from Gene and it went from the face of a local mom and pops shop succumbed to the greed of treating once garnered customers as a cash register. I had a rear end service completed on a 2018 F150 last year and then it leaked due to the non-OEM replacement bolts and wrong silicone used. I had a Ford dealer replace the equipment to OEM standards and at a cost to me of over $900 I asked Kai and he set me up with the warrantee process however the company said they would have covered the cost but 34Th hadn't paid for the warrantee service yet. Kai fed it up to senior management Dylan Heckett who refused to honor that agreement. Had I brought it back to 34Th they would have taken care of it however when it's in another shop 60 miles away and torn down the difficulty is to transport. I believe they have the warrantee in place now so that's great as long as they have paid the premiums. if i could give a - grade I would like said before Kai has always been fair its when Gene sold is when I felt like the cash register and won't be going back. read more

It's always confusing when you see so many 5 star ratings and then a bunch of 1 star ratings. I guess that's always the case in the world of online reviews. But, here's my concern regarding 34th Street Garage. It's all about safety. I took my car in for a tire change. All 4 needed to be replaced. Only one had a puncture (they told me) and it couldn't be repaired. With my vehicle, you can't replace just one tire. You have to replace them all. They ordered and mounted all four tires. In the process of doing so, they significantly damaged all four of my wheels. When I asked what happened, they said they know they need a new tire changing machine because the one they have is old and seems to damage wheels. I had my wheels repaired for over a thousand dollars and the garage reimbursed me for half. That was a good thing. Thank you! But, what if they repaired my brakes and had a similar known issue with their equipment? Now we have a potential safety issue. Just be careful if you decide to take your vehicle to 34th Street Garage. Btw - I had another punctured tire recently. I took it to Les Schwab and they fixed it for free. Communication, service, time, and quality. This shop has been amazing ever since my car was dropped off at 2-3am (they offer after hours drop off). I bought my car and only after 2 weeks of owning it my engine blew up, and this was after taking it to a Hyundai dealership (same brand as my car) and they told me my exhaust was making my engine overheat, that is the dumbest thing I have ever heard anyone say. Ended up leaving there and taking my car to 34th st garage and they did an inspection of my vehicle and did a very thorough job! And even better, before they started any work, they decided what they needed to do and asked me first before proceeding with anything that would cost me money, they sent me both a email, text message, and voicemail on both phone numbers I provided asking to proceed, aswell as being upfront with the cost of the work they needed to do in order to completely see all the damage. They sent a link listing all the work they needed authorization for with price included for each thing. Very easy to read/access and they have been 100% transparent about EVERYTHING. Kai was super awesome even bringing up an issue about the car that was unrelated and making me aware of it. Have not been pushed,lied to or even upsold on anything or been asked to do anything unnecessary. They are the most legit garage I've ever experienced. I had a mishap with my car that trashed the plastic plate covering the undercarriage, dislodged a puffy plastic bag-like part over the front left tire, and slightly misaligned the driver's side fender. The friendly guys at 34th Street Garage did a stem to stern inspection that determined that my car was miraculously unscathed. They replaced the damaged undercarriage cover, but the best part is that they also did the minor bodywork to realign the left front fender, sparing me the need to wait for MONTHS to get my car into body shop. This place is a joke. Worst car service ever. They charged me close to $7K to never really fix my Outback. (Missed and charged for fixing Alternator twice.) they just charged my $1200 to "fix" the main seal. Now my car is leaking coolant and oil everywhere. Hose clamps not even tightened. Over charging for parts.($25 a spark plug?) You'd have better results watching YouTube videos and fixing it yourself. Technicians are horrible. You can count on getting way overcharged. Paperwork states that an oil change includes - among other things - checking the tire pressure. Our vehicle came back with all four tires set at different PSIs, ranging from 22 to 36. I asked why and was told, "We go off the vehicle's max PSI, not what is on the tire." That's great, but why are all four tires at different levels? "Uh, I don't know. I'll talk to the mechanics." We've had a few confidence-eroding instances such as this, and quit going to 34th for a while despite the convenience of the shop being within walking distance of our home. I had posted a longer review following another concern with our vehicle but, after posting, was contacted by Gene (the owner). I appreciated his follow-up and am editing this review. I would have more confidence moving forward knowing Gene is adamant about making things right. read more

They took the time to explain to me why I didn`t need four new tires (only two) and how they could tell that I took good care of my car. I had an oil change done here ($45). During their complimentary inspection, they found a hole in a tire caused by an embedded nail whose head had worn off. They patched the hole and rotated the wheels ($33). We had noticed that the one back tire needed air more often, but hadn't thought too much about it since it was never close to getting flat. They also replaced the air-filter and I'm not sure they even charged labour for putting in that part, just the $17 for the filter. When it came time to pay, Kai asked if I had received their coupon in the mail and I said I saw it but didn't have it with me. He gave me the $10 discount anyways. This is a small, friendly, independent garage and I hope they stay in business for many years. It is great to find a professional garage you can trust to keep your best interests at heart. read more

I have never been here before until I walked in one afternoon (with no appointment) for a brake light replacement. Kai promptly attended to it, and 5 minutes later, the job was done. When Kai said I was good to go, I asked him how much I owed him. He simply said they do not charge for this kind of thing...not even for the parts (the bulb)! We're new to the area, so I only recently used the 34th St. Garage for the first time. I took our late '90's minivan in for some service before we went on an extended trip. They were able to work me in the same day I called and finished the all the work by 4 in the afternoon. They addressed the problems we went in for -- an electrical problem and worn brakes -- with no trouble. And the price for the work seemed reasonable. They also identified a few additional problems with the car. Given that we have not owned the vehicle for long and that it has more than 100K miles on it, we were not surprised by some of these suggested repairs. While it was not fun to pay the bill that ensued, the car is running better than ever. I only give 4 stars rather than 5 because I want to use them a few more times before I give that strong a review, but so far I am pleased with the service I've received. read more

I'm delayed in writing this but just had to give Gene/34th St Garage some love. Back in October 2013 I was on a massive road trip when I did something that completely blew my manual transmission. Other garages rushed me off the phone when they realized I wanted information and might not make an appointment right away, but when Gene answered the phone his friendly demeanor immediately put me at ease and he said, "Sure thing! Bring it in today and I'll take a look for you." He got in the car with me immediately when I brought it over, and as I drove and described the issue he thought out loud about what might be going on, but emphasized he wouldn't know till actually opening the car up. It could have been something pretty cheap or pretty expensive. Unfortunately I had done irreparable damage and needed about the most expensive repair there is...a complete transmission replacement. To help lower the cost, Gene researched used gear boxes as an alternative to a new one and he helped me decide that used was the way to go (the new one would have been over TWICE the cost!). The ideal part he found was located on the east coast, so then there was a waiting game for it to be shipped/arrive. I took the car in to Gene on a Friday, and that same day he diagnosed it, spoke with me, and ordered the part. We didn't know if it'd get there by the following week or not, but it arrived Friday morning and he prioritized my car RIGHT away, knowing that I wanted to continue on my road trip! I was SO thankful to be in good, honest hands, with someone who clearly takes pride in his work and expertise, as well as who tries to give you the best value. Also - the end cost was about $100 less than the estimate, which is spot-on for a multi-thousand dollar fix! I don't live in Seattle, but if I did I would go nowhere else.
