I'm always happy with the work at Stone's garage but today was really impressive. The BMW dealership told me I needed over $1600 in repairs when I had my car in for a recall. Stone's checked it out and I did not need the work but they found another problem that they had previously fixed. They honored the 2-year warranty and did the work with no charge. So instead of paying over $1600 for repairs today, all I paid for was an oil change. It is so good when you can trust your repair shop to do the right thing! read more

This shop is legit. About as legit as a shop can be. Prices aviously could be cheaper but they are faur enough. Some shops just do enough, but these guysvreallybgey it done and done right. You gotta pick and choose what kind of service you need. Smaller shops can get small things done. When you need real work, then you call on these guys. Then the dealership next. I'm not even gonna go into detail the lengths they went through to troubleshoot and fix an electrical issue I was having. Keep up the good work fellas. read more

These guys are honest, friendly and zero BS. I bought a used BMW Z4, which quickly developed a horrific clunking sound from the front end. I spent $800 at another garage and the sound was still there, but that garage wouldn't make good on the repair. Stone's fixed it within the 1-hour diagnostic window, with no additional expenses. Of course I had other stuff done, so the bill was higher, but the point is that they could have charged me a lot more, but didn't -- they were totally straight up on every aspect of their work. 100 percent happy. read more

Zero stars if possible.... Steer clear of Stone's German Garage. My wife took her Tiguan for an oil change. After dropping the Tiguan off, the front desk (Mariah or Angel) called my wife to tell her that her brake pads were worn so low that it was unsafe to drive and that she needed new brakes and rotors immediately. When I called to ask some questions, they said 'We don't care who you have replace the brakes, but we saw your car seats and just want your kids to be safe'...nice I've always taken my cars to https://www.danddbrakes.com/ (highly recommend!) for new brakes. I took the Tiguan to D&D to have the brakes replaced...they called me 10 minutes after dropping it off to say the brake pads were at 60% (rear) and 75% (front), and that the rotors are in great shape. Here is the follow up email correspondence with Stone's: My email to Stone's... Hi Shane, Hope you are doing well. Your team told my wife that her Tiguan needed new rear brakes and rotors, and that it was unsafe to drive (noted in the estimate you provided). I took the Tiguan to the shop where I always have my brakes done, and they informed me the rear brake pads are at 60% and the rotors are in great shape. I had that shop check the front brakes, just in case your estimate accidentally switched/confused the front and back brakes; the front pads are at 75%, so there could not have been any confusion, as both sets of brake pads are in fine shape and safe to drive. I find it hard to believe that the shop I took the Tiguan to for new brakes would turn me away if in fact new brakes and rotors were needed. Can you please tell me why your team would recommend new brakes and rotors, and tell my wife her car is unsafe to drive when that's not the case? Joe Stone's response... Hi Joe, Thank you for reaching out about this. First, we would like to apologize. We have reviewed the recommendations we had made for the Tiguan back in January, and recognize that we had recommended rear brakes, stating that the brake pads had 20%-25% remaining. We always replace rotors with brake pads -no matter what - as they are already made so thin on these performance vehicles, that turning them (sanding them down) makes them so thin, that it severely inhibits the integrity of the brakes. We understand that you took the vehicle to another shop, which indicated our estimation was incorrect. I do not doubt this is the case, and my only thought is that we had recently hired a few new people, and this may have been a training mishap. No matter what, this is our responsibility, and we will be looking into this further, to determine why this may have happened. We want you to know that it was not intentional to misrepresent your wife's brake pad percentages and we do sincerely apologize about this matter. We understand it may have shaken your trust in our shop and our process but hope that you know it was not intentional. Please let us know if we can help in any way in the future. I have a 2015 5 series, which is a great car under warranty however most problems occur after the warranty. First off - this is a 5+ star place - they are great. I write this review after having taken my car to them for the past few years after my "bizarro-world experience with the toxic owner of Fat City. I've had a few different things done here - including having my brakes replaced, some type of coolant pump thing replaced and several oil jobs. My car always comes back clean and ready to go. The last time, I was in a rush to pick up my car and go quickly, so they didn't have time to wash my car and they gave me a free wash coupon for Brown Bear... again, I was the one in a rush, not them. They would have washed it themselves if I hadn't arrived 1 minute after they called me to let me know the work was finished (I was walking that direction already to go to Lagunitas while waiting for them to finish). Shane and Erik are so good at what they do that I make trips to Stone's from Yakima for maintenance and routine services. Their work is excellent and their customer service is the best I've ever experienced. I trust them with my A4 more than any other independent mechanic or dealership. They've done great work for me from simple oil changes to a PCV valve and valve gasket replacement. Their efficiency and customer care is paramount: they're happy to accommodate my travel schedule and work me in on Saturdays. They remember your name as you walk in and the repairs that your car has previously had and what to look out for going forward. Great work and commitment, very convenient and efficient. They're tremendously honest and friendly; these guys are brimming with integrity. My parents left me with two pieces of advice regarding auto maintenance: 1. Always stay on top of scheduled maintenance and repairs. 2. Find a mechanic you can trust like a doctor and stick with them. It safe to say that I've fulfilled the latter. Update: Shane repaired an oil leak in my Audi (long story short--took it in to the dealership under a recall service only to have them tell me that there was a leak when I got it back) for half the cost of the dealership quote. This is the most reasonably priced garage that I have found to help me maintain the health of the 2007 BMW 328i. I've taken my car here 3 times now and I have always received great customer service and they do fine work. A couple years ago, I got a quote to repair my car from Stone German and another quote from Precision Motorworks in Interbay. Stone German's quote was significantly less for the exact same work. Also, my work hours can be really long, so they even allowed me to drop the car off over night, pay over the phone, and pick my vehicle up after hours. Which made my experience so much easier. My first trip there last month was for standard Service "A". They also replaced a burned out turn signal light (no charge). In and out in 2 hours. Today, brought my car in for needed rear shock replacement. They had ordered the parts in advance and had them ready when I arrived. After 3 hours, the car was finished. Great work. Nice ride now. My old-ass Boxster S started blowing a funnel cloud out its arsehole a while back and froze up making a truly terrifying whinnying sound. I was pretty convinced the engine had seized and I was out huge bank, or it was a total loss. Though I live in North Bend and normally take my car to the (extremely expensive) shop in Factoria, I was in Seattle when this happened, and nearby Stones' absolutely well-earned reviews convinced me to call them up. They know so much, it's ridiculous. After just relaying the sounds and the information I'd registered at the time of "The Event", the guy basically (cautiously) diagnosed the situation perfectly. It's a bit mind-blowing to me that from someone making a weird whistling sound and describing the color of smoke and the smell and the temperature gauge, he could detail exactly what the problem was in a surgically precise way. All told, the price tag was MUCH less than I was bracing for (I'm a lover of fast drives who is truly not endowed with a Porsche budget) and much less than the shop I normally visit would have charged. I have no doubt it would have been twice that price elsewhere. Dude also rides a 1200 GS like me so he's A-OK in my book. I'm stoked to be moving back to Seattle because I'll now be making Stones my mechanics for as many days as my beloved (but bedraggled) car has left in it. read more

I am SO impressed! Was able to book an oil change for my Mercedes on short notice (granted my schedule is crazy flexible so that helps!). Price was very reasonable, the drop-off/pick-up process was smooth & even got to meet the owner. This was my first experience with Stone's German Garage, and I can't say enough about this shop. Honestly, I don't know why you'd take a German car anywhere else in Seattle. After two shops could not diagnose the a/c system in my Audi, I went to Stone's as a last resort. I also knew the car was losing coolant at a very slow rate, but no leaks were visible. I did not mention this when I dropped the car off. Stone's diagnosed both problems, gave me a detailed estimate and an expected time to complete the repairs. In fact, the car was ready several days sooner than expected! A/c is ICE cold, and the engine is smooth and running oil temps 10° cooler than before, even on one of the hottest days of the year! This shop is staffed by experts. Shayne, the owner, is very friendly and takes the time to explain the work they do on your car. I've never had a better experience at any shop, anywhere. If you own a German auto and need professional service, do yourself and your car a favor and bring it to Stone's. read more

Recently I received a service quote that was a little higher than anticipated from a local VW dealership. Naturally I started my comparison shopping with the highest rated repair shops in Seattle. I found two with perfect five-star ratings, called one, and then moved onto Stone's to see if they could match it. It was near closing time, so I assumed I'd get voicemail and would have to call the following day. Instead I reached a real person and spoke with their scheduler. She said they couldn't provide a quote without my VIN number. She suggested that visit their website and email them the information through that avenue. She added that I would receive a reply the next day and I said that was fine. Quickly emailed them with my information and was pleased to see an email back the next morning. I was told that they had no availability until the following week and that they couldn't provide an estimate until then. Wait... what? Anyway, reading that made me less pleased. I decided not to call and get possibly more headache. I went with the first dealership and their estimate. They quoted me HALF what the dealership quoted me: a flat cost for the hour of labour, plus the cost of the part. I did have to make an appointment but they had availability that same week AND had my car done in several hours. I also received a discount as a first time customer. I didn't understand why I couldn't give a ballpark estimate even with a week's wait time. The first repair shop that I called was able to quote me a price. In fact, they gave me two options since I was unsure when I called them if it was for the back or front. Sad that initial experience with Stone Garage wasn't as optimal as other Yelpers. Stone's is the unicorn of auto repair shops. They are fair, pleasant, and you can take their word to the bank. Having a 20 year old VW Eurovan means regular repairs. There's no avoiding it. But Stone's stands by their work and already saved me money over what a different shop told me I needed. Example: The van was sluggish going uphill. Other shop came up with a range of possible problems. Stone's: you are not using high enough grade gasoline. Filled the tank with premium and the problem immediately went away. I went to Stones for the first time this week for an oil change on my 05 BMW Z4. Although an oil change isn't anything special, I hate taking my car to a new spot along with the uncertainty that comes with it. The entire experience was great though and way better than I expected. I would recommend them without hesitation and will continue taking my car there. Things I was positively surprised with: The owner introduces himself and he is such a nice and approachable guy. They checked for leaks and found a tiny one that I could ignore. The statement comes with a break pad percentage left before I have to replace them. Their communication and transparency is great about everything they did. They washed my dirty car. Definitely wasn't expecting this from my previous experience with non dealership mechanics. I recently took my 2009 Audi A4 to Stone's German Garage to get a laundry list of items fixed that had been piling up for a year or two, and I could not possibly have had a better experience. Shane and his team were friendly, knowledgeable, and shockingly transparent for an auto shop (I've had some terrible experiences in the past in Seattle). I brought my car in at 8 AM on a Monday morning, and they called me at 11:30 AM the same day to let me know that everything had been fixed. They explained all of the fixes in detail, which made me feel much more confident in the repairs. They also broke down the pricing of each fix for me, and made sure to call out that they didn't charge labor for small fixes like a replaced taillight or new wiper blades. Most importantly, they told me that something I thought was wrong with my car didn't actually need to be fixed - this honesty and transparency saved me nearly $1,000. For one repair that they were unable to make, they referred me to a trusted local tire shop, and gave me an estimate on pricing to make sure that the tire shop didn't overcharge me. This was easily the best experience that I've ever had with bringing a car to an auto shop, and I can't recommend Stone's German Garage enough! If you're looking for a new or first-time auto shop in the Seattle area, give this shop a chance - you won't regret it. read more

I brought my 2004 AUI A4 to Stones for a 65k maintenance and to fix a bevy of problems (coolant leak, power steering issues, air conditioning recharge, etc). They quickly diagnosed all the problems, and gave me fair pricing. I felt they were honest and transparent with me, and wanted to build a lasting customer relationship. The power steering issue was a $8.20 part (power steering fluid return hose clamps), and they didn't charge any labor. When was the last time you got anything mechanical fixed on your german vehicle for less than $10?? Like many reviewers, Shane also came out to meet me. Nice guy. Really clear that he cares about his customers. The front desk was great too. I scheduled my appointment through the contact-us form on their website. They were super responsive on email and worked with me to find an appointment (they had openings within a few days). They also did a great job of translating my description of the problem. For instance, I said "The power steering is crunchy". After a few questions, they translated that to "You feel resistance on the wheel when maneuvering at low speeds, and sometimes hear a sound at the same time". I often need this type of translation, so I'm glad they could help. After dropping off my car, they kept me up to date over phone/email, and went out of their way to make sure I had any questions answered. They did find another issue with my suspension, and gave me the option to take care of it now (at a good price), or keep and eye on it. They told me to look out for if it got worse, which made me feel like I could make a more informed decision (and, frankly, built trust). I decided to take care of it at the time, and now she drives like 2004 again :). read more

Agree with all the positive reviews below. I would like to add that I was getting service on my 2008 VW GTI - the dreaded 80k service! I called around to about five places including a nearby Ballard VW dealership. They were the cheapest quote yet still high scoring on yelp and google. My quote from Ballard VW was $300 more plus tax! If have any other issues with my car I'll be bringing it back for sure. Shane and Eric were super helpful throughout the whole process - even scheduling me for an appointment the next day after I called! Only downside is they don't accept Amex but most local places in Seattle don't either. read more
