I've been shopping here for about 25 years. The employees are generally friendly and helpful, the product selection is good, and the station is obviously frequently upgraded to keep the equipment in good order. Overall I'd probably give it four or five stars, except for their restroom policies (although, the station hours aren't very convenient either: they seem to close around 9:00 PM, and don't open until 6:00 AM. A few years ago, they started closing their restroom to customers. NOTE: Their restroom had always been open to customers before that time, maybe two or three years ago? I grew up in an era where I guess you weren't expected to beg to be allowed to use gas station restrooms, so it's still kind of hard for me to get used to it. Additionally, I have medical issues that require me to use the restroom frequently, and the consequences of being refused can be unpleasant. Other states, like CA, have laws that make it illegal to run a gas station without public restroom access, but I've noticed that WA is really only a Blue state to the extent that things are made inconvenient and/or expensive for the public, but the public doesn't really get the corresponding benefits of that inconvenience or expense. I asked the cashier about their restroom policy several months ago. He told me it wasn't a uniform, blanket refusal, but is usually left up to the employee. I wish I knew what characteristics were needed to pass their evaluation, because I apparently don't have them. I'm an older, middle-class individual, usually relatively well dressed, and I drop about $80 to $90 a visit on gas, Techroline, and snacks. You think it would be obvious from my general demeanor that I'm not really burning with the desire to run into their restroom and carve my name into the mirror with a knife, or whatever people were apparently doing in there, but I guess not. The last time I asked a few weeks ago, I was refused again, supposedly because the employee had just mopped the restroom floor. I took his word for it, although I didn't see any indications of recent restroom floor-mopping activities, like doors left open to dry floors, or mops/buckets sitting out in view. The other issue I have is that they've started to put a portable barrier across their mechanics' shop driveway/parking lot, apparently to prevent drivers from being able to exit the property via the upper (more northward) exit onto 15th Ave NE when the lower (more southward exit) onto 15th Ave NE is blocked by stationary street traffic. I guess such drivers were interfering in some way with cars entering or leaving their shop? The barrier is often there, however, when the shop isn't even open. The station can already be somewhat difficult to get in and out of during times of rush traffic, and this barrier immediately makes it a lot harder. I never saw this barrier used in the past, and, again, I've been coming here since about 2000. read more

I've always good experience with Salmon's over many years with many cars so they are one of my go-to shops. Most recently, I called in the morning to see about getting an alternator replaced. Their price was competitive and they were able to schedule me at 1pm same day. When I got there, they asked if I wanted to wait or come back later. I was surprised, expecting to pick up the next day, asked how long? They said about an hour so I took a walk to get coffee. Less than an hour later, they called to say the car was ready. I paid over $400 to get my battery changed and for them to examine a wheel wobble, which they did not resolve. My battery died in the gas station, and I was told it would cost $100 just to look at the dead battery. My wobble issue was handed off to another service member, who did not receive appropriate instruction on what the issue was. I wish I had answered his initial hand-off call to better instruct him on the wobble problem. Ultimately, it was not worth the cost or experience. read more

Salmon's is a terrific neighborhood garage that deals with issues large and small. Super-friendly staff and a nice gas station and convenience store as well. Today I called to see if they could patch a slow leak. They were happy to fit me in, took the time right away and had everything fixed by the time I came back from taking the dog for a walk around the block. They were really nice to my pup as well, gave him attention as well as one of the biggest dog biscuits he has ever received. I did not return to this station because of how I was treated and The first place I went to on the same day I was refused services told me they would be happy to to do an oil change using my oil and filter and they charged me less than the $45 Salmon Service Center quoted. It was the owner of SSC that told his employee not to service my car. The only reason the owner changed his mind is because of the bad review. Like I said I will never return to this station for anything. read more

They are honest and work with you to help you understand what repairs need to be done and what the cost will be. The owner saw my review, looked up my contact information from my cars intake paperwork, and has been calling me nonstop to "resolve the issue." I accidentally picked up the phone, and had to listen to him monologue. I am deeply uncomfortable that he thinks that harassing me is normal. He offered to have me bring my car back and tried to explain "his businesses side of the story", and tried to tell me that all of the confusion came from the fact that his mechanic's "second language is English." The fact is, I brought my car back a second time with the understanding that they would have a solution to why my mileage was suddenly different after paying 1k to have them fix my car, without a follow up charge. They responded by quoting me 1600 to fix random things that "could be the source of the mileage problem" because "there are a lot of things that may cause poor mileage." The mileage was fine before I let you work on my car. It went from 30 to 19.1. Harassing anyone that disagrees with your scummy business practices? Yikes. I wrote my contact information on my cars intake paperwork when I took it in the first time. Now I'm afraid that this creep will show up at my house. Again my recommendation for an alternate mechanic is Lake City Auto Works. read more

While I am sure this place would do a car repair competently, I am not down with being ripped off. A while ago I clearly needed a water pump. On my car this is a one hour job requiring a $35 part. They quoted me $400, and I knew that was a rip off. I can't stand being ripped off. Instead, I had the job done at another repair shop for about one-third of the cost, all because I knew what a fair price was. The attempt at blatantly ripping me off means not only will Salmon not be repairing my car, I will buy my gas elsewhere. If they don't like it, then they shouldn't quote $400 for a $160 job, because if they do, I'm going to tell everyone. read more

Quick, honest service during a busy period. I was travelling through Seattle on my way to San Francisco as my final destination, and needed to fix an annoying issue involving my Prius - the undercarriage plastic "shield" had been dislodged and was striking the ground every time my car moved. I went to the nearby Toyota service center, but they were fully booked and weren't to take a look at this, even though it is a very simple problem of either reattaching or removing the shield. I tried calling multiple auto service centers around me but no one was willing to take a look. Finally I called Salmon's Service Centers and there were able to give me an appointment in an hour. Long story short - they took it in, we discussed the problem, I agreed to simply remove the shield and they DIDN'T CHARGE ME because it was a simple fix, something which not even the Toyota dealership was willing to acknowledge. 2 Thumbs up to Salmon's Service Centers! It wasn't a major issue, but it is very difficult to drive with a dragging sound under you because of a silly torn shield. read more

I'm not sure I've ever experienced a higher level of customer service in my life. I dropped my car off with them yesterday for an oil change, which they performed quickly. Well, at the end of the day yesterday, after I'd driven my car a good 15 miles since the oil change, I started it back up to drive home when I heard the car make a new noise, a high pitch sort of chirping. So I decided that I'd stop by their shop this morning to inquire about it. I didn't even have an appointment but since I had been there the day before, I kinda hoped they'd just take a look at it for me. Jonathan jumped into action, popped the hood with me right there. Made a quick assessment and suggested that I should probably not drive it (for safety reasons) until he can take a better look and order the necessary part or parts. Next thing I know, I'm getting a free ride back to my house with another employee named Darryl because that's just how awesome they are. Jonathan called me less than 30 minutes later to announce that they'd diagnosed the problem and that the appropriate part was already on the way to the shop, and gave me the estimate, said it'll be done soon. Sure enough, I got a call from them about an hour after that to announce it was ready for pick up! As I readied myself to get an Uber to get me back to the shop, Jonathan just offered to come pick me up in my car and drive back to the shop where I could pay. (and btw, masks AND gloves were worn, so I felt completely safe). ARE YOU KIDDING ME? These guys just went completely out of their way to help me out today. I started my day so worried about the car and here I am, not even 2 hours later, reunited with my car (& it's running great!), saved myself at least $30 not having to use Uber, and can say with confidence that this place is going to be my go-to shop from now on, and will recommend them to everyone I know. I definitely would recommend this place. Recently, my brakes become in need of urgent repair and replacement. I checked several businesses, and decided to take a chance after reading positive Yelp reviews. I couldn't be more happier! The service was affordable (came in lower that original estimate) and done the same day I called. John (not sure if he was the owner....) even made me aware of other issues on my car that might need attention soon. I took my car here to get an oil change a few months ago. When it was time to do another oil change, I found it difficult to take out the bolt to drain my oil from the oil pan. I come to find out that they tighten it so tight that it stripped the drain plug. I then called them and asked if they could reimburse me but they told me that it wasn't there fault and that it was due to rust... Don't go here, they don't know what they're doing period. It needed: *Lube, oil, filter service *Broken visor replaced *Front left blinker fixed *Plastic thing (?) underneath replaced because it was scraping *All 4 tires replaced It took them less than 36 hours, and cost me less than half what I expected to pay, These guys were friendly, knowledgeable, professional, fast, and inexpensive! Mitch and his team at Salmon's are AWESOME. As in FULL OF WIN. :) I'm trying to save costs from a collision, so I sourced and picked up a new door for my 05 Jetta GLI at a wrecking yard, and Mitch switched out the old for the new, and even went a step further and helped me with some other odd electrical stuff that's been going on in my car for ages. And that last part was just a courtesy - I had already paid and mentioned it, and they came right out, plugged in, and diagnosed it in a heartbeat!! Great team, super-smart, and total straight-shooters. Even if you just need an oil change, I recommend bringing your wheeled baby to Salmon's. You be glad you did! (And, if you have to wait, there's a quaint little coffee shop just a block or so south of them, Treehouse Coffee.) WOW. I can't believe people gave them bad ratings. We had an awesome experience with them. Who says you have to go to some big corporate auto repair shop???? My Subaru got a big tune-up at the dealership and they said the front brake pads and the right CV hoods needed to be replaced. Though we knew the pads needed a change, we decided to get quotes elsewhere because it seemed fishy that there was a leak in one of the CV hoods. Salmon's was the first place that came to mind. We had the guy inspect the hoods because he, as well as us, thought it was odd that they would need changing already since it's an '06 with only 50K on it. He confirmed that they're just fine and not leaking. So we scheduled to get the pads changed with him a few days later. He said it would only take a couple hours and he kept his word. We dropped it off, then he called us promptly in less than 2 hrs, we went and got the car, and ended up paying less than what he quoted. Brakes work incredibly well too. So I know we will go back if we ever need anything. read more

This review should have been written a long time ago. I've taken my business to Salmon's on 125th several times because their work is excellent and their rates competitive. Despite the excellent customer service, I was taken aback by the service that one of the mechanics, Jon, provided. After having a tail light replaced on my vehicle, my car got stuck in park when I tried to back into my garage. I called Salmon's right away, and Jon drove to my house a few blocks away, unjammed the gear, and drove my car back to the garage where the problem was diagnosed and fixed at no extra charge. His supervisor didn't seem to be particularly surprised when I told him how Jon went above and beyond to help me, and that's probably because Jon always provides that level of customer service. I will not go anywhere else to have my 1997 Toyota Corolla serviced. Highly recommended! read more

I have used Salmon;s Service Center on 125th & 15th for over 20 years. They have worked on at least five of my vehicles. I am prompted to write this review because I just had an AMAZING experience with them. Yesterday, driving down I-5 a vehicle pulled along side of me, signaled to roll my window down. He told me "Dude, you have no brake lights" I took the next exit & sure enough, I had tail lights, directionals, and back up lights but NOTHING when the brakes were applied. On line research told me it was the electrical switch attached to the pedal. I bought the $12 part from the auto store, watched some youtube videos & figured it would be a couple hour job to do it myself. WRONG! I couldnt even get my hands up there to take it out. A call to Jack at Salmon's & he told me to bring it in. He checked it out & made the same diagnosis I did. He estimated it would take about an hour of labor and that he could have it done TODAY!. I couldn't believe it! True to his word a little over an hour later he called & said everything was working fine. He had to actually remove the steering column to get to the part, so I am REALLY glad I didnt try to do that myself! Thank you again Jack and Salmon's! I am so impressed with Salmon's Service in Northgate. I got a flat tire on a Saturday night on my BMW M3, and the M3 doesn't come with a spare tire. Salmon's is the only service center open in this region on a Saturday night or Sunday, and they actually came to my car! They got me on the road and to their service center and then took absolute care of my little sports car. They were fast, they were very friendly and explained everything they were doing along the way. I was expecting to pay $500 to $800 for new rear tires and the emergency road side service, but I walked out repaired and only a $78 fix! Driving up the 125th street hill from Lake City last week my car suddenly blew a radiator hose and coolant steam blew from under the hood... Thinking how fortunate I was to be able to simply pull into the repair shop located right in front of me I stopped and shut off my engine as steam billowed out underneath my hood... I went to speak with the three mechanics Sitting in front of their computers (with only one car in the bay with the hood up) to inquire as if they could help me, or at the very least take 30 seconds out of their day to, at the very least, take a glance at my problem... But no... I was totally ignored, and eventually told to leave the car there and they'd "get around to it eventually" ..... What a Joke !! If I treated my customers like this I'd been out of business decades ago !! Anyway, I put in a gallon of water and nursed my car down the street where a friendly mechanic fixed it for a fair price... I've lived in Seattle all my life and have always viewed that Chevron Auto Repair with suspicion.... I wasn't wrong... I drove up to the station hoping that I could get help installing my headlamp in my car. I had already spent over an hour trying to install myself with no luck.. I was frustrated and had hit my head on my hood when it came down suddenly. As soon as I pulled up to the service bays I was created by 2 attendants who immediately said sure we can help! Imagine my relief! They proceeded to remove the cover of my headlights only to find that the auto parts store had sold me the wrong headlamp...Argh. Never fear they happened to have the correct one! Just like that it was installed I paid for the lamp and was on my way! Salmon's has won me as a loyal customer . This type of service is rare these days. Excellent work! read more
