The mechanics said nothing was wrong and refused to give even a partial refund. They said that the brakes were working. And that the calipers they put on were new even though they are rusted over. When I asked if they were proud of their work they adamantly said they were not proud. Now five days after picking it up from grease monkeys again the brakes froze up on the freeway. And I have to get it towed again. DO NOT USE THIS SHOP. They don't know what they are doing and are happy to say so. read more

Very bored/grumpy worker, told me I should replace the air filter even though it looked very clean and only had 8,000 miles on it. Charged me $10 extra for the filter, and $4 for the car being AWD; and they didn't top off the windshield washer bottle, like every other Grease Monkey has done. These guys are my new go to. They've done my oil changes and rear differential fluid on my 2016 Dodge Challenger. I had my engine light come for a simple gas cap issue and after running around all day to find out what was going on from auto parts stores to dealers themselves, these guys were the only ones that identified the issue for me and had me in and out in under 5 minutes. Agree with other more recent reviews that service here has taken a downturn after having good service for some years (new management?). They tried to tell me my brakes needed replacing immediately (I had recently had them checked out). Had father-in-law get oil changed; they didn't put cap on correctly so oil sprayed all over engine and fell into spot we couldn't reach. Disappointed and taking business elsewhere. read more

We got an oil change here quickly today- all expectations met! All in all it took about 30 minutes and we had no reservation. Our car takes premium oil, so it was a bit more expensive. The oil change plus replacement of a filter ended up costing about $150. I have NO idea if that's a good price or not! read more

I choose this location for its Covid 19 procedure post on its website.. I appreciated the fact that I could stay in my car to avoid contact. I was disappointed to see the technician did not wear mask when approaching the car. I understand the difficulties of working with a mask on but also feel mask protection goes both ways. I've been loyal to grease monkey in Ballard for 2 yrs now but today's experience was subpar. I'm disappointed to say the least. I got in at 510pm. While I understand the store closes at 6 that's not a reason to skimp on the service. The chart says my tires are at 32-they are not. I checked when I got home and suspected they didn't check at the store. Asked about the military discount that i usually get--dosnt apply. Not quite sure what happened today but I have other options for an oil change. Will be taking my business elsewhere if I'm spending $120 every time. read more

Pretty fast service. 3 or 4 guys working on my car at the same time. Nobody has noticed that my wheel alignment probably needs adjusting. First question will be are your wiper blades working? Then what type of service do you want. I knew there would be add ons, so I just went with the $43 And was told all fluids looked good,but air filter is getting a little dirty and I'll need break fluid. Filter was reasonable at $20, but break fluid is $79 and no I don't want to buy a jug of it and find someone to help for half the price If you need an oil change without major services go here. Only 1 out of 4 staff had a mask on, and I had to remind him to put it on when I opened my window. Another staff who spoke with me covered his face with his shirt when I asked about a mask. I sat in my car the whole time and heard some worrying comments about my transmission, but when I asked about it I got a bit of a run around answer. All the folks who helped me were very friendly, but it feels like management hasn't given them a whole lot of guidance and support about operation during this time. I called prior to coming in to get the price and ask about extra fees, and was told there would be a $3 fee for oil disposal. It turned out to be $10 because I needed a "special filter." When I took my car in to get a simple oil change they tried to force the issue that I needed the synthetic oil for my car. I know for a fact that my car uses regular oil. They apologized after looking at the cap and indeed my car does take regular oil. I pulled in this morning for an oil change with a Val-Pak coupon $31.99. I have a mini SUV, a non-4×4 vehicle. As I pulled in I was greeted by an employee with a clipboard asking me to roll down my window. I did and was immediately told I could only have the most expensive oil change as he pointed to the $92 option on the clipboard. I asked him to repeat himself and he did. I never got out of my vehicle. I simply turned around and left! If you have the audacity to charge me more than my dealership charges for the exact same service, you can try to stay in business without my $. Brought my car in to get an alternator belt installed and they told me that my power steering pump was going out. When they put the belt on they installed the apparatus that holds it on backwards. I had another mechanic fix it and when I called to let them know they left me on hold for 15 min. Unacceptable. read more

Drove up during my lunch break, guys had my car into the shop within 5 minutes, and I was back out of there with a fresh "high mileage" oil change in about 15 minutes. Full service. Best part is when I checked in there on Yelp, I got an instant coupon for $12 off. They gave a thorough explanation of everything they checked as well as recommendations. I took my car in yesterday and there was only one attendant on duty. The place had been broken into recently. I have a strong feeling that he never changed the oil filter and I really doubt he changed the oil. He never cleaned the exterior the glass. And my mileage to change my oil on my Mercedes SLK 320 would not reset which lets me think that nothing was really done. Don't go here! I had to remind him to check the tire pressure. Greasey GREASEY Monkey- please DO NOT try to upcharge me and give me a $60 oil change when all I want from you is the bare bones deal. Also, I did NOT appreciate walking up to a few of your employees, after it's servicing, and watch them laugh and chat as they checked over the over the back of my car. 'Problem, boys?' I ask as I strolled up. I actually heard one of them say 'Shhh.' before I get there.. 'Oh no, mam. We just clipped the tire on the side. It's no big. Just the tire, not even the hubcap.' He points. 'Hmmm.. and this is why I go to my mechanic for oil changes'- is what I said to them, and then to their manager once again while paying. I made sure the two women in the waiting room heard all about it. Don't let the old negative yelp reviews dissuade you from coming here. They've either tired from the negative feedback or they replaced their staff because I had no problem getting in and out and on with life. This is one of two places that is open on Sunday if you are in a fix in the area to get your oil changed (the other being Jiffy Lube but they tend to have an hour long wait). I called ahead and told the nice phone chick that I had a yelp check in deal, and the make and model of my car. She checked the manufacturers recommendations for the type of oil (synthetic, which is true for our vehicle, so its good to know that they are able to confirm and check options) and we came right in. This place also has synthetic blend oil that is about 20 bucks cheaper than synthetic but you should probably make sure that it is factory recommended for your vehicle. Also, boyfriend decided the last time that he got an oil change that synthetic oil = 10,000 miles so you can bet it has been a long while since he attended to his poor engine. After I mocked his reasoning for about 10 minutes the desk lady took pity on him and explained why that isnt true: when you buy your automobile from the dealership, they usually fill it with high grade factory synthetic oil that is more expensive than your run of the mill oil change station oil and therefore can last much longer, which is why when you get a new car you can go longer without an oil change at first. But once you stick in that common oil shop oil in there, you're pretty much clamped down to maintaining your car every 3-5 months or 3-5,000 miles. I'm from Detroit so I think im used to a certain standard of oil changing: usually you never have to get out of your car, the guys show you your own dipstick before and after and they show you how dirty your filters are. This is so you don't get ripped off. Since this doesn't seem to be the practice on the west coast, I recommend asking to see all of these things every time you get an oil change, because you never know. The one guy did try to up sell us on air filters, which were replaced only a few months ago so I knew that he was trying to get some more dollars through the door there. But hey its a business, and I get it. Just cover your own ass when you go through places like these and ask to see the filters and dipstick before you purchase anything further. Other than that we were out in less than 30 minutes, and everyone was very nice. No morons under the hood, and no hidden coverages that popped up when we went to pay. Steer clear! Normally I wouldn't pan (no pun intended) a quicky oil place, cause they are all pretty bad in my opinion, but this place really bites. My wife took her car in and they changed her air filter along with the oil change, but broke the housing clip in the process. So they graciously duct taped it and never told us about it. Weeks later had to take the car in to find out what was up, and sure enough they screwed it up, resulting in $200+ to fix. Also on my car, they said they would check "all fluids" along with the oil service I had done. Soon found out my power steering fluid was really low, and then went back to ask - they said "Oh, we don't carry that type of fluid, you'd need to go to the dealer for that." - Great, thanks for telling me so. I really appreciate you just putting "Checked, OK" on the service receipt instead. They are a bunch of non-mechanical monkeys, not grease monkeys. Go find a more reliable solution, and save yourself possible headaches and money. read more

I too would give zero stars if I could. Went in for an oil change. Got the high pressure sale to do more services. Took the bait. They did their "transmission service", which apparently means flushing all the fluid and replacing it. Except, they didn't replace it. OOOPS. I am now looking at a $4,500+ repair bill - you guessed - it needs a new transmission. Please keep in mind, we're talking about a make and model known for going FOREVER and that only has 65,000 miles on it. This car has never ONCE been in the shop except for regularly scheduled maintenance. Running like a champ when I took it in. One week later, dead. I might up this rating to 2 stars IF they end up doing right by me...I am still working with them on this. So far, the manager is really nice and seems to be trying. I'll update this review when I have a resolution - IF I get a resolution. Sigh. read more

I feel like I have to share my horrible experience at Grease Monkey last Monday, so that you have the choice to avoid what I have gone through with them! I normally get my car serviced at Arne's, and they're great--professional, fast, everything I want from an auto shop. However, last Monday I was about to fly out for my grandmother's funeral and I knew that an oil change in my wagon was way overdue. By the time I got around to it, it was almost 6pm, so my husband and I pulled into Grease Monkey. What could go wrong, right? It's just an oil change. Well... apparently, an overzealous 'mechanic' forced my gear shift into park without holding down the button. As it turns out, that prevents the car from starting. I was frustrated. On top of all the emotion I was feeling from finding out my grandma had passed, I had to fly out at 6 am and suddenly my car is broken. But they promised to pay for any damage if our mechanic concluded it was due to their negligence. At least, that's what they told us so we would still pay for the oil change. Before we handed over our credit card, he agreed to write a note stating that he would cover the damages on our receipt. After he ran the receipt, he suddenly had amnesia and claimed he'd never said that and that there was no way it was their fault. Right. So I'll be taking this to small claims court, but you can save yourself the trouble by taking your car to a trustworthy mechanic rather than to a bunch of untrained guys who don't even know how to put a car into park without breaking something. Oh! Also, they rummaged through the camping gear in the back of my car. wtf? That's a violation, but kind of overshadowed by the rest of it. read more

I am so surprised to read all the negative reviews on here. I have been going here for the last two years. I bring in both my car, a jetta and my husband's car, a Scion XB. I have never ever ever had a problem here. Yes they do try to upsell a bit (but that is to be expected from any type of auto place) but they do not over-do it. Obviously, go with where you feel most comfortable. I feel sorry for everyone on this page that has had a bad experience here, but I have been nothing but happy with this place. The staff is always very friendly and they don't make me feel stupid when I don't know anything about cars. I only ever get the basic oil change, I have never taken any of the other offers when they do upsell. They have changed things like my air filter before. I've been here a few times. I will never be back. Before a big holiday road trip, I stopped in for an oil change and to get a lightbulb replaced. As I left, after enduring awkward come ons and witnessing the same treatment of a fellow female customer, I noticed my light had not been fixed. They told me to "just drive a little and it will be fine." It was not fine. I came back a week later, with the same light still out, and politely asked for it to be replaced - for real this time. The manager thought it made sense to argue with me about how they did replace it, but the light right next to it went out ... at the exact moment I drove away the first time. Really? I told the manager about the harassing treatment his female customers get from the guys on duty the first time, and he literally said, "oh. okay." and clearly could not have cared less. So, I was overcharged and put in a dangerous position by having to drive around sans brake and signal light, then charged another 7 bucks for the actual fix. And, this place things women deserve to be made to feel uncomfortable by staff. Never going back, and you shouldn't head there or any other location either. I wish there were more stars to give these guys. I have an engine coolant leak, so I stop by frequently and they are always so warm and welcoming. Today, when I stopped in they didn't just look past my usual visit and looked over my whole car health and informed me I needed a brake job and tire rotation. My confidence is maxed out with the crew here - like good doctors, they are looking at preventive and whole car health and I am so appreciative. Very fast, nice well intended people, but left a wrench in my engine. Tried them for a couple years off and on mostly ok. I'd say if you go there ask them nicely to just make sure all the caps are on tight and slow down a bit and be nice to your car. We discovered the wrench after I had returned a couple days after my oil change for an unrelated situation. We watched the wrench fall out as he opened the hood. They scrambled a bit and the owner gave me a free magazine?! Accidents happen but, it was weird. I'm going to try out a few other places, let you know if I find a better oil change spot. read more
