Such a waste of time! I had a slow leak in one of my tires so I called ahead to see if they could help. They said yes. Then I made an appointment online for them to fix my tire. I dropped off my car and after 24 hours I finally called them to see what was going on. They said they could replace all four tires for $500 or not help me at all. What a racket! Don't be fooled, they do not fix tires. They are in the business of trying to sell you tires. I will never go there again. What a shame, they're so close to my house. But they are unprofessional, unresponsive, and unhelpful, so I will take my business elsewhere. read more

I booked an appointment for a Tire Replacement (tire damaged beyond repair). I was told it could take 3 hours to replace. I checked back in 3 hours later and no one had even looked at it yet. You might think an email confirmation would indicate you have an appointment. You might arrange your day around your confirmed appointment. You might get out of bed earlier than you want and miss the end of qualifying for the Hungarian Grand Prix to make your confirmed appointment on time. You might also be surprised to learn upon arrival that despite your email confirmation, text confirmation, and appointment tracker that you don't actually have an appointment. What might surprise you more is the lack of apology or any interest whatsoever from the dude behind the counter who informs you not that you don't have an appointment, no he skips that part, and goes right to "I can get you in on August 1st" (it's July 22nd, the day of your confirmed appointment). When you say "uhh I have a confirmation email here," he'll say "no someone else has that appointment, it's an automatic system. If you had an appointment, you would have gotten a call from us." Again, you'd be surprised since it says nothing about that in your CONFIRMATION EMAIL. At a minimum, you (or I) would have expected an "I'm sorry for the mix-up." You wouldn't get that, and you shouldn't give this place your business. Garbage customer service and business practices. 0/5 stars. read more

If you have an online reservation system, you should be able to honor the reservations. I made a reservation for Wednesday. The day before I receive a confirmation of my appointment. This is followed a few hours later with a notice that my reservation is cancelled. Trying to reach them via phone results in no one picking up after 10 mins of ringing. I've taken different cars here a couple of times and always gotten great service. Most recently, I had a puncture in my tire which they were unable to patch because it was too close to the side wall. I was helped primarily by Ali, who I felt had my best interests in mind and didn't try to upsell me once. He gave me several options to proceed in getting a new tire and ended up recommending affordable tires that also seem to be high quality. I made an appointment for a simple oil change. Two hours later, they hadn't even started. Took my car back, went to Jiffy Lube and was done in 30 minutes. This place used to be a great place and I don't know what has happened to it, but now Customer Service has tanked and don't bother making an appointment because it doesn't mean anything. If you call, its a pretty straightforward process to book an appointment but it is frustrating that the online system allows you to book. Beware, if you are in a rush, you need to allocate 5-10 mins to sign in and drop off your car but I understand that they are short staffed. Other than that, no issues! For now the second time, I received a phone call from someone on staff less than 24 hours before my set appointment, and was told that the shop is "jammed up" and the next available appointment is two weeks away. That is completely unacceptable! My appointment was made six days in advance, so if they were busy, they had plenty of time to call me to reschedule. For it to happen once, fool me, but to try to pull this BS again? No! I will never return to this location, nor will I allow anyone in my world to spend a penny there. I took my 2016 Ford Explorer in to be checked out due to shaking in the front end when I accelerated. They let me know that I needed a number of new components to address the issue and I authorized those repairs. They later called me back and said the repairs did not solve the problem so they needed to do some more repairs which I gave them the authorization to proceed. The next day I was driving the car and getting onto the freeway and I experienced the exact same front in shaking with no improvement at all. I contacted the Ballard Pep 'Boys location and let them know that I had no change to the condition of my vehicle after spending $3,212.21 on repairs. I was told by the manager that the reason for the shaking in the front end was due to a transmission issue and I needed to take it to a transmission shop to have it addressed. When I told him I brought the vehicle in for them to diagnose it was for the shaking and that was not addressed in any way. I was told that I basically have an entirely new front end on my vehicle at this point and I needed to go to a transmission shop to address the shaking issue. I'm highly dissatisfied with my service at Pep Boys Ballard as I feel they just threw parts and service at an issue that didn't address the reason for me bringing my vehicle into their location. Compleat rip off by running up the cost of repairs on my vehicle and no mention ever of a transmission issue. Pep Boys does not offer transmission service so they just ran up my bill on a suspension issue and then told me to take it elsewhere to have the issue addressed. read more

I feel I need to praise and give credit where it's due to the exceptional work and care I received at the Ballard Pep Boys. I recently moved to Ballard and I've only been in Seattle for less than a year. Finding a trustworthy mechanic shop that doesn't have it's mechanics diagnosing from a commissioned bias has been troublesome. I recently had thousands of dollars worth of repairs be recommended to me with my second-opinion shop being Pep Boys. The communication was perfect. Phone call follow-up, daily updated progress reports through their website. They also proved a level of honesty that was completely unexpected, if I'm being honest. I gave an impulsive green light go ahead on a repair that all the mechanics had to do was complete and collect. Easy money. On the next status update with my vehicle, I was told that the repair was not needed and that they would feel like they were taking advantage of me if they didn't first have a conversation about what they found needed to be done. Again, wow.. honesty and transparency. Pep Boys took care of me in Colorado and their taking good care of me in Seattle. read more

I've always had a pretty positive experience with this location. I've been going since 2019. However, the past 2 interactions have been really frustrating. I called for an estimate about an oil change, and they wouldn't give me a straight answer, which was super weird. I asked for availability for an appointment and DIDN'T choose a time and DIDN'T schedule an appointment. The person on the phone apparently chose a random appointment time, and I just got an email reminder for the time. I called and voiced the issue to someone who spoke so fast that I could barely keep up with, since they spoke over me and spoke so quickly. They thankfully canceled the appointment but were pretty rude about it. I've really liked going here, I really hope this isn't how they are moving forward. I'll find a different place if so. I'm not willing to be plowed over and dismissed. read more

I bought a set of tires from them (still going great!) and had tire rotations, oil changes, and a taillight replacement done there. The guy helping me was super unhelpful. I had a piece of metal in my tire which made it flat. When I asked if he could inflate it just so I can go to the nearest tire store he initially said no. Like what? You were about to just send me on the road with a completely flat tire? He finally agreed to after I asked him over and over again. They also quoted me twice as much as discount tire. I needed a new tire when I got a flat. I've been going to Pep Boys in Ballard for 4 years so of course took it there. A new guy, Nick was at the front desk and was totally rude. I told him I had tire insurance and he said my insurance didn't specify which tire. Well in that case I'll take it for this one. He didn't like that. When he Gave me the bull he said he would use the insurance on that one but the tread was so bare I only got $14 off a new tire. He refused to show me my old tire even though it was not even 6 months old. He said there was no millage listed on the last order so he didn't know how old the tire was. Instantly I did not believe a word he said. I then asked him to run an engine light diagnostic on my car which he flat out refused. The next day my new tire was in and I went to pick it up. When I saw the mechanic I asked him to plug in his engine diagnostic and Nick yelled at me to not talk to his mechanic and the diagnostic would cost $100. I then looked at the Pep Boys web site where they say all their free services. One being an engine light diagnostic. I showed this to Nick and he huffed off to do it. I watched him to make sure he didn't harm my car. I did not trust him. Anyway after about an hour ( to change one tire) I left there spending more than ever have. I got in my car and they only inflated 3 tires with one not inspected. U thought about going back in but decided I would inflation the last myself in order to do it right. I have never been treated so poorly. I will NEVER be back to this Pep Boys. What a shame. Nick definitely needs to get out of customer service. Lost my loyal business. read more

Asshole at counter opens when he feels he is done watching whatever he wants and when he wants despite 8am. No concern for parents needing to take their kids to school. Charges enormous fees based on diagnostics only and no inspection. Can't even begin to handle electrical issues including checking a fuse and basically worthless in resolving what is really needed. Have to hire a real auto mechanic for that. Worthless and a waste of time. Get better service at a parts store. If it sounds too good to be true ... then it probably is. I had a feeling after reading the gleaming and limited reviews for this shop on yelp that perhaps their rating was a bit inflated. Nonetheless, while doing some comparison shopping for a new set of snow tires I did my due diligence and paid them a visit on a weekday mid afternoon. I learned that Pep Boys is located at what used to be the old Good Year here in Ballard. Having had good experiences with Good Year, and so I stopped in. I walked in to an empty store front, no one at the counter. Nearby in the waiting area an employee was speaking with the sole customer in the store. The front counter was covered with what appeared to be various perishable grocery items including partially frozen raw red meat. While I waited a male walked in and approached the counter. A few minutes later the employee walked over back to the front end and began a casual conversation with the male. They chatted for a bit and she thanked him for the "treats" i.e. the groceries laying atop the counter. They hugged and he left, and she quickly scooped up the groceries and took them to a nearby office. All the while standing there nearly 10 minutes by now waiting for help or to be acknowledged, the employee approached the counter and explained the male is a customer who likes to drop off treats to them in appreciation for their good service. She introduced herself as Suzy and shook my hand warmly as we got down to why I was there. I explained I was shopping for a set of snow tires. She mentioned that Pep Boys has acquired the business when the original owners retired. She asked me for the tire specs and began keying information into their computer when the phone rang. I waited patiently while she explained to the customer on the phone that she was with a customer but would be happy to return their call, and wrote down their information. I noticed that there were stacks of paper strewn all over the front counter as she quickly jotted down the customer's number. Back to it, we had but a few minutes to discuss my quote further before the phone rang again. You guessed it, she excused herself once again and took the call. A few minutes later she was able to produce a quote and print it out, explaining that their access to snow tires is a bit limited at the time. At this point a new customer walked in and she informed him someone would be with him shortly. Suzy spoke with me regarding my quote a bit further, and meanwhile a male employee appeared and began to help the waiting customer. As we continued to discuss my quote Suzy became distracted and I realized she was not listening to me but rather the other customer's conversation. And then without even excusing herself she barged in on their conversation, ignoring the question I had just asked her after receiving the quote: Can you explain what your warranty program is. At this point I thanked them, and walked out. I will not be back, and would urge others to read the other reviews with a grain of salt. If you want good Customer Service and for your time to be respected and not wasted, go elsewhere. I cannot vouch for their actual repair skills or services, but they certainly failed the litmus test for my trust and business. read more
