When my lack of planning meant I couldn't get my oil change done by my usual place I thought I would try the close by Grease Monkey . They were friendly and set clear expectations. They said it would be 30 minutes. Since I live 5 minutes away they agreed to call me when it was ready. I probably would have given them a 4-5 star review. After an hour I called them and was told oh its ready. I asked them why I wasn't called they said they were busy. When I got to the shop 5 minutes later they were no cars in any bays and no customers in the shop. Had they just told me the screwed up and apologized I probably wouldn't have written this review! They lost another star when I realized driving away that the car interior had not been vacuumed which was supposed to be part of the full service I had paid for. read more

I went in to get my oil changed and I knew that I was overdue for a transmission flush, which I requested. They said that I had a leak from my transmission pan gasket. To replace it, I received a quote of $300 dollars. I agreed. I wandered off for a while. When I came back, the guy, whose name I wished I had taken down, said that there was an issue getting the gasket and that things would take a bit longer. For some reason, the final cost was $100 lower than the quote. Also, the same guy said that I needed all four brake pads and rotors replaced to the tune of $700. I did not have that done. Since I had other things to get fixed, I took the car to the dealership the next week. They found that the transmission pan gasket was still leaking and was the wrong part. Subaru specs state that it needs to be silicone and this one was rubber. Also, they found that none of the brake pads or rotors needed replacing. While I cannot prove it, it's possible that they knowingly put the wrong part in. Possibly they wrong part was delivered and rather than wait for the right one, they installed what they had and reduced the price. I can't think of any other reason that a mechanic would drop the quoted price by that much. What I do know is that they installed the wrong part on my car. Also, the one person tried to defraud me of $700 of repairs that the Subaru dealership said were unnecessary. They offered to redo the work, which I refused. My refund should be coming. It is not yet overdue. read more

Took car in for oil change. Little did I know, BIG MISTAKE! 10/02/12 full service oil change. 10/05/12 my car overheated, I pulled over and opened the hood to come to find radiator cap was not put back on... and over filled my engine oil by 2 quarts. 10/09/12 diagnosis from Subaru dealer BLOWN HEAD GASKET! DO NOT TAKE YOUR CAR HERE! I commute about 15 miles each way back and forth to work 5 days a week I have done so in this car for a little over a year, kept up on scheduled maintenance and NEVER had any problem with my car. I'm a single mother with a 4 year old Autistic son... These people just totally screwed me! $2500. bill to fix it and what is Grease Monkey gonna do? NOTHING!! Filing civil suit today. read more

These guys definitely did right by me. I came in for a high milage oil change. $64.99 but with the $12 off coupon right around $50 is a good deal. Also one of the rubber hangers for my exhaust had broken and my muffler was a bit loose. They didn't have the part but I walked down to the O'Reillys down the street and got it and they fixed me up free of charge. Whole exchange was about a half hour. Hassle free and fast added to all the minor services included in the oil change, I would definitely recommend to a friend. read more

Do not come here - sketchy and untrustworthy. I took my car in for tire rotation and oil change. As I was getting ready to pay I noticed my car was missing a hubcap. They failed to mention this to me when checking out - I had to bring it up. When asked what happened they said they should have been more careful and broke the clips and they couldn't get the hubcap back on. They also said they would not replace the hubcap, they said "it's not that expensive". When asked to talk to their higher management, they said he doesn't talk to customers and that they don't replace parts so I'm stuck... This place is a joke... after checking out, the printer was broken so he couldn't give me a proper invoice.. BAD management and overall horrible experience. read more

First off about my car they serviced: most places don't stock the filter because it is fancy schmancy limited production car AND my car requires 7.5 quarts of special synthetic oil which is WAY more than more cars.So I never get the 'coupon' deal, and rightly so, and also usually they need to order my filter from some warehouse, which usually adds a delay. That being said, when the fellas at grease money Ballard said "Nick ,you car is done and ready to go" I was very happy how quickly they got everything done. all vacuumed out the windows were cleaned, I was a happy man. I had to get new license plates this year and while I put on the back plate already, I didn't have the little zip ties to do the front plate. I do it that way on the front because the old license plate mount I felt detracted from the look of the front grill. One of the fellas at grease monkey said "I noticed you have your new front plate on the floor of the passenger side. Would you like for me to put it on for you?" I said how will you mount it? and he said " got zip ties here just like you have on there now. I said SWEET and THANK YOU. It sure is nice how he saw the plate, and offered to do that...way to 'think on your feet' to do a nice extra thing for the customer (ME) :) When employees at your business are looking for ways to give more value, it makes me as a customer feel they care about me and are looking out for my best interests :) Funny things is...it probably took me twice as long to write this review as the fellas at Grease Money took to service my car :) LOL read more

Dishonest management, lied in signed document, doesn't respect customer's privacy. So, I was involved in a dispute with a different oil change place for damage done to my car, and it was looking like I would need to go to small claims to resolve it. That other place contacted this Grease Monkey location asking for information. Without my consent or even notification, this Grease Monkey gave a written, signed statement to the other business and gave them personal information, info on my car, when I was there, and even the contents of my car! Talk about invasion of privacy - how is this not against company policy? Anyway, as if that wasn't bad enough, they got some of the information incorrect which, for reasons too complicated to go into here, severely jeopardized my legal case with the other business, nearly costing me around $500 in repairs. Thinking it was a simple misunderstanding, I contacted them to get them to correct it. Not only would they not write me a similar letter correcting the mistake, the district manager kept saying they "didn't want to get involved" (keep in mind, they involved themselves to begin with by writing the letter), and the store manager said "well, you shouldn't have taken your car to [the other oil place]", as if any of this was somehow my fault. The reason I say they "lied" about it, rather than they made a mistake is that they refused to correct it once it was brought to their attention. It took several weekly calls to the manager, district manager, and finally their corporate management in Colorado over a period of two whole months until they finally wrote me that note. And even then it wasn't done properly, just a one sentence email. read more

This "grease monkey" location deserves 4 negative stars. The reason? Don't get me started.... 1) This location OVER charged me on a simple oil change, 2) Management doesn't respond, 3) im still trying to get my money back, and 4) they did a F- job on my car. My Total bill came out to $207.45 for a simple oil change. There is no way in heck that a simple oil change should be that much. I went into the ballard location on February 1st, and I simply asked about how much would it cost to flush my rear differential. The attendant told me to go wait inside while he takes a look at my truck. As I was walking into the building, he mentioned to me that I needed new windshield wipers, I told him NO I can install them myself. 45 minutes later, and tells me all the stuff he is doing to my truck. I dont have time to argue with this guy as I am already late for work. I pay and leave. I look back on my receipt and see the following charges 1) 4wd Service 43.99 (wtf? I didnt sign up for 4wd service) 2) Super HM 5W OIL $25.00 + extra 2.50 oil (ok im ok with this amount since its an oil change) 3) Transfer case $49.99 (WTF?! I did not ask for them to change this fluid out, I simply asked how much would it cost....) 4) Premium gearbox fluid $30 ($79.99 for my rear differential fluid to be flushed?! you gotta be kidding me....) 5) Wiper blades 2 for 38 (wtf?! You can get these at costco for 7.99.....). Ok, Maybe I should have argued this amount during the time of payment, but I was super short on time. I then called the store to complain, the store manager said he couldnt do anything for me, and I simple asked for who can help me. He passed my information on to Mark... and he called me back later that day. "MARK" said he would go ahead and reimburse everything except for an oil change. It took 2 months to get this situation resolved, but, it got fixed and Shawn, the owner of Grease Monkey worked his hardest to fix the situation. read more

We came close to getting really screwed by these guys -- if I hadn't made a real effort to stand up for our rights, they definitely would have taken advantage of us. If they try it with you, DON'T let it lie. There are lots of ways to get justice. Here's the story: My husband took our car in for an oil change -- just the standard job, which is what he requested. He waited while they did the work, and when they called him over to pay the bill came to a whopping $92. Turns out they had decided to flush the engine without his knowledge. Not only did they not have permission to perform this service, it was completely unecessary. My husband wasn't sure what to do, so he paid and left. But I was pissed, so I did some research. First I called the state attorney general's office. I found out that what they did was illegal (charging for unecessary repairs) and that I could file a complaint with the AG's office if I wanted to. If enough people filed complaints of the same sort and the attorneys found there was a pattern of illegal activity, they would file a class action lawsuit on behalf of everyone who got taken. I didn't have to resort to any of this, though, because they were actually very receptive when I called to complain. My husband went back and they gave him a full refund. I truly appreciate the way Grease Monkey addressed the problem, but it should never have happened in the first place. This was worse than a deceptive upsell. I encourage everyone who has been taken by these guys to get on the phone and try to get refunded. If it doesn't work, call the Washington State Attorney General's office -- these kinds of things shouldn't be happening to so many people. read more

Fast and friendly, but also pricey. They messed up our tire pressure though after we bought their package for an oil change and other services. The warning light came on afterwards, so we went back later to get it fixed. The warning light remained on. We eventually had to buy our own device to check the tire pressure and discovered that the wheels were around 25 PSI instead of the desired 35 PSI. Not sure how they screwed that up twice. read more

My husband just brought our VW here (mid-week, midday) to get an oil change and brought along the Groupon we had paid for BUT it turns out they were OUT OF OIL and couldn't do the oil change. What? Out of Oil? Isn't that the only thing Grease Monkey does, change oil? He was told they would get some, 'in a couple of days.' If I didn't have a Groupon, I would not return but I don't want to waste my money. Next time, I'll just call ahead to make sure they have stock of the main thing they sell, oil. read more

Rip off!! All of the other reputable places (Walt's and Midas) were busy so I decided against my better judgement to try Grease Monkey. While they are fast, the sales tactics were highly pressed upon me and I ended up spending more than twice as much than I normally would on an oil change ($50!!), especially when they wouldn't accept the coupon on my phone. This place sucks! If you like waiting around, this is the place for you. I was told it would be 20+ minutes to top off the oil in my Saturn! Ridiculous! Jiffy lube brings the oil out to your can while the do the longer changes in the shop. Me & my little convertible will be going there from now on! read more

This shop is right on my block so I first started going here out of convenience...what's better than dropping your car off and then walking home, instead of waiting at the shop while your car gets worked on? The convenience factor for me is definitely part of why I give them 5 stars. I have been taking my car here for regular oil changes and other maintenance for the past 2 years. I have gotten a lot of oil changes and other services at other shops around Seattle (Village Auto Care, Goodyear, Jiffy) and these guys are always the greatest in terms of service and looking out for the customer and their car. They are always able to take my car without an appointment and usually have it done within less than an hour. They always let me know what is recommended service beyond what I pay for, but don't try to force me into getting extra services or make me feel guilty about not keeping my car in tip-top condition all the time (my car is 17 years old...it's not always worth fixing every little thing on it at this point). The first time I ever came here, my car hadn't had an oil change in well over 6 months (oops!) and it needed a lot of other work done on it too...the tab came close to $400 for all of the preventative maintenance and flushes, etc, but I was willing to fork it over since I had been neglecting my car for so long. Since I sort of freaked out a little at the bill, the guy helping me out talked to the manager and was able to get me a 10% discount on all services, just because. Just because. I find that to be excellent service, and it's service like that which keeps me coming back. Most recently, my battery ran out of juice and I purchased a new one hoping that I would be able to get it installed relatively easily and quickly. My friend and I didn't end up having the right tools to get the bolts off the cover that was surrounding the battery, so I took it in to Grease Monkey to have them swap it out. They told me that they don't usually do that, and that they don't have a service charge for changing a battery, but were willing to help me out and change it anyway. The guy that jumped on the job when I arrived, I found out later, was already off work, but spend a good 20 minutes getting my battery switched. Mind you, this is a service they don't even charge for. I tipped the guy who switched my battery because I was really thankful for the service. During the process, the owner came up and introduced himself to me and thanked me for my patronage. I thought it was a good reflection of the professional attitude and service that the guys at the shop always provide. Thanks Grease Monkey, keep up the good work. read more
