Orange Peel Chicken Lunch
Erick G.

I use to go to Grandview ALL the time as a kid back when this place use to be on California Blvd across from Huntington Hospital. They also have another Grandview Palace over in the east side of Pasadena next to guitar center. Grandview is a Pasadena Classic. I came in during lunch time on Friday morning and it was generally pretty slow. We were sat quickly next to a window. The busser/ Server was very attentive and had a strong sense of urgency. Water refill happened instantly and he could anticipate our needs as they came. We ordered and the food came out suspiciously quick. Maybe like 10 minutes tops but it felt like 5. I gave my fiancé the eyebrow raise and said "we probably got some leftovers or something that was sitting out. This came out way too quick" but then we took our first bites and our food was sooo goood. The orange chicken was a bit too acidic but salt fixed that up. Overall 25$ for all this food is a steal so no complaints here. Street Parking is kind of rough in old town Colorado but there are parking structures all around within walking distance. Ambiance was pretty chill and casual. You can tell this place is really only recognized by the Pasadena locals and the elders who heard of this place back in the day. It was generally an older crowd. The outdated interior and worn out menus had a certain type of charm to it but with food prices that low I wouldn't expect a huge renovation on the establishment or material any time soon. "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."

Egg Drop Soup - sooo oily!

This is was my families go to spot for Chinese food, but ever since they moved the food is totally different. I ordered 2 soups today and the egg drop soup is like drinking oil. The food is usually so fresh and flavorful. I have now gone to the new location 3 times and I think it's time to find a new spot.

Delicious Chinese food!! This is a great restaurant, it's very casual but the food is delicious. The portions are good and food arrives very quick. We've gone here a few times and honestly everything that we've tried we liked. We've been to high end Asian food and if honestly doesn't compare. This food is by far the best and the prices are great too. I definitely recommend this spot if you're in the area.

Ambiance: the corner establishment is conveniently located at busy intersections of Union and Raymond in old town Pasadena, indoor dining only, good for takeout or delivery orders Service: fairly fast, well packed food, door to door within one hour Food: plenty choices from the menu, and they have lunch specials, not authentic more fusion style Chinese food Crispy Duck - *** Fried 1/2 duck served with brown sauce, choice of brown rice, the duck meat was too dry, apparently not made freshly, just refried from pre-cooked duck Sizzling Black Pepper Beef - **** Flank steak with onions, bell peppers and straw mushrooms in chef's black pepper sauce, served with white or brown rice, tender beef and rich in flavors, recommend Price: decent portions and reasonable prices, about $20 per person

Happy Family (sorry I was hungry)
Colby D.

I haven't had a lot of amazing Chinese food since moving to LA in 2018, and I dare say the majority of it has been mediocre, so I was pleasantly surprised by my experience with Grandview's food. This was when they were offering takeout only, so I called ahead to order the Happy Family and got home in time to enjoy it before it got cold. It was enough for two meals, so I ate half that night and had the rest for lunch the next day. The Happy Family is a mix of different meats and veggies, with flat noodles, and I thought it was a good item that showcases the quality of their food. It also comes with white rice, so you really get a bit of everything. I was eyeing the honey walnut shrimp, but figured this was a good first-timer item. It was well cooked and seasoned/sauced, and the variety of textures was quite satisfying. I was so hungry that I actually forgot to take a picture until I had plated my first meal, which unfortunately made it look less appetizing but oh well. I can't speak on their service since I had it at home, but I didn't have any issues while going to pick up my food. This is the closest Chinese restaurant to both my current and new apartments, and the only one I've been to so far in Pasadena, so I will likely return (and am looking forward to trying a new item)!

Food comes piping hot and the noodles stay fresh and not bunched together. I have ordered their tomato and egg knife noodle soup twice because I love sweet and savory flavors. The egg portion is generous and the soup is thick and hearty. (A+) Their beef noodle soup is excellent as well-packed with lots of flavor and ingredients. Great for hot or cold nights! (A) Their lamb skewers were flavorful but a little on the tougher side. I had lamb skewers that melt in your mouth before and this didn't quite measure up. Perhaps it was sitting in the foil too long? Could be a delivery issue. You probably have to have it straight out of the kitchen. (B+) Will definitely be returning to try all their other items. Of course, I went in because I already know the quality of their food. I always find their noodles fresh and chewy, and the dishes are rich in texture and flavor. But this time, since I was by myself, I didn't order a noodle dish because I was just by myself. So, I ordered the beef roll, which is also to die for! Just really enjoy their food overall. If you've never tried Noodle Street before, definitely check out their menu and give their noodles a try. This particular location was clean, the staff was nice, and the wait wasn't long when I arrived. I would definitely come back again! I'd like to add one more detail. While I was waiting for my food, one of the staff members, possibly the manager, Justin, came over and asked if I'd like to have a small bowl of broth on the side. I said yes and was impressed by that offer. Why? This young man understood that I had ordered only the beef roll, which is a dry dish. Having a little warm broth on the side made it much easier and more enjoyable to eat. I had water, though, but I personally never drink water before or after my meal, so the broth was definitely a perfect complement to the beef roll. This is the first time in my Noodle Street eating history that I've been offered something simple to enhance my dining experience. A small gesture that I think is worth mentioning, as it showed that he was attentive and had very good common sense when it comes to customer service. Thumbs up to him, and an extra star from me for this location.

I totally forgot about parking and the one way streets so I had to do a lap just to find a parking structure that was right across the street from the restaurant. When I arrived I was not expecting the restaurant to look as nice and clean as it did. I thought it was going to be a small hole-in-the-wall type of joint but it's actually a very nice restaurant. There was a lot of space and a lot of seating. Once we decided on on what we wanted we decided to do family style and ordered, shrimp and pork shumai, pork dumplings, spicy pork wontons and kung pao shrimp. I decided to go with the passion fruit tea with half sweetener but I probably should have went with 75%. It was still pretty good but could have been better. I loved the pork dumplings and the kung pao shrimp the best. The service was quick, fast and effective. Anytime we needed something, they were right there to provide, sauces, water and silverware when needed. They also start you out with peanuts and hot tea for the table and I thought that was cool. Overall, it was pretty good! I still have my favorite dumpling spots and I've definitely had better sumai but it wasn't bad. I would go back again but I would also check to see if there was something better if ever in the area. OOOO 4 out of 5 Afros

Bowls of steamed rice cost $2.50, and we each got one. Portions are generously large and worth the cost; we took leftovers home. The tea offered to us tasted good. The slippery shrimp had a nice crisp with a pleasant blend of sweet, tangy, and spicy flavors. There's a slight spice from the red chili that felt mild on my tongue. This was our first time trying out the dish, and we liked it the most. The orange chicken tasted solid, and it had a slightly crispy texture. For some reason, the rice had an aftertaste I wasn't familiar with, but it was still fresh. There was a fortune cookie at the end of our meal. I'd come back for the slippery shrimp and order something other than the orange chicken. The restaurant opened at 11:30 am, and we were one of the first customers to dine in. The ambience was quiet and relaxed, but they got busier as many more people arrived. Service was good as the staff packed our leftovers in containers for us. Our server asked us where we were from as he was used to seeing regulars during the time we visited. When we tried to reason with him and reminded him of our 20-year loyalty, Phil literally said, "That's not my problem," and "I don't care." Everyone knows that businesses are struggling in this economy, and a manager with this kind of attitude is definitely not making things any better for the restaurant. The pricing of the items ranged from $8-$10 per item we ordered which is expensive but as a treat every once in a while and for the amount of time and effort that goes into making dim sum, it was worth it. If you're a fan of bold, authentic flavors and reliable service, this spot is definitely worth visiting. Tip - If you're new to the cuisine, I strongly recommend getting everything MILD spicy. I've been told by some of my colleagues that MILD spicy is still pretty spicy, so be warned. With that said, strongly recommend the dishes below. Lamb with Cumin 11/10 - My favorite dish here by far. Aromatic, flavorful, and the spices are just on point. Dan Dan Noodles 9/10 - Solid and consistently good. The sauce is properly seasoned and truly compliments the perfectly cooked noodles. Shredded Cabbage with Pork 9/10 - Not to be confused with twice cooked pork. This dish is so simple and bland looking, but it's packed with flavor... so good! Garlic Pork Belly 8/10 - This is a cold dish. The meat was perfectly cooked and properly coated in chili oil. Solid and consistently good. The Sichuan Boiled Blackfish is delicious if you can share with a friend. Be warned --- also very spicy. The fish is so tender and I found myself sipping the addicting lava broth. It hurt so good. I would not order the Dan Dan Noodles or Diced Chicken with Spicy Chilies again. I felt like there wasn't enough chicken and the dan dan noodles had a weird musty flavor that I didn't resonate with. I prefer the Taiwanese version a little more. My last words, be careful with your spice tolerance. Leave your pride at the door and go a or two notch lower. I had stomach cramps afterwards. I would definitely go back again for the Mapo Tofu. The server found my little puddle of sweat adorable, and gave me napkins. Bless her heart.
