Hmm...so this is the spot in the area if you are looking for gluten free options. I get the mom and pop shops have to charge a bit more to stay in business but I never feel like I am getting good value for my money when coming here. I ordered the crabmeat with penne entree and informed the person taking my order please sub out the penne for spaghetti. Not only did I get my meal with penne but it had a minuscule amount of crabmeat in it. I am talking this crabmeat must have all been in the sauce or something as I could not even see it. This entree was not cheap by any means. My girlfriend got a chicken dish and the chicken was very thin.....is this a good thing? Is this the trend now in restaurants? My girlfriend enjoyed it but again is twenty plus dollars reasonable for chicken with gluten free pasta? They have a bakery that makes many options and most are gluten free, which is nice as I feel for those that must adhere to a gluten free diet and the options can be sparse at many restaurants unfortunately in the US. Every topping is $2 extra and the small pizza isn't that big but it's $14... they miscalculated my total and charged me an extra $5, so make sure you add up your total accurately. I have heard amazing things about this business, and decided to take the 45-min drive, today Dec 10, 2022 around 4:30 pm on my birthday to grab some Gluten free treats. I was most excited for their cannolis, since so haven't had one in 6 years! Upon entering their establishment with my family, I waited in front of the small bakery counter, as two people worked in the back making food. I continued to patiently wait, as the gentleman working the pizza ovens kept glancing my way, never offering a simple, "hello, how can I help you." "Did u order," he said pointing to me. Before I could answer no, and tell him I wanted to ask what was in the bakery case, he cut me off and told me to wait. This left a bad taste in my mouth. After assisting the woman in front of us, he looked at my family and asked them, "are you dining in?" We told him no, that we were just going to get some baked goods. Again, before so could finish, he said, "what do ya need, I got lotsa pizzas to make," perhaps in not the most welcoming way. That should have been my cue to turn around and walk out, but we ended up getting a few cookies and a strawberry shortcake, spending 9 dollars too much. I was not impressed with the customer service and this gentleman unwilling to be kind and helpful. I WILL NOT be back to this establishment. This is a cool little back shop that also sells pizza, strange I know, but let me tell you about it. I haven't had any of their pastries or anything other then their pizza, so I will only speak to their pizza. If you are in this area or even if you have to travel you have to get the Rosa sauce pizza. It is by far one of the best vodka sauces I have ever had on a pizza. And one of the best pizzas I can say I have had hands down (and trust me I eat a lot of flippin pizza). Price is honestly not bad if you are one person a family might get costly but a small pizza is good enough for even a pretty decent appetite. Service is friendly and quick and the ambiance is a cute little bakery with a few seats for eat it. Check em out if you can I really hope you'll like it like I did. read more

Visited Grandma's Grotto after hearing about their gluten free options. My fiancée is gluten free so we're always looking for restaurants that can accommodate. I have to say that this is THE BEST gluten free restaurant we've been to. This place is now my fiancée's favorite restaurant and definitely high up on my list. Our minds were blown. Not only do they have plentiful gluten free options, but they also have some of the best damn Italian food I've eaten. We would never have known from the location on Easton Road and modest exterior what a gem this place is. We dined on a Saturday night and it wasn't all that busy. They display their baked goods at the entrance as wells as sell cup for cup gluten free flour at a decent price! The service was friendly and quick, and when we were seated we were offered gluten free menus. That's right. This place has an ENTIRE gluten free menu. And it's just as big as the regular menu! We started off with the gluten free options of garlic bread and mozzarella sticks. Both were delicious. It was a bit more obvious that the garlic bread was gluten free, but still top notch for gluten free. For entrees, I went with the Chicken Parmigiana and my fiancée chose the gluten free Chicken Francese. Both were served with penne. I tried my fiancées chicken and pasta and both were excellent. Couldn't tell there was no gluten. As for my dish, the chicken parm was excellent; one of the best I've had. Cooked perfectly and the sauce was incredible; just the right amount of sweetness. The portions were so generous that we had to get a to-go bag. We were shocked to learn that ALL of the desserts were gluten free. This is unprecedented. Cookies. Biscotti. Éclairs. Cannoli. Cakes. Pies. All gluten free. We tried the éclairs and biscotti. Again, we couldn't tell the difference. Phenomenal. We'll be going back to Grandma's Grotto very soon, but probably not soon enough as we live a little ways away in Exton. They have really good gluten free dinners & desserts. I got the Fettuccine Alfredo with shrimp for dinner & cheese bread. Which I loved the Alfredo & it was 2 meals for me. They could have put more shrimp in it being the dish was $29.0the bread bags were only $2.50 & wanted to see how it tasted in hopes it could replace my $7.99 g/f sandwich rolls but it was very dense, dry & hard to swallow so I wasn't impressed with the bread. I love their desserts & it was my birthday so I got a g/f chocolate chip cannoli; very expensive. They don't have a very big dining section; it's only a few tables & when my friend & I had 1st gone the owner & cook were the only two people their & he was extremely rude to the point we left & went to Carrabba's instead. I wanted to still try their food so I decided to do take instead. We were flying through from Newark Airport to Philly and hungry. Randomly choose exit #343 off the Turnpike and randomly picked this place. JOY! We shared a Vodke Pizza with mushrooms (a delightful first!) and a side of sauteed spinach (perfectly prepared.) John is a very sweet man and we bought some Italian cookies to bring home to my parents. Try the walnut cookies! Crumbly, gently sweet, melt in your mouth. We have been coming to Grandmas for years (keep coming back because there are only so many gluten free places - especially with fries). The food is ok, the prices aren't great at all (especially considering the quality of the food you're getting.) Consistently every other time one of our pizzas crust is burned. Confirmed with one of the girls working there that ALL of their fries are gluten free, however if you're ordering online and select "gluten free" you're charged additional. The owner, John, is rude. If you ever have the pleasure of him answering the phone and having to take your order, he somehow makes it seem like you're bothering him, as he's busy making pizzas and will often mention you should really order online instead of calling in. Like he's doing you a favor by taking your order when, in the current state of the economy, he should be grateful when someone chooses to spend their hard earned dollar at his establishment. Aside from that, their GF soups are good, their bakery cookies have pretty good flavor, but are often dry, but the pies are delicious. Just do yourself a favor and order online if you can. I was offered a buy one get one free chicken parm entree, and seek as this is a favorite in my family- we gladly took them up on their offer. Ordering was easy online. When you pull up- they bring the food out to your car. This was our first time and I found this process good. They also put the food containers in a pizza box to make for easier transporting- very thoughtful. The first thing I noticed was the extremely strong smell of raw red onions. The salads has so many red onions on it- and they were so smelly it seemed they may have sat for a while. I don't know for sure because I don't enjoy raw onions and the amount and odor were completely off-putting. The chicken parm itself was extremely thin... and soaked in so much sauce it became soggy. There were points where there was no chicken and just breading I was eating (like paper thin chicken- all breading no chicken!) The pasta was doughy- which maybe means it was made fresh. It wasn't my favorite- but my family loved it. The sauce was good. Personally, I would try other dishes here- but I found the chicken parm underwhelming. While yes, I did receive one of these meals for free- the meals themselves cost $18, and I am not certain that the meal is worth that much! read more

Came back for another Valentine's dinner and it was chaotic at best. We walked in and there were a bunch of people waiting for take out orders and to be seated. I had made a reservation but nobody greeted us as we walked in. I grabbed one of the employees and she said she'd be right with us. Probably 10 minutes went by before we even were acknowledged again. We finally got seated and I noticed two of the servers walking around with children in their arms while delivering food, drinks and other items. Now I understand it's a family owned place and it can be tough to find a babysitter, but I can't understate how unsanitary and gross this really is. There was no way to prevent the baby from grabbing the glass, plate or anything they were carrying, and the babies were crying and such at different times while this was going on. Luckily my server was not carrying a baby or else I would've gotten up and walked out. It's a shame because our food was delicious and hot and pretty much perfect, but even our server was taking forever to refill drinks, clear plates or any of the usual stuff. It was busy, but not overly busy to where they should've been struggling, especially with the amount of staff walking around (I noticed at least four servers). It's a shame because I love the food and they offer a huge gluten free menu, which works for my gluten intolerant fiancé, but this really soured me. read more

Dined here for the first time and I will definitely be back! I have celiac disease so I can only comment on the gluten free food, but everything was great. If you're like me, you know how hard it is to find something on a menu (especially at an Italian restaurant) that you can eat. What a treat to be able to eat pretty much anything you want! I had garlic bread, pizza, fried calamari, lasagna, and an assortment of desserts. Yes, you can tell that the bread and pizza is GF, but that's kinda just how it goes with all GF breads. I couldn't tell any difference with the calamari, lasagna or desserts though! They were all delicious and everyone there was so nice. Bonus points that it's a BYOB because we all love those. It's nothing fancy inside, and maybe a little pricey, but I'm willing to look past those because of how rare of a gem this place is. I imagine everything is good considering how good the GF stuff was! If this place closed, I would be quite depressed. read more

Don't expect to feed your family with their gluten-free pizzas. Had driven by this place a number of times, and since going wheat-free a few months back, kept meaning to try it out. On a whim, a friend and I ordered a large meat lovers pizza and picked it up on the way home. Went in, it was ready for us, paid, and walked out. On the way to the car I noticed the pizza felt really light and off-centered in the box. I opened the box and found a 12-inch pie (see photo). We thought maybe they had made a mistake, so we went in and asked if we had gotten the large ($21) pizza we ordered. The man behind the counter confirmed it was the correct pie and spouted off some B.S. excuse about how the yeast has been reacting oddly due to the weather lately. I was shocked. I must have said "wow" about 4 times. If it hadn't been for my shock and the fact that there was another woman there in the middle of being helped when I walked back in, I probably would have asked for a refund. In retrospect I should have. The pizza was just "okay" in the taste department. It's clearly a pre-made frozen pizza, with little taste and a cardboard-like crust texture. I couldn't even finish my share of the pizza. In the trash it went. I am all for supporting small local businesses, but I have no plans of returning to Grandma's Grotto. Check out Jules Thin Crust in Doylestown, Newtown, or Jenkintown if you want a quality, fresh-made, gluten-free pie. read more

I dined here with my family because we heard about their extensive gluten free menu. My brother, a 7 year old Celiac, used to enjoy all kinds of italian foods before his diagnosis, and over the last few years it has been very difficult having to deny him of the foods like bread and pasta that he loves. There are plenty of places that offer tasteless, cardboard gluten-free menu items, but Grandma's Grotto is not one of those places at all! Everything- gluten-free or not, was delicious! Finding a place like this was an emotional experience for us. Those of us who can eat gluten take slices of bread, pasta and cakes for granted, and Celiacs (especially children) can feel so alienated by their dietary restrictions. It was a very moving experience for us to ALL sit down and be able to eat pizza together. Their desserts are out of this world as well. I had the pistachio cake and it was downright amazing. I dined here because my brother has Celiac disease and my family almost lives here due to their extensive gluten free menu. Italian food is one of my least favorites but I decided to try it out with my family. This is a very obvious family owned business. Everyone is so unbelievable friendly and genuine. The ambiance is very Italy-like. I ordered shrimp and crab pasta in a vodka sauce. It was incredible. Not being an Italian fan, this means a lot. We decided to walk over to the bakery side to grab some to-go desserts and the baker gave us two free gluten free cupcakes and cake which would have cost around $15. Meanwhile, we left our personal belongings and food at our table. Please tell me which chain restaurant you could do this in without worrying that someone would steal your things. That alone deserves 5 stars! read more

This place is a haven for people with Celiac or gluten intolerance. Not only was the staff friendly and accomodating, both the gluten free and non gluten free menu were extensive. Somehow, our waiter was able to juggle a table of 14 of us, without even breaking a sweat and remaining pleasant and patient. As someone with Celiac disease, I occasionally feel awkward about voicing my dietary restrictions to the server. Not here. The server was knowledgeable about Celiac and gluten free food, and most importantly was very polite. They offer a variety of Italian style foods, from lasagna, to pasta, to pizzas. These were all also offered as a gluten free option. I decided to order the GF lasagna, since that is an item I haven't been able to find anywhere gluten free since my Celiac diagnosis! The lasagna was delicious, and the sauce tasted fresh and homemade. Out of the large party I went with, most ordered different kinds of GF pizzas. They all had a smile on their face and said that the pizza was tasty, and that the crust was good. The most exciting thing by far was the huge dessert case full of authentic Italian style desserts, ALL gluten free!! They had cookies, canoli, cakes, pies and more. Our server actually took the time to meet us over at the dessert case and explain each item to us. I had a raspberry and chocolate "robin's egg" which tasted like a cross between a truffle and a denser cake with raspberry. Very good. The last thing that I wanted to mention about Grandma's Grotto is that they also sell gluten free flour (for those of us that want to venture in GF baking) and GF ice cream cones. Went there for lunch yesterday. As others have noted, it's along a busy highway, but at lunch we were literally the only ones there, so parking and getting in and out was not a problem. It's across from a deserted Air Base, which I heard has been abandoned the past 4 or 5 years. I expect this place would have gotten a lot more people when the base was open. I had "The Uptown", a grilled chicken panini with roasted peppers, portobello mushrooms, pesto sauce and melted provalone. It was very good. Also had the side salad, which was fairly simple, but huge. I suspect if it's as empty as it was yesterday that it can't survive, which would be a shame since the menu looks terrific and the food was good. read more

I love it! THIS is the place my wife and I go for Italian. Their penne and vodka sauce with chicken is divine. Their meatball Stromboli is perhaps the best I've had. Outside is nice and crispy, and the insides aren't soggy with meatball grease. Be prepared for some hearty portions because its family styled cuisine here at this gem. We called about our pickup order missing an item, couldn't reach a person, left a voicemail, sent a Facebook message, and received absolutely no response at all. I have been really skeptical of GF "real food" because it typically doesn't taste the same, as much as people try. This restaurant got it though. I ordered the GF spaghetti bolognese and it was delicious! Even my very fussy 2 yr old ate it, and that speaks volumes. I ordered the GF vodka pizza and it was also good, very creamy sauce. We were so pleasantly surprised last night when we went to Grandmas Grotto. We ordered the chicken parmesan, mozzarella sticks and the vodka penne. I'm a foodie and this place did not disappoint. Both dishes were absolutely delicious. We got some of the baked goods on the way out to bring home. These were equally as good. In particular, the lemon cookies, oatmeal cookies and sprinkle cookies were awesome. While we were there we saw a friend picking up 3 pizzas and he raved about the pizza. I've tried other gluten free bakeries nearby and nothing was as good as these baked goods. You would never know the cookies are gluten free. We will definitely be back.
