Like, Share, and follow - https://www.facebook.com/BaldWhiteGuyReviews Grand Oriental Chinese Restaurant-- BaldWhiteGuyReviews ‍ Time flies, kids forget passports, and dads get a rare day off -- which I immediately spent doing what any responsible parent would do: drag my son to a new restaurant and then reward him with lunch. He forgot his passport (top secret co-op stuff, apparently), so we met halfway-ish and let Yelp play help find a new place to try. That's how we found Grand Oriental -- a big, festive palace of American-Chinese comfort food and decorative bravado Grand Oriental 4800 Fields Ertel Rd, Cincinnati. Parking & Entrance Parking: angled, on a slight hill, and perfect for anyone who enjoys a little cardio while exiting their car. If you have equilibrium issues, bring a friend or a very dramatic cane. Walk the red carpet like you're famous (or at least like you once were #Santa in the Christmas Program) and step into a dining room that screams "special occasion" louder than your drunk uncle at a wedding. #WeSeeYou Decorations Huge space, lots of lanterns, and more faux-oriental flair than a Netflix period drama on a budget. The place looks like someone told Pinterest to go wild and then hired a very enthusiastic intern to execute it. If prom and homecoming had a love child, this would be the reception venue. Very Instagrammable -- bring a filter and a dramatic pose. They even have a golden throne #Seriously. The Wet Live Well They've got a big wet live well -- yes, an actual aquarium of potential dinner guests. Do I think they fish out a crab and whisper "you're up" before tossing him into a wok? Some call it fresh; others call it barbaric reality TV for crustaceans. Either way, the seafood looks like it just finished updating its LinkedIn. #FearFactor Bathroom Report Bathroom: shockingly clean and tastefully decorated. If the restroom is this tidy, you know the kitchen isn't hiding any skeletons -- just maybe a very well-behaved crab. What We Ate * Appetizer: Crab Rangoon -- $6.99 Warm, creamy, and dangerously addictive. Came with two mystery sauces: one was sweet (dessert-adjacent and delightful), the other had a wasabi vibe that made my face do a small, respectful salute. I'm still not sure if the second sauce was wasabi or a tiny jar of regret, but it worked. It was a surprise, no mention of sauces on the menu. (That I could find anyway). * Half-ling's Meal: Sweet & Sour Chicken with Fried Rice -- $11.99 Predictable in the best way. Comfort food for people who like their food to behave itself. The fried rice, however, was quietly excellent -- the unsung hero of the table. * My Choice: Hunan Beef with Fried Rice -- $12.99 Hunan Beef is my yardstick. This one had a pleasant kick that made my nose run like it had opinions. Local Hunan still wins my heart #DragonInn, but this one is a solid contender. Total Lunch Damage: $34.46 (waters included, because hydration is free and important) Final Thoughts (and the part where I pretend to be impartial) The Grand Oriental is a great spot for a special lunch or to impress guests who like their ambiance with a side of theatrical lighting. Staff were friendly and fast -- service points for speed and smiles. Food was solid, comforting, and exactly what you expect from a good American-Chinese joint: familiar, warm, and occasionally surprising (looking at you, mystery sauce). #HotHot Final Score: 3 out of 5 Bald Heads ‍‍‍ Why I docked two Bald Heads: * Minus one for predictably (Boring) American-Chinese flavors -- tasty, but not revolutionary. * Minus one for price -- lunch felt a tad steep. Maybe you're paying extra for the live well's real estate and the decorative chandelier that's clearly on a #FingerHut payment plan. #CheapOldMan Would I go back? Sure -- for a special night, a prom afterparty, or if my son forgets something else important. Would I drive across town just for their Hunan? Not this time. Have you been here? What was your favorite Dish??? Like, Share, Follow -- BaldWhiteGuyReviews If you laughed, cried, or felt personally attacked by the mystery sauce, hit that follow button. More dad-ventures, parking-lot acrobatics, and culinary honesty coming your way. ‍ #BaldWhiteGuyReviews #GrandOriental #CincyEats #DadLife #CrabRangoon #HunanBeef #FoodReview #SupportLocal #SarcasmIncluded #EatLikeYouMeanIt

We were in the area and looking for something for dinner and so glad we found this place. All the good Chinese places around us have went out of business so we've been really looking for some good oriental food. Such a cute Place good service. Huge menu. Some things were very authentic. We shared the Szechuan shrimp and the orange shrimp. The shrimp were very large good texture. We had read about the turnip cake as an appetizer which very bizarre but everybody seem to like it so we gave it a try. If you didn't know what it was you would never in the world guess turnip anything. It really didn't wasn't bad it didn't have much flavor whatever sauce you put on it. I like trying new things I don't know if I would get the turnip cake again but I'm glad I tried it it was not bad. Only bad thing is when I open my fortune cookie it didn't have a fortune so that seems foreboding LOL

Back for a quality check !! ....... And still amazing ... got my all three faves, the Hong Kong, chicken, Mongolian beef, and of course, three orders of the crab Rangoon's. Everything was fabulous as usual and will definitely be back as always.

Very pretty place inside and out. Wife loved the throne in the lobby and the huge tanks of fish and crabs. Service was quick a the server was very helpful with questions we had. Wife prefers shrimp dishes so that's what we went with.

Has changed ownership. Only have tried delivery so far. I like the hunan chicken and fried rice, potstickers. The crab rangoon is better elsewhere.

Happy people eating dim sum

My favorite place for dim sum. They have all my favorites. Chicken feet, shrimp and chive dumplings, turnip cake, rice with sausage and tiny shrimp, pork bao, egg custard. A selection of yummy teas as well. I'm a regular.

Inside looks cool. Great service. The older man is so kind. Food is good. Best dim sum I've had in the area. Come and try yourself.

This well-established Chinese restaurant is the authentic real deal! I've done their take-out twice and then hosted 15 friends to dinner there, and it has never disappointed. The interior is ornate and manages to be both beautiful and informal. They could easily accommodate my group, setting 2 tables of eight in the back of the room, which made it both private and quiet. The menus were amazingly impressive -- a legal-pad sized two-sided laminated sheet packed full of options. Plus a separate long description of dim sum options you could order with the meal. They seemed a little stingy with the menus -- giving us only 4 for both tables. But I found more on a stand, and my friends didn't seem to mind passing the menus back and forth. And the food is excellent. One member bought crab rangoon orders for the table, which were crispy and just oozing with cream cheese goodness. I have also tried their General Tso's Chicken, chicken with black bean sauce, beef with vegetables and Kung Pao Shrimp. They were all well-made. The flavor profile is mild but flavorful and the vegetables are fresh and crisp. But I discovered that if I wanted my level of spice (which is a little heat), I can just order one of the dishes designated as hot, like the Kung Pao Sprimp, and the heat level fits my palate perfectly. I also loved the sesame balls and the coconut pudding -- a coconut-flavored gelatin. All in all, Grand Oriental delivered with authentic taste, huge portions, timely service, and a great atmosphere.

My friend took me here for Sunday dim sum and I'm glad she did. I was missing some dim sum from Southern California and I really didn't know where to go lol. Anywho the interior of the restaurant is super classical Chinese which is really cute. The dim sum carts had a nice variety of options. We ordered the shumai, hargow, soup dumpling, bbq pork buns, shrimp rice noodle rolls, and fried shrimp balls. Service was good and everything was just a nice overall good experience. Highly recommend coming here for dim sum. I am very curious what their dinner is like so I might come back here to try their non dim sum items. Looking forward to it!

Checked this place out on Friday night and it was such a pleasant surprise. Though they seemed busy with takeout orders, they do have an expansive, ornate dining room. Lots of good options on the menu but not many details if you're unfamiliar with some dishes. Friendly service!

We got several dim sum dishes and they were all delicious! The shu mai, eggplant shrimp, and rice roll were our favorites.

The dim sum tastes good but over prized comparing to other similar Chinese restaurants near Mason.

Hands down the best dim sum in the country - Phil and Kenny who own the place are the greatest. Can't ever go wrong with the food here.

They were very…read moreshort-staffed and I think the bartender did everything but cook-she did a great job with what she had. Atmosphere is a bit mixed as it looks like several themes, and maybe because of multiple name changes. I will go back and hope they give this menu a chance. For folks who like this type of food, I do suggest you try it.

We came in because of the new signage that was put up got our attention! The food was really great!…read moreI got the fish and chips, the batter on the fish was light and seasoned great, fried to perfection and my husband got the chicken parmesan sandwich marinara sauce was so tasty! Both were delicious! We started with charred boiled oysters also great! My only suggestion is and it is not a complaint is the that the servers needed help! I am sure that during this rebranding it's hard to keep people because business is slow. Our server was great ! She and the bartender were the only people there on the floor. The place was not full but our server the blond hair lady but busting tail, she was hustling she at one point look like she had at least eleven tables, inside and out! She was obviously great at her job but we probably would have ordered more but didn't want her stretch her more than she was! I am assuming maybe some called off or did show up for their shift but with a great server like her, she might not stick around long because she is being stretched thin! Food is great you guys got that down but the atmosphere is what needs improvement! But we will be back the food is worth it!
