This place is located conveniently right off the highway exit. They've got their own parking lot and can be seen from the big White Castle. Apparently, stuff I've found on the Yelp app about this location is inaccurate. There are no pineapple rolls or complementary peanuts. These things are more than ten years old. The prices are significantly higher and there are many different things here. The menu says they're voted number one in the city of Cincinnati. The food was very good but I think the food is prepared ahead of time. The rice was dry and sticky and the egg roll was very dry even though it had a lot of vegetables in it. I liked the food and would order it again. The lunch meals do not come with soup or an egg roll like most Chinese lunch spots. read more

Went here first time 2-3 weeks ago. My wife is from Beijing, so we have had Peking Duck at many authentic restaurants. This place ranks up there with best Peking Duck. I bought a certificate for this restaurant (certificate voucher is good for $20 worth of food and you pay $10 for it). When I took my certificate into the restaurant to use, they told me (he seems like the owner) told me they are not honoring the certificates right now. I asked if that was stated anywhere on the website when I purchase the certificate and they said it is not, but they are allowed to choose what dates they accept them on. So they didn't mind taking my money for a certificate but I suppose they will let me know if/when, in the future, I can use it. Yikes, shady. read more

"Dimsum" is a traditional meal served in China as a lively tea-time brunch affair, with family and friends sharing a multitude of small, steamed and braised tapa dishes served off of rolling carts. At Casual Chinese, dimsum service starts at 10:30AM every Saturday and Sunday. 100% homemade, made from scratch dimsum, served from a rolling steam cart as God intended. Properly strong oolong tea or fragrant, non-caffeinated chrysanthemum "ju hua" tea, served by the kettle. All the expected fixings like glass shrimp dumplings, xiao long bao, charsiu buns, shumai, and the traditional dimsum dishes like chicken feet, tripe, banana leaf wrapped sticky pork rice, and pork rib cutlets. The flavors are excellent, but what really gets me is the sublime, juicy-firm texture of the various meats and dumplings - a hallmark of dimsum that has never, ever been frozen. I've tried their normal menu too - their beef ho fun is decadent, satisfying, and filled with that wok hei smoky flavor. As a Chinese American myself, I had all but given up on finding good dimsum in Cincinnati. The only places that I know of either serve dimsum to order only (rather than by cart), or their dimsum is clearly frozen and premade, or both. That changes with Casual Chinese Plus. Whatever ethnicity or background you may be, I highly encourage you to bring your family over, and enjoy brunch the Chinese way. read more

I just visited this location for the first time and I must say it was a great, amazing, wonderful, excellent experience! As soon as I walked inside the door they were waving and smiling. The restaurant was definitely busy with plenty of people inside but that didn't stop them from being so friendly. Thank you guys for just being so amazing and providing wonderful and great customer service. Definitely to the manager she is top-notch amazing & awesome. Just sitting there waiting on my order watching her interact with each customer and then turning around and helping the team out just had a smile on my face the whole time! Since moving from Houston, I've been seriously lacking for Asian food, especially dim sum. This place has finally filled the void for me. Loved the carts and the spread of dishes they had, especially the cheung fun. I'm not a shrimp person but the shrimp dumplings and siomai were bursting with shrimp. In house made dim sum by a Cantonese dim sum chef. They have pushing carts every Saturday and Sunday Brunch. They also have authentic Chinese food and seafood that made in different Chinese cooking techniques. Everything is great here. Our family all enjoyed the delicious dim sum Chinese brunch! It's made from scratch and very authentic. Our favorite was the rice noodle rolls with shrimp inside. I've eaten here several times every time I visit Cincinnati. I actually give the the food 5 stars but the owner/host is unprofessional. His attitude is lousy. We've come there several times already and the dim sums were always amazing, seemed to be freshly made not frozen. Good main dishes as well, whether they are fried rice, sauteed veggies, mushu pork, etc. Service was excellent as we were attended in all our needs. I have seen this restaurant for many years but it is close to my favorite Indian Restaurant so it was hard to change course. Glad I did, the place itself is minimally decorated but I'm not her for the ambiance, I'm here for some good food. And GREAT food was what I had. My company orders lunch from here about once a month. We ordered on 8/22/19, were told the lunch menu has changed and soup no longer comes with it. They were either out of stock or no longer carry a few other dishes we attempted to order. After picking up our order we noticed the size and quality of food has also changed and not for the better. Although not on the same level as breakfast in Taiwan, it comes close to it. You can order warm soymilk (salty or sweet) with some Chinese donuts. Try the Chinese breakfast menu and order the Sesame Shaobing with Egg - its a good combo with the sweet soymilk. Lots of other breakfast items to choose from. read more

Now under a new owner, the food here is in line with what I miss from the Greater Los Angeles area. If you like spicy like I do, then there are some pretty good selections (mabo tofu, spicy fish, etc). If you prefer a less fiery dish, you're in luck too (tea smoked duck for example). Want something simple for the colder weather? Try the noodle soup with beef brisket. All-in-all, a good place to come with friends and family and picking a selection of dishes to try out. read more

Never actually ate here. I live about 1/2 hr away and stopped by after having purchased a Local Flavor deal (similar to groupon). The expiration is Nov 2023. Upon entering we had the certificate in hand. The owner told us they no longer accept this deal (that I paid for). What a scam. No sign on the door saying they won't honor the certificate. I have purchased many of these over the years and I believe this is only the 2nd time I've encountered this sort of issue. House of Sun, you've done it again! Came here for a second (third?!) round of Taiwanese breakfast this past weekend and brought my man-friend along since he had never tried it. This meant I was in charge of all of the ordering etc, so as per usual, I over-ordered. We got: Shaobing with egg Fried dough sticks Sticky rice ball (sweet) Hot soy milk (sweet) Green onion pancake (with beef) Dumplings I got super excited when I saw jellyfish on the menu so I ordered some of that as well but they were out :( I'm pretty sure the waitress was unsure of what to do with me. She kept giving me incredulous looks and asking me to repeat my order just to be sure, but I know I impressed her because she came back with a pair of chopsticks and took our forks away when she brought our food! All of our food was a whopping $23 dollars!! And so very delicious. Come for the weekend to see what I'm talking about- if you are a true foodie you will not be disappointed! My family has been going here for years for their authentic Chinese food. I can only talk about ordering off the Chinese menu (but their is some english). Service and the food is always great. On this occasion we ordered the steamed fish, eggplant, sweet and sour pork ribs, pig intestine hot pot, Chinese broccoli, shredded pork and bamboo shoots. Sometimes the steamed fish is under-cooked and needs to be sent back to cook more, but the taste and the sauce is on point. All the food is pretty authentic and good. Pig intestine is a acquired taste, but the hotpot sauce is very rich. The eggplant was fresh, served in tasty dark garlic sauce. Sweet and sour pork ribs had well balanced flavors and a good amount of meat. Would like to stray a bit from the typical dim sum menu? Then I encourage the path of the Taiwanese breakfast menu on the weekend at House of Sun. Rule #1 Refer to photos to initiate Pavlovian conditioning Rule #2 Travel in pack of 4, which will maximize menu coverage, and still be able to share dishes equally. Rule #3 You must try the Salty Rice ball as this was my favorite item Rule #4 Order the tofu pudding-reglar toward the end, as this is more of a dessert item and you want the dish warm. But, to warn you, this is far from the best tofu pudding I have had. We ordered about 11 items and the total came out to about $40 including tax and tip for a pack of 4. read more

I found it quite improbable that there would be genuinely tasty Chinese food in this part of Cincinnati, but my prejudices were pleasantly rebutted. We saw quite a few plausible (and implausible) things on the menu, then asked if there was another menu and were given the Chinese menu, with many more exciting things. That said, we didn't order very well-- our cabbage with bean-curd skins was still fairly compelling even though it was quite bland and tasted just like . . . cabbage, and our yu hsian fish was pretty good, but too overwhelmingly fishy/briny for my own taste (and I like pretty strongly flavored fish). Pan-fried noodles were also a disappointment. But everything else we saw roll out toward other people's tables-- korean pork soup with pickled vegetables, some sort of mysterious sizzling rice thing, assorted rolls of vegetables and shrimp, etc.-- looked incredibly good. I would go back, with renewed hope, if I were nearby. (Hopefully in the interim, other Yelpers will have better luck, so we will know what to order!) read more

I must confess that the only thing I really order at any kind of Asian dining is Beef Fried Rice. I know, I know- American with no spirit of adventure for palette broadening. Here's what I would say about the House of Sun. The Beef Fried Rice was only so-so. Some of the rice was undercooked, and it was lacking in beef. I ordered two egg rolls, which combined would have equaled one egg roll at any other restaurant- they were good though, and if they weren't $1.85 each I would probably get them next time. About time I reviewed this place which I visit whenever I go back home: Amazing authentic home-cooked food and so very inexpensive. Not a glammed up place but one of our go-tos for our fave dishes, including bean curd with pork, water spinach, and sweet sticky rice (those are my attempts to translate the Chinese names). If you know what to order (go with the authentic side of the menu, and if you're unsure which dishes fit that category bring a friend who could help!), you'll love this place that is on par with many of the best in Flushing NY. If I could give this no stars i would. I have had food from here in the past and it was good. Yesterday i ordered Almond chicken and Lo Mein. First indication that things were going to be bad was the Crab Rangoon. I took a bite and it had a sour taste. I spit it right out. I opened the Almond chicken and it was like none I have ever had. The sauce tasted old and had minimal flavor. I didn't feel safe eating that either. So i pitched it. The Egg drop soup smelled suspicious, so i didn't risk that either. The Lo Mein noodles were soggy and did not taste fresh. I will not be back. And i wouldn't advise any one else to either. read more

Great Taiwanese breakfast on weekends. I love the sweet soy milk and fan tuan (sticky rice ball). Everyone will swear by the gua bao ("steam bun with special pork"), which is indeed yummy. The scallion pancake w/ or without egg is decent, but not nearly as good as mama's (that's usually the standard by which we Asians judge other Asian cooking). Items come in sizable portions (for 1-2 people) and priced at $1-3 each, which means you can get full off just a few well-spent bucks. I say great Taiwanese breakfast, but a little known secret is their regular Chinese menu. Grab a Chinese/Taiwanese buddy and come for dinner. You'll be amazed at the wonders this little kitchen can churn out. In my opinion, truly authentic Taiwanese food aside from their popular breakfast. Tip: Around 3pm on weekends when the breakfast closes, you'll see the waiters sit down at a table and dig into some fancy fare... i.e. steamed fish, veggies, eggplant, etc. Don't be afraid to crane your neck a little and take note of what they're eating. House of Sun is the kind of strip mall Chinese restaurant tucked away in some suburb that I've been looking for in the Cincinnati area. There are a lot of authentic dishes (and you know it's a good sign when they have fish tanks with some of the seafood they serve), and Taiwanese breakfast! Thank you Caroline C. for alerting me to this. The service and restaurant itself is pretty standard for a Chinese restaurant- okay, and slightly dated. Of course, you come here for the food (and so do lots of Asian folks, from my two observations!). Everything I've tried has been good, though I did think some the portions didn't seem quite family style size. The beef noodle soup is great (and huge, so very shareable). I love that you can order hot soy milk (sweet or salty) that tastes homemade. And of course, the Taiwanese breakfast on the weekends! For you non-Taiwanese eaters, you should try a sesame shaobing, which is a flaky flat bread, and the fried bread stick. Growing up, we usually split the shaobing apart and put a piece of the bread stick inside. Some folks like to dip it in hot soy milk. The scallion pancakes are tasty, and the scallion pancake with beef (basically rolled up beef and onions in a scallion pancake was delicious! Mmm.
