A reservation is strongly recommended - we heard some people get turned away at the door. They start you off with some warmed bread and butter. I tried a small piece of each - pumpernickel and sourdough. The bread was good but I didn't want to fill up on just bread. We tried the baked Brie which was very rich. The Brie was liquified after baking and had garlic flavor with some tomatoes. The tomatoes were definitely needed as the acidity gave a brightness to break up the rich cheese. It was served with 3 pieces of toasted bread (probably needed more for the cheese) but you could also use the bread basket for the rest. We all ordered steaks. My filet mignon was perfectly cooked to medium, seasoned well, and had a delicious crust (Maillard reaction). Each steak is served with a Cabernet Demi glacé, which I tried but I enjoyed the steak without it. For sides (which are served family style), we ordered the grilled asparagus, garlic mashed potatoes, and the lobster cavatappi and cheese. The grilled asparagus has a balsamic syrup drizzled on top - delicious. The garlic mashed potatoes were also good - but typical. My favorite was the lobster cavatappi with cheese. It was incredibly rich as the pasta was bathed in a lobster béchamel sauce and mixed with mushrooms and bacon. For dessert, we shared a strawberry mango mousse and a pinyon (pine nut) pie with ice cream. Honestly, it was interesting to try the pie, but next time I would skip dessert. Overall, the service was amazing. We definitely enjoyed our dinner.

Hotel is located in pine tree forest, which is amazing with a lot of hiking trails through the woods, even the playground is in the the woods which is amazing. They also have outside pools which is facing the wood. There is pathway to the hotel, everything is super organized and nice. On the front entrance there are people who are very helpful. Hotel lobby is also magical with fire place and nice sofa and beautiful decorations. On the right side there is a check in point for North Pole experience which is also super organized with no confusion. Definitely will stay here next time. We had a standard queen room both times and it's spacious, bathroom has two sinks one in and one out so yconvenient for two people sharing. The pool is a roundish shape but large enough to swim some laps when there aren't a lot of children there. There are four 2 level inter connected buildings and #4 being the furthest away from the lobby - you can park your car (parking is free) close to any building but it's a bit of a walk on foot. Location is a bit out of town not walking distance to downtown Flagstaff. Rating it a 3 star due to service. On a day when they don't seem to be full they still wouldn't accommodate a late check out by just an hour (at noon instead of 11 am) which I didn't think would have made any difference to them but would have made a huge one for us. Then there is the breakfast. Nice dining room and all, but service was slow and the food came lukewarm, this at a time when it was early and hardly anyone in the dining room. And in addition to that, I had tea and it came in a tea pot with one weak tea bag, and as I like my tea strong I asked for another tea bag in the same pot and was told I'd be charged a second pot of tea ($5). This kind of stinginess just doesn't befit the seeming stature of such a hotel. And finally, the teacup they gave me had a long crack in it - I discovered it when i saw the saucer filing up with tea and didn't think I spilled any in it. The crack was old and stained, not a new one, so it was shocking that no staff had noticed it for this long and cared enough to not continue using it. Let's just say I'd never encountered broken cups like this in lesser priced motels. For this trip to Flagstaff I also had a two-night stay in another hotel downtown and other than the swimming pool, it was much better value and more comfortable with more helpful staff - and no broken tea cups!

This place has been around since 1985, at a couple locations, but currently they sit on a corner in the Restore shopping center. The first time was a few months ago and we missed the lunch specials because of time, so we ordered off the regular menu. I had a huge bowl of war wonton soup filled with fresh chicken and shrimp and veg. These bowls are meant for sharing so I had two more meals from it. I'm also pretty sure I had the gyoza, all of which is made in house. My second visit was yesterday, a Wednesday at lunchtime. The restaurant itself is not huge, approximately 10-ish tables, but most were full. We were greeted promptly with jasmine tea - it was about 85 and humid that day, but I asked for a cup of ice and made some fabulously refreshing jasmine iced tea! Hit the spot! This time I ordered the mu-shu chicken lunch special. There are so many standard hunan options available like Kung Pao, sweet and sour, etc. each lunch comes with your choice of egg drop or hot and sour soup, served with a bowl of crispy wontons, white or fried rice and a mini egg roll. These portions are huge! For anywhere between $14.25-$14.55!!!! The mu-shu comes with a tangy plum sauce and two pancakes, tons of white meat chicken, bok choy, green onions...just so tasty. The chicken fried rice was a massive portion also, served on the same plate, so it all became one eventually. The soup was delicious, light and great amount of egg...the eggroll was typical and I'm not a huge fan, but it worked. But the mains are really just good down home eats. I literally had enough leftovers for another two meals. Hunan is family owned and ran...our server is the son and he is delightful and fun and engaging and thoughtful and just so lovely. Service is unpretentious and welcoming. It's an older building and the interior is what people would say is dated, but you aren't eating here for asthetics! It's off the beaten path off Route 66, but definitely worth going out of the way a bit. Flag has changed a lot in the five years I've been in AZ, and there is basically most fast food chains and other garbage, which is why I tend to love the little mom and pops that have history and longevity. And because it's located in Old Flagstaff you get more authenticity and less crowds and superficial, "trendy" restaurants. I'm old school, I like personable hospitality and good, quality, inexpensive eats. Definitely worth a visit!
