Aloha Hawaiian BBQ in Flagstaff is a no-frills spot that approaches what can be found in Hawaii. Let's be honest though, we're in a landlocked state. This is the only Hawaiian joint in Flagstaff, so whenever I have a craving, I go! It's also not a chain, so I love supporting a local spot! I feel like the prices are reasonable, and the portions are generous, giving you plenty of bang for your buck. Their menu is filled with a lot of options. I really like the 1/2 and 1/2 plate to try a few things. You pick the meats and then it comes with mac salad, rice, and cabbage. The fried items can sometimes be a little overcooked depending on the day, but it's nothing that'll keep me away. The BBQ beef, fish, and chicken katsu are some of my favs. Note that this place can get busy, especially at night. They have seating inside, but it can quickly fill up. read more

This is always a must go to destination when I am Flagstaff, Arizona. Although this time I wasn't quite as happy with what I ordered. I typically get a BBQ chicken plate, but this time decided to try the fried rice. For me it wasn't great, but it was a hearty, large serving of food, prepared and served fast and fresh. I just didn't love the taste, but my daughter did. She had a small chicken Katsu plate and we both really enjoyed that one. My son and I were visiting from Prescott, we have a Hawaiian BBQ place near the courthouse, when you compare it to that place to this place, omg! Makes me relived that we have the better tasting Hawaiian BBQ place in Prescott. The portions at this Flagstaff location were smaller, the soy sauce they use in the packets... idk what those were but watered down soy sauce, I didn't taste a thing over my rice, it made it taste even more bland, the chicken katsu was OK, kind of hard around the edges and the macaroni salad, again.. BLAND. My son got an order of the pork buns, the buns were very bland, tasted like flavorless bread, and the pork stuffing tasted on the dryer side. Service was fine, nothing special. This place is very lowkey with cafeteria style seating. You can either dine in or do takeout, but you pay for your meal in advance. Asked the locals, and they all suggested this place to visit. It's a busy spot when we went around dinner time on a Tuesday night. We ordered the grilled island fish (the healthier meal section), which comes with a side of salad and brown rice. Also, got the BBQ chicken that tasted like something you would get at Panda Express. It was really sweet, it comes with rice and macaroni salad (this was really good). I don't have a personal fondness for Hawaiian bbq, so maybe I'm just uncultured, but I wasn't very impressed. First I should say the staff was very friendly and helpful, the place was clean, and as a business it's a good place. But for me the price to taste ratio just wasn't it. The portions were a good amount to where I left full and with leftovers. The food itself wasn't bad by any means, it just wasn't anything special or memorable to where I'm looking forward to going back again anytime soon. A college town favorite. Aloha Hawaiian BBQ is crafting up island eats in the middle of downtown Flagstaff. This spot is well known for having the best Hawaiian food in town.. which you could easily tell from the 20+ college students waiting in line for takeout on a Saturday night. I ordered a number of dishes to go, including their katsu, spam masubi, and dumplings. The wait was 40+ minutes, but I had zero regrets. My first bite was literal perfection. Their katsu was lightly breaded with just the right amount of crisp. This plate was also served with a scoop of rice and mac salad. Unlike other Hawaiian concepts, their menu is pretty diverse with options like boba, steamed dumplings, and burgers. I'll no doubt be returning for future meals and can't wait to explore their boba menu. read more

We did 2 orders of the 1/2 & 1/2 of chicken katsu and short ribs. The chicken was excellent as usual, but the ribs were so tough we couldn't eat them. We will stick with the beef next time, it's always tender and eatable. The short ribs definitely were not worth the $3.50 extra. When strolling through Downtown Flagstaff on a weeknight around dinner time, I popped into Aloha for a BBQ chicken plate. Ordering was quick and easy with few pleasantries exchanged. The chicken was surprisingly lean as lots of Hawaiian places have fatty meat, but it lacked the flavor you might expect from barbecued chicken, and didn't come with any marinade or sauce unless you ask for some on the side. The white rice was also a bit on the stale side. The macaroni salad was tasty and fresh, though it had lots of lettuce pieces in it which was not ideal. If you've ever been to Ono in the Phoenix area, it seems that they are kind of styled after them. Their bbq chicken was decent, mac salad was good. Everything needed some sauce for dipping, but there was none to be found. Quaint little plate lunch/Hawaiian place. Were were looking for something quick and tasty. It had all of the standards. We got some spam musubi which was as it should be. The teriyaki chicken combo was good. Prices weren't outrageous. Service was fine - you order at the counter and they call your number so really nothing you could do wrong or right. Ate the chicken chow mien and I knew something was off when it tasted bland and old and I'm paying the price for it I had to end my night 2 hours after eating the food from this place because I was sick and throwing up I'm a 6 ft 200 lbs man and I'm known by my family for having an iron stomach so something must've been severely wrong with the food. It's a cool spot, although I can't get past the part that the employees don't actually keep their tips. This is confirmed, I've tried to sneak in a little cash to them but they had to say no because of the camera. It's not like the employees can say anything about it either which is messed up. Tucked away in a shopping center down a side street between the start of Downtown and Heritage Square you can find Aloha among a small strip of restaurants. We tried to ask some questions around the menu since it was our first time but the staff wasn't particularly inclined to take the time to share their favorites and just directed us to a combo plate which was a bit of a bummer. We just chalked it up to them being busy. The quality of food was great and made up for it. I decided to try the BBQ chicken. It was tender, flavorful, and ready quick! They cook right behind the ordering counter so it can get a bit warm during the summer, I think I'd prefer takeout next time since they only have one patio table but overall a great choice for Hawaiian BBQ. read more

We got a take out order from here during COVID times (May 2020). Wow, it was AMAZING! It was so good I had to go back in after we ate and thank them for their amazing and delicious food. We got the spare ribs, beef bowl, and bbq chicken. The bbq chicken was mine and was the star! I want the recipe. It was simple yet so flavorful! Also, we got some musubi which my dad absolutely loves. The portion sizes on everything were large and filling! The calories are listed on the menu which I really appreciated and they let me substitute out some of the carb heavy rice for other items. This is a place that I really wanted to like ... love, even, but I went away so disappointed with my meal. We came here at about 8:30 pm about 6 weeks ago during our road trip from ATL to Los Angeles. After checking into a local motel, I wanted to eat in Downtown Flagstaff. My parents were both born in Hawaii, and I really love good Hawaiian food (and I KNOW what is good Hawaiian food), so I dragged R here expecting to get great food. Aloha Hawaiian BBQ is way in the back of Gateway Plaza, a pedestrian plaza (you can't drive through) in Downtown Flagstaff. I found free street parking (because it was late) one street over from the restaurant. Aloha Hawaiian BBQ has a small outside patio, but it was still hot outside, so we were going to sit inside. There were people seated at tables inside, waiting for their food, and there wasn't a line of people at the counter. Because of this, we were able to take our time reviewing the menu, which had a lot of items on it. Customer service was lacking; the woman behind the counter wasn't very helpful whenever we asked her questions about the food. It seemed like she just wanted to just take the orders and ring people up, and didn't have time to answer questions or provide helpful suggestions. I ordered the BBQ short ribs and R ordered the Kalua Pork with Cabbage. I also ordered the Spam Musubi appetizer. We waited for about 20 minutes, taking pics inside the restaurant and planning for the next day's travels, before our food was ready. The food actually looked delicious, but, in this case, looks were very deceiving. Two good scoops of white steamed rice, a scoop of macaroni salad, and three strips (6 bones) of short ribs. The short ribs were cooked perfectly, lacked the marinated flavor (like teriyaki), and, the more I ate, the more I realized that the meat had an awful "old" flavor, like this meat had been in the freezer too long before it was cooked. I stopped eating the short ribs and threw them away. The rice and the macaroni salad were good. I tried R's Kalua Pork with cabbage, and the pork was pretty dry and didn't have much flavor. The Spam Musubi was quite tasty, though, and it was a good portion, with two rolls provided in one order. It was easy for us to split. I definitely suggest getting the spam musubi, and trying anything else on the menu, but stay away from the BBQ short ribs and the Kalua Pork with cabbage. read more

I ordered the BBQ Short Ribs (regular size) to go. Worst i've ever had in my entire life. The beef was so tough and chewy that I felt like I was gnawing at a dog's treat. It was so hard to tear the meat from the fat (so much fat) and bone. Absolutely no flavor which was so surprising. Not sure how it's BBQ Shirt Ribs without the seasoning. It was almost like the it had bbq sauce at one point, but washed away. Either meat was not good quality or it's bland and overcooked. Maybe both. Mac salad was mediocre. Not good or bad. Meal also came with 2 small scoops of rice. I was worried there wasn't, but there was so little edible short rib that I had a full scoop left. The rice was so clumpy at some points and crumbly at others. I ordered musubis as well so you can imagine how that tasted with the bad quality of rice. read more
