My girlfriend had the pumpkin pancake which was very dense and seemed raw which it wasn't. They took off bill. It was tasty but texture was off. If waitstaff would mention these differences when ordering, we would had ordered something else. Pie was great and sure most food is there. Located on the corner of Route 66 or what remains of Route 66, the restaurant provides an excellent overview of the route's history. This is a definite must-try just for the historical essence of the Mother Road trip. The service was excellent. We were offered refills multiple times, and the waitress came back to check on us and see if anything else was needed. I have been on the hunt for a house made chicken fried steak for breakfast. This was IT! Perfect breading, tender and flavorful meat, super tender! The coffee was good, hit the spot! The water was even ice cold and quickly filled. The only bummer was the lack of brown on the hash browns. I forgot to request extra crispy. Hash browns. My eggs were exactly as i ordered. The wait staff was attentive and eager to accommodate. I requested a pancake instead of toast or biscuit. It was a little chilly by the rime i got to it, but that was my fault for savoring every bite of the chicken fried. I really enjoyed the meal and look forward to getting back. I rarely write bad reviews but someone needs to be honest about this place. I chose it mostly from its Route 66 roots and the 5 star recommendations on this page. I fail to see how anyone in that restaurant had that experience today. Service was slow and inefficient. We were there almost an hour and that is leaving most our food without eating. The food was not just bad, it was almost inedible. We ordered a roast beef dinner and simple burger and fries. The fries were cold and limp. All the food tasted off, like it would sicken you to eat it. When we asked for the check and declined a box, the server did not even question why we were leaving a $30.00 ticket of food behind. We paid for the food and left a tip....expensive waste of money. We headed to Mary's Cafe instead where we had excellent service and food. Came in and half the restaurant (upper half) was closed so we were told to take a booth right inside the door or go downstairs. Downstairs was packed so we chose the booth by the door. This is a local restaurant in Flagstaff, AZ. It's one of my son's favorites. Today's experience, according to my son, was sub par because of the service. Miz Zip's is primarily a breakfast place. It's on Route 66 and occupies a pretty nondescript building both inside and outside. It was open seating when we arrived so we took a booth. We received our menus and ordered drinks. I asked if they had Splenda and our server didn't know so I didn't order coffee right away. I took our coats to the car and we had some there, so I did order coffee. Our drinks and coffee came but there was no creamer (I wasn't asked if I wanted some so I assumed our server would bring it). She didn't. I asked for creamer. The donut holes came and the creamer. The donut holes were fantastic!! Our food came. We were asked if we wanted anything. Our daughter-in-law asked for chalula. Our server brought more coffee and the chalula. The food was very good. I had the huevos rancheros. My son had the chicken and waffles, which he enjoyed. Our daughter-in-law had the Gringo French toast. She loved it. Great food! This is the East Side Rt 66 diner, the inverse of Galaxy on the West Side in a sense. It's standard but good diner food with some Southwestern options. We were waiting for my mom's prescription, so we drove down HWY 66 and found this diner. Quaint decorations. Lots of tables. Clean. I ordered the Hatch burger (Green chile with tomatoes, cheese, lettuce, and pickles). I ordered a side salad rather than fries. Burger was delicious. Side Salad was very plain. a couple of cherry tomatoes and cabbage. But I didn't expect anything more from a diner. Just glad I could have the option. My mom ordered the Zipburger with fries. she enjoyed her meal. For drinks, we ordered a coffee and an iced tea. Miz Zip's had gone downhill in the last couple of years. I had their Philly Cheese Special on Oct 4. It tasted like it was microwaved. Especially the bread roll that was spongy and wet. The worst part were the fries. They were gray in color. Somehow some were limp and oily and others were dry and crispy. They definitely were reheated. It's a shame that they have gone downhill fast. My meal before this was a BLT that had no full pieces of bacon and seemed to be bits that were scraped from left over pieces, wilted lettuce and over ripe and soggy tomatoes. Had had a full day of errands all over Flagstaff and by 6 PM was craving a big, juicy burger that was NOT fast food. I recalled a place on the west side on Highway 66 called MIZ ZIP'S. The signage outside was a little worn, but it didn't mean the food wouldn't be as good as I remembered. Don't be put off by the worn-out look as you enter. I was directed to the lower dining room. This restaurant has continuously been in business for 72 YEARS, having first opened in 1952. Upon speaking to the waitress, Celeste, she said that when original owners retired, their daughter took it over, continuing the very successful, eating establishment. Then, 4 years ago the daughter retired , and it is under new ownership. You'll be given 2 menus: Breakfast or Lunch! I ordered a Brioche Burger. They only serve Angus beef and fresh food. The burger would come with cheese, avocado, red onion, tomato and lettuce on a brioche bun w fresh, home cooked potatoes w a tangy, side sauce. A short wait later came the most delicious looking meal! It's the tastiest burger I've eaten in ages. Was cooked medium well and the flavor was heavenly. You'd never capture this in fast food! In fact, was far better than burgers I've had in the upscale restaurants in downtown Flag. I guess I'd forgotten what fresh, fried potatoes tasted like. The potato flavor was so good. Was so plentiful a portion, I brought half of potatoes home and will cook with scrambled eggs this morning! Celeste was perfectly attentive but not intrusive. I always had everything I needed w a smile. The bathroom was clean and well stocked. I didn't hate it - didn't love it. It's an old mom and pop shop. Cool old antique coke decor and more. the place could use a little love. The booth seating is very run down. I don't always let the rooms looks determine if I will like the place or not. So I walk in I'm standing there at the host stand, 2 associates are talking. Not work related just about their friend so and so who didn't get home until 2 in the morning. Blah blah blah.. as I still stand there waiting for them to even say hello for id say 4 mins maybe. They saw me even made eye contact but didn't say a word til they finished their story.. CRAZY!!!! awful service and I'm sure the owner wasn't wanting that to be the vibe right when you walk in. after they finished talking they yelled to me "how many" still no hello or welcome in.. nothing. so I said "1" - she yells again "sit wherever". well shit if that was the case I would have just sat down already. Well then a new story starts - so I still have no menu and no drink.. finally 6 mins after I sat down *yes I timed it. My server comes over and brings a menu and gets my drink order. She was not as friendly to me as she was her little friend she was chatting and giggling with.. so at this point I am annoyed to say the least. I ordered pancakes 2 and an order of hashbrowns. I asked that the hashbrowns be extra crispy to which I got "yeah" the pancakes were 10/10 delicious. Slightly undercooked and fluffy at the same time, flavor on point. The hashbrowns is where things went wrong. Eww I'll say. how do you mess up hashbrowns? they ware soggy in the center and the flavor was way off. I don't know if they are cooking on a dirty grill or something but I will never get those again nor would I recommend. Although i loved the pancakes.. you can get those most anywhere. Service was excellent, and the only reason this didn't get a 5 was the fresh cut potato wedges were soft and kinda oily, not crisp. My recommendation is to ask for the "fries" twice cooked. Well, I've been here a few times and it was pretty good. Unfortunately this morning, it sucked! First, the waitress was too busy on her phone to sit us, waited 10 minutes then seated ourselves. Her attitude during our visit was rude and rushed. Guess her phone was too important and the music was so loud. Went here with my boyfriend and his family. At first it was nice, we picked a table and sat down. I get very paranoid in restaurants so I asked for a napkin to re-wipe the table and the lady said it was fine and wiped it for me. The server we got wasn't being directly rude at first, it just seemed like she didn't have good customer service, which as someone who works in customer service, I understand. She was filling up syrups right in my view, and I heard her being rude to customers behind us. She wasn't paying much attention and brought out our food, with two of the initial three plates being cold. I had asked for a breakfast burrito without the cheddar cheese, since I can't eat cheese, and there was cheese very clearly in it that I could see from it being cut in half. My boyfriend's sister just let her know I asked for no cheese and said how her food was cold and the server gave her attitude. She asked her if she wanted her food remade or microwaved and then stormed off before she could answer. I could hear her talking to the cooks and making it seem like I didn't mention not wanting cheese, when it was the very first thing I mentioned. We told her she could just take the two plates off the receipt because at that point we didn't want to eat there and everyone else was done eating. She then said she couldn't, and then said she'd get her manager. After seeing her go into the back on the phone, another lady came and said that the server would cover it and we could just leave. We were still planning on paying for the rest and I had no issue with my food having to be remade because I always say "no cheese", and the server very clearly just shouldn't be working in customer service. I would not recommend going here if you don't want to have to deal with bad customer service. It's very clear when someone just wants to be rude, we were being polite and it was unprompted. At least we didn't have to pay for it, but it was very dramatic and such an extreme. I'm just glad I looked before taking a bite. If you are looking for a classic all-American Route 66 Diner, look no further than Miz Zip's! We actually were going to go to another Diner down the street, but it was closed due to health reasons, so we ended up at Miz Zips instead and I'm so glad it worked out that way. We were seated right away, which I was surprised about since it was a Saturday morning (although we were there in January, so not exactly peak traveling season). The wait staff was efficient, friendly and attentive. They have all classic diner options and I was very excited to get the Gringo Breakfast with Corned Beef Hash. It consisted of Corned Beef Hash, eggs and French Toast. I appreciated getting the savory and sweet all in one dish! I also love that the Heinz ketchup bottles are glass bottles. Nothing says "diner" like a booth and Heinz ketchup! They also have a lot of Route 66 history on the menu. My boyfriend and I enjoyed reading about it and then getting on Google to search some additional history. We were in and out real quick and our bill for two breakfasts was only about $25. Definitely gives you the mom & pop feel with a delicious, hearty (but cheap!) breakfast. If I could go back, I would also try some of the homemade pie that they have. I hope to be back at some point. A true, classic diner experience in Flagstaff. We love to come here for breakfast. The food is delicious, the service is wonderful and our kids (and truthfully, the adults too) love looking at all the nostalgic wall decor. The place, even though they've changed owners, hasn't changed at all! I've eaten here since I was a kid and it's still the same and just as great of an experience.
