Healthy options, great staff! Parking is limited but not hard to find! Street parking is cheap, and there are plenty of spaces around the restaurant. Staff is extremely friendly! I had quick service, found a hair in my food, and the staff apologized sincerely for the occurrence and got me a new plate of food expeditiously. The food was excellent and came in big portions. I had the Owls nest, healthy veggies with a kick to it! I'd highly recommend, and I had a coffee that was average but great! The restaurant is beautiful. We came as a group of four girls on a busy Saturday afternoon and waited a short while before getting seated at their community table inside with a few other folks. We ordered french toast to share for starters and were told that there would be a $3 per plate charge for us to get plates to split it. When we told them we each planned to order our own meals as well, they forwent (that's a fun word I rarely use...) the extra charge which we appreciated. The french toast ended up being our least favorite part of the meal. It was somewhat hard and lacked flavor. I prefer soggy custard-like french toast. The toasted owl is a fun, quirky restaurant that should definitely be checked out! The restaurant has a lively atmosphere and attentive servers. If you do get a little claustrophobic or overwhelmed with noise, I would recommend coming a little later (it slowed down around 1:30pm on a sunday). The theme for the restaurant is owls, and they do not let you forget! Everything in the café is for sale, so if you fall in love with something on the wall just let your server know! My party of 3 sat at the bar due to how busy it was, and we didn't feel forgotten by our server... which tends to happen when you sit at the bar at other places. She was extremely nice and our drinks and food were brought out promptly. I ordered a ruben with pastrami. The pastrami was delicious, it wasn't too salty or greasy. The ratio of saurkraut, dressing, cheese, pastrami, and bread was perfect and the sandwhich didn't feel heavy. The other people in my party ordered a BLAT and a BBQ Western Burger. They both loved their food as well and had absoloutly no complaints. The lunch entrees come with a side of fries and they were fantastic, I would come back just for their fries. I would definitely check out this restaurant next time you are in flagstaff so that you can enjoy their unique vibe and great food! Although we ended up having a great experience, I wanted to mention the horrible experience we had with the hostess. My party of 3 (women) walked in and were followed by a party of 5. The hostess made eye contact with us and then promptly ignored us 3 and turned automatically to the man in the party of 5 behind us and asked how many he had in his party in order to put them on the waitlist. He said 5 and even signaled who was in his party (not us). Even though it was a little rude of the hostess and a bit frustrating for her to just skip over us, we would have just ignored it and gotten over it.... except, the other woman at the desk realized what happened and in order to "make things right" she tried to put us on the waitlist. The hostess overheard her and rudely snapped at her, the poor woman then just apologized to us and said that the other girl was the hostess and could help us in a minute. The other woman reacted as if this was something that is a common occurance with this hostess. As soon as the hostess was done with putting the party of 5 on the list, she turned to us. I was the one who spoke with her and had her add us to the waitlist. She was still beyond rude, she was rolling her eyes persistently at me and had a not so friendly tone...it almost was like she had an extremely personal issue with my party? When I was giving her my phone number for the waitlist she had me repeat it about 10 times, I had pronounced the numbers extremely clearly, slowly, and loud enough to be heard each time. She added us to the waitlist and told us how long the wait was and then physically gave the hand signal to shoo us off. We stepped outside to wait for our table and were about to have the "what the heck just happened conversation" when in less than minute, a different staff member who was around the hostess desk when we checked in came out and asked if we would be okay with sitting at the bar. She was extremely nice and our experience went up from there. I wanted to mention this because the hostess is the face of the restaurant, she is the first person that anyone interacts with when they walk in those doors and she sets the tone for their experience. If this is how she normally acts, which given the reaction of her coworker seems likely, then she shouldn't be a hostess at all. The only reason why we didn't leave was because one of our party members use to live in Flagstaff and had been here multiple times. Anyone who has never been to the Toasted Owl, probably would have left and missed this experience. I had an extremely hard time deciding on how many stars to give this review, I am still giving The Toasted Owl Cafe a 5 star review because I don't think that the other staff members or any other part of my experience deserves any less... but if I were to rate only off of the first impression we got, which was the hostess. Fun, kitschy decor - it's like you found all sorts of antique store and garage sale finds and put them together in a way to works. Art everywhere. Paintings. The patio is divine. We came here for brunch for a friend's birthday celebration and it was a great start to the day. The outside waiting area was open and refreshing. We were seated within about 20 minutes of arriving and our waiter was with us quickly. We liked the expansive menu with several drink options that were perfect for brunch. We enjoyed our breakfast. We got seated indoors right away (12:30 on a Friday). Turns out though that a group of six young women were seated behind us and their conversation was lively. We asked to move closer to the front door area. It was much better. And no shade to the young women, they were just catching up and having fun. Plus, the acoustics indoors is quite live. Our server Kayce B was super nice. She brought us waters and coffees right away. We'd already looked at reviews and knew we were splitting a Giant Cinnamon Roll and Breakfast Tacos with Roasted Potatoes. We placed our order and the Giant Cinnamon Roll came out right away. It was sweet and tasty but it was not giant (see pic). Eat the cinnamon roll as soon as it's placed as it turns hard after about 10 minutes. The meal came soon after. It was a lot of food and we're happy we split it. We had scrambled eggs, cheddar cheese, ham and ham in our taco. They were served hot and with a cup of salsa on the side. The tacos were real tasty. The roasted potatoes were amazing. So happy they were oven roasted and not deep fried. They were perfectly cooked. Nice and creamy inside and seasoned well too. We have no plans to return to Flagstaff (been here a few times) but we recommend you give The Toasted Owl a try. read more

Food was not worth $28. My Destri and I split a Ruben sandwich. Mind you this is not a fancy restaurant. We were charged for a split meal or the extra plate. They just brought us a plate we had to split our own meal. The meat was deli meat pretty much sliced deli meat. It was so, so the fries were amazing. Service was great! Before you entered the building, they had a long list of things they wanted you to read on a huge billboard of rules and then you got inside and there were more rules. We should've walked out then. Went here this morning and ordered a side of 'over-medium' eggs with our breakfast. Eggs came out with runny egg whites (which is not 'over-medium' and which I also personally find disgusting). I asked the waitress if we can get another order where the whites weren't runny. She came back with our bill and notified me that the manager had refused to change our order or take it off our bill because 'over-medium' eggs were supposed to have runny whites and she wasn't going to do anything about it. I found that very rude especially because she is objectively wrong. 'Over medium eggs are fried eggs with fully set whites and a warm, jammy, slightly runny yolk, achieved by cooking on medium-low heat and flipping for 1-2 minutes. Signs of Doneness: The white should be completely opaque, and the yolk should not jiggle excessively when the pan is shaken.' read more

A server came over and apologized, saying no one told her that we'd been seated and we were out of sight. They weren't even busy yet, maybe two or three tables seated total. We ordered a hot coffee and mimosa (iced coffee is with vanilla creamer pods), and two plates of the Two Egg Breakfast. Drinks arrived first of course, then food followed about 15 minutes later. My wife and I ate here for the first time on Sunday, October 26th. Long lines to get in, long lines to use the one operable restroom. But the waits were worth it. What a kick (or should that be a "hoot"?). Friendly staff, excellent service by Leilani, superb food, and the tchotchke (ambiance) is out of this world. What a delightful place to go for breakfast! We arrived right when they opened, and were so pleased to be escorted in and seated with such welcome. They were clearly glad that we were visiting and did their very best to make us feel welcome. The room is beautifully appointed with multiple chandeliers, and all kinds of adorable artwork. They make good use of the owl theme and have owls everywhere for you to look at. I went with the breakfast tacos and found them to be absolutely wonderful. Turkey bacon and ham made for a delicious breakfast the breakfast potatoes were well seasoned and tasted perfect. The coffee was a very high-quality as well. My boyfriend and I came here, stood outside their patio reading their Dog Rules while holding our dog, everything looked good so my boyfriend went to pay the meter. My daughter and her family had been here before and recommended this place. It is charming and full of owl decorations. You can buy anything inside the restaurant, except the staff? One child had a taco salad and throughly enjoyed it, and finished it later. The other had the kids blueberry pancake with whipped cream. It was throughly enjoyed. I would say that the kitchen staff was negligent in preparing the orders, with substituting jalapeños for green peppers, and forgetting the beets, and providing a skimpy amount of canned beets, not living up to the menu description.
