We live about an hour away past Sedona and will happily drive in to get a delicious sushi meal. The nigiri is fresh and so tasty. One roll we had we disliked because it was topped with pesto, but I'm sure others may like it. I'm more into traditional Japanese flavors. Chicken Kara age appetizer was yummy too! Cool environment. It's not too loud and plenty of elbow space. Cool looking full service bar with bar seats. Service was okay. She was friendly and fast but I disliked how we didn't receive a printed receipt before paying. I should've spoken up but now I know to ask since it's not just provided, then pay with my card. We visited later in the evening and were able to get a table without difficulty, but it was easy to see how lively the place can be. The ingredients tasted fresh overall. I ordered the jalapeño ramen; the jalapeños themselves were over-charred, but otherwise the dish was well prepared. My favorite was the Santa Fe roll. They removed my favorite drink from the menu, Life on Mars. The drink my friend ordered was still delicious, but it was disappointing to see mine gone. The octopus dumpling appetizer was not good at all. It was a ball of random textures, and it was hard to tell whether it was undercooked or intentionally that mushy. The sauce also smelled odd, so I didn't enjoy it. They used to have shrimp wrapped in potatoes, which was fantastic, and I really miss that dish. Finally, there was a birthday party with a lot of new born kids screaming, and the noise level made it difficult to talk. We had to yell across the table just to have a conversation. Came to an event with friends in Flagstaff and the group was hungry after. Wife had been having some allergy issues so trying to avoid gluten we landed here and that was a solid choice. They were able to cater to this need well asking many questions even the salad dressing if we chose a certain kind would have had gluten. Upon entering you'll notice it usually stays pretty busy. There are a handful of tables and bar seating. We got a seat quickly though, and the staff were very nice. Our waitress was Adel, sweet girl that made sure we were taken care of. We ordered the miso soup, fried rice, rainbow roll and the Brooklyn. All of which tasted fresh and especially the flavoring on the Brooklyn, delicious. I gave this 4 stars, only because there were items not on the menu that I would have liked to enjoy. If you like garlic like we do, and rice, this is for you. Had the Firecracker and Spyder Rolls, both were fresh and prepared to perfection. I frequently visit here to just grab a couple snacks here and there, and every time everything comes out amazing. The food is always top quality with a modern kick. The inside gives a feeling of a cool new hippy bar. Ehh not the best ramen I've had, the broth was flavorful and spicy but that's about all it had going for it. The pork belly in my ramen didn't seem fresh or like it was prepared properly, the noodles didn't seem like they were cooked at all the texture was still hard not al dente as they should be. The servers and host were pleasant and the restaurant had a up beat vibe like a club almost. I don't think the quality of the food reflected the price it's definitely not worth being $10 more than other ramens in town. The restaurant itself is quite large, and while the atmosphere is nice, the lighting can be a bit odd--it's super bright outside during the day, yet somehow still pretty dark inside. Service was great--friendly and attentive without being overbearing. The restaurant was about half full when we arrived, and our food came out relatively quickly. We both agreed the bento boxes are the way to go here. They're a solid deal with a nice variety and good portions. Everything else on the menu seemed pretty overpriced for what you get. Popular Asian spot right off Route 66! Right on the edge of downtown, this restaurant offers casual vibes and good service. The food was decent, but does not justify the price. Some friends and I split a few sushi rolls and each got our own Ramen. There is a huge selection of creative roles, we ordered the mermaid, the rainbow, and Alaskan rolls. All had good flavor and fresh fish, but the rice was very dry. My ramen was well balanced and was great for a chiller day, but was missing some flare. It's sushi in the mountains. If you're thinking quality and taste, save your money. All the rolls tasted the same and were flavorless. That includes the fish. Yakisoba was greasy and no one at the table wanted it. Service is terrible as they are understaffed, our server didn't bother to refill waters and messed up the dinner order. I hate to give any business 1 star but the truth must be told. First mistake I made was going to this place hungry after an hour drive from Sedona. I will admit the vibe inside and bar was cool but as far as service goes we were not happy at all. I felt bad for the waitress cause she seemed like she was doing 20 things at once. I don't understand how so many businesses are understaffed on a busy night. We ordered a total of 4 rolls for me and my wife and had to wait an hour and 15 mins for the first roll to come out. I am in town visiting and was recommended to come here by the front desk staff of my hotel. I decided to do a take out order. Take Out Experience: I was called about 15 minutes early from my requested pick up time, which sort of stressed me out. And I tried to find a place to park and found something about a block or so away. I had to tried to park out back for them to bring it out as they offered but a passerby told me I couldn't stop there and I felt like I'd get a ticket so that's why I had to park and walk over. Service: That being said, service was incredible. The hostess was welcoming and kind. When she went back to get my food, another server passed by and made sure I was being helped, which was very thoughtful. The kitchen staff brought out my food and made sure everything I ordered was in the bag and that I had the utensils/sauces I needed. Food: One word, incredible. I inhaled my food in my hotel room and forgot to take pictures. Their spicy tuna on crispy rice (I cannot recall their name for it) was a generous portion and well seasoned. There was a perfect amount of tuna to rice (which isn't common). I got two maki's (tuna and yellowtail). It was some of the freshest and tastiest fish I've had in Arizona. I also got a Volcano Roll. It is topped and chock full of scallops and crabs with masago and sauces. One of the best baked rolls I have ever had. I have a full belly and a happy heart. Four pieces each of 5 types of fresh sashimi for $34! We added their home made wasabi ($4) and washed everything down with a Sapporo draft - me ($9) and the house sake - her ($8). - Service: I didn't get our server's name, but he was young, friendly and helpful. - Price and Value: Tough to beat. All that food only ran us $61 before tax and tip. Con: - Parking: Tough. On a Tuesday evening, spaces on the streets were taken for blocks around Karma. The miso soup, California rolls, and tempura vegetables were standard. The salad was good, the dressing had a nice bite to it that balanced the rest of the bento box. Karma has deteriorated dramatically. I've been coming to Karma for over 12 years. To me the boils down to ownership and management. Here's the nutshell, Drinks from the bar took 15 minutes to get to the table (I almost went to the bar myself to grab the drink). Our server took our order in segments, he would leave after we ordered a couple things. He's either new, or management needs to hire attentive people. I had to ask for wasabi 3 times. The drinks from the bar were gross, we had to ask for basic mixed drinks. The food came out in portions and not all together. Rice came out cold in the chicken teriyaki. I HAD TO BUSS MY OWN DISHES. No server or busser would take out empty plates. I took them to the bar myself (the servers didn't like that. If you didn't like that, you should have done your job). The sushi was good though. That's why I am giving 2 stars, not 1. I like the new side of karma, but it's telling the original side is closed. To top it off, the tables around us were also complaining about how lackluster the service was. Tragic. My friend and I were doing a Route 66 roadtrip and our first night was spent in Flagstaff. We had a late lunch, so by the time it was dinner time, we weren't overly hungry. We walked around the cute little Flagstaff downtown, and couldn't decide on food and finally settled on sushi because it wouldn't be overwhelming. I noticed that there were a couple of happy hour items, and since I love handrolls and tacos, I just couldn't resist the idea! I got: *Spicy scallop and octopus taco handroll *Spicy tuna handroll *Alaska roll I will say that the handrolls were actually pretty substantial, so while I didn't realize it at the time, I definitely over ordered. The handrolls were absolutely delicious! The Alaska roll was good, though it wish it had some sort of something to it - maybe a lemon? The only think I'll say is that we sat at the bar, which tends to have better service in a lot of places, but here, it seemed like the place was understaffed, and it was hard to get her attention. Best sushi place in Arizona I've tried, been going for years. I live 2 hrs away and I will drive the 2 hrs just to eat there and turn right around and leave. Service is always great and now that they have more room it's even easier to get in. Cool place to eat and relax, great feel to the place. If you like wasabi you have to try the fresh wasabi, don't mix it with your soy sauce just put it on the sushi, but be careful, it has a kick! read more
