Pomegranate margarita
Lana S.

Not sure why this place has such bad reviews! I've been to the other Grain location and loved them. This one is okay compared to the others I think. They do have this cool rooftop portion where you can open up and look out at the city. I got crab nachos that mostly had everything else and barely any crab meat. My pomegranate margarita was pretty good! I originally wanted the blueberry honey mojito but they ran out of mint for the mojito :(

Nachos

Paid the extra $4 for the protein(chicken). As you can see that was a waste of money considering the amount that was added to the nachos. The lettuce is cut at 6" pieces and is very frustrating trying to enjoy . The "crema" is okay , not much in the flavor department . Really like this place and hope that this review makes the product match the price! Have a good day!

Made a pit stop in Kennett Square to go visit a good friend of mine from undergrad. I asked her for recommendations to grab a beer in the area before we were supposed to meet up for dinner. I'm glad she recommended this spot! She ended up meeting up with me for a drink and we decided to stay for dinner due to the lovely rooftop space that they have. They had a good local draft selection and the chicken sandwich was satisfying. We had great service too who was very attentive to when we needed drink refills throughout our time there. If I'm ever back in Kennett then I will definitely be back!

Brunch drinks

We went on Saturday for brunch after the kennett run. There wasn't a lot of people and we got seated right away. The food: Personally the only thing I like from their menu is their Salmon BLT. The rest of table thought the food was just okay. The service: I would give this place a 3 stars but we had a great server (forgot his name) that was pretty funny and attentive. Overall a good experience but wouldn't get anything other than The salmon BLT.

Sweet potato fries & Citrus Avocado Salad

I wanted to really like it at Grain, and I'm sure eating in is fun, especially with the rooftop, but I can't get over how I paid $14 for a salad with maybe only a cup (maybe even less) of greens. I did choose to pay an additional $6 for shrimp, and they did give a fair portion of that. It was a good salad, but I think just overpriced. The sweet potato fries were very good, and a good size portion for their price ($4). The staff were nice and friendly. Overall, a place worth trying, but I can't say it was anything special.

We headed here for brunch to meet friends. Place is larger than I thought with a large upstairs which looks as though it will be fun when the weather changes. We started brunch with a pitcher of pomegranate mimosas 28.00 decent price. It was 3/4 filled with ice and the juice appeared to have a funky taste. We mentioned to waitress the taste and she conferred the juice was recently changed and she would let them know. We didn't hear anything beyond that sort of odd. For meals we had the salmon blt, breakfast burrito, the bacon sliders , s'mores French toast and the warm donuts and chicken. So we had a good sampling of the menu. Judging by the table everyone seemed to enjoy the meal but everyone had a comment about their food. "Salmon seemed dry" , burrito was under seasoned and when they tried to cut it it was a mess, the bacon sliders were good but greasy , the s'mores French toast was good but super sweet. I had the donut and waffles . The menu did not specify it was chicken fingers so I had higher hopes, not to mention they tasted like fish probably from shared frying. It came plated very well. The spicy syrup add on was good and flavorful the biggest let down was the stale donuts that were used. You can heat up a stale donut but it's still stale tasting. All in all was a miss. The price point was about 25.00 pp all in with tip. Definitely not rushing back.

Always enjoy the food at Grain. Cute little place in Kennett Square to grab a bite to eat while walking around town. Food is always good and something different.

Grain can be described as "meh" at best. Decent spot for sandwiches and all-American fare, but nothing out of the ordinary if you're looking for a great dining experience. The hummus platter is a decent way to start the meal, or the giant crab and cheese pretzel if you're looking for quantity over everything (seriously, it's huge), but otherwise there's not much noteworthy about this restaurant. Mediocre food, and a higher price point for sandwiches - with so many restaurants popping up all around the Kennett area, I wouldn't recommend choosing this spot over anywhere else for a bite to eat. All in all, 2 1/2 stars.

Went for brunch with my son & I couldn't have picked a better spot to try. Being new to the area I am always excited about trying new restaurants & this was hit it out of the ball park! The food was Instagram worthy but more importantly delicious! I wish I didn't send my son home with all our leftovers!! I can't wait to go back again!

Overall I really enjoy this place, but I ordered an omelette there today that was the most pathetic omelette I've ever seen. And they stood behind it. As in, they told me it wasn't a mistake. They meant to serve an egg with a pinch of crab and onion and a tablespoon of cream cheese. The cream cheese was all I could taste. Two thumbs down.

A++ food and service. Don't know why this place has lower star ratings. Would definitely visit again.

Even as a part of 7, we were seated a lot faster than I expected. Noisy inside with a lot of groups dining, but it was not hard to have a conversation amongst ourselves, even with being seated next to the front door. Seems like most of the comments here are regarding the wait for service. I'd say the only really annoying part here was waiting for our food, which took a lot longer than we expected. A few tables that were seated around the same time as us got served and left before we got our food. Otherwise, the food here was fantastic. I had the mushroom omelet, but also tried the eggs benedict, Greek salad, and mushroom that others at my table ordered. They definitely feed of the mushroom hype in the Kennett Square area, but the mushrooms here are definitely something else, in the good way. I'd recommend the place for anyone in the area visiting Longwood Gardens. Just be prepared for a bit of a wait, especially with a large group around meal times. This place seems popular and packed!

That was an awesome wedding too by the way. Great venue. So we were out at wegmens and that made us hungry. So we put in a reservation while we shopped. I was pretty tired so I got a latte. The proudly serve La Colombe. You can't go wrong there. It's really the best coffee around. We got the hummus platter for a starter. So good. Watermelon radishes, cucumbers, carrots. Mostly veggies and a few chips. I like when it's more veggies. I was for some reason really impressed with the cucumbers. They just tasted so fresh. They make you potted bread with maple salted butter. I didn't have any of the butter. I don't have a death wish. The bread was perfect though. Crispy in the edges fluffy on the midsection. My wife got the rolled lasagna and loved it. I didn't not try it. For my meal I got the lobster roll. Even though I was in New England all week having lobster on this and lobster in that. I'm not sick of it and this did not disappoint. It felt perfect. The sun peering through the skylight. I wore my sunglasses the entire time. It's a good place to take some time, slow down and appreciate your surroundings.

The food gives you that fine dining experience without the pretentiousness. The staff is warm and friendly -- shout out to Chet for his amazing service. They were also very accommodating to our son who was in between napping when we began dining, setting up a high chair for us in a way that would allow him to continue sleeping in his car seat. We started the meal off with some seared scallops that were perfectly arranged. Next, my wife had some seared tuna while I ordered the Colorado bison -- both items off of the special seasonal menu. The dishes were incredibly flavorful and the veggies that surrounded the meat added a nice complement. I also really enjoyed my California cab, as did my wife with her house Manhattan. We will definitely be back next time we are in Delaware, and highly recommend to anyone visiting the Hockessin area!

(Server rectified) The pasta carbonara was prepared using guanciale instead of bacon or pancetta. I found it too rich and almost over cooked. The duck wings appetizer my friend had were excellent. The fresh fish entree was delicious. The cheesecake dessert was a thing of beauty. I would probably try again, but it's a half an hour away. (We passed way too many other restaurants to try)

We were seated at exactly 4:30, and our server was friendly and fast. RJ and I ordered Downeast Peach Mango Cider which was refreshing and delicious. We started with crab and artichoke dip and beef and weck eggrolls, and our table ordered 2 fish and chips, the "Luxury" seafood pie, shepherd's pie, and the beef on weck sandwich. My weck included onions, mushrooms, swiss, and bacon with a side of au jus and horseradish. Yum, what a salty, savory, spicy combo. The roast beef was very tender and juicy. The fish and chips were all enjoyed, as were both pies. We did not make it to dessert but will try that again another time. We were in and out in about 1 hour without being rushed at all. We will definitely return to the Whip!
