The menu selections right now are pretty dull. We wished we had looked them up before coming in. Nothing we couldn't make at home and we could get local 10oz steaks for far less than $50 so didn't feel there was any bang-for-the-buck. The atmosphere is relaxed and romantic, the service is engaged and attentive, and the food is out of this world, with house-made breads, and wonderful amuse-bouches and palate cleansing sorbets. Their wine list is excellent and bartenders super-skilled. Come hungry and be prepared to linger. Dessert should be a serious consideration. Going solo? If I were on death row, Gracie's would be my last meal... specifically, the rigatoni campanaro. Gracie's is THE best restaurant in Providence, hands down. The ingredients are farm-to-table and the service is outstanding. I highly recommend the prix fixe tasting menu to get an incredible sampling of what they have to offer. Of course, the bar program is top-notch, and they are always able to recommend a bottle of wine that knocks my socks off (of course, the ambiance may be a contributing factor, since their space is gorgeous). Gracie's is my go-to spot for a special dinner in the city, and should be yours, too. read more

I had the 7 course chef tasting menu and a their whiskey cocktail. The 7 courses were really filling and mostly good, but I don't think the taste met the price point. The high lights for me were the gnocchi, duck, and semifreddo (desert). I was a bit disappointed by the service also. From the time we arrived for our reservation it took about 10mins to sit down and 20ish mins before getting my ordered drink. Also not all of the courses were explained, which is expected with a chef tasting menu. Overall the experience was enjoyable, but I probably wouldn't come back. read more

I'm unsure where to begin. The food was fantastic as always. However, the disrespectful and unprofessional staff made the dinning experience so uncomfortable that we almost left before even ordering our meal. We have been to Gracie's several times and have had a great experience. Last night, was not one of those experiences. We had decided to select the unknown 5 course dinning experience and with that, we were in need of a suggested bottle of Red that would go well with dinner. I understand that the 5 course chef sampler has a wine paring option, but we opted for a Dry Red that went well with whatever they were going to serve that night. We asked the waitress for a suggestion and she had no clue what to recommend so she called over this Sommelier, John. This guy walked over to our table, openly embarrassed my fiance and I by loudly chastising us for not knowing which Red we liked and started to then slowly read the list of Red options by Country. Not only was this the most disrespectful situation I've ever been in at a "5 Star" restaurant, he was so rude that the couple to the left of us asked to be relocated and the couple to the right asked why he was being so rude. My suggestion is if you go to this restaurant, do not ask for this Sommelier for a wine suggestion as he seems to not know how to do so in a professional manor. The entire point of asking the guy for a recommendation was because we did not know what the chef was preparing in the 5 course section which is why we assumed the wine expert would have at least a couple of immediate suggestions. How this person could not provide us with 2 or 3 suggestions is amazing to me and the fact that he went out of his way to be disrespectful to a high paying customer is just insane. Went there prior to the theater on St. Patrick's day with my wife. It was a very good experience. My wife had the Prix-fixe option and really enjoyed her selections I had the foie gras followed by the rib-eye and cheese board for desert. Everything was perfectly prepared and had excellent flavor and presentation. Thought the rib eye was a little pricey at $48 but as I said, it was prepared blue like i enjoy and had a most excellent flavor. The cheese board had some wonderful choices and variety from New England's best. Cocktails were truly innovative and flavorful. Service was great but not warm nor cordial. This is the second time I have ever been to Gracie's. The first time wowed me, and the second cemented this as one of the best restaurants I have ever eaten at in my life. We went for my birthday, and received complimentary champagne, as well as a birthday card on the table. One thing Gracie's goes really well is the coordination between staff. They bring out all courses together and do not try to remove plates until everyone is finished. They know exactly when to come and when to leave us be. Gracie's has all of its bread baked by its sister, Ellie's Bakery. This results in a variety of bread options that all taste amazing and amp up the wow factor as opposed to regular table bread. My only gripe was that the server kept pouring my husband slightly more which left me thinking am I getting shorted on my two ounces. I mean my glass was a very small pour and for 150.00 p/p I should not have to question anything. The meal was very elegantly served and had such a variety of flavors in each dish. Would I revisit...probably not, only because the prices were a little outrageous for what you are actually getting. If they were Michelin, I would be on board. Since I'm expecting and have too many food restrictions, we ordered a la carte instead of doing the popular tasting menu. I did appreciate that their cocktail list included a few "mocktails," so I could still feel celebratory. For apps we ordered the octopus and the gnocchi. Both good, but nothing mind blowing. For entrees I had the scallops, hubby had the ribeye. The scallops and lentils were tasty, but the portion was so tiny. Thank God we ordered 2 desserts. The crane brûlée and the cake work peanut butter sauce on it (forget the name). The cake was very good, the crepe brûlée was average. My wife and I were given a gift card here as a wedding present, and I think we both agreed it was one of the best meals we've ever had. Second time to this restaurant and I absolutely love the food! It is fresh, authentic and creative! Between your dishes they give you a first bite of the chefs choose and a sorbet to cleanse your palate before the main course. Then finally they send you off with a French macaroon from the bakery a few buildings down the street. Every bite will not disappoint. The service is wonderful and they really make you feel welcomed. They consistently pass your table, making sure glasses are full and tables are clear of any used or empty dinnerware. The atmosphere is super nice and clean. Very classy and could be for a fun friend date or a romantic date. Location is easy to get to and they offer Valet and they leave a fun surprise in your car. The little details mean so much. We were visiting the New England area for a few days for a family event. Whenever I go on a trip I spend days if not months researching what the best restaurants and sites to visit are. I spent most of my time researching Boston I think, and not as much time researching Providence. But we were told that Providence is one of the best foodie towns in the U.S. I went on yelp to find what the best restaurant is, and it said Los Andes. I tried getting a table on opentable and tried calling to book a reservation, but had no luck and was very disappointed. I looked up other restaurants but no other places stood out so I didn't book anything and figured we would just wing it when we got to Providence. We arrived in Providence and spent the day walking around the town. By time dinnertime came I still did not know where to go for dinner. This was our only chance to eat at a restaurant here because we had a Bat Mitz Vah to go to the next night, so I didn't want to make the wrong choice. I ended up booking a reservation at Hemenway's because I liked seafood. It was almost time to leave to go out for dinner but I had a bad feeling about it. Yes it did have a large variety of seafood, but the food looked just average in pictures and seemed very expensive. At the last minute I changed my mind and made a reservation for Gracie's because it had good reviews. As we were getting in the elevator some men asked where we were from and where we were going to dinner. They said hemenway's was a really good restaurant to go to. I looked at my husband and said should I try to change the reservation again? He said no, I wouldn't really trust their opinion cause they look like they're homeless, they probably don't know what good food is. So we went to Gracie's and I didn't regret it. We both ordered the 3 course prix fixe menu. Their menus are seasonally changing and offer only fresh ingredients. I ordered this rabbit gnocchi as my first course. This was my favorite dish that I ordered. The rabbit was so tender and was complemented perfectly by squash and other seasonal vegetables. The gnocchi was cooked to perfection and was so pillowy and light. I think this restaurant started my obsession with getting gnocchi at restaurants now, and I haven't been able to find any other places that cooks them as well. I believe I ordered the Georges Bank Sea scallops, and my husband ordered the Crescent Farms Duck. My scallops were very good. They were seared very nice and were accompanied by seasonal vegetables. However, I liked my husband's duck entree better. The duck tasted so good and paired really well with the parsnip puree, Apple, etc. Now I like to order duck at many restaurants I go to, because it was awesome here. I can't remember what desserts we had but I remember them being very good as well. We were very happy with our meal here and would return if we ever come back to Providence. read more

Came to Gracie's for an anniversary dinner and was not disappointed. Parking was a breeze with valet (and that cookie that was in my cup holder when picking up my car was delicious :P ) and even though we were a bit early we were able to be seated (YMMV). I had told them ahead of time of the occasion and we were treated to a sparkling wine toast and a nice little card with little stars on the table! On to the main event! I don't have enough words to describe delicious. Starting with a pate appetizer and amuse bouche between meals and enjoying 2 fantastic dinners. Ending with a creme brulee. Each looked like it was prepared well, presented elegantly, and tasted great. I would recommend based on my experience and will certainly be back for other occasions. read more

The hubz and I went here for Restaurant Week a couple days ago. We'd never been to Gracie's before, and thought RW was a great reason to give it a try. Things started a bit off. The staff, from the coat check/hostess to our waiter's assistant, seemed shy/timid. Not snobby, not quiet, but... shy. That's the best word I can thing to describe their demeanors. A little mousy; library-esque. As our meal went on, some of the staff seemed to warm up, become friendlier. Another oddity was the complimentary amuse bouche that kicked off our meal. It tasted like mayo. That's all. Just mayo. And... room temperature mayo. My husband thought, "why didn't they toast it, or something?" My thought was "why did they serve it?" It just wasn't good. But then, the meal began. Hit after hit! In course order: Baby Green Salad: Could've done without the potato chip topping (odd), but otherwise delicious. A- The Duck: Every bite was incredible. Every bite. I didn't want the dish to end. (Sorry, ducks!) A+ Creme Brulee: Perfection. A+ Wine Pairings: Each wine was an excellent accompaniment to the dish. Hats off to the sommelier. In particular, the wine that joined the creme brulee... I really should've asked for a bottle while I was there, the more I think/dream of it. It was that good. A+ for all of the wines we enjoyed that night. It really was a beautiful night, with a delicious meal. Well I finally made it to Gracie's and can honestly, happily say that it lived up to the hype. What an incredibly special meal! We started off with cocktails and an amuse of raw scallop which was the perfect intro to our meal. Fresh and bright. Then moved on to an appetizer of charred octopus that was seasoned and cooked to perfection. The roasted cod was exquisite... the leeks and green salsa were a great combo that didn't overpower the fish. We got the cheese plate to cap the meal off and then enjoyed a piece of butter cake. It was indulgent but without a single wasted calorie. Everything was sublime, including the service that couldn't have been more gracious. Thank you, Gracie's. For a special occasion, the surprises started with a sprinkling of stars on the table and continued with the well-coordinated and informed staff, all of which gave congratulations. The perfect service also included all the hallmarks of refinement, like perfectly-timed plate bussing, a delicious amuse-bouche, and a post-dessert treat of pumpkin spice macarons. The meal and wine pairings were excellent, with seasonal and novel dishes presented in every course. One particular highlight was the black tortellini, darkened with cacao to give it a Halloween theme. While a 3-course prix-fixe dinner is offered, the 5-course tasting menu is a minimum requirement in order to let the chefs' creativity shine. Gracie's is one of the restaurants that are all show, and unequal parts substance. I had a party of 6 and we were sat in the wine cellar. It was very nice, very quiet and closed off. When we first entered, we smelled fresh bread being baked. The server came around with different kinds of bread for us to try. As each course was served, the waiters placed the food in front of us in synch. I had mixed emotions about the food. Local Market Crudo B- This was raw fish topped with shaved radish, finger lime, cashew, coriander, and Calabrian chili. Sounds fancy and delicious right? The flavors did not mix. There was not enough acidity to balance out the raw fish, and the radish was bitter and unpleasant (yes radish is bitter, but perhaps a pickled radish would have been better). The cashews were thrown on top as an after thought and seemed quite random. Wood Grilled Spanish Octopus A This was octopus with confit carrot, raw fennel, almond dukkah, romesco, cilantro. This dish was my favorite. It was perfectly cooked. The octopus was soft and not chewy, and had a great smokey flavor. In between appetizers and entres we were given small spoons of lemon sorbet to clean our pallets. It was the perfect amount of sweet. Georges Bank Sea Scallops B+ Scallops with flint corn polenta, maitake mushroom, Brussels sprouts, Autumn squash. The scallops were cooked perfectly. Had the perfect sear on top with the right consistency in the middle. However, the rest of the dish felt redundant and random. The autumn squash was undercooked, and did not have much taste. There were Brussels sprouts that were halved as well as fried Brussels sprout leaves. There were one or two mushrooms, and the dish as a whole did not make much sense. However, the scallops should be the star of the dish, and they were cooked perfectly. At the end of the whole meal, we all got small raspberry macarons. They were delightfully tiny and really tasty. For the price of Gracie's, the dishes should have been more cohesive and most importantly, tasty. Not my first recommendation. There are better places that are much less expensive in Providence. However, the food is not bad. Just depends on what you order. read more

Just had another great meal at Gracie's! This is one of our favorite restaurants anywhere, and if we lived nearby we'd be regulars. The restaurant is lovely and comfortable, and every staff member was friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. Our server Hannah was fabulous in all those descriptions; she was also warm and fun. Five stars for her! Our cocktails were delicious. My pea soup was very tasty and nice in texture; my husband's baby greens, loaded with blue cheese, was excellent. His rigatoni with sausage rivaled some of the great pastas we've eaten in Italy. My duck was spectacular. We loved the accompanying bread and mini corn muffins as well as an amuse bouche of mango sorbet and the mini macarons brought at the end of the meal when we were unfortunately too full to order dessert! . Inside, the high ceilings and abundance of Gracie's signature starry motif blended haute cuisine with camping, y'all. Camping! Bulleit Rye Old Fashioned? Don't mind if I do ('twas so well made, I went back for thirds), and the menu of seasonally driven starters, entrees and desserts read like a list of everything I've ever wanted to eat ever. Facing a culinary Sophie's Choice, I opted for: (Free!) Honey glazed beer bread is not a hoax. You will believe. (Free!) Amuse bouche of squash puree, microgreens and a toasted pecan. - Handmade Russet Potato Gnocchi ($12): braised oxtail gravy, foraged mushrooms, celeriac puree and aged provolone shavings. Tender, savory, legendary. Like pillows off the beds of baby angels. Cribs? Do baby angels sleep in cribs? Is this offshoot venturing in to extremely weird? The answer to all is yes. (Free!) Palate cleanser of grapefruit sorbet. Done, gone. - Crescent Farms Duck ($28): Genius breast seared and roasted to perfection on a bed of equally beautiful carrots and parsnips, with pomegranate arils tossed in for good measure and a single foie gras-confit ravioli. The duck's fat rendered to an airy rind just sealed the deal - it's the best I've ever eaten. - S'Mores Tart ($10): spicy chocolate ganache, candied peanuts, banana ice cream. Not that bananas or peanuts belong anywhere near a s'more, but with that perfectly toasted marshmallow meringue, I wasn't complaining. I wasn't anything other than wolfing that puppy down. Five-star service (synchronized course tabling!) rounded out the experience. Lo, what started a phenomenal $50+ meal well worth the price dropped to $35 thanks to their standing prix fixe. Gracie's is still 5 stars in my book because they're still amazing in every way... and then some. When my husband and I want to linger over a gorgeous meal, celebrating something special or just simply being together, we come to Gracie's because, in my opinion, it just cannot be matched. While the ambience and decor are relaxed and comfortable, this is definitely a special place. You're never rushed through a meal, you're actually encouraged to linger and enjoy every bite. They'll even bring out treats from the kitchen to compliment our experience, and take special precaution at the start of each meal to avoid any food allergies or aversions. So thoughtful. The food is incredible -- as beautiful as it is delicious -- and always changing according to what's fresh, in season and local. Chef Matt Vargas is a singular talent, and one to appreciate as much as possible. I've had everything from traditional RI littlenecks taken to the next level to his always amazing duck breast (my husband's favorite) and am alway blown away by the depth and perfection of his flavors, plating and attention to detail. Each plate has a touch of whimsy, be it a splash of color from an in-season edible bloom or a thoughtful arrangement of braised shallots to enhance a smoked pork dish. Everything works together to create a feast for the senses, and I love it. ... But what really makes Gracie's shine is the impeccable, thoughtful service. I can't rave enough about the friendly, gracious and perfectly-trained staff. Every person know the menu, wine list and drink menu inside and out and can make a recommendation without a second thought. They're always welcoming, warm and professional, and after coming here regularly for the last 6 years, it still stuns me when they remember small details and, of course, our food allergies.
