This was our first visit to this restaurant, and we truly enjoyed our experience. We had reservations for the bar area, which is very well done. While the space is inviting, I personally feel the televisions take away from the otherwise refined atmosphere and give it more of a neighborhood‑bar feel. Our server, Sarah, was absolutely fantastic. Her service was impeccable, especially considering she was managing both the bar and our table. We started with the Antipasto, which was excellent. My wife ordered the Pollo Limone, and I had the Linguine Shrimp Scampi--both dishes were flavorful and very enjoyable. What stood out most was the décor. The restaurant's setting in a beautifully restored Victorian home creates a charming ambiance and makes it an ideal choice for a date night. Highly recommended for a romantic evening out. My fiance and I came here on a random Thursday night for a date night and had a lovely time! DIdn't have any trouble getting a table. We love love love that there is adequate parking here always. Inside was also very cute, feels like you're walking through a home! Very nice decorations and a lot of their awards and signs seen around the house! Their red sauce was so good, highly recommend any of their foods. They let us know that their chef makes batches of the red sauce in house every few days. Also, their portions are HUGE. This Big fabulous old house is a beautiful setting for dining. Plus it's the Italian American hall too. Starter of 2 the meatballs appetizer with a fluffy ricotta dollop on the side made with 2 or 3 meats is very good. I had Carbonara entree bucatini eldenté pasta with egg creamy sauce and a few cubes of pork. Good enough, but I like more eggy creaminess and wanted more bacon. My friends both had the shrimp pasta dish both expressed the over spiced heat from too much red pepper flakes. I liked the dish but agreed it was way too peppery and not listed as a spicy dish. Even heard a lady behind us say wow so spicy so it was not to our liking. The waiter offered a remake mid way thru our dining but we declined as not to ruin the eve. We enjoyed coffee several desserts. I loved the creme brûlée with a very crunchy crust to the thin amount of velvety crème. The lemon oil cake was fine, with the whip cream and raspberry sauce. The server was nice, he made recommendations and conversation. The building has such history and fresco murals discovered in a reno made it interesting. If these walls could talk.... My daughter turned 20 yesterday and we celebrated at this amazing restaurant that we were excited to try in Federal Hill. As soon as we pulled into the parking lot, I could tell we were going to love this place! Beautiful exterior and interior and authentically Italian! We visited Italy this past fall, and felt like we were back! The food, wine, menu choices and hospitality were amazing! Our server Francesca was top notch and made the evening extra special! We ordered the eggplant and meatballs for the appetizers, my daughter and her friends got the chicken Parmesan and shrimp scampi, I got the lobster ravioli, my husband got the Bolognese and my son got spaghetti and meatballs. Truly a hidden gem! Found this restaurant on TikTok and so happy we chose this place for our annual friend's Christmas dinner. The ambience was amazing and the building was gorgeous. One of the servers gave us a little history on the building which was so cool! The drinks & food were both great. Highly recommend the short rib over the creamy polenta. Truly was one of the best short rib dishes I've had. The only minor issue was the polenta was cold. Other than that everything was amazing! Our table also go the root vegetable ravioli, the pork special, a pasta dish, and the chicken dish. All were truly great. Literal HEAVEN! My bf and I came to this beautiful restaurant that is set in an old Victorian home that I was told used to be a funeral home, for valentines Day. At first you notice how gorgeous the place is. Then you meet the very well trained, attentive and cheery staff. They'll seat you, and then the real fun begins. Maria's Cucina was great! The staff that you walked by were very welcoming and friendly. Once seated and having a couple of drinks I ended up ordering the chicken parm, which was made perfectly. It was crispy, but not too crispy if that makes sense, and the portion were big enough for another meal. Absolutely one of the best chicken parms I've ever had. It's hard to find a well rounded restaurant with great service, food, and pricing. Not to mention a place that has a parking lot also which is convenient. I visited Maria's Cucina with my girlfriend for my birthday. It was a first for both of us and we will def be going back! Our waiter was fantastic giving us some history on the building and the different things it's been over the years. He even told us that we should go upstairs to check out the event room where they have all this federal hill memorabilia. We started with wine and the calamari. It was one of the best I've had, crispy and with tentacles like a good calamari should have. For an entree I got the bolognese which was a large portion and delicious. This was the third time we had reservations but the first time we actually made it to Maria's Cucina. Too bad life got in the way previously because our experience was five star and we are sorry we didn't get here sooner. We arrived 20 minutes early and our table was still occupied so we went into the bar. While deciding what we wanted to drink, we were offered seats at a high top in the bar. Very thoughtful. Our drinks were delivered promptly and we didn't realize we were sitting for 40 minutes before our table was ready. Very relaxed and enjoyable pre-dinner experience. Our dinner server, Tony, was efficient and present at the right times. One of our friends and I both had the bone-in veal chop parm served with a side of pasta. The veal was a sizable portion of some of the best veal I've had in a very long time. As the saying goes, "I can't believe I ate the whole thing!" I couldn't help myself; it was that good. My wife and our other friend had the veal Marsala. The veal cutlets were tender and they were served with mashed potatoes (just ok) and my wife subbed green beans for asparagus and said the beans were fabulous. Although we were stuffed, we didn't want the experience to end so we split a chocolate cake and vanilla gelato. The cake was ok; the icing yummy and the gelato very good. We had glasses of a Tuscan blend that were delicious and reasonably priced at $11. The building is beautiful and on the national Register of Historic Places and deservedly do. This follow up review is written to once again send kudos to the owner, manager(s), chef, and all waitstaff. We had a sumptuous meal in late July with wonderful Marcella as our server, and this last visit, I can clearly confirm all of those words with cheery Corey. In both visits, we were fortunate to be able to sit on the beautiful porch to enjoy the warm weather. Once again, the bread was fresh, with a crusty exterior, and soft, smooth interior perfect for soaking up Cucina Maria's delicious sauces. This time, we enjoyed the arugula, beet salad as well as the delectable wedge salad splitting each of them. Our entrees, the tender pan-seared Statler style chicken breast served over perfectly prepared sautéed broccoli rabe risotto, topped with a savory lemon butter sauce; the veal parmigiana, which was breaded, pan-fried and topped with a fabulous house marinara sauce, topped with fresh mozzarella, and served with a rigatoni pomodoro. Note that this is served bone-in but it is fairly easy to remove and seems to make the veal even more delicious. A different entree tried during this visit was the Bracioli Di Manzo which is tender beef filled with pine nuts, golden raisins, pecorino cheese, and braised in pomodoro sauce and red wine served over creamy polenta. Our request for risotto instead of polenta and was happily substituted! Cannot say enough positives about this restaurant, their generous portions and luscious entrees. I have no idea how this man does what he does but he's incredible. I believe it's still associated with the Italo American Club. It's a beautiful three story building with original dark wood and well lit by an abundance of pretty chandeliers. We were seated quickly and our server was so sweet. The wait for our entrees was quite long and we were told it was because there was a large party going on on the upper floor. We had the calamari while we waited and they were tender and tasty. While our plates were flavorful, they were over sauced. From the chicken, to the salmon, to the cannelloni. A little less would have sufficed. My cannelloni was supposed to have a mixture of sausage and spinach, topped with mascarpone, but I saw very little spinach and it was topped with slices of provolone? It was good, but what had turned me to this dish was the description with rosemary and white truffle oil. I did not detect a hint of either. That was disappointing, it was pretty much a red sauce. Thank you Restaurant Week for finding me this gem! It all starts with a great menu where i can't decide what I want to order because of all the great options. It is always great to go with someone else and finding a way to convince them to get something you want to try too. Big win tonight. Our apps were great. The Calamari was perfectly cooked. The balsamic and peppers on the side threw me at first because I am so used to them already being on them, but I love a good sauce and I really love a good sauce that I can dip into. The Sausage and Broccoli Rabe were another winner. The sausage was flavorful and the Broccoli Rabe was tender (not too tender) and well seasoned (garlic goodness). Our Entrees were the Flat Iron Steak (a perfect medium rare) with a great wine reduction and fantastic roasted potatoes. We also tried the Chicken Carciofi which came with artichoke hearts, roasted red peppers and a fabulous lemony sauce. For dessert we went with the Lava Cake and the Chocolate Chip Bread Pudding.
