I made reservations for 40 people (funeral) for Monday. We agreed on a price and told them that I would let them know if I want an open bar. On Sunday, late morning, i called and left a message for the owner and his wife. The call was not returned and I called back at 3:30. Received a couple of texts telling me that since I did not let them know about the bar they canceled the whole thing. read more

To start out, out waitress Francesca was awesome! We went for a family's anniversary and just wow! Very traditional Italian. Loved the strict "hats off" rule. Proper dress, etc. The place is gorgeous, very clean, crystal chandeliers. Now the food, No inflated prices here. 44$ For a humongous veal parm, also the best tasting I've had in my career thus far. The eggplant mozzarella appetizer was tremendous, as was their wine recommendations. (Ask about their blends) I usually despise them but this one was divine. I do highly recommend this place, love that they have their own parking, makes it easy and well loved by the older folks! read more

My fiance and I came here on a random Thursday night for a date night and had a lovely time! DIdn't have any trouble getting a table. We love love love that there is adequate parking here always. Inside was also very cute, feels like you're walking through a home! Very nice decorations and a lot of their awards and signs seen around the house! Their red sauce was so good, highly recommend any of their foods. They let us know that their chef makes batches of the red sauce in house every few days. Also, their portions are HUGE. We took home half of what we ate and it was still great as leftovers! read more

Due to family illness, some time went by before we were able to return. It was a beautiful evening so we enjoyed outside dining on the porch - a bit windy, but fun! As we learned from our lovely server, Francesca, a new chef was on board and this individual definitely made a difference, Our beet salad was thoroughly delicious with tasty tender beets! My Pollo Limone was a pan seared Statler chicken breast served over a scallion parmesan risotto & green beans topped with a white wine lemon butter sauce.Once again, it was very pleasing . Hubby tried his usual favorite there: the Braciola di Manzo consisting of tender beef rolled with pine nuts, golden raisins, pecorino, cheese, then braised in pomodoro & red wine served over creamy polenta & topped with grated romano. It was heavenly as he enjoyed every bite. This was wonderful since the last time it was served to one of our other diners, it was nothing like the present. So we are thrilled that everything was just perfect for us. read more

This Big fabulous old house is a beautiful setting for dining. Plus it's the Italian American hall too. Starter of 2 the meatballs appetizer with a fluffy ricotta dollop on the side made with 2 or 3 meats is very good. I had Carbonara entree bucatini eldenté pasta with egg creamy sauce and a few cubes of pork. Good enough, but I like more eggy creaminess and wanted more bacon. My friends both had the shrimp pasta dish both expressed the over spiced heat from too much red pepper flakes. I liked the dish but agreed it was way too peppery and not listed as a spicy dish. Even heard a lady behind us say wow so spicy so it was not to our liking. The waiter offered a remake mid way thru our dining but we declined as not to ruin the eve. We enjoyed coffee several desserts. I loved the creme brûlée with a very crunchy crust to the thin amount of velvety crème. The lemon oil cake was fine, with the whip cream and raspberry sauce. The server was nice, he made recommendations and conversation. The building has such history and fresco murals discovered in a reno made it interesting. If these walls could talk.... The high ceilings the glittering chandeliers and grand flower displays all made it for a special dining atmosphere. read more

My wife and I ate there this past Saturday. We both felt ill within an hour of finishing our meal. We are both vegetarian and I reached out to the owner to see if there was any meat in the Pomodoro Sauce served with the eggplant. His one sentence response was "It is not a meat based sauce !!!!" The only other item we shared was Tiramisu. Definitely won't be back unless i feel like spending the night running to the bathroom. read more

Maria's Cucina hosted our recent wedding reception. I made arrangements with the previous owner and was blind-sided to learn that he had sold the restaurant one month prior to our wedding. I met with new owners Raymond and Brynn and they were both outstanding. They immediately made us comfortable that they were prepared to make our wedding reception a beautiful and memorable event. And WOW did they deliver. The food was excellent, the service truly top-notch, and it is a stunning and classy venue. Our waiter Paul was exceptional. This was our first visit to this restaurant, and we truly enjoyed our experience. We had reservations for the bar area, which is very well done. While the space is inviting, I personally feel the televisions take away from the otherwise refined atmosphere and give it more of a neighborhood‑bar feel. Our server, Sarah, was absolutely fantastic. Her service was impeccable, especially considering she was managing both the bar and our table. We started with the Antipasto, which was excellent. My wife ordered the Pollo Limone, and I had the Linguine Shrimp Scampi--both dishes were flavorful and very enjoyable. What stood out most was the décor. The restaurant's setting in a beautifully restored Victorian home creates a charming ambiance and makes it an ideal choice for a date night. Highly recommended for a romantic evening out. We will definitely be returning soon. read more

Truly a hidden gem! Found this restaurant on TikTok and so happy we chose this place for our annual friend's Christmas dinner. The ambience was amazing and the building was gorgeous. One of the servers gave us a little history on the building which was so cool! The drinks & food were both great. Highly recommend the short rib over the creamy polenta. Truly was one of the best short rib dishes I've had. The only minor issue was the polenta was cold. Other than that everything was amazing! Our table also go the root vegetable ravioli, the pork special, a pasta dish, and the chicken dish. All were truly great. Dessert was also great - our favorite was the chocolate bodina but the tiramisu and the olive oil can were also table favs. Highly recommend & we truly cannot wait to go back. read more

My daughter turned 20 yesterday and we celebrated at this amazing restaurant that we were excited to try in Federal Hill. As soon as we pulled into the parking lot, I could tell we were going to love this place! Beautiful exterior and interior and authentically Italian! We visited Italy this past fall, and felt like we were back! The food, wine, menu choices and hospitality were amazing! Our server Francesca was top notch and made the evening extra special! We ordered the eggplant and meatballs for the appetizers, my daughter and her friends got the chicken Parmesan and shrimp scampi, I got the lobster ravioli, my husband got the Bolognese and my son got spaghetti and meatballs. Following our dinner , I had a great espresso martini and Francesca brought my daughter a slice of cheesecake with a candle for her birthday. Everything was absolutely delicious. Maria's Cucina was great! The staff that you walked by were very welcoming and friendly. Once seated and having a couple of drinks I ended up ordering the chicken parm, which was made perfectly. It was crispy, but not too crispy if that makes sense, and the portion were big enough for another meal. Absolutely one of the best chicken parms I've ever had. It's hard to find a well rounded restaurant with great service, food, and pricing. Not to mention a place that has a parking lot also which is convenient. Literal HEAVEN! My bf and I came to this beautiful restaurant that is set in an old Victorian home that I was told used to be a funeral home, for valentines Day. At first you notice how gorgeous the place is. Then you meet the very well trained, attentive and cheery staff. They'll seat you, and then the real fun begins. When I tell you I had to literally CLOSE MY EYES while eating, it was THAT good!!! I also had it heated up the next day, and it was JUST AS GOOD! I CAN NOT WAIT TO GO BACK! Located in the Federal Hill section of Providence, this restaurant appeals the senses right away. The building is a 100+ year old Victorian house, replete with stained glass, wrap around porch, and evidence of elegance inside as individual dining rooms radiate to the outside. Dined there for the first time after being curious for many years to try it out.the restaurant is in a great old Victorian building that is home to the Italio American organization of Providence. The dining rooms are in the several rooms w thin the home. It is a very relaxing environment. The menu is traditional Italian American cuisine. Our table started with an antipasto & fried mozzarella squares which was very flavorful. Oh yes, we were there to celebrate my sisters birthday. I ordered the braciole which was served with polenta. It was a dish tried for the first time but was very familiar with the dish. The beef was very tender & it was stuffed with pine nuts , raisins . It was very good , nicely flavored & the beef was tender. For dessert we had the lemon olive oil cake. I have had olive oil cake at many restaurants & this one is a keeper. If you're ever in Providence & looking for some good, traditional old world Italian food, please try this place. The service & wait staff is top notch & atmosphere is pleasant. The building is exquisite & welcomed the intricate decor of each of the dining rooms. read more

Once again, hats off to the staff to Maria's Cucina in Providence. This is our go to place for special occasions. Fabulous food, top notch service. The Pollo Chicken was the best I have ever had and the risotto is perfect. My Mother In Law had filet mignon and loved every bite. It was her birthday so we were able to celebrate her 39 + shipping and handling birthday with a crème brûlée for dessert. My husband's Carbonara was so good he raved about it. I visited Maria's Cucina with my girlfriend for my birthday. It was a first for both of us and we will def be going back! Our waiter was fantastic giving us some history on the building and the different things it's been over the years. He even told us that we should go upstairs to check out the event room where they have all this federal hill memorabilia. We started with wine and the calamari. It was one of the best I've had, crispy and with tentacles like a good calamari should have. For an entree I got the bolognese which was a large portion and delicious. This was the third time we had reservations but the first time we actually made it to Maria's Cucina. Too bad life got in the way previously because our experience was five star and we are sorry we didn't get here sooner. We arrived 20 minutes early and our table was still occupied so we went into the bar. While deciding what we wanted to drink, we were offered seats at a high top in the bar. Very thoughtful. Our drinks were delivered promptly and we didn't realize we were sitting for 40 minutes before our table was ready. Very relaxed and enjoyable pre-dinner experience. Our dinner server, Tony, was efficient and present at the right times. One of our friends and I both had the bone-in veal chop parm served with a side of pasta. The veal was a sizable portion of some of the best veal I've had in a very long time. As the saying goes, "I can't believe I ate the whole thing!" I couldn't help myself; it was that good. My wife and our other friend had the veal Marsala. The veal cutlets were tender and they were served with mashed potatoes (just ok) and my wife subbed green beans for asparagus and said the beans were fabulous. Although we were stuffed, we didn't want the experience to end so we split a chocolate cake and vanilla gelato. The cake was ok; the icing yummy and the gelato very good. We had glasses of a Tuscan blend that were delicious and reasonably priced at $11. The building is beautiful and on the national Register of Historic Places and deservedly do. Very good service, a happy place, very good traditional Italian cuisine in beautiful a surroundings. Isn't this what a Saturday night out should be? read more

I was looking forward to trying this establishment out since it changed names. I had been to Spirito's, the former restaurant, and I really enjoyed it. I believe it's still associated with the Italo American Club. It's a beautiful three story building with original dark wood and well lit by an abundance of pretty chandeliers. We were seated quickly and our server was so sweet. The wait for our entrees was quite long and we were told it was because there was a large party going on on the upper floor. We had the calamari while we waited and they were tender and tasty. While our plates were flavorful, they were over sauced. From the chicken, to the salmon, to the cannelloni. A little less would have sufficed. My cannelloni was supposed to have a mixture of sausage and spinach, topped with mascarpone, but I saw very little spinach and it was topped with slices of provolone? Ambiance: 4 Service: 4 ( noT her fault the kitchen had issues) Food : 3 (too much sauce saturation) read more

Having lived in Providence for four years, and having been there multiple times every year since, I thought I knew the best Italian-American food in that city. Federal Hill has always been my favorite Little Italy in the country. That's where I had my first genuine, real Italian food - the bolognese from Camille's the night before Freshman orientation. It was *the dish* that opened my eyes to what great food could be. Last year passing through town (see prior review below) we were unable to get a table for five in one of the classic spots - Joe Marzilli's, Camille's, Andino's, Cassarino's - so we found a place nearby on Broadway instead that would allow us to eat outdoors, and that we expected would be not-that-good. Last night heading through town again, we made our 2nd stop at Maria's Cucina - see, even the name doesn't sound like it - and after our dinner there, I officially proclaim it as my favorite Italian-American in all of Providence (and my 2nd favorite anywhere). It is the best carbonara I have had anywhere, and it is the best bolognese I have had in recent memory. The chef - a former high-end, big city sous chef and head chef - is Guy Charles, who worked in some of the country's great kitchens on both coasts before landing in Providence. He's an Italian-American who brings classical technique to old school food. We were making enough of a fuss that they actually sent Guy out to meet us. Sweet man. Very engaging. Powerful handshake. And he couldn't have been happier to meet Brooklynites who preferred his stuff to what they could get back home. I'm telling you - I'm a lifetime devotee of all those other Federal Hill places I mentioned above. This place is better than all of them. read more

We came in a Tuesday night to check this place out. It's an older building beautifully renovated. My husband got the Vitello e piselli and was very happy with it. I got the gnocchi toscana. It was good, but what had turned me to this dish was the description with rosemary and white truffle oil. I did not detect a hint of either. That was disappointing, it was pretty much a red sauce. Overall good food, but their prices are a bit high. 28$ for chicken parm is absurd which was a turn off to us... read more

Thank you Restaurant Week for finding me this gem! It all starts with a great menu where i can't decide what I want to order because of all the great options. It is always great to go with someone else and finding a way to convince them to get something you want to try too. Big win tonight. Our apps were great. The Calamari was perfectly cooked. The balsamic and peppers on the side threw me at first because I am so used to them already being on them, but I love a good sauce and I really love a good sauce that I can dip into. The Sausage and Broccoli Rabe were another winner. The sausage was flavorful and the Broccoli Rabe was tender (not too tender) and well seasoned (garlic goodness). Our Entrees were the Flat Iron Steak (a perfect medium rare) with a great wine reduction and fantastic roasted potatoes. We also tried the Chicken Carciofi which came with artichoke hearts, roasted red peppers and a fabulous lemony sauce. For dessert we went with the Lava Cake and the Chocolate Chip Bread Pudding. Where the Lava Cake was good, the Bread Pudding was FANTASTIC! The building (old house) that Maria's is in is great. This is a great addition to the area and we will definitely be back. read more
