The goodwill in Bend is a very good thrift store. We like to donate here because they never turn up their nose at our donations like some other thrift stores do. When you go into the store it smells very clean. I always find something; a book, some clothes, shoes, we have even found tools and kitchen gadgets. The Redmond Goodwill is also very good. When I read all these reviews from people complaining that the prices were too high, I laughed out loud! Prices too high at Goodwill? You have to be kidding, I thought. Well, after finally checking the place out, I see what they mean. Mind you, this review applies solely to their (large) book collection. I was stoked to see such a big selection of books but I couldn't believe they are asking $3-5 for most of the PAPERBACK books I picked up to check out. I can see if they are in brand new condition and they are recent titles but some of the examples I saw were absurd. I'll give you just one example: A Rick Steves Guidebook from, get this, 2001 was $5! We are talking about a 13 year old guidebook! 5 bucks? It should be 50 cents. I like to support a good cause, but I don't like to overpay. The paperbacks they sell for $3-5 in this place go for 50 cents up to a max of $2 at the semi-annual Bend Library book sales (another good cause). The next one is coming up in January so I'll wait. A little bit of everything-a whole lot of nothing. And if the goal is to sell donated items to make money for the needy they are doing a poor job of it. The prices are totally out of line expensive. Really, is Goodwill more than a overblown yard sale? No. Save yourself some time and just go buy things new at Wal-Mart. Not friendly and unpleasant experience with employees working on the exterior. Never been inside so could be a different experience.

I have been to every Goodwill in the Portland area and most in Oregon and SW Washington. The high prices at the Bend Goodwill are close to qualifying it as a boutique like the ones in downtown Portland and Hood River. I found many nice items, mostly just a touch below retail prices. Every popular name brand was marked up significantly higher than I usually see. I picked out a sharp Nike jacket, only I put it back after seeing the $49.99 tag. It was probably $80 new 3-4 years ago. A similar story on a pair of North Face hiking pants. $29.99 for A5s, which are several years old. I bought a similar pair last year at Goodwill 6th in Portland for $9.99. Like many newer Goodwills, the store is clean and organized. Kudos for having a nice toy aisle, even during the afternoon. Most look like a tornado hit. I gave two stars for that and friendly staff on my visit. If you like Goodwill, there might be a few deals here, but you will need to bring your patience and go through a lot of higher priced things. read more

Great selection, but I almost never end up buying anything because it's too damn expensive! $200 for a rug that's been there for over a month, and they won't drop the price? Ok. Used storage ottoman for more than Target where it's probably from? Ripoff. I used to shop at goodwill weekly for household items, but I might as well just go to Target since it's cheaper, and new. read more

Used to shop ant Redmond and Bend all the time but last few years they are more like Macy's prices HORRIBLE. I have found other places to donate to as well, that really help people. read more

While most Goodwill stores would only get a 1-star rank from me (mostly do to the business model), this one deserves much higher. The store was VERY well organized and was very tidy, much more so than any other Goodwill store I've been in. Not sure if they are just hiring more skilled workforce their instead of, well, dummies. This Goodwill is ridiculous! Prices are way too high. Dropped by to find some jeans to turn into shorts and the cheapest ones were $9.99. Keep in mind those jeans are really worn and faded. Non-faded jeans were $13-$25. I even saw a pair of jeans for $49, which I googled the brand of the jeans and the same pair is priced at $40 online. Simple black tank top was $7.99. I just bought the same looking tank top from Kohls for $4.99. Such a ripoff! I would much rather buy new from Ross, Walmart & Kohls ESPECIALLY if its going to be cheaper. I'm originally from a Hawaii and could find decent, nice clothes for $1-$5. I also love to read thrifting blogs and when they shop at their local Goodwill they will buy a bunch of stuff for good prices. I guess I'm just saying that I know Goodwill in other places are not bad but Goodwill headquarters needs to do something about the Bend location so that people don't feel like they are getting ripped off. read more

My grandson who has special needs (non of which are physical) worked diligently for a year at the Goodwill in Bend. He was a dedicated worker and liked his job. He walked miles to and from work, from the west side, every day. In blistering heat and snow, and rain. He never complained. He was never reprimanded or written up. He never missed work. He was recently fired. They would not give him a reason. It was just days before he was to receive a $1.28 raise. I am livid, and disgusted. I haven't donated to them for years, when I learned how much money there CEO makes and learned of some of there underhanded practices. Goodwill is a sham. read more

Poor poor poor customer service my brother n law was profiled during his shopping experience and because of that was treated like garbage when he went to speak to the manager she laughed in his face and didn't care what he had to say. I have tried to donate twice now at the Goodwill donation center on Hwy 20. The man there holds a bin while WATCHING an older woman who uses a cane load it up!! He even tried to not accept certain things....I wound up going to the main Goodwill on Hwy 97, and had help unloading things, and they accepted ALL of my items. The old guy at the Hwy 20 location is very rude, lazy and disrespectful!! read more

Tonight I went into this store and a supervisor named Kirsten was rude and took product away from me saying it was priced wrong ... as if I had switched the tags. The purse was from JC penny's and was 15 years old. She claimed it was worth a lot more and didn't even give me the opportunity to buy it. First of all ... it was the price that was represented to a customer and to take it away from the customer and tell them that are charging more is wrong and practicing in unethical business practices. I absolutely wouldn't change pricing on a purse that isn't worth anything. It was the perfect fit for my camera lenses as to why I really wanted it. I will remove this review once I talk to the manager to see if he will make it right. Being a business owner myself for over 25 years, I would immediately fire an employee who acted so horribly to their customers. I spend a lot of money at this goodwill ... but if they don't make this right ... I will be driving to redmond from now on. read more

The rules regarding dressing rooms are ridiculous. The woman who helped me was so kind and apologetic. But she showed me the rule sheet on a clipboard that they have to read every day--which says that they not only must count the items, but they must carry them into the fitting rooms FOR us. Also, there is only one person allowed into the fitting room, no exceptions. So, when I brought my disabled teen daughter to try on formal dresses for her first dance, I was not allowed to go in and help her with zippers, etc. I was told that I could stand outside the door and she could open it and i could help her with the door open. Exposed for anyone to see! And I couldn't take the things she had finished with and trade them for more things. The worker had to bring them in to her--which meant that she had to get dressed in her own clothes again first. It was embarrassing and humiliating. I have shopped at low end and high end stores. . .and never seen anything like it. It was appalling and I won't shop there anymore. read more

I donated some purses a month or two ago. Later I was looking for my expensive jewelry that had a great deal of meaning to me and could not find them. I called the store to see what they do if they find nice jewelry tucked into a purse inside of a jewelry bag. The supervisor told me they would consider it a donation and process it. She wouldn't even look to see if the jewelry might still be there or not. Super bummed about this. I know it was my mistake to have possibly left the jewelry in a purse but mistakes happen. I would have hoped that they would have done the right thing and held onto to it for the owner to claim. This makes me not want to donate Goodwill anymore. read more

I have always enjoyed the people who work at this goodwill, but the selection is marginal and the prices are high. It's always bothered me a little that this store which is operated completely off of donations will not negotiate on their prices. But for me, the most disturbing aspect of what they refer to as a RETAIL STORE is that if you pay cash AND come back to return something WITH THE RECEIPT, you will not get your cash back and will only be offered a store credit. One final note, I have been told many times that the management has more merchandise in back and is waiting for product to move through before bringing it out. I have a suggestion, lower your prices or at least be willing to negotiate and you will have an easier time moving your product. read more

Was able to find a few things that weren't overpriced, but compared to other thrift stores I've been to is very overpriced. Was excited when I saw a suitcase I recognized from Target, looked at the price and it was $50! More than it was at Target. Husband found pair of jeans that were $80. Yes this goodwill is clean and there is a large inventory, but the prices don't make me too excited. read more

Horrible customer service. Tried to return a pair of shoes because after about 30 minutes of wear they gave me blisters. I'd bought them 3 days prior, had the receipt still. Lady took them to the back to 'verify', and then came back and said because the sticker was missing and she couldn't find the marker numerals on them, they couldn't be returned. Which was fine, until she threw in "we wouldn't have sold them in this condition anyway" basically accusing me of attempted theft right to my face even after I had accepted that without the price sticker it was a no-go. Even if that kind of swindle happens from time to time, it's about the most rude thing ever to assume every customer is lying and blatantly accuse, especially over a 10$ item. Needless to say, I will not be returning to the Bend Goodwill any time soon, if ever. read more

I was recently in and just wanted to give a shout out to good will because the experience was pretty awful. I was embarrassed for the employees and for the customers. There were three employees on Wednesday (April, 26,2017) night I believe. There were a line of customers and rather than the employees helping the customers in an ordered consistent fashion they took the time instead to belittle each other. They made their argument very public which was all regarding how each and everyone of the employees had been late to work that day, and taking breaks at poor time choices. The two ladies in front, were harshly talking back and fourth about the other and then decided to bring the poor lady who was on break into it and continued to bad mouth her. I am embarrassed for the employees, they are all middle aged or older and know this was not the time or place to air each others dirty laundry. When a customer comes in we don't want to be brought into the middle of this type of drama. Its simply unprofessional. I hope these ladies understand its a privilege to have any job, no matter where you work and in the future are able to keep personal private issues at home or at least in the back when customers aren't waiting to be helped. I have no issue with waiting in a line due to a business being busy, however this was the most unprofessional behavior I have seen in a long. It doesn't matter where you work and if you like the job or not, you don't negatively impact a business because you personally have no self pride or respect. I hope good will in the future is able to put an end to this. read more

This store is really expensive. I've occasionally found something worth buying here, but I'm really selective when I shop at Goodwill because their prices almost rival retail. In fact, I once saw a lamp that was obviously donated from target because it had a decorative piece broken off (I saw them for sale at target that same month), and the Goodwill price was within a few dollars of the retail. read more

Quality stuff often pops up here, including vintage clothes (good ones), cheap books and tons of brass decorations. Unfortunately, this is the most egregiously expensive Goodwill I have encountered. Considering that their wares have been donated, their prices are near-infuriating--some of their clothes are sold for consignment prices. I would recommend the thrift stores in Eugene, and the bins in Portland, if you have the gas money. read more
