I was excited to try this recent addition to the Georgetown Downtown Square. However, they just opened and it shows. The service is slow and inattentive. I got my food quickly after I finally ordered which is never a good sign. The fried chicken was decent but only slightly warm. Luckily, the macaroni and cheese was excellent and the proper temperature. The restaurant is beautiful but the acoustics are terrible and it's very loud. I will likely return and give it one more shot before making up my mind on this eatery. read more

My friend and I try out local Georgetown places on the weekends. This restaurant has been many things since I was a teenager. This I have to say is the best. We both had the chicken fried steak and eggs. This is not a plate size CFS but damn, it was delicious. We.also got fried pickles and smothered biscuits. By the time our meals came, we were full. But it was all so good, we took our leftovers home. Here's the kicker, I'm not a fried chicken fan. But hubby wanted it so I ordered it to go. They waited late into our meal to start it and it was piping hot when it was time to go. My car smelled so good I had to have some when I got home. I don't know what they marinate it in, but it's amazing. I hope this place is around for the long term and judging by the patronage, it is here to stay. Went there at 9 am on Sunday and was seated quickly. Service was very quick! I got chicken and biscuit and chicken and waffle. The chickens were juicy and tender. Waffles were too sweet and soft for my taste. The maple syrup was good but could be less sweet. The potatoes fries was yummy! read more

We enjoyed our lunch today at Goodfolks. They were...good folks. Friendly service, good food, great atmosphere, and most importantly we felt welcomed. The salad was fresh. The honey butter biscuits were delicious. If you like Brussels sprouts, the honey sriracha Brussels sprouts are exactly sriracha want (sorry). My kids both found something they liked on the kids menu. I liked the chicken sandwich but would have preferred it didn't have cheese on it - just my preference. Support Goodfolks in Georgetown! The food at this place is fantastic, and the staff is wonderful. Sofia, our waitress, provided excellent service. We started with chips and queso as an appetizer, but the chips were soggy. I've been here twice now. The first time I was hesitant to write a review because they had just opened. I stopped in for Sunday brunch and got the special, their brunch menu was extremely limited and a little pricey....I wish I hadn't gone for brunch and instead had gone for dinner my first time, which is why I'm writing this review. The dinner was DELICIOUS! However, the service is sub par. After two times, both times extremely inattentive staff. Even went to the bar before my table was ready and wound up waiting at least 15 minutes to even be acknowledged. But because the dinner was so good, am upping my rating. I got a variety of appetizers, the Brussels sprouts (my favorite) were crispy and flavorful and the fried pickles that had a delicious dipping sauce and the bacon wrapped andouille. For dinner I had the chicken sandwich and it blew me away. read more

Love the building and what they did with it! Very cute design and remodel! We are always happy to see new restaurants come to Georgetown! CONS: *I got the salmon and the salad was GROSS, very wilty and pretty much inedible. The bottom of the salmon was soggy from the salad and tasted very bland. (ya ya I know, ordering salmon at a place that specializes in fried chicken, maybe I deserved this) *We got a fried chicken and ranch dressing appetizer, which was good but I wish they would have served ranch on side it was just too much. I mean it was drowning in ranch! Also the chicken was kind of cold :( *My daughter got the fried chicken and waffles and again it was sort of cold and the waffles tasted like HEB mix, not bad but not great. She barely ate any of it. I believe this place is mediocre compared to some of the chicken places I have been too. The chicken tenders are not jumbo they are about the size of canes so when ordering keep that in mind. Macaroni is delicious, chicken is average nothing to rave over. Chicken biscuits soup has little to no flavor, too much heavy cream or milk and very little seasoning, very bland. Salad comes already tossed in dressing so lettuce was soggy, lemonade was good not to sweet not to sour. Over all this place is definitely a 5 out of 10, very average but definitely a cute ambience. Driving home from Dallas to San Antonio, we stopped for lunch at Goodfolks. The fried chicken was delicious and the portion was large enough to bring some home. I have been wanting to try this place out for sometime now. What a nice little dining spot in downtown Georgetown! The food was great! I went with chicken because that is clearly their center piece here. The white home made pimento is also very addicting! I recommend getting crackers instead of chips. Here are my only 2 negatives, one the place is loud when it's busy, wife and had to practically get inches from each other just to speak. Two, don't get the margarita! It is so sour! I think it is just fresh lime juice and tequila, but was awful, they do at least have a decent beer selection. I highly recommend this place however I would say try and go at a time when they're not busy it will be a lot more enjoyable! read more

Walking into any restaurant on the corner of Austin Avenue & 7th St. brings back a feeling of nostalgia, as I have been a patron of this establishment since I was a little girl. Finally, a place has opened up that I am confident is here to stay. Starting with the hospitality, I was greeted with a smile and polite welcome even though there was standing room only, freezing temperatures outside, and close to an hour wait. Those circumstances often result in a hurried "hello, the wait is an hour for a party of 2 or more," which usually means "we don't have time for you." From the moment I was greeted, to the moment I left the restaurant, the staff stood out. I noticed the owner greeting guests and talking with tables, but was most impressed by the teamwork. Each member of the staff appeared to be there for everyone dining in. For ex. On our way to our table on the 2nd floor, a smiling GoodFolks employee quickly spotted my dad and his cane and asked, "is that going to be okay?" before offering him her arm. I'm not sure her role in the restaurant, but she went out of her way to assist a customer in need though she wasn't our server. The biscuits and honey butter are superb! The chicken has an excellent crisp and flavor! We saved room for dessert and absolutely died for the bread pudding. read more

I was a regular for a while and stopped going because I was busy and did not go out to eat. My review is not a criticism. I reserve five stars for exceptional, and four stars for a good restaurant. The menu is good. It could probably be improved, but is fine given the price point. The bar is good. Again, good, but not exceptional. The staff is very good or perhaps a little better. It is a pleasant place to go. It is clearly liked by many people. It is busy at the right times. I imagine the owner or owners are doing well. It is probably the best sit down restaurant on the square, though there is a hole in the wall Mexican place that I also like given the prices and staff. read more

We love coming to Goodfolks for dinner! Both times we've come in for dinner, Julia has been our server. She is so friendly, attentive, hard working, knowledgeable about the menu, happy to answer all our questions--the service she delivers is just impeccable. Julia is extremely personable, professional and she really goes above and beyond as a server, which isn't something you see a lot at restaurants nowadays. It was impressive, too, because the entire downstairs dining room was filled up and it looked to us like the vast majority of the tables were being cared for by Julia. We observed her moving swiftly from table to table, checking in on every guest in the restaurant, refilling water, clearing plates out of the way and just always going the extra mile that distinguishes excellent customer service from being just plain "ok." Julia literally never missed a beat! She delivered our rather complicated food order 100% accurately and at perfectly timed intervals (ensuring our apps/soup came out first), and not once did Julia let the sheer number of tables she was in charge of affect the quality of the service she provided. We hope Goodfolks knows how lucky they are to have such a hard working, skilled sever on their staff. We'll for sure be back for the yummy food and fantastic service. Cheers! read more

3/14/23 - party of 4 After eating at several establishments around the Square, it was now time to try Goodfolks. Wait was to be 20 minutes, but after 8 minutes we were seated. ( always nice to be called early) Ambiance is nice , we were seated upstairs. (There's and elevator AND bathrooms upstairs) Drinks: Happy hour :-) , but we all felt the drinks were weak. Starters: Appetizers - Brussel sprouts Amazing , ( definitely order this appetizer) and Andouille Lollipops were delicious. Dinner: Most Entrées, are in the $16-$20 range. 1:Chicken & Waffles GOOD syrup was really good. 2:Chicken strips were of generous size. 3: Andouille & shrimp was tasty. 4: wife hade the catfish App and fries and liked it. The catfish was gently fried. Our waitress was Natalie who was attentive and did a wonderful job insuring we had a great experience. Final Thoughts: Over all a nice establishment. In our discussions afterwards, we all came to the conclusion , that although a bit pricey, ( even a hamburger is 16.00) the VALUE was definitely there. We will be back. read more

We are visiting from out of town and tried this place out because it was close to our hotel and pictures looked good on Yelp. Pros: the customer service was great. Our waitress was sweet, patient with us, and when we had a few things missing from our order or request, she was very attentive. The ambiance was cute. The food was yummy I'm just still trying to figure out if I would ever go back because the price tag. I got the 3 tender meal which came with a side and a biscuit and total it was $21. I personally felt like it was a fancy version of a Canes meal and while it was good, not sure if it was worth the money. I think maybe I would go back for a celebration of some sort. The wait for the food was quite long but I'm not sure if that's because they make it fresh? For sauces the "good sauce" is tasty. The waitress compared it to canes sauce and I think it was pretty close to it. I'd skip the honey mustard -- it was bad. Mac and cheese was delicious and the biscuit was decent. Overall good experience and if money isn't a huge concern I think it's worth the try! read more
