We were seated upstairs at the very end of the area which was great with two rambunctious kids with us. Our server was so sweet and attentive. The food was better than I expected too. Inside the old 'Burger University' building off of the Georgetown Square, Goodfolks is a welcome addition to the growing restaurant scene on the Square. We asked what their specialty is and we were told fried chicken. This is a tall order, and they didn't disappoint. Crispy, moist and tasty. Mashed potatoes were delicious. They were out of the Jalapeño Ranch dipping sauce , for the 4 piece tender with Truffle Mac and Vegetable Fried Rice (recommendation from the server) The Truffle Mac was dry and screaming for flavor, the Vegetable fried rice seemed like Steamed Rice and chopped veggies - not pan fried and no seasoning at all and the chicken tenders were just not a desirable flavor. Wow! First time here and we really enjoyed it. We started off with a sampling of the pimento cheese dip and it was fantastic. I also loved my lavender lemonade, I've never had anything quite like it. I had the chicken tenders with truffle macaroni and also added a side of coleslaw. The tenders were juicy, crispy, and not oily at all! I felt that the breading needed a bit more seasoning though. The mac and cheese was very good, and the coleslaw was amazing. The pricing for a la carte sides is pricey BUT there was at least 2 generous servings in the bowl so you do get your money's worth. My husband got an original wagyu beef burger and fries. The fries were very tasty, they're that crispy battered style. And he really like the burger, and he's a burger snob! I was a bit worried the portions would be small (as is the way with a lot of these hip restaurants) but we both left full and satisfied. I took about 90% of the coleslaw to go because I was stuffed after the chicken and mac. The thing that will stop us from coming back frequently is the price. While the food was very delicious we winced a little when looking at the bill. We came here for lunch but paid a price comparable to a big dinner. The service was good with prompt and friendly servers. The restaurant was crowded but food still came out fairly quickly. The banana pecan French toast was tasty but the bottom of the buns were burned. The Chipotle Egg Skillet was not what was expected. A heavy tomato paste taste masked almost everything else. Could taste the green pepper but the chipotle was just a wee warmth with little flavor. The consistency was like spaghetti sauce and the eggs were all but lost - only the need to cut them once you fished them from the sauce made them apparent. I'm sure there are good things to eat in this restaurant and the passing fried chicken looked good. But I'm not sure when I'll try it. The restaurant is loud - cacophonous in fact. My partner found it impossible to hear and we ended up texting each other to converse. But a few thoughts from our visit... service was really not great. Our server was definitely new and just didn't pick up on certain cues. She carried a plate on top of our clean glasses that she was bringing to the table, touched our food with her fingers, brought half of our party's food out while the other half had to wait more than 10 minutes, would ask if we needed anything and all of our glasses were empty. All around, service was awkward. The food was really good, don't get me wrong. Definitely expensive for what it is. Two really small tenders for $12. This is a cute spot that's pretty popular! We came on a Friday evening and there was a 45 minute wait for two. We ended up waiting about 30 minutes before a table was ready. They took my name and number to text me when a table was available, which was really nice so we didn't have to wait there. Given the location in the square, we walked around while we waited and had a drink a few doors down. The staff were friendly and service was good. We ordered the patty melt and the two piece tenders with Mac n cheese. Both were pretty good, but the Mac n cheese was a little dry. The potatoes that came with the patty melt were really good! Well, it was so good the first time I went back within a month to see if it was consistent. It was. I have had a wait of 45 minutes both times I have been but when you are on the square in Georgetown it is really easy to kill time. We had 6 in our group this time and were seated when we came in. We were greeted quickly with menus, filled water glasses and took drink orders. This time I did order the fried pickles as an appetizer and they did not disappoint. Good pickle, good batter and really good sauce. Each time they have brought out a small sample of their White Pimento Cheese and enough crackers for those at the table. It is a good flavor and might be my next appetizer. The special that night was brisket chili. Most of us ordered that along with the crunchy salmon. I am picky about my chili. While a little more tomato than I prefer it was really good. The brisket in it was nice and tender, I just wish it had been a larger bowl, but I would eat it again. This place is pretty loud which is the only drawback. It is hard to hard to have a conversation when it is packed- and I have not been there when it wasn't. The staff is attentive and friendly, no issues there. One thing I wish they would do is give me a bigger glass of water with ice. My wife picked this place out for lunch and I was happy to grab some to-go food. The absolute star here is the Bacon Jam Fried Rice. OMG, just give me a big old bowl and I can die a happy person. I ordered the Bloody Mary and the Chicken Fried Steak breakfast plate ($18), my friend ordered the Chipotle Egg Skillet ($11) and we shared the Good Dogs ($9). I give the Chicken Fried Steak a 6/10 because it was a small portion for the price and I wasn't sure how I felt about the flavor profile of the gravy. The Bloody Mary was a good size and really flavorful. My friend said she gives the Chipotle Egg Skillet a 5/10. It basically looked like tomato soup with eggs underneath, but she said the flavor was fine. Just not something she would order again. The Good Dogs were not what we envisioned; they were very rich and the sausage to breading ratio was more than we expected. We just love how Georgetown is growing and when we want a break from downtown Austin we can always find something good to eat up North. We stopped in for brunch. While it recommended we make a reservation we were glad we walked in because we were seated in less than 20 minutes. The restaurant is a small corner storefront with an upstairs and downstairs. The ambiance gives elegant and classy the the menu is very much down home and country eating. We ordered a carafe of the pineapple mimosa. It seems they give you the whole bottle but only a small glass of juice so be careful lol! The service was excellent and prompt. The menu doesn't have photos so I'd suggest waiting to order and kind of look around at what others order. That helped me decide on the breakfast sandwich and the Good Dogs with the Biscuit sampler. My wife and I came into town visiting our friends in Georgetown for the 4th of July weekend. They took us to the beautiful "Stars Hollow"-esque and this upscale diner feel. The tall ceilings and open floor plan makes the restaurant feel large and accommodating. First off, the lavender lemonade is impeccable. Getting more than one cup may get expensive with $1.50 refill cost. However, don't let that stop you from getting it! Not too sweet with just the right hint of lavender. The Southern Comfort burger was so much better than I thought it would be. The meat was juicy and moist. The peaches were a surprisingly good addition to the salt from the burger. I would recommend asking them to cut it in half so you don't make a mess from the cheese oozing from the top. The chicken tenders wasn't dry, but full of flavor and juicy. The mash potatoes were creamy and smooth with no potato chunks. It was an incredibly filling meal, especially if you get the biscuit appetizer before! Walking into any restaurant on the corner of Austin Avenue & 7th St. brings back a feeling of nostalgia, as I have been a patron of this establishment since I was a little girl. Finally, a place has opened up that I am confident is here to stay. Starting with the hospitality, I was greeted with a smile and polite welcome even though there was standing room only, freezing temperatures outside, and close to an hour wait. Those circumstances often result in a hurried "hello, the wait is an hour for a party of 2 or more," which usually means "we don't have time for you." From the moment I was greeted, to the moment I left the restaurant, the staff stood out. I noticed the owner greeting guests and talking with tables, but was most impressed by the teamwork. Each member of the staff appeared to be there for everyone dining in. For ex. On our way to our table on the 2nd floor, a smiling GoodFolks employee quickly spotted my dad and his cane and asked, "is that going to be okay?" before offering him her arm. I'm not sure her role in the restaurant, but she went out of her way to assist a customer in need though she wasn't our server. The biscuits and honey butter are superb! Been anxiously awaiting to try this place. A lot of times, trying to get to 7th and Austin, and trying to find a parking spot can be difficult. So, my Fiancée and I decided to try them when they first opened for Sunday Brunch. We got there a little before 10am, and by 10 am, groups of people started to arrive. Since there was only 2 of us, they sat us in the middle of the restaurant at a 2 person table. As we sat there, you could see all the tables and booths filling up quick around us, and people going upstairs ( did not go up there, next time). I was saddened to see they did not have a "brunch menu". It was just the same menu that had all day. They did have a "specials menu" you saw at the hostess table, and our waiter reiterated. But, was only three items. Either yogurt and fresh fruit, Chipotle skillet (*which you would think, as most places, it like eggs over potatoes. Once explained was eggs, over easy in this chipotle sauce in the skillet, with side of toast. So, I guess you can just dip the toast in the skillet?), and then the "French Toast" with bananas, pecans and raisins (explained by the waiter, as they use their hamburger buns, and treat like French toast). So, even though that sounded weird, I did order it, as did not like other choices, and I wanted breakfast. My Fiancée ordered the chicken and waffles (which is on their main menu, and served all day). I also ordered, as read online to try, the Lavender Lemonade. That was very good, and had two glasses of that. When the food arrived, all looked great, but when I tasted my Fiancee's chicken, I got "food envy". The breading on that chicken was amazing! Then the sauce they give you on the side is a mixture of maple syrup and butter....ooo so good! Dip the chicken tender in it (*yes, it is a boneless tender, not a full bone in chicken piece). His waffles were nice an fully too. But, now onto mine. While I enjoyed the topping, the bread part was disappointing. I think they need a "stronger bread". With the syrup (already on there, would have liked on side), and the topping, it may the bread kind of soggy. But, enjoyed the chicken so much, I asked waiter to order a two-piece meal to-go, with the red mashed potatoes. So, while I will be back to try other items, and want to sit upstairs. For entrees, the group ordered shrimp and grits, buffalo chicken gnocchi (definitely a highlight / creative dish), and multiple chicken sandwiche/salads/baskets; again everything amazing and we were very impressed with the size of the entree portions. The sandwiches came with sidewinder fries which were like seasoned jojo fries. There were a few daily specials / lunch options that were not on the standard menu which is always nice to see. Cute place, if not a little strange in its layout. Food was good, service was decent. Biscuits were great.
