Uggggggggggh.
Moved from Irvine to Aliso Viejo (work for big tech company, so if any of my work fam reads this, please be very careful if you're gonna go with these guys).
I asked 11 different moving companies for prices and minimums through Yelp. All of them quoted 2 or 3 hour minimums, except for Good Deeds.
So I made an appointment for 1pm, and 3pm rolls around, and nothing. I call (and get misgendered, yay, but nbd I'm used to it) and Rodney (or Robney per the texts) tells me they're late but will get there in 40 minutes. 4pm rolls around and I call Robney again and he says "they're enroute".
They arrive at 5:17pm, the movers are very nice and polite, nothing bad to say about their demeanor (hence the two stars instead of one) and get my four items (TV, mattress, exercise bike, couch) moved in an hour. Except they smack the couch against a corner wall while moving it in and dent it and chip the paint (can see the concrete underneath. Did not know apartment walls were made of concrete. TIL.) But the guy was pretty apologetic instead of trying to hide it, so again, 2 stars for the movers being decent people.
BUT THEN. "Okay so that'll be a 3 hour minimum charge..." Whoa whoa, hold the phone. I show them the screenshot I took of Robney quoting me "no minimum" and so they call up Robney and let me talk to him.
"That's Yelp not us! It's always been a 3 hour minimum! That's not us! You're the third person to point that out! It's Yelp's fault!"
So... what you're telling me is... LITERALLY the only reason I picked your company over other cheaper movers with 2 hour minimums, is not going to be honored? Plus I missed out on half a day of work, plus now I have to pay out of pocket to repair this dent in my wall.
But hey, at least Robney told me "okay fine we'll take the loss and only charge you for two hours". How gracious, I'm so sorry for putting you out with a loss based on misleading information.
Never got those 10 free boxes, either.
UPDATE 1:
An hour after I posted my review, I got a really angry text from Robney. (I've attached a screenshot.) Yeah, they didn't offload my exercise bike either (he called it a treadmill). I'd gone back to my old place for more boxes, so I didn't get actually get the refund he mentioned. Not that I want it; I don't want to screw over his movers (they were decent people) out of a paycheck.
The angry text plus his reply to my review accusing me of wanting a free ride (I don't want a free ride, I literally gave the movers a $40 tip for the $198 job (cough, $99 job) because they were very nice people) and comments about "screwing over men who are working hard for their families" and deliberately misgendering me in his reply? And even if Yelp somehow is telling people the wrong minimum hours, all this mess could have been avoided if they just mentioned the minimum when confirming the appointment, especially since other customers have been bringing this issue up to them ALREADY.
Literally ALL Rodney had to say last night was "I'm so sorry for the misunderstanding, it's totally our bad; we had to change the minimum because we were taking losses" and I would have given them a 4 star review. Heck, I woulda given them a 4 star review and only asked for an hour's worth of refund (and wall repair) if I had gotten a heartfelt apology this morning. But being deliberately misgendered and being told they regret the day I ever called them up, feels really, REALLY bad.
Yeah I'm bumping this down to one star.
They can keep the bike and their money; going to block them, I just don't want to be yelled at in all caps in text anymore...
UPDATE 2:
After I texted that I didn't want a refund, I got another angry yelp message calling me greedy (new screenshot).
$200 on moving + $40 tip fees.
$200+ exercise bike.
$100+ on half a day of lost wages
$50+ (wall repair)
$30 on 10x cardboard boxes (Lowe's pricing)
I paid $620+ for a job advertised for $100 + tip.
Plus dealing with repeated harassing text/voice messages until I eventually had to block his number.
Also, I read the other 1 and 2 star reviews for this company. Apparently what this guy does is offer a refund for garbage service in exchange for changing the review to a 5 star. And screams at them in all caps or accuses them of being a competitor or former employee, if they refuse the refund or don't follow through with changing their review.
Since I'm sure he's going to read this, here is a message for him:
Robney. I. Don't. Want. A. Refund.
I. Never. Asked. For. One.
Also, offering a refund every time you screw over a customer doesn't magically wipe away garbage service. Especially if you harass and guilt trip the customer about screwing over people trying to feed their families. What about my family, Robney?
Leave me alone. Blocking you on Yelp as well.
For the love of god, please don't find yet another way to contact me to scream at me.
Am tired of being misgendered over and over and being called a garbage human being. read more
