Ive stepped outside the box, im down in VA eating korean food, haha. I have to say that its nice to see a good 30% drop from NYC prices. Since Im a soondae junkie I had to get soondae guk to at least try it. Overall? Eh. Different soup base than what I am used to and the soondae was so dense compared to the less blood more noodle ones I have had in flushing/NYC. I'm not korean BUT I know delicious soup when I taste it and the Galbi Tang (short rib soup with a few noodles) is DE-licious! Another awesome dish is free: their radish kimchi. I ate 2 servings.. by myself (no sharing.. I don't do that silliness). The only bad thing is that it's cold and the service is a little wacky. They need more workers. The food was good and while I would have given this maybe three stars at most BECAUSE of the food, I don't think they deserve it. While the food was good, the service was not. We came in and sat ourselves down and the lady (I wish I'd gotten her name) handed us our menus. Not even less than a minute, she's asking us if we're ready to order (This is when the group all arrived. There was 7 of us). We had to tell her two times that we were not ready. When she asked that second time if we were ready, my roommate said 'no, we're not. I'm sorry." In which the woman replied "Sorry?" But not in a tone where 'oh i wonder why they're apologizing' but more of a "OH YOU'RE SORRY?" She was loud. Finally we order our food and two of us got hot tea while the others got cold. She leaves a pitcher of cold water at our table and tells us to refill, which is fine...I guess? But what about those who got the hot water? She handed us our kimchi and radish kimchi. While their kimchi is the BOMB, we had to cut it up ourselves. The woman proceeded to ask my roommate a question about their attire and asked why they wore that and how they'd eat. We kindly explained to her that they could eat no problem and that they wore what they wore for privacy. Her reply was "This is America. It looks uncomfortable" or something along those lines. she only came by once to check on us to see if we needed more kimchi. that's it. Didn't ask if the two people needed refills on their hot water. When it came time to pay...apparently we couldn't all pay for our own meals. I gladly paid for four of the people, one paid for themselves, and the others paid together...and she still made it complicated, saying that it was impossible to do or whatever. Anyway, we got it to work out and that's fine. One of my friend who paid for themselves only had the two dollars on them and decided to tip with that, she put it in the tip jarm but the woman was not pleased and tossed the tip back at my friend and said something along the lines of it 'not being fair." that my friend couldn't tip 2 dollars. When it came to my turn to tip, I tipped 4, because I didn't think the service for one was that good and that was all I could really tip. When everyone finished paying, she comes up to me and says the same thing that it isn't fair that I tip her 4 for the amount I paid and that I needed to give her more. She demanded more tip. I didn't end up tipping her more and we stood outside to figure out what just happened. She proceeded to follow us outside and repeated that I shouldn't leave just 4 dollar tip. Another friend mentioned they placed a 20 in the tip jar....and when I told the woman this she says "Oh, why didn't you tell me earlier?" Maybe......maybe if you looked into the tip jar like you did the first time, you'd see it? This was actually the first time I've had a bad experience here. Food is okay. Price is okay. Service is not okay. The ladies were better, but not so much because they just want to get things done quick. Not so much sincerity in their time and attitude. The taller waiter guy was a night shifter, and took over for the lady serving us group of 7. 24 hour restaurant at night around 10pm was not busy. He did not ask us if we needed anything else, and when we asked for more water he doesn't respond and takes a long time to come back to us. Not busy at all during our time there. We initially asked for separate checks, but with miscommunication between the two shifts the taller guy gave us one while check. We kindly asked for separate checks, but he seemed negligent to comply. Finally when we paid by card, he purposely stood next to us keeping an eye on us to see what we write down for tips. Seeing me write down a tip amount, he immediately tell us straight up with a strong tone that we need to put down at least 20% tip. Me being a nice guy did put 20% down, but my other friends didn't since none of us felt their service was worth that much. In the end we would not come back again to do business for them. It's not our first time here, and we really liked their soup and have been there a few times. It's not very polite to request on how much tip is required, and if there is a minimum tip amount they should have added it on automatically. We also asked for carry out boxes to not waste food, and the guy forgot about it. Again, it was not busy. We had to remind him before he finally gave us boxes. I would not recommend coming to this Korean restaurant to others due to their lack of hospitality and services. I am really disappointed in this place, and I hope the owner fires that waiter. He probably pissed off many customers, and not just us. Please put on a smile and at least pretend that you care if you work at a restaurant. Open 24 hours. Specialty? Good, korean-style soups. Really chill, tasty, and pretty filling. I've always came with Koreans, and I might suggest the same given language barriers of the servers. Features interesting meat, e.g. goat and ox. I ordered a beef veg soup which had julienned-sliced meat and vegetables in a thin, red broth. I've also had their signature sul leong tang (the name, I gathered from a fellow yelper below me, Mary K). You can see the huge vat of it when you walk up to the register. It's basically a plain, white broth that comes with rice and seasoning that you can add to your liking. Delicious and reminiscent of my mother's chao (vietnamese rice soup), I'd definitely come back just for that. Bathrooms are one person, single stalled. Well kept, and clean. Their signature dish is thoroughly average ... I've eaten here on several occasions and their signature sul lung tang soup is OK at best. It is not thick and rich as it should be. If this was served at a general Korean restaurant, I would be more lenient but if you claim this soup to be your signature dish, you got to do better. their ramen casserole was also so-so. Been here twice. The place is mainly filled with local centreville Koreans. Place was completely full on a tuesday for lunch (usually a good sign), and about half full on a Friday at around 4. When it comes to seolleongtang, I'm a sucker for good kkaktugi ( - cubed radish kimchi). Here they serve the whole slices and then cut the kkaktugi into cubes at the table with scissors -- a nice touch, let's you know its fresh. Both the soup and kimchi were very tasty. I ate here last night with the girlfriend. The food was very authentic and good however it didn't seem like the service would be very hospitable to people that don't speak Korean. Luckily the girlfriend is Korean so I was taken care of. The menu has a few pictures and the dishes are written in both Korean and English. I got the spicy pig neck soup or something of that type. It was fairly spicy and the flavors were great. The meat fell right off the bone. The girlfriend got the Gom Tang (Ox Tail Soup). It wasn't as flavorful as mine but nonetheless good in its own way. With the Gom Tang don't expect it to have rich powerful flavors like a bowl of Pho or anything. It's more subtle. The kimchi they brought out was very good however the radish one we had seemed a little too fermented for my taste. I also found it weird that they serve you hot tea and you actually had to ask to get some water. Our waiter never once refilled my water after it had been empty for over 15 minutes. I ended up taking the girlfriends water to quench my thirst after eating the soup. It seemed like our waiter was more interested in sitting and talking to his friends that were sitting down at one of the tables. Aside from the service I would have to say the food is fairly decent. The food tastes great but I already know for a fact that the pot where they boil the stew is super unsanitary. Since food tastes great, I go here after midnight if there are no other restaurants open nearby. There's a guy who usually works at night shift. The service here sucks; all the guy does is take order, carry out food, and at that point he thinks his job is complete as a waiter. Not even a water refill, no side dish refills, nothing. When I went up to the counter, I paid 15% tip although I really didn't want to give him much but he managed to be brave and point at the receipt where it said "suggested gratituity 18% = $*.**" and told me that I need to pay that much. Maybe because I was starving at 1 am I found this place pretty satisfactory. I thought the only place I could get decent Korean food past midnight was in Annandale but this place in Centreville is pretty good for those drunk late-night cravings. Their pajeon (fried seafood pancakes) was fluffy and packed with seafood. There may be a bit too much batter but it was crispy and filling. The kimchi side dishes are fresh and unlimited as per usual for any Korean restaurant. The dumpling rice cake was great according to my boyfriend and my soybean noodles was plentiful but a bit too thick. I am used to a more soupy consistency. read more

This place is delicious and very different than other Korean restaurants that I have tried. They sell BBQ but the focus is the soup. Very yummy. I like spicy so I recommend the #4 "Sup Bo gia cay cay" It reminds me of Vietnamese Bun Bo Hue soup...but it comes with rice which I like to add directly to the soup... it has many unique but awesome flavors that I have never tasted before. I will definitely be back here whenever I am in Centreville. I hear that they also have a new restaurant at Eden Center in Falls Church! This is very close to my house so if it is true I will get to eat the delicious soup even more! I've been coming here with friends and family for years and unfortunately will not be going back. Not only is the food not the same anymore, but service - the waiter was instructing me on how much I should leave for tip!? I tipped $3 but he mistakenly thought I only left a $1 and proceeded to show me the "suggested" tip amount for my tab. REGARDLESS, if I wanted to leave a $1 vs $3 that's MY CHOICE. I'm Korean and it's embarrassing these places are demanding add'l tip from their customers. Decided to drop by Gom Tang E to cure our late night drunk hunger. It was quite busy but we were able to get a seat immediately. Our server was quick to collect our Oder and serve us our waters and teas. We ordered the budae jungol and bulgogi dish. It was my first time trying budae jungol, it's basically a spicy soup with onions, pork, hotdogs, and ramen. I personally was not a fan of the soup so I wouldn't get it again. It was too spicy and lacked flavor of anything else. Bulgogi was nothing out of the ordinary. The also served us kimchi and kkakdugi (spicy cubed radishes) they both lacked flavor as well. The rice bowls they gave us was too dry. At the end of our meal, I noticed that someone lost their furry little friend. A small field mice ran across the restaurant. Who knew how long it's been lost for.... also if you've been in Gom Tang E, you would notice that they have a giant pot of uncovered boiling broth that's behind the counter. The food was good but servers are so rude here. When we asked about certain dish combos that were available in the menu, one server blatantly told us the food we were interested in smelled and most people do not enjoy it. She kept pushing for budaejjigae jeongol, even though we wanted REAL meat. And every time we asked something, they were very rude. We asked for soy sauce for the seafood pancake, and she pointed and flicked the side dish with pickled radish and peppers in it. She said "this is it." I know how to eat seafood pancake and THAT is a side dish not the soy sauce for the pancake!! Also, when we asked for refills on one of the side dish, they said "hold on" with a lot of attitude. I specifically asked them when they were serving us food, so they didn't have to come over again for our order. However, instead of just acknowledging my request, she gave me an attitude. I never asked her to "quickly" give me side dish OR did I ask her multiple times. Other people who were with me also felt the rudeness and was very taken aback. I didn't specify that I was vegetarian because the meal was marked with a V and didn't say served with beef. Then they got mad that I didn't know it would have beef when I asked them to remake it. This is a pretty good restaurant to try. I came here with a friend late nights sometimes since it's nearby home. It's very convenient how this place is not far from home. The food is pretty good. I had some kind of soup there, I forgot the name but it's similar to kimchi ramen except you just add more stuff into it than a regular ramen you do at home. It's a big portion for three people. As a Korean, I can tell you that this restaurant serves the worst food. Their side dishes which were mainly kimchi had unpleasant tangy scent. It literally smelled like as if they have been sitting outside for at least couple of days. That was just a huge turn-off for me since I know what fresh or at least decent kimchi should be like. For the main dish, I ordered an ox bone soup and the meat in there was almost gagging me. Okay, so my wife and I are not Korean, but we've been eating Korean food 2 or 3 times a month for years and we like to try the new Korean places that pop up every month or two in Centreville. Finally tried this place and, very happily, I can say that I've finally found an excellent replacement for our beloved Spicy Beef Soup with Vegetables that we used to get at Grand Mart's Cafe before it closed. Also, the Beef Rib Soup was EXCELLENT! Haven't tried anything else but the people next to us had the Loach Soup (what is Loach anyway?), and it looked and smelled wonderful. We WILL be returning! We were there for an hour and were the only non-Koreans there the entire time, which, take it as you will, is usually a good sign to us (oh yeah, and the place was really busy). read more

This food is just with siracha and meat nothing else. Food taste is worse, and the service is terrible. i never come back this restaurant.
